weyab:No. You didn't just try to throw a shade my way. I mean dude, your mum lost MTN airtime worth NGN200 (Two Hundred Nigerian Naira) and you opened a thread on nairaland over the non issue. You opened yet another thread to encourage your co-ponzi-schemester lowlifes on nairaland. You then have the impetus and effrontery to quote me on anything, let alone purchasing power. Anyways, FYI, I was only going to explain that besides uber expensive breathtaking designs, those hostels offer so much more services and as such cost soo much more. And the regular student probably won't stay there since there are much cheaper not-so-ritzy alternatives. Some of them are in the host towns proper and aren't exclusively for students. And these are ALL private developments and, as such, it'd be unfair if they're compared to Nigerian administration-provided hostels. |
I think if, in the last 40years, we'd spent a quarter of the time we spend on sex and matters sexual in nature on solving our simple but pressing issues, we'd be competing with SA on the number of non-blacks and other foreigners resident in the country |
You won't see Nigeria or Nigerians aiming for such record breaking developments. Unless on longest dance session, longest DJ playtime, largest gathering of board game players and other mumu-mumu attempts. |

Stephen King though. He's unarguably the number 1 when it comes to horror tales. Let's have a top 20 of sorts on nairaland stories, shall we? Naughtydiana, I see you ![]() |

BetaThings:There is a problem. A viable solution is required. Ultimately, tax boycott is not feasible. When you say the youths should confront politicians, what medium/mode of confrontation do you suggest? I don't see youths supporting the said movement. Do you think its possible that this is so because the movement doesn't exist or it's largely unknown? Personally, I don't know of this movement myself. My point is this: instead of elaborating on the problems, we should generate more solutions whether feasible or not. We'll vet them till we develop and execute the best solutions. |
I wish there was a forum of taxpayers anywhere in this country where the total amount of tax paid to the government is being determined accurately? In the event that there isn't as I suspect, at such a forum, all taxpayers could make specific realistic and beneficial demands to the government. These demands however, would have to be aligned to the tenets of the law guiding the use of tax by government. A general partial or total boycott of payment of tax could be agreed on by all involved in the event that the government refuses to use tax for the benefit of the generality of people. |
Teepsee no vex o but, in my opinion, Explorers no dey "feel like boss" because, on NL, him na boss in his own right. And I refuse to believe that I'm alone in this assertion. Onto the topic, the cost difference will probably relegate this mammoth of a flat screen TV to the private lounges of those billionaires who feel having a cinema at home is no biggie. |
moscobabs:In practice, if he paid on the 30th of January, the earliest possible date that the rent should begin to count is February 1. In some cases, grace is granted to the tenant (especially where there's some renovation to be done) to have his rent commence by Mar 1 |
mapist:Not the day he moved in but the day that the rent begins to count/run. A lot of folks move in much later than the date of commencement. |
NLProblemChild:Oct 1 '15 to Sept 30 '17 is two yrs. If Oct 1 '17 to Oct 31 '17 is one month, Oct 1 '17 to Dec 31 '17 will be a three-month period. In the same vein, Jan 1 '18 to March 31 '18 is three months. So Oct 1 '17 to Mar 31 '18 is six months |
NLProblemChild:March 31, 2018 |
If the government attached this level of importance to the provision of food, shelter and other basic amenities to the poor in Nigeria, especially in the north, we'd have allocated the resources involved in this on yet more productive matters. We always prefer to invest so much on the ringworm but turn a blind eye to the leprosy. I read somewhere on nl about boycotting old politicians at the next elections. I think it's a solid idea. |
