eazzzy1:
I think each states set their own laws. In Lagos state it is 18, but a quick search online will show you 11 years is the Nigeria age of consent.

The age of consent is 18 in most western countries because that is the age a child is allowed to move out of her parents house, the age a child is allowed to graduate highschool, get into college, buy a cigarette, alcohol etc.

In Naija we have people going to university at 15 years old, finishing secondary school at 14, getting into the club without ID checks. The question is if I meet a girl in 200level in the uni in quilox, am I supposed to ask for her age before taking her home? If I don’t will that be considered rape?
But the below screenshot is telling u that Google is wrong

Defilement of Under-aged Girls: What is the Verdict of the Supreme Court of Nigeria?

Hon. Justice John Inyang Okoro, JSC
The above notable and profound pronouncement forms part of the ipsissima verba of my lord, the Hon. Justice Okoro, Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria when he delivered the leading Judgment on Friday, 30th January, 2015 in the case of BONIFACE ADONIKE v. THE STATE (2015) 7 N.W.L.R (pt 1458) 237 at 266 paragraphs B-D. The case of Boniface Adonike (Supra) once more brings to the fore the duty on sentencing authorities to show in the application of the law that society abhors cases of defilement of young girls. The law on defilement of under-aged girls in Nigeria is provided in Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 42, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria. The section provides that “any person who has unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of thirteen years is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for life, with or without whipping”. Any person who attempts to have unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of thirteen years is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for fourteen years, with or without whipping. A prosecution for either of the offences defined above in this section must be begun within two months after the offence is committed. A person cannot be convicted of either of the offences defined in this section upon the uncorroborated testimony of one witness.

@baralatie and co
Same as above: where’s the link?
Also it says age of consent is 13 not 11.
Did you read it?

Yinusa Yellow is currently in jail for abduction and rape. Ese Oruru never gave consent. The court determined in count 5 of the charges that she was old enough to give consent.

Now let's examine the charges:

The charges against Yunusa read: “That you, Yunusa Dahiru, a male, resident in Opolo-Eipie area of Yenagoa in Bayelsa State, conspired with the duo of Dankano Mohammed and Mallam Alhassan, between August 2015 and February 2016, to commit an offence of abduction and thereby committed offence punishable under section 27(a) of the Trafficking in Persons (prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.”

Count two: “That you, Yunusa Dahiru, abducted Ese Oruru by means of coercion, transported and harboured her in Kano State and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 13(2)(b) of the Trafficking in Persons (prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.”

Count three: “That you, Yunusa Dahiru induced Ese Oruru by the use of deception and coercion to go [/b]with you from Yenagoa to Kano State with the intent that she be forced or seduced into illicit intercourse and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 15(a) of the Trafficking in Persons (prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.”

Count four:
“That you, Yunusa Dahiru, procured Ese Oruru and subjected her to sexual exploitation in Kano State and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.”

Count five: “That you, Yinusa Dahiru, had unlawful carnal knowledge of Ese Oruru without her consent and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 357 of the criminal code Act and punishable under section 358 of the Criminal code ACT, Cap. C.38 laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”

Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/05/ese-orurus-abductor-sentenced-to-26-years-in-prison/

From the charges above, you can see that Yinusa clearly committed rape as Ese Oruru was abducted, induced, deceived and coerced all the way.

She NEVER gave consent.

Count 5 clearly shows that she is old enough to give consent but never did.
U have been challenged severally to provide the link to these things. Since u can’t we have to assume u r making them up as u go along

What is age of consent in Nigeria? Is it 11 or is it 18??
Below are comments I read on a thread about how one ward chairman raped two girls, 12 and 13.

VirginFinder:
How does a man rape 2 girls at the same timehuh

It is either the girls gave consent to have a three-some or he got an assistant to help in the rape.

Age of consent is 11, by the way.
..
Modified:
Yinusa Yellow abducted and impregnated 14-yr old Ese Oruru.

Is he in jail todayhuh

Modified again: Yinusa Yellow is currently in jail for abduction and rape. Ese Oruru never gave consent. The court determined in count 5 of the charges that she was old enough to give consent.
AthosEsq:
Age of consent is not 11 oga... That's an old and outdated law you are using.
Age of consent now is 18 years.
If you have sex with anyone under the age of 18, even if she was the one that seduced you, and you have it on tape, it doesn't matter... You have raped her. It's called statutory rape.
PoliteActivist:
Stop Spreading falsehood. This is old info. It is 18 not 13 and attracts life imprisonment
shaggy007:
No man, that was ammended.
It's 18 years now.
Omoslim26:

PoliteActivist:
Oga stop saying what you don't know. Marriage is an exception for Muslims.
In 9ja sex with anyone under 18 outside marriage is RAPE!
Now u know. Meninmen, Fearlez, Mike008
VirginFinder:
You are the ignorant one here. The latest law in rape is the sexual offences bill of 2015 similar to one which formed the basis for the Supreme Court judgment I quoted. And it stylishly stipulated 11.
Laws are not amended on blogs or articles stating somebody's personal opinion.

Tbf I still don't get the logic behind allowing civilians to legally carry guns, especially in a country with one of the highest cases of gun violence? Some say it's for self protection, but think about it, you need a gun to protect yourself because EVERYONE else is carrying a gun. Take away the guns then and let people live.

Are you planning an upcoming building project and don't have a decent plan yet? Contact me to design the complete building drawings (architectural, as well as securing structural, mechanical, electrical and Bill of Quantities) all at VERY decent costs. See correspondence in my signature below or simply chat/call 0816 124 7898 to get started or see samples. Thank you
If u abolish guns, among civilians ONLY criminals will have guns - they will then operate with impunity!

You mean.. US and Europe and China and Russia and Japan and Korea and Australia and Canada, and Ghana and SA etc. All are into lock down. Why must Nigeria be different
Because Nigeria’s death and hospitalization rates from COVID19 are EXTREMELY LOW! It is practically zero for people under 40. Also Nigeria is overpopulated with very high birth rate. Even if we totally ignore COVID (which I am not advocating) we’d emerge a younger and healthier country with a more vibrant economy.
HealthRe: COVID-19 Lockdown: Right Or Wrong? by CanadaOrBust(op): 11:05am On Jul 09, 2020
SirWarlock:
80% of the world practically went on lockdown. It might not be the reigning thing again but it did its job for some countries.
The way I see the covid data reporting is partly 'we can tell the world whatever we want' but that's another thing entirely. Countries that hardly have it now have clearly worked to break local transmission and luck may or may not have played a part.
Yes, lockdown did it’s job for some countries but not Nigeria. It is like shutting down the country because of malaria. In Nigeria death rate of people 40 and under is practically zero
HealthRe: COVID-19 Lockdown: Right Or Wrong? by CanadaOrBust(op): 11:00am On Jul 09, 2020
SirWarlock:
It's right for countries that know what they're doing. Nigeria isn't one of them. I read somewhere that an effective 2months+ lockdown will go a very long way of curbing the spread but from what we've seen globally I don't think it's sustainable anymore, socially, economically and politically as we've seen in some countries. So yes I believe in lockdown to some extent but whatever grin
If u r being sincere and honest you’d admit I was right: 1) For whatever reason CVOVID-19 has very low death rate in Nigeria 2) The death and hospitalization rates are not high enough to warrant a lockdown of any kind.
3) Even if we totally ignore COVID (which I am not advocating) we’d emerge a younger and healthier country with a more vibrant economy.

With all these, I think PROFESSOR MAURICE IWU is correct , when he said people abroad are mostly hit by covid 19, because they do take FLU VACCINE,

Let me quote him directly "
The Professor said that the flu shots taken in most European and American countries might have made them more vulnerable to COVID-19.

“Most of these countries use flu vaccine. Once you take the flu vaccine and a new strain comes in, it will cause all the defence mechanisms to relax. This scenario makes most countries that use the flu vaccine more vulnerable to COVID-19,” Prof Iwu said.

IF ANYONE SCHOOLED ABROAD OR BASED ABROAD BEFORE AND HAS TAKEN FLU VACCINES, IT SEEMS THIS CORONAVIRUS IS MORE DANGEROUS FOR THEM.

We are far behind them but our pace isn't slowing down.

Nigerians do blind copy copy. Same way they blindly copied American presidential system without copying all the little checks and balances, resulting in an all too powerful presidency. It is not that clear cut as some of those with both parents will end up at the top or the bottom too.
I suspect we will have more of them at the top than the other cohort.

In reality, parental wealth and education is more predictive of
children's future success than the absence of a father.

It turns out that a two-parent household is richer on average than the single-parent one.
This somehow doesn’t apply in 9ja . How many children of richest and most successful Nigerians of yesteryears are among the famous movers and shakers of today? Who replaced Zik, Awo, Gowon, Ojukwu, OBJ, etc. Definitely not their children. Check well and you’ll find they are replaced by people from originally poor or moderate families
