Ubameyang: Human vulnerrability or susceptibity to viral attack is due to our corrupted nature(by ourselves) we have fallen from a great height dat is y d bible i rom.8:19 talks abt d creature earnestly waitin 4 d manifestation of d sons of God(humans) our spirits lies lethargic in its robe(physical body) without d supply of spiritual radiation to d body man becomes a weakling. So animals and plants and bacteria that are susceptible to microorganisms also sinned against your God too abi? |
Christianity Etc › Re: Who Created Other Planets? by CatfishBilly: 10:51am On May 06, 2017 |
KingEbukasBlog: Is this even an argument ? You have a way more complex brain that has helped you develop the resistance against or cure for these disease. Even the study of pathogens has given us a much better understanding of microorganisms Animals also have brains to understand diseases and how to fight them. Elephants have been shown to eat leaves containing oxytocics to aid in labour process. Apes have been shown to eat leaves containing some natural ingredients to help one ailment or the other, it is not peculiar to humans. They have the in-built immunity/mechanisms to fight against diseases while we have to develop new medications every few years to fight against the Infections cos he surprisingly gave them immunity against our works Sickle cell disease was developed to fight against malaria . Sickle cell disease was developed by who? (This is so gonna be interesting) Most of these diseases are just spin offs of the evolutionary processes . Who knows ? As humans evolve we can be naturally resistant too against these diseases . There is a perspective of creationism called special creationism whereby God created primordial ancestors and orchestrated diversity through evolution . And these design flaws can be corrected through natural selection . Again , some of the flaws which were once seen as flaws have turned out not to be flaws . We have now discovered their uses . As knowledge grows , the perception changes . Because we don't know yet why something seems off at the moment does not mean God did not do it - that's the Not-God argument [https://www.nairaland.com/3767066/criticism-atheist-arguments-introducing-not] Humans are evolving to be immune to these diseases at the detriment of their health. i.e sickle cell disease. But humans are not evolving to be immune to most bacterial/viral infection. Things as common as common cold and influenza still kill a lot of people yearly. Please, which former design flaws has been demonstrated to be beneficial now? |

SmartMugu: I still don't think the creator needs to be blamed for the points you mentioned. I still agree with folks that believe life is about survival of the fittest. That's why you and me can slaughter a chicken for lunch and a lion can devour both us for dinner. Same applies to micro-organisms like the bacteria you mentioned. They obviously derived something from making people sick, but our creator has nothing to do with what they're doing to other animals like us, like he has nothing to do with a chicken devouring a young and innocent earthworm, and same chicken ends up being cooked or fried by me and you.
In my opinion, It will be unfair to assume our creator made certain living things more perfect than us humans, and some of them can hurt us more than we can hurt them. We need to think about how many other species we hurt on a daily basis too. Since we are discussing bacteria, how many plants, mushrooms, animals do we humans kill everyday? Last I checked, humans consume more than other animals. Please correct me if I'm wrong. You are still not getting it. The creator put in place so much mechanisms for these organisms to thrive but refused to give same to us. His "chosen" ones I'll go out on a limb and say that 95% of our antibiotics is gotten from bacteria. That is how defenseless we are. |

KingEbukasBlog: Design flaws ? Oya go and create your own universe from absolute nothingness let's compare it to God's
According to Christian theism , God did not create an impeccable universe . The so-called design flaws are even beneficial . Like I told you the other day : when you lose , others gain - that's the cycle of life . SmartMugu: Oh wow. Don't you think the problems were created by humans themselves and not the creator? Okay, I'll talk about humans. Sure, beneficial design flaws, bla bla bla. Let's look at Plasmodium, the causative agent of malaria. It doesn't have any proven benefit except making humans sick and killing us. Plasmodium Falciparum, the deadliest specie for humans, our close evolutionary cousins are surprisingly immune to it. He gave the immunity to apes and forgot to give it to us? That's okay though, he "gave" us evolution. Now, humans evolved the S in the hemoglobin gene. But guess what? The S is a death sentence. To inherit 2 of them causes sickle cell disease (SS), we all know how that one turns out, to inherit one (AS) has been linked to chronic kidney diseases and splenic infarctions. But that's okay though, he is a great designer. He created bacteria and gave them the ability to withstand anything thrown at it, but what did he give us? Nothing. Okay, we developed antibiotics to fight the bacteria, what did he do? He have them genes to be able to become resistant to our antibiotics. You don't want to know how many people have died due to antibiotics resistance. And we are supposed to be the apple of his eyes and whatnot. What a great designer he is. |

Well if you have any other questions just ask
Don't forget , not everyone subscribes to the idea of creation stories in religious books but they still acknowledge the existence of the creator . Creator? With all the plenty design flaws? The creator surely doesn't want us to live on earth if there is one. |

davtosh: It baffles me when ppl base aguements on the discorveries by Scientists. As if Scientists are faultless. There are many theories that were later found out to be faulty by Scientists themselves and many more will still be discovered to be faulty in later years. So all these beliefs that earth came into existence 4.5billion years ago are total nonsense. where were the ppl making those pronouncements then. Where were their great grand parents. Was there any writen information by an eye witness?
Down below are very few of Scientic findings and beliefs that were later found to be untrue. So I stick to the Bible account.
1- Fleischmann–Pons’s Nuclear Fusion Cold fusion is a supposed kind of nuclear reaction that would occur at relatively low temperatures compared with hot fusion. As a new type of nuclear reaction, it gained much popularity after reports in 1989 by famous electrochemists Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischmann. The craze about cold fusion became weaker as other scientists, after trying to repeat the experiment, failed to get similar results.
2- Phrenology Now widely considered as a pseudoscience, phrenology was the study of the shape of skull as indicative of the strengths of different faculties. Modern scientific research wiped it out by proving that personality traits could not be traced to specific portions of the brain.
3- The Blank Slate The Blank Slate theory (or Tabula rasa), widely popularized by John Locke in 1689, proposed that individuals are born without built-in mental content and that their knowledge comes from experience and perception. Modern research suggests that genes and other family traits inherited from birth, along with innate instincts of course, also play a very important role. 4- Luminiferous Aether
The aether (or ether) was a mysterious substance that was thought to transmit light through the universe. The idea of a luminiferous aether was debunked as experiments in the diffraction and refraction of light, and later Einstein’s special theory of relativity, came along and entirely revolutionized physics.
5- Einstein’s Static (or Stationary) Universe A static universe, also called a “stationary” or “Einstein” universe, was a model proposed by Albert Einstein in 1917. It was problematic from the beginning. Edwin Hubble’s discovery of the relationship between red shift obliterated it by completely demonstrating that the universe is constantly expanding.
6- Martian Canals The Martian canals were a network of gullies and ravines that some 19th century scientists erroneously thought to exist on Mars. First detected in 1877 by Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli, modern telescopes and imaging technology completely debunked the myth. The “canals” were actually found to be a mere optical illusion.
7- Phlogiston Theory First postulated in 1667 by German physician Johann Joachim Becher, Phlogiston Theory is an obsolete scientific theory regarding the existence of “phlogiston”, a fire-like element, which was contained within combustible bodies and released during combustion. The theory tried to explain burning processes such as combustion and the rusting of metals, which are now jointly termed as “oxidation”.
8- The Expanding or Growing Earth The Expanding Earth or Growing Earth is a hypothesis suggesting that the position and relative movement of continents is dependent on the volume of the Earth increasing. Modern science has turned down any expansion or contraction of the Earth.
9- Discovery of the Planet Vulcan A small planet that was supposed to exist in an orbit between Mercury and the Sun, French mathematician Urbain Jean Joseph Le Verrier coined the name “Vulcan” while trying to explain the nature of Mercury’s orbit. No such planet was ever discovered, while the orbit of Mercury was explained in detail by Albert Einstein’s theory of general relativity.
10- Spontaneous (or Equivocal) Generation Spontaneous generation or equivocal generation is an obsolete principle concerning the origin of life from inanimate matter. The hypothesis was brought out by Aristotle who advocated the work of earlier natural philosophers. It was proven wrong in the 19th century by the experiments of Louis Pasteur , drawing influence from Francesco Redi who was an early proponent of germ theory and cell theory. The good thing about science is that it has to be reproducible by your rivals/peers (the famous phrase "peer review" ) before it is generally accepted. If it is not reproducible, it is discarded faster than you can say Jack Robinson and every example you listed up there wasn't reproducible. In science no one is against proposing hypothesis, the issue now is, can it stand the scrutiny of your rivals? |

Richirich713: There's no reason why church fathers should have mention the passage, especially if we consider the pared-down version of the Testimonium scholars generally consider to be the original(or very close to the original). I also don't consider it to be a problem if Eusebius did edit the passage, since I subscribe to view that the passage was altered by a Christian (probably scribe), but the core message still comes from Josephus. Lying for Jesus you mean? |

2. Secondly, Please state it categorically, If I bring it out, will you admit your Ignorance?
yes or No Oga, I have given you the Oxford dictionary definition of contemporary, I even added a screenshot. If that one is not good enough for you, then I can't help more than that. Yes Felix, I will admit my Ignorance. E don tey we you want hear am. |

felixomor: Wow for real? Sorry ignorant one, u didnt list all. Just use your google and get contemporary historians who lived in Jesus era.
Besides, i thought your dictionary definition of "contemporary" had multiple meanings?? Anyway, its you so I am not surprised.
Get educated. Sure, there were historians that were alive during the supposed life of Jesus, those were his contemporaries, but guess what? None wrote about him, zero, zilch, nada. Not even one. The ones who wrote about him were not his contemporaries. If you have a name drop it. It's not a matter of noise or argument. Put me to shame. |
Christianity Etc › Re: What Is The Value Of Josephus' Writings? by CatfishBilly: 12:53pm On May 04, 2017 |
felixomor: So after the definition what changed? There are contemporary historians who wrote about Jesus.. Educate yourself with google. I doubt if u ever knew such. Before coming tp Nairaland to take up the job of anti - religious rants.
If you like lie down on gutters. Your definition doesn't change the claim. Besides u seem to have forgotten your claim of "MUSLIM ATHEISTS" so soon. I have listed all the reputable historians that wrote about Jesus, none were his contemporaries. If you have any name, provide it. Some Bible historians even go as far as discarding Josephus' account. Of course I know you won't drop any names, you don't have any. |

felixomor: The guy doesnt even know that there are other contemporary historians who wtote about Christ. Contemporary? Every Historian that wrote about Jesus from Josephus to Tacitus to Pliny the young to the Talmunds all wrote about him at least 50 years after he was supposed to have died. If you don't know the meaning of contemporary, here it is.

The healthcare services that Nigerians seek abroad can be imported here so that the young doctor can be groomed, and considering the amount of money spent on treatment abroad, it is alarming........they still die anyway
If they give you the budget and expenditures of the last treatment of President Buhari......you will curse this system. You still dont get it. These doctors instead of admitting the shortcomings if our system or referring them to better hospitals start peddling miraculous cures. That is wrong. |
