Christianity EtcRe: Atheists, Is The Act Of Committing Murder Wrong? by CatfishBilly:
Stewie101:
So do psychopaths have the moral responsibility to not kill since they don't express empathy? If the moral proscription of murder is anchored delicately to atheism, then shouldn't psychopaths be free to kill?
Morality is subjective to an atheist. Atheists choose/make their morality and this morality is driven by empathy.
So, an entity that lacks empathy can't be moral in the atheistic sense, so morality is no inhibiting factor in the murderous drive of a psychopath.
If morality trumps empathy, we won't be having Christian serial killers, since theists like arguing that morality is woven with the word of God and their religion.
Christianity EtcRe: Atheists, Is The Act Of Committing Murder Wrong? by CatfishBilly: 9:07am On Apr 25, 2017
Stewie101:
Lol. Where did I state that I was Christian?

So let's talk about empathy which seems to be the core of your main argument. Although empathy is a predominant trait among humans, it's also a trait that is expressed by humans in varying degrees. So there are people that express higher degrees of empathy than others. And there are also people who don't express any empathy at all, by dint of the wiring of their brains. Now, how then can you classify an action as wrong based on a trait that is expressed in varying degrees by some and not expressed in any degree by others? Is the moral obligation to not kill a responsibility of only those who express empathy? Do people who possess greater levels of empathy have a greater responsibility to not kill? Should people who don't express the trait of empathy have no moral obligation to not kill?
People who lack empathy have a diagnosis. They're psychopaths. It's a personality disorder. A huge number of serial killers have been shown over time to exhibit psychopathic behavior.
So, murder has so much to do with empathy, not morals.

If the Quran and the Bible were questioned the way you all are questioning DOCTUFOS back then, the world would have been a much better place.

He's not 'someone' he is pope.

Just as if Darwin should declare that God created the world.

Evolution may not be a myth to you but it is not an 'act of creation' to me.

It is the figment of someone's imagination about the cosmos and the biosphere.

Because you call it scientific never transform it to an irrefutable fact.
Baba, deny it all you want, it doesn't change the fact that it's true.
If you like repeat it to yourself in the morning when you wake up and at night before you sleep, it still won't make it true.
You can keep burying your head in the sand, the world will move on without you, inugo?

Facebook and WhatsApp groups where the same Nairaland atheists are in ?

As an internet user I can be in the same number of Facebook and WhatsApp groups as anyone else 1.e If there are 10 Facebook and WhatApp groups about people who support a particular cause or have the same shared interest , I can be in all of them . Its not that each individual group consists of totally different users . Considering that atheists are an insignificant minority in Nigeria , its very possible that its the same atheists who are in those Facebook or WhatApp groups . grin I can also join a Facebook group out of curiosity not that I share whatever common interest the group has . Keep this in mind . wink
And you've derailed the thread.
You must feel very proud of yourself.

I've been using the internet for 14 years now . Im on myriads of social media platforms . I tell you , there is no rise of atheism in Nigeria . I've got friends from different tribes in this country and even the word "atheist" sounds strange to them when we discuss stuff about God and religion. Its all false hope , I'm sorry you have to face the truth .

I think you believe that anyone who criticizes religion is an atheist , I once thought that too but now I know better - even Christians criticize the ills of religion , the deists do so too , and atheists can be involved in religion (Buddhism , Confucianism , and even Wicca since there are atheist witches) , there is Satanism too . Satanists always berate anyone who believes in God .

I think you should do your homework bro . Even the topic of your shows that you didn't .

My thread where the homework was properly done can help you : https://www.nairaland.com/3500235/must-read-god-without-religion
Okay then. The eye sees what it wants to see.
I know the definition of atheism, thank you very much.
Would have shared numerous Facebook groups and WhatsApp groups with you, but I've learnt a lesson in privacy protection, so believe what you believe.

There is no rise of atheism in Nigeria. If atheists on this forum operating with different accounts to give a semblance of growth is what you mean then that's the delusion sir . Instead Nigerians are becoming staunchly religious . I've experienced it and sometimes I'm appalled by it. Even the bible said we should do things in moderation .
Did I mention Nairaland in the OP?
If Nairaland is what you base your atheist population on, then you're wrong.
There are so many online platforms you can check.
Go do your homework, bro.
Now, is rising atheism in Nigeria a result of the flaws of Pentecostalism?

The evil co-tenants I have in my compound here are into evil practices, they are fond of sprinkling some diabolic powder on the floor with the belief of using the glory of whosoever that step on it for money magic. Of a truth, sometimes in the dream, I would see a spirit (in form of dark shadows) coming to collect something so daring from me and this is always accompanied with heavy nightmares.

I rarely have a straight sleep. My sleep is always intermittent (i.e. Waking up every 5mins). The worst experience ever was that most times i'd see a part of my body (leg, arm etc) moving involuntarily while I would be held in a subconscious sleeping mode.

Most times I pray fervently to cancel out these evil practices
All I see here is night terrors/sleep paralysis/ sleep disorders.
You should be evaluated by a doctor.

I do agree that all the above contribute to the rise but even the internet is also responsible too

for instance, Thief B Joshua would've gotten away with his false prophesy about USA elections if we didn't have internet!, he wouldn't need to make excuses of plane flying over or Boko Haram being responsible for his church collapse if it had happened 20 years ago

the Ore to Lagos on empty tank story wouldn't have been known by many non-Redeemers if it were told 30 years ago and those redeemers would be too caught up in groupthink to realise the obvious lies in that story

the flamboyant lifestyles of pastors wouldn't have been known has there not been paparazzis posting pics of their lifestyles online (although many pastors these days do the posting themselves)

the adverts of miracles are being scrutinized because there's internet where you won't be afraid of criticising God of men

I watched "Your View" on TVC weeks ago for the first time and the topic of the day was on Adeboye's statement about meeting wife on Facebook and losing them on YouTube; the women on the show started defending Adeboye and twisting and bending his words to make them jive, it was painful to watch BUT come to Nairaland and see how Adeboye is being criticised for such poorly thought words and it won't surprise me if some of the women on that show has monickers on Nairaland which they used to criticise Adeboye too but maintain political correctness when on TV

so I still strongly feel these things have been happening, internet just reports them more and internet users are able to hear opposing opinions about their pastors, church, church members, church doctrines, religion and god
Internet and Pentecostalism's excesses, that looks like a marriage made in heaven grin

I think the excesses of the modern age churches has hugely contributed to the rising shift from theism to atheism. The mounting corruption in the corridors of religion has frustrated and disenfranchised people so much that they have lost respect for the religious leadership, and by extension, religion itself.
I think many are becoming unreligious not because they do not believe in God per se(many dont even know what to believe anymore,as logic wars with doctrine),but because they detest the corruption and dishonesty in the religious circle of society.
I agree with this submission.
Agreed, there was always atheism, but the recent happenings in churches contributed greatly to this shift.
Christianity EtcRe: Is The Rise Of Atheism In Nigeria A Direct Reaction To Flaws Of Pentecostalism? by CatfishBilly(op): 11:25pm On Apr 22, 2017
I understand your point @hopeful.Landlord
My friend was of the opinion though, that the sudden rise is a reaction to Pentecostal leaders who are surprisingly fixated on money, living lavish lifestyles, driving exotic cars while milking their followers dry.
Their unending advert of miracles which are performed few and far in-between and their comments/views which laugh in the face of common sense and science like driving over 200km on an empty tank, mental illness or any ailment for that matter being a result of sin.
Their "touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm" mantra when they are in a scandal or legal trouble.
This was why the people revolted and embraced atheism.
That was his submission anyways.

I was discussing with a friend recently and the topic unfortunately moved to the rising atheistic population of Nigeria (Nigeria has a shitload of atheists, no joke. You just need to know where to look).
He was of the opinion that the rise of atheism in Nigeria is a reaction.
A reaction to the flaws and excesses of especially Pentecostalism.
How true is this?
Let's have a civil discussion please.

Christianity EtcRe: Homosexuality In Nigeria by CatfishBilly:
By the time Nigerians start to realize that being homosexual is natural and not a choice, that'll do the trick.
Forget about what your pastors told you and your personal opinion, being gay is natural.
Sexologists, Psychologists and Psychiatrists have long settled it. Y'all should read more, not just your holy books.
