Its better to have a goal at least and then face challenges than grope in the dark |
Unless Sanusi has a different explanation to make, the total overhead budgeted in 2010 appropriation is N2.1 trillion and the total budget of the National Assembly (both capital and overhead) in 2010 is N158 billion. N158 billion(though both capital and recurrent of NASS) is still 7.4% of the the total FG overhead. I do not support the NASS one bit but I think someone needs either provide a plausible explanation of the 25% or enroll for an administrative management for mouth diarrhea |
The Senate on Monday described the allegations by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, that the National Assembly consumes 25 per cent of the national budget, as baseless and unfounded. Sanusi had alleged that 25 per cent of the recurrent overhead of the budget of the Federal Government was used to fund the National Assembly. Spokesman for the Senate, Senator Ayogu Eze, said that the 25 per cent figure as supposed by Sanusi was misleading, as the National Assembly only got 3.5 per cent of the 2010 budget. He said, “I want to state categorically that that is not true. The total budget figure for the year 2010 as amended is N4,427,184, 596,534. That is the entire budget of the federation. And the entire budget of the National Assembly, including the Senate, the House of Reps, the National Assembly Service Commission, our legislative aides and all the entire current and capital expenditure for the year 2010 is N158,916,167,627. “If you reduce this to mathematics, what we have is N4.427tn for the entire federation and what the National Assembly get is N0.158tn which is 3.5 per cent of the entire budget of the federation. So where did the mathematics of the 25 per cent come from? “I think that this is not only mischievous, it is calculated to tarnish the image and reputation of the National Assembly, and it is part of the orchestrated assault, verbal and sometime physical, against the National Assembly by some misinformed and some people who do not wish the National Assembly well, otherwise I do not see how that kind of figure can be bandied about by the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, if it is true that he said so.” Eze noted that the reports credited to Sanusi portrayed the legislature as having crippled the economy, adding that the statement was embarrassing and directed towards dragging down the institution of the legislature. He said, “This is pure fallacy. I do not know where this fabrication is coming from and he did say that the National Assembly has taken 25 per cent of all the overhead cost. And I want to state that the total overhead cost of the federation is N2,137,574,700,030. “So even if you look at the whole budget of the National Assembly as a percentage of the entire recurrent of the federation, you cannot get 25 per cent no matter how you push this figure. “My instinct is to believe that the governor of the Central Bank was misquoted and if he is not misquoted, we expect that he should retract this very fallacious and very damaging report with an apology because he does not have a foundation in facts.” N158 billion is still 7.4% of the N2.1 trillion overhead, a far cry from 25% if you ask me. So who is unintelligent here ![]() |
are you serious? So the guy has kids? But what manner of loyalty to his oga is that? Like agreeing that the Man called him even when the Man was already dead ![]() |
Hrm, Soludo actually has a track record of success and understands economics. A lot of these other guys do not, they think borrowing money to build white elephant projects is the way to run a gov't. I'd trust someone like Soludo to get the most out of the economy possible. oyb:Of course |
ActiveMan:Thats where the wahala is na. . .implementation never happens here |
How come I cant find anything unusual about this chick's role in the movie trailer or did I see something different Just a couple of kisses and a make believe b, angingNothing different if you ask me but I think those who are offended by the scenes should simply hang off. . .it wont change anything anyway |
Beaf:This is clearly a battle am sure you cannot win. Goodluck Jonathan is NOT the leader leader Nigeria needs at this time. Nigeria at this point of her transition needs a strong and assertive leader. Decisive, Organised, Proactive, Disciplined, Logical. . .I could go on. Jonathan unfortunately does not have any of the qualities Nigeria needs now and does not appear to have the ability to learn effectively on the Job. Its refreshing to know that more and more Nigerians are beginning to see through the Jonathan-is-God's-anointed gibberish |
All polls in Anambra election in feb predicted Soludo as clear winner. Polls no dey work for Naija!!! Wait until unseen factors begin to play out. . . |
High_Chief:I kindda like the modesty in this response |
chyz1:I disagree with bolded line completely. Regardless of whatever are your propositions, people have rights of choices of who should lead them |
The seizure comes as Nigeria prepares for 2011 elections that are sure to be one of the most controversial and-- analysts say-- potentially most violent elections in the country's history. Incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan has declared his candidacy amid accusations that, as a southerner, he is reneging on an unofficial agreement that Nigeria's presidency will revolve from south to north. And the next four years are the north's turn. Does the US know anything we dont? Just a question. |
Lagos, Nigeria (CNN) -- Using a claw-hammer the port security agent pulled open the wooden crate to reveal a cargo of seemingly harmless floor-tiles. But, clearing away the top layer of tiles, he and his colleagues revealed the crate's hidden cargo -- smuggled weapons. Nigeria's security service says it has seized 13 shipping containers in Lagos port filled with illegal weapons, including rockets, grenades and bullets. And each shipping container carries 20 wooden crates. But on a brief inspection of the seized weapons, Nigeria's National Security Advisor (NSA), Andrew Azazi, refused to speculate on the significance of his discovery. "We don't want to make any conclusions about what threat they offer, where they are going, or where they are coming from. We need a lot of verifications and, at the end of the day, Nigerians will know that this is what it's all about." Illegal weapons are nothing new in Nigeria. Militant groups across the country already have ready access to weapons smuggled through the country's notoriously porous borders. The armed young men, local government and analysts have all told CNN that such weapons are often paid for by politicians to support their own bid for power during elections. Whoever owned the weapons seized this week in Lagos felt it was safe enough to smuggle them through Nigeria's largest port. But the NSA insists this seizure instead highlights the effectiveness of Nigeria's security. "If weapons are getting through unchecked we will probably find out that these ones will also have gone through," Azazi said. "I think they have a very good procedure and that's how we found out that these ones didn't go unchecked." But authorities are taking the discovery of these weapons as a warning -- that some Nigerians are expecting trouble. http://edition.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/africa/10/28/nigeria.smuggled.weapons/index.html?hpt=C1 |
and so whats different between this Okpozo and IBB or is he still thinking this is a military regime? |
. . .plus we got more corrupt in the last one year moving from 130th position last year to 134th position this year. Good luck someone?. . . |
I thought this guy was Governor of that same state just a few years ago. . . |
Even the US acknowledges that Nigeria needs a great president at this point. . .well I cant even use good for Jonathan, so we could as well do without him. . . |
chyz:How old are you ![]() |
@Beaf A house in construction? You can do better than this na |
Ohakim has scored a very bad one here. . . he seems to have forgotten so quickly that this game is not for the seemingly smartest |
I cant seem to believe we have such brazenly brainless people as governors in this country. . .sad |
ilugunboy:Now this is the issue. Why do i still feel that a lot of Nigerians (non-Igbos) are more favorable to calculations that will deny Igbo the presidency in the near future. With statements like this and more that one gets to read here on daily basis, i see we really have a long way to unification in this country. |
mama-gee:. . .yea, well, your opinion kindda sucks. . . |
I can state clearly that the sentiment of majority of Igbos is to vote the North. My problem and I know the pulse of my people too, is that the North has refused to come up with a candidate. As for Jonathan and the south south, we trusted them once and we cant forget so easily. . . |
PapaBrowne:No one? Sorry dude. I do! Improved rails ![]() |
I will not boycot AIT because of IBB and as a matter of fact I will not buy the smoke out Babangida clamour. If he is as bad, are we saying we dont have ppl in authority that will present cases against him that will lead to prosecution? Those are the people I personally have grouse with. And for Dokpesi, please give the guy a break. Unless you want to be Dokpesi, you can never take away his freedom of opinions and association with anyone he choses. This is democracy |

In my area in Lekki, its still the same thing. About 18 hrs/day. Are we not a part of this Nigeria? What of our own improvement ![]() |
I particularly found the claims made by the president on his facebook page laughable. I am so shocked that a president we love so much and we clamour to sweep the polls come january is only able to present to us the appointment of Jega and straight flights to US as enough achievements to get us to vote for him in January. While I do not in anyway expect him to perform miracles considering the short time, these Jega and flight to US claims riles me completely. Please at the last count, how many Nigerians have the capacity to fly to US? Maybe we should start with how many Nigerians carry their own international passports. And please dont give me the Jega thing. Jega is just an individual and not the free and fair elections we seek. How much about Iwu did we think in 2005. I think Jonathan should stop this propaganda and hold onto the goodwill Yar'adua's death has accorded him. |
