It's easy to observe that Camry 07-10 is the most advertised car for sale on NL Autos.

Please why do you think it's so?

What are the cons with that vehicle?

Maintenance affordable? Or which specific issue with the car often comes up?

Please I need help and advice here. Here is my situation. I am in diaspora building a block of 2 bedroom flats, 2 down and 2 up
So am currently on the beam and first floor slab of my 4 units of 2 bedroom flats in port Harcourt. At this point the engineer has used 226 bags of cement to do the staircase, beams and one of the two flats on the ground floor, the other flat will be done today which I think may take another 90 bags of cement, so in total I am looking at around 312 bags of cement. My worry is that is that I think so much bags of cement has gone into the slab and beam. The mix ratio he is using is 1:2:3 according to him. I bag of cement, 2 wheelbarrow of sand and 3 wheelbarrow of granite. Is this acceptable, what your advice. The area of slab is 288m2 and I have currently spent up to 3.6 million naira.

I decked my slab of approx 130sqm and cast the stairs with about 140 bags of cement.

Your Carpenter is lying to you. It may only get worse. It may be sign of the onset of termite infestation. Investigate properly and if it is termite infestation, you MUST change the affected wood. You might be lied to again saying you can apply treatment over the affected wood. Na lie. Change affected wood and apply treatment is best practice.

This termite invasion of the treated nogging wood around my place is too much here in the East and that's why I have asked several questions on use of Melaina as nogging wood.

I have seen Skimanski and I think Spyder008 adopt a false nogging method using mostly hardwood tie beams and they said such is mainly for POP ceiling.

Can't that method be recommended for all roofing and nogging if POP ceiling will be eventually done and soft-hard wood like Melaina be reduced or eliminated?

Engineers, Builders, Tile marketers and construction Enthusiasts could we discuss this issue of "To Tile versus "To Paint" external walls of a house from a cost perspective.

I know some will say external wall tiling is old school. Though I see some very good looking houses carrying very well arranges wall tiles design.

So my question is this;

Is it cheaper (maybe by sqm pricing) to tile external walls than either plaster-painting or plaster-screed-paint?

You could use various brands of tiles and paints to make your analysis but preferably affordable mid priced materials will better so that everyone can be carried along.

Looks much smaller than that to me. Especially at the width looks like btw 11 to 12m and the length btw 13 to 15m.

But maybe pics don't tell it all.

This is the third time I am hearing an installer mention Bozac aluminium.

No fade, no color change? For an imported roof coil. Sounds to good to be true compared to what the "big boys" are recommending.

So what guarantee or warranty do you or the company give?

I always associated plinth beams as those tied to individual footings and cast on natural ground. The foundation na no shaking even with earth settlement.

I didn't know reinforced concrete at dpc ws also called plinth.

I checked the plinth beam online now and that's a great idea. It's very close to what I'm actually asking aside the iron rod part...

So that's the best to do(Using iron rod) instead of using DPM Nylon?

From my tiny understanding of plinth beam, it's actually for foundation footings all round. But the question you are asking had once been tackled by diodarves (or so). He had said then (in this same thread) that you could [sub][/sub]cast above all the raised foundation blocks (like a mini German floor) covered with dpm. Then when funds are available later, you can cast all the inner rooms, even when walls have been made.
I don't know if it's standard but he recommended that approach and it makes some sense to me.

But then, the factory you buy from is also a factor.
0.45mm from Tower or First Aluminium is thicker than 0.45mm imported.

With this roof I am seeing...is there any nogging here?
I know you are going to do pop ceiling...does that mean you will not do any ceiling noggings?

maybe I forgot Sir, that will not be a problem, you are referring to Oja agba, 3 Dozens will be ok, but if you have a parapet there won't be need for the usage because cutter rod is already inside the parapet.

The Chinese nails are good for roofing just like uk nails too, better than traditional nails

1. I noticed in your quote you didn't add that thick wire used to hold the wall plate and passed through the blocks. Or is that an old school method?
2. If it's not the proper way, how then are wall plates fastened in the internal walls?
3. Have you used or heard of Chinese nails for roofing? Please educate us on the nails used for roofing.

With that amount (11m) simply mean the materials used can't be as quality as the one I used, from the picture the roof is Gerald roof, the plumbing pipes are highly quality (some are almost quarter inch thick pressure pipes), the electrical wires are high standard for cctv, general wiring, solar and generator and high standard aluminium casement windows and those external security doors are from Swiss trade there office is around chevron company lekki.

My statement implied that the house was just roofed (First Alum), plastered and preliminary electrical and mechanical pippings (wires not included) has been done and e never reach the 11m self.

With the other items you have now mentioned maybe the 17m might just find a way to be reached.

But mind you the house I am referring to has so far being built to standard by a CoREN Engineer.

Finishing (completion from carcass to turnkey) and quality of finishing is to owners taste.

The answer to this is simple.

Roofing wood like Manania are soft wood (easily penetrated by nail without breaking). They are not to be confused with softwood used for temporary structures on site. They are used because 2x2 size hardwoods might break during installation.

But then, there are certain hardwoods that won't break easily.

Thanks for this response. So I now know that the softwood quoted is not "ordinary softwood". I will keep making my finds on the name of the wood used here for noggings but what I observed is that termites easily attack the noggings here in the East.

same to you sir, i really don't think i understand your question but what is actually certain is that softwood are use for temporary work on site, like decking, lintel, pillars or column, they don't last more than a year.

Hardwood remain hardwood, but there are various form of their hardness, itara, ayin, akun wood is harder than ogborugboru, menaina. The harder woods are good for 2x4, 2x6, 3x4, why the less hard wood like menaina, ogborugboru are good for 2x2 and 2x3, the reason is simply that, at that sizes they won't crack, wish can damage the woods.

2x2 woods are mainly use for ceiling noggin, but if you are installing stone coated roofing sheets to cover your roofing wooden carcass, full size 2x2 is suitable too for your purling(note that I said full size 2x2 not solo) because the full sizes 2x2 is what most saw mill now saw or sell for 2x3.

2x3 is mainly use for purling or latt according to how the carpenters call it. (Purling or latt is the vertex level point on the roof where the roofing sheets will be lay)

2x4 is use for the tie beams, joining or bracing, Ridges and finally ridges construction on the roofing carcass

2x6 is for king post

3x4 is use for the wall plate

of course everyone should know facial board is 1x12 but for aesthetic design on the roof it will be reduce to 1x10.

Facial board is mainly use when there is no parapet attach to the block roofing level.

My question... is that standard or acceptable to prevent future termite invasion?
Any reason for not also using 2x2 hardwood as with 2 x 3 and 2 x 4 in the quotation?
