Christianity Etc › Re: Should A Spirit Filled Believer Succumb To Depression And Suicide? by budaatum: 1:53pm On Jun 14, 2021
FOLYKAZE:
Why haven't you commit suicide and have yourself ported to heaven? Could your insistence on staying on earth with struggles and pains mean heaven isn't real?
So you intend to abandon your mission and purpose on earth to go and enjoy bliss in heaven?

It is to disabuse you of this silly thinking that we wrote the children's story of The Goose & the Golden Egg and taught you how to read. The intention is that on reading you would reflect and learn and understand and acquire wise doings (wisdom), instead of expecting to be spoonfed.

The Goose & the Golden Egg

There was once a Countryman who possessed the most wonderful Goose you can imagine, for every day when he visited the nest, the Goose had laid a beautiful, glittering, golden egg.

The Countryman took the eggs to market and soon began to get rich. But it was not long before he grew impatient with the Goose because she gave him only a single golden egg a day. He was not getting rich fast enough.

Then one day, after he had finished counting his money, the idea came to him that he could get all the golden eggs at once by killing the Goose and cutting it open. But when the deed was done, not a single golden egg did he find, and his precious Goose was dead.

Those who have plenty want more and so lose all they have.

OkCornel, this is the beginning of the Pentecost Day thread, in case you are interested in the process.
Christianity Etc › Re: Today, The High Holy Day Of Pentecost by budaatum(op): 1:29pm On Jun 14, 2021
OkCornel:
My point is, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus has nothing to do with the word “Easter” or “Eggs and Rabbits”. That wasn’t how the early church honoured the Lord’s day of the Scriptures and historical records of the early church Fathers is anything to go by.

Pagan customs were syncretised with the faith by you know who…and boom! Here we are.
I showed you first how what might be called 'pagan' Quetzalcoatl and Huītzilōpōchtli were syncretised into the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Assumption of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven. One of the links shows how Jesus is syncretised into 'pagan' Egypt. So why do you seem to have the impression that syncretism is a negative thing?

The word "celebrating" is being narrowly defined by you. The process starts with 40 days of fasting, prayer and penance before Easter and is the culmination of the Passion of Jesus. Easter Day itself is simply a commemoration, like an annual reminder to go through the process.

But I guess you will need to get your head from out of God's ass in order to understand. Go on, try it. Go atheist on me instead of believing crap and then tell me what you understand.

Hi Buda, no insults intended. Not even sure where I misstepped with the egg and rabbit stuff to be honest.

Was only stating my understanding of the holidays with nobody in mind.
Well, you might understand that your own understanding might not be everyone else's understanding, and claiming Easter is about rabbits and eggs or even resurrection is like screaming ignorance since most Christians don't do Easter for any of those reasons.

Before Easter, see, Christians are meant to observe Lent and fast for 40 days during which they are meant to reflect and assess themselves to see things they may decide to improve.

Surely even you can see the immense benefit in an annual SWOT Analysis. No?

NYSC › Re: What Will Happen If NYSC Is Scrapped – Akwa Ibom Coordinator Reveals by budaatum: 12:26pm On Jun 14, 2021
But, reacting to the bill, Mrs Ekwe said, ” NYSC is a strong pillar that unites the entire nation. You can see so many corps members here, they come from diverse culture and ethnic groups, but, once they come for service they do not care about where anybody comes from, they are always united in everything they do.

“They do not care about the ethnicity, religion and culture, they are all one. So, the unity of Nigeria must continue, in NYSC we promote unity and say no to division. It is a rally point of young people in Nigeria.”
First, NYSC does nothing for unity once you leave camp! Many commenting anti-unity here on Nairaland are graduates and ex-NYSC so you can see for yourself it unites you not!

If NYSC is scrapped, employers would lose the cheap labour that they just role over every year instead of retaining and training the staff they already got. Employers would be forced to pay a higher wage too instead of the cheap allowee they currently pay! The benefit however would be that as their staff grow through training and the motivational effect of a higher wage, their companies too will grow as well and they'd likely make more profit and create even more jobs and pay even higher wages.

NYSC is modern slavery and must be scrapped!

Christmas and Easter? They’re not even scriptural stuff to celebrate.

December 25th ain’t Jesus’ birthday. Shepherds can’t watch over their flock out in the cold unmerciful wintery night. That’s one big rat for anyone smell.

As for Easter or better still Ishtar, celebrating the fertility goddess with eggs and rabbits have nothing to do with the resurrection.

Apologies for derailing. In summary, you can’t find a celebration or date for the last two in the scriptures.
You are not derailing. Though you really do not need to insult me with eggs and rabbits and resurrection to get my attention.

I was in Mexico once and visited the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Assumption of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven. Its foundation is on top of a great major temple dedicated to the god Quetzalcoatl and a temple dedicated to the god Huītzilōpōchtli. When some visit the Cathedral today they worship those Gods instead of the Virgin Mary. The Cathedral ensures Quetzalcoatl and Huītzilōpōchtli are forever remembered.

Ishtar was a most famous Mesopotamian goddess and a very important one at that. So important that she is commemorated in the choice of her celebrated day for Christmas, kind of like so she too is never forgotten, though many don't know about her. Its the same way Jesus is not just Jesus to those who ask and knock and seek with all their hearts and souls and minds and beings.

The Bible is like a finger that points to the moon, so when some read "so it can be said that out of Egypt I called my Son", some go searching in Egypt, while some don't bother at all. For it is as Christ is written to have said, The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them", the point being, everyone receives [understanding] according to their capacity and need. It would be rather odd for the lame to receive sight, or for the lepers to hear, or the deaf be made to see, or the gospel to be preached to those who are incapable of understanding, would you not think?

You just consider if you'd have heard of Ishtar if not for the Bible and you might just get the point.

This is a wonderful explanation bro. I like the fact that you could tabulate the "doing good" process and the struggles you surmount in doing them. Interesting, what led to this assertion? I’ll like to learn that.
Stop bearing false witness! You "believe you have come to the full understanding of your messages" so you don't want to learn, you want to teach what you believe to be the truth! But If you truly want to learn, go back and read what you wrote as if you did not write it, because it is very obvious that you have a lot to learn from yourself.

By the way, why have you not created a thread instead of derailing this thread? Have you not yet learnt to obey simple rules and need to be taught?

The US mission in Nigeria said it has increased student visa appointments to accommodate more Nigerians who choose to study in the United States.
COVID-19 has caused a decline in the issuance of student visas by the embassy in almost two years.
The US ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Leonard, who stated this during a Visa Day Celebration for Nigerian students studying in the United States, said processing the student visas remains a high priority for the US mission in Nigeria.
She said, "With over 13,700 students fulfilling their American education dreams, the United States welcomes more Nigerian students enrolled than ever before.
"Education USA team has helped Nigerian students apply for and receive more than $28 million dollars in scholarships and other educational funding to pursue their future.
"We know from our over 8,000 education and exchange program alumni in Nigeria, the tremendous community impact that results when these ambitious students return to apply their knowledge and skills.
"Here at the U.S. Embassy, we are proud of the diversity in American educational institutions.
"There are more than 8,000 Student and Exchange Visitor Program-certified educational institutions in the United States. Students can choose from virtually any subject matter, ranging from the humanities and liberal arts to the most advanced science, technology and engineering fields, or STEM.
"The students celebrating with us here today reflect this diversity; they are studying international health, law, mining, fine arts, and engineering".
The embassy also warned the prospective applicants to avoid using third party services to book visa appointments because they may provide inaccurate information.
Five students representing a variety of degree programs were honoured at the event.

If I or my opnion are not important to u, then u wouldn't be trying to convince me that u aren't crying at every opportunity u have.

Like I said earlier, u are d one who brought your crying into d discussion, not me. Which means u had some emotional issues with Netanyahu before now. If u say u are rejoicing because he is no longer PM, then what were u doing when he was PM? Probably crying. So if ur reason for "rejoicing" is anything to go by, my info on how d parliamentary system of govt& Israeli politics works, might cut short your "rejoicing" and prolong ur crying.

Yet again, it's not a question of what I want to see or not see. What am seeing is Israeli politics & d parliamentary system of govt they operate. What u see is how all of these affects ur emotions. So if ur emotions is controlled by what happens in Israel, then my seeing u or not seeing u cry doesn't matter because there's a reality which I have laid out for u which might just end up hurting u again except if u can change that reality. It's that simple

You are putting it wrongly.

The local government is useless not because the locals ignored it but because the federal hijacked all its powers over security of lives and property. What is the use of trusting an unworkable system?
The Federal Goverment that can not hijack a state government is hijacking a local government that is beneath the state government?

Please where is your state? I ask because I have to admit that perhaps things are very different in your own state so much that Federal Government has hijacked your local government!

As for your question, "What is the use of trusting an unworkable system", I would ask if you know you are talking about a system that is very local to you, as in, the one you are personally and directly and locally responsible for, but which you are claiming is "useless not because the locals ignored it but because the federal hijacked all its powers".

Do let me know if the state in this thread is your own state and I might understand.

My question there is rhetorical, and is meant to show you how useless the local government is in Nigeria own federalism where the power of security control lies in the FG while the states and LG bear the brunt.
So what exactly is your "rhetorical question"?

Is my point not that the local goverment is useless because local people ignore it? Or do you expect local government to function without your local input?

Based on what I have told u so far about how d parliamentary system of govt and Israeli politics works, ur rejoicing or crying is insignificant. So far, u haven't been able to negate d information I shared with u regarding d subject matter. So if u are "rejoicing" that Netanyahu is no longer PM& yet u can't negate what I have said about how d parliamentary system of govt and Israeli politics works, then ur rejoicing is of no basis. It simply means that ur crying continues. It's just simple logic.

It isn't about my delight or otherwise. It's just d reality on ground. If u can change that reality as far as d parliamentary system of govt and Israeli politics is conce6, then of course u can "rejoice". But as long as u can't, u still in ur crying mood as before Netanyahu was removed as PM
lexy2014, explain to me why I should be negating what you told me or what you think when I am here rejoicing while you are insisting I am crying. Did somebody inform you that you are important to buda maybe so you think your opinion matters and can affect buda's rejoicing? Or is it that you see buda and the food on your table disappears into buda's mouth or something.

I do not mind exchanging opinions and ideas, but I really draw the line at those who insist I must by force accept their opinion as if I have not been endowed with a brain and a mind I have learnt how to use.

Nethayahu lost, and I buda has opened a chilled bottle of Gulder to celebrate, so stop obsessing over my rejoicing, or my crying if that is what you will insist on seeing, for your own health, I very strongly advise.
