The irony is none of these names are Hausa names. They are Islamic names just like James or john are Christian names. I was reading an article sometime ago where it was said that indigenous Hausa names have almost disappeared.

Figure out the tribe.
“Kunle” on its own has nothing to do with wealth. It’s only when it is prefixed with “Ola” that you could possibly say wealth and even then technically you are wrong. Ola means blessing or honor. Wealth is often a consequence of blessing or honor but wealth is not the strict meaning of Ola.

Ade Kunle means the crown or royalty is plenty at home
Ayo Kunle means joy is plenty at home
Ola Kunle means blessing or honor is plenty at home

A lawyer cannot be sentimental, once you are driven by sentiment you lose the ability to think right.

Those with common sense know all three petitions by APM, LP and PDP will be dismissed. The most ridiculous of them was the petition by LP. You made no effort to prove you actually won the election, you came third and did not join the person who came second in your suit, your entire petition is based on matters that are statute barred (e.g things that happened 10 yrs ago) or in which you have no locus standi ( what is your business in who another party nominates to stand in an election, irrelevancies that have already been determined (irev has no basis in determining the result of an election..only EC8 and so on. 25% of FCT when the law states no one can have a vote that is more important than another simply because of where you reside.

This petition especially by LP was just an attempt to remain in the headlines and t9mexcite the base. Legally it was always going to be shut down!!

Show how you won the election and were rigged….you didn’t even make any attempt…..and you are shouting stolen mandate up and down!!!

There are different types of MCBs, and they each have a specific Trip Curve.
Type B and C, the ones we typically use at home takes about 5 seconds to trip when 5 times it's rated current passes thru it.

Fuses on the other hand will break at it's rated current.
Fuses are fast acting, while MCBs will be giving you final warning for several days before grudginly taking action. grin grin
That’s kinda worrisome
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by casualobserver:
Israelicc:
Breakers usually respond to two types of faults
1. Overload current
2. Fault current from short circuit.
In the case of fault current from short circuiting, the response time is usually faster as the short circuit current is high enough to disrupt the flow of current and this happens in millisecs.

If it is overload current, the breaker also responds but is usually slower. If the right torque of the breaker isn't applied to tighten the screws, arcing occurs as current flows through that terminal and this can lead to overheating of the terminals and the insulation material of the conductors connected to the breakers. This overheating occurs gradually and with time the strength of the materials used to make the breakers gets weaker and weaker until it breaks down finally causing a fire.

That's why it's necessary to size your breakers appropriately. Always multiply your maximum load current by 1.25 to cater for such overload cases.

If you installed a 63A breaker, and your current draw is more than the installed breaker capacity, say 80A all the time, it's only a matter of time before that breaker collapses.

This doesn't change the fact that we also have substandard products in the market but I'm sure we all get quality breakers from the market.
Thanks for that. It makes sense that if current passes through a device that is not designed for that level of current bad things will happen but isn’t the purpose of a breaker not to allow current above its rating to pass through even once talk less “all the time”? That’s where I am struggling.

That said jonescosmos did say he eventually diagnosed the problem as the switch. Since 75A went through for 5 minutes I assume that’s how long it took for the breaker to trip. I am also assuming (since he didn’t say otherwise) that the switch wasn’t rated for the high current passing through it , which destroyed it causing the fire before the breaker eventually tripped.

Current passing through a switch above its rating and causing damage makes sense to me.
Why a breaker allowed current above its rating for 5 minutes still doesn’t.

That said I can understand a hypothetical scenario where a switch is rated for say 30A, a breaker for 50A and current of 45A flows and causes a fire at the switch and the breaker doesn’t trip because it is within the limit of the current passing through, allowing the current to continue to do damage. I can’t wrap my head around a current of 60A flowing in this hypothetical scenario and the breaker 50A remaining live long enough for damage to be done at the 30A switch.

Nice for you to call my attention to this incident. This issue happened when I had a single Unit 16KW Deye Inverter. I would itemize my responses.

1. Those HIMEL breakers came with the Inverter, and they worked perfectly well. I made a comparison with the ones I later bought by myself and noticed that in fact these 2 that shipped with the inverter are original.

2. The AC-In breaker did not cause the fire. As a matter of fact, it did its job perfectly, if you look at the picture again, you will notice that it tripped, preventing further damage.

3. The issue was caused by the HAGER changeover between the AC-IN Breaker and the AC-IN Current Limiter. The Hager switch I suspect must have overheated and caught fire eventually.

4. THE MAIN CAUSE AS I INVESTIGATED: This 16KW DEYE Inverter had 290A Charging power. The night before I ramped up the charging rate from 120A to 240A because I added another battery (15KW Felicity) and the Datasheet shows that battery needs 120A charging rate and if you have X number of the batteries you should use X*120A setting on your inverter.

5. There was no grid at the time when I did this change. So early in the morning when the grid came and battery started charging, kids’ school preparing also started, Kitchen Cooker unit and Water Heater kicked on, Two Children's Water Heaters Kicked on, and the Overall Amperage on the AC-IN circuit ramped Up to around 72A which sat there for about five minutes or so, The HAGER Switch had gathered heat I guess and started melting. The HIMEL Breaker shut down, but the switch continued to melt internally and eventually inflamed.

6. Results from N0.5 above was gotten from my Smart Energy Meter I has Installed after NEPA Meter. So, I replaced the AC-IN Breaker because I saw that my AC-IN Current ramped above 63A just before the issue. My choice of 125A was that DEYE in the Inverter User manual recommended a 200A Grid Breaker. The reason why the Inverter was shipped with a 63A breaker remained a mystery to me.

7. The exposed wires from the ferrules were due to the heat that resulted from the fire.

8. I can beat my chest about my Screw contact torque and tell you It wasn't the case at all. People find it difficult to loosen bolts, nuts, screws, etc., that I tighten because I torque to specification and most people lac appropriate torque tools.

I hope I have been able to clear the doubts here.
Thank you for your detailed response. I really do appreciate it and I have been reading you and some other posters and watching YouTube videos (Dave Poz, Off grid garage etc) to gain some understanding about solar in general, what works and what doesn’t, safety risks etc etc before I take the plunge.

I think I now have a clearer picture, the burnt device in the picture is the switch not the breaker? I had assumed that was the breaker. I know there are different types of fuses/ breakers, some that trip immediately they go above a certain level and some that will allow current for a brief period. Why would 73A of current flow through a 63A breaker for 5 minutes, is that normal? If it had tripped as it should, how was current was still flowing through the switch? Or is it that switches are also rated for current and the switch did not have the rating to handle the current and by the time the breaker tripped damage had already been done to the switch?

Also if you don’t mind how are you finding the capacity of the Felicity 15kw and out of curiosity I know you replaced your 16kw with 2 8kw, are they also 3 phase or did you revert to 2 single phase inverters?

Thanks

PS: my takeaway from this is that every component must be stress tested at point of installation. Fuses , breakers, inverter, etc

Yea you are right. Fault could have been from arcing from wires not properly torqued. Change of breaker is not the fix
I can wrap my head around that. Arcing makes sense, I can see some exposed wires in his installation despite the use of ferrules. Nonetheless It would be interesting to know if the fuse actually tripped though or if indeed in the scenario you described the breaker should trip. It seems looking at his pic, both his fire and that in the video he responded to, were from the AC side......at least on first view. If the Breaker was supposed to trip and it didnt, then it is worrying that there are breakers in the market that arent doing their job. That is really what prompted me to responding...do we have a problem with the breakers in the Nigerian market? No point in installing breakers that won't do what they are supposed to.

EDIT: I was looking at the breakers in the pic and had a look on Jumia. Surely there has to be a reason why "himel" breakers/fuses are on average 1/5 or 1/4 the price of the equivalent Schneider beyond just brand name.

I experienced the very same scenario in my house recently.
Gos was kind that it happened when we were at home.

The AC in breaker melted and caused fire outbreak., my wife was preparing the kids for school and went to the laundry room to fetch school uniforms only to find smoke coming from the inverter room which is next to the laundry room.
She quickly grabbed the extinguisher and put out the fire.
Then came to wake me up to break the news to me.

From the attached pictures you can see the AC-IN breaker completely melted.
The Amperage was 63A so I replaced it with 125A and till now, everything is going well.
Sorry to take you back to this post but I have to ask because the NEPA guys did the same thing with our street box (can’t remember what it is called) that kept blowing a fuse.

I don’t understand why you would replace the AC breaker (particularly AC-in) with one with a higher capacity in this situation. Isn’t the job of the 63a breaker to trip if the current goes above 63A? Isn’t the real question why didn’t the 63A breaker trip? Isn’t putting in a breaker of a higher capacity going to allow more current to flow potentially causing more damage in the event of a fault? If a 63A breaker could not prevent a fire, how is a higher capacity breaker supposed to?

Going back to the issue we used to have with the NEPA panel on my street, here was a time we had a problem of over voltage/overcurrent or whatever they call it and whenever the NEPA fuse blew, they kept using copper wire of a thicker gauge to bridge the failed fuse than the rated capacity, the result was that it would also blow fuses in the houses of residents of the street, they would then do the same thing (adding thicker copper bridge) to the fuses that blew in residents homes. The explanation I was given at the time was that putting a fuse higher than the rating (which is effectively what NEPA boys do by increasing the thickness of the copper wire) allowed current that was supposed to be halted at the NEPA panel to feed through to residents houses and in turn blow our fuses and for some of us who had in turn had their fuse capacity increased with the adding thicker copper wire method, blow equipment in the house. Since the actual proper fuse for the street NEPA box was installed and the fuses in our homes derated to the proper rating, we’ve not had the problem of excess current feeding into residents houses or fuses blowing.

Please correct me if I am wrong but something tells me the problem is not the rating of 63 A fuse or maybe the fuse was defective or poor quality. The idea of a breaker is to stop current above its rating going through. Sounds to me the 63A fuse was defective because it is not supposed to allow any current above 63 to pass through. I am not saying it is wrong, I am not an electrician and by knowledge does not go beyond the basics I learnt in school, I am trying to understand the science behind putting in a higher rating fuse.

From my layman’s understanding even if the breaker was not the right capacity for your system , it should still have just done it’s job and tripped not cause a fire. Looks to me like on the day, you had a NEPA surge and the breaker failed to do its job whether it was undersized or not. If a surge has not happened since, then putting in a higher rate breaker may seem to have cured the problem but that also may be only because you have not had a reoccurrence of what caused the surge. But if my thought process is right, going by the experience on my street, if you have a reoccurrence, your higher capacity breaker is only going to allow more current to pass through. If it was a defective breaker and the new one is of the same manufacturer and quality, what says it will work especially now it will allow even higher current before it’s break point?

This is like a having a small boat with a hole in it that can carry few passengers that sinks and then replacing it with a bigger boat that can carry more passengers but also has a hole in it, they are both going to sink if placed in the right circumstances, the only difference is having a bigger boat allows you to have more passengers on board to drown.

Check it the history of Ibos alliance with the center. Whenever they feel they are not getting their way with the center the Ibos either sustain their protests and make life difficult for the ruling govt throughout its tenure orthey stage a coup. If you truly lived under any military government but still continue with this your assertions, it means you are living in self deceit. And you never answered my question about what the civilians built after I listed you few of many infrastructures built by military juntas. The coups going on in French speaking Africa are a fight for true independence. If you are knowledgeable you will know that French speaking West Africa are independent only on paper. It is not the same as the goings on in NIgeria or Ghana or other Anglophone countries.

Your issue isn’t governance but your ego and penchant to always win and dominate others. It is a trait that makes is difficult for you to accept defeat no matter how fair the contest. It is the trait that makes you successful in business but also the same trait that means you don’t mix well with others and so there is always conflict when enough of you accumulate in an area. Human relations is different from business. In business you can bully your competition and wipe them out. In human relations you can’t always win, human relations is about compromise….a trait severely lacking amongst the majority of your people which is why you never do well in politics outside your region. I am at least glad to see people like Umahi who truly understand politics is about compromise and trust.

Disappearing under the military is different from disappear under a civil government, at least in a civilian govt your people can make noise and raise alarm.

Finally it is not tribal mantra, it is a real thing. Why are you always the ones in conflict with everyone else?

I am very sure you are still a boy in in his 20s.

I lived unde three different military juntas in Nigeria here- Ibb, Abacha, Abdusalami. I even lived under Buhari but I can't relate how his regime was because I was a kid.

Now let me educate you, the kind of human right violations that has happened and still happening under civilian governments are worse than military. The police and Sara brutality is worse and such never happened under military government.

Tell me what changed in since civilians took over? All the standing infrastructures you see today were built by the military juntas- Gowon Estate, Jakande Estate, Festac, abesan estate etc, refinery, third mainland bridge etc , were built by the military government. I no many roads in Lagos that are still standing today that the elders told us were built by Yakubu Gowon. Please , tell us what the civilian governments built-nothing.

I witnessed ibb must go protest that forced ibb out of power, he stepped down , yet no one person was shot or brutalized. Ordinary endears, the death toll is still counting.

Civilian governments are worse
My friend I was around during Gowon era when we sang “to keep Nigeria one” in school so I have witnessed every military govt in Nigeria.

You are clearly unintelligent enough to understand the difference between military and development and the military and civil liberties.

My post (if you have any intelligence) was about civil liberties in a military era.

Military govts may have certain advantages for economic development in a multiethnic diverse environment because precisely because they rule by decree and can violate your rights and civil liberties and do what is needed to get the job done. The problem is eventually the nature of the African beast always come up and they become intoxicated with power. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. In the end they become as corrupt as the civilians without any checks and balances except another coup and the citizens have few in any civil liberties.

I have a friend who was picked up under Abacha for about 5 months, till today no one really knows what happened. I guess he was so scared to relate his experience. I also remember my father having to respray his cherished green Mercedes because the military decreed civilians can’t drive green cars. WTF?

So feel free to go on with your nonsense glorifying the military. We know at heart you Ibos are not democrats. Others know every democratic cicvilian government no matter how bad has a fixed term. No one who has experienced military govts in Nigeria wants a return to that era no matter the deficiencies of civilian administrations. Except they are promoting a selfish agenda.

Gone are the days when boys were real boys as I look back in nostalgia.

Below were rules of football when we were kids, damn it was fun

1. The fat kid was always the goalkeeper.

2.The owner of the ball decides who plays .

3. If you didn't participate in repairing the ball you were given a match ban.

4. The guy who's never picked was to fetch the ball from the trees or bush when it got stuck, under the car or tunnel to play in the next game.

5. When the owner of the ball got annoyed, game over.

6. When you hit your toes against a stone and you notice blood, you quickly cover the area of injury with sand as a form of first aid and play continues.

7. You can't dribble the owner too much, this may lead him to stop the game by taking away his ball.

8. No matter how many goals you scored, the winner would be determined by the last team to score.

9.No offsides.

10.There is no referee.

11.There is fault only if the fault is serious .

12.The 2 best players can not play in the same team so everyone chooses their players.

13.If you are chosen last it is a humiliation and you will remain in defense.

14.If there is a penalty the goalkeeper is replaced by the best player of the team.

15.The best player on the field is always in the same team as the owner of the ball.

16.There is always a house where if the ball fell there, we knew that the game was over. so be careful !! cheesy grin

17. To distinguish the teams, one of the teams take off their shirts .

18.Game over when its dark and we can barley see the ball, we all disperse in groups teasing one another until we get home to face another punishment from our parents. grin

Africa is our home. Childhood was fun.
So on point!!! Particularly 2,5, 12-15, 16 & 18! So so true!!!

By the way I was always goal keeper, I was crap and I knew it. Every game started with a call for “2 keepers” it was the only way I played 😂. I was equally a crap keeper!!!!
