dgr8truth:Why not give the full story... http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/172348-nigeria-worlds-15th-corrupt-nation-transparency-international.html Despite President Goodluck Jonathan’s pledge that his administration would end the scourge of corruption ravaging the country, Nigeria only performed marginally better than its 2013 rating in the latest Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index, CPI, released on Wednesday. Out of 174 countries evaluated for corruption, Nigeria ranked 136th alongside Russia, Cameroon, Iran, Kyrgyzstan and Lebanon, as the least transparent. That means the six countries, Nigeria inclusive, are the 15th most corrupt in the world. The most corrupt country is Afghanistan, which ranked 172nd, while the most transparent nation in the world is Denmark. Nigeria was 14th most corrupt in 2013. On per 100 score, Nigeria totalled 27 aggregate points, better than 2013 when it scored 25. Though still woeful, the country’s scant improvement from last year’s survey may be because fewer countries were surveyed in 2014 than 2013. Last year, a total of 177 countries were surveyed as opposed to the 174 countries surveyed in 2014. Transparency International’s CPI is the leading indicator of public sector corruption, offering a yearly snapshot of the relative degree of the corruption problem by ranking countries from all over the globe. The CPI, which relies on expert opinion worldwide, is a measurement of the perceived levels of public sector corruption worldwide. “Corruption is a problem for all countries. A poor score is likely a sign of widespread bribery, lack of punishment for corruption and public institutions that don’t respond to citizens’ needs,” TI said. This is particularly true of Nigeria where several public institutions are a cesspool of fraudulent activities as proven by multiple investigations and reports. Between 2013 and date, cases of pension scam running to multiple billions of naira at federal and state level were reported. No conviction has been recorded yet. Instead, charges against some of the alleged kingpins were controversially dropped. Anti-corruption campaigners say President Jonathan has failed in the fight against corruption, by refusing to sanction officials proven to have misused public funds. Earlier this year, Mr. Jonathan infamously said that what most Nigerian’s call corruption were cases of stealing and that stealing was not the same as corruption. “Over 70 per cent of what are called corruption (cases), even by EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) and other anti-corruption agencies, is not corruption, but common stealing,” the president said on national television. He said most corruption claims were politically motivated. An allegation by a former Central Bank governor, Sanusi Lamido, that at least $20 billion of oil revenue was missing, has yet to be fully investigated although the government immediately dismissed the claims. Global Menace Transparency International said that corruption was a global problem, adding that “not one single country gets a perfect score and more than two-thirds score below 50, on a scale from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).” “Poorly equipped schools, counterfeit medicine and elections decided by money are just some of the consequences of public sector corruption. Bribes and backroom deals don’t just steal resources from the most vulnerable – they undermine justice and economic development, and destroy public trust in government and leaders,” it added. “Countries at the bottom need to adopt radical anti-corruption measures in favour of their people. Countries at the top of the index should make sure they don’t export corrupt practices to underdeveloped countries,” advised TI Chair, José Ugaz. #change #GMB #APC |
Smartestelvis:Lol, you think there's a cure for that kind of stup1d? #change |
kestolove95:I feel you. #change #GMB #APC |
vandutchboy:Bookmarked. Thanks. Will watch it all when I see electricity! #change #GMB #APC |
vandutchboy:My brother I noticed, but it really gets my goat when people talk about our importation mania like it is a good thing. China is slowly destroying our production capacity, and yet Jonathan is borrowing more and more from them and letting in every damn product. We need jobs here too, in case he hasn't noticed. We can't all be employed in the buying and selling of imported goods. #change #GMB #APC |
agabaI23:Please hold your ignorance. We lack many byproducts for the plastics and fertiliser industry because we do not maintain our refineries. We have the leather and cotton for our clothing etc needs but we are fixated on oil and imports. We have lead, zinc, gold, coal, uranium... A plethora of natural resources, but because we lack focus importation seems easier. China did not develop this way they learnt to manufacture for their needs first, then for the export market. We cannot have leaders with a traders mentality. We even import bottled water, pencils and chalk for goodness sake. The largest number of jobs is produced by a healthy manufacturing sector, but here we are after 16 years of pdp rule and we are still talking about electricity ($16bn plus spent on...?), water, and roads. No country should be proud that it is importation dependent to the degree we are. Buhari demonstrated the better direction, and I vaguely remember the 'made in Nigeria' trade fairs that seemed to travel round the country. #change #GMB #APC |
Masifa1:Surely you have not been missing out on the comedy of the first bumbling couple? The train has reach... A campaign bereft of even small ideas... #change #GMB #APC |
omenka:To tell you what a fraud this report is, they obviously has omitted any mention of the voluminous discussions tying GEJ and his government with corruption and incompetence. Interesting. #change #GMB #APC |
collynzo82:Lol, isn't her neighbour Sambo the glove puppet? #change #GMB #APC |
londoner:You really are a silly thing! When pdp thugs were shooting APC supporters in Rivers State did you speak? When an APC official was murdered in Rivers State and when the Okrika campaign ground was destroyed by pdp thugs did we hear from you? Bloody hypocrites! #change #GMB #APC |
Caseless:I felt a great anger yesterday, but I saw the generals statement yesterday, and then the chairman's own. The pdp is trying to provoke violence for their dark purposes, but we will not be moved. Whatever the date, we are ready to fight and win the election. As for the quisling toads spewing nonsense here, we all know how scared you are to face judgement at the ballot box. Boastful cowards now justifying the postponement, jeez! Irony. #change #GMB #APC |
Lagoseko:Graduate still battling English language issues? #change #GMB #APC |
nickydof:A chicken-hearted commander in chief! The things Nigeria has experienced.... Smdh #change #GMB #APC |
All the service Chiefs were awarded national honours last year (don't ask me why but it obviously wasn't based on merit) and now we can see them blatantly involved in political shenanigans (ekiti rigging tape inclusive). I do not expect them ever to behave honourably. #change #GMB #APC |
anonimi:Your ignorance is startling. You imagine someone will buy a jet for a one or two month campaign when they can rent it or even borrow? Pdp-style stupidity on display! #stupidasmud #change #GMB #APC |
derecho:I'm sure Jonathan is a light unto the world! Leading the nation into crisis and you think he should be applauded? The nation has a constitution and laws that he and his government violate serially and yet do we see justice? #change #GMB #APC |
derecho:At last, the bigotry starts to shine through... #change #GMB #APC |
derecho:The bible says a nation is established by righteousness. Perhaps you don't understand the meaning of Daniel 3 16-18, or what Jesus said on the cross re if this cup could be taken away from me, yet not my will but yours be done. Unlike you I do not need evidence to pray or believe, I choose to. What did Jesus say to those who demanded a sign of him in John. You have been given signs enough through the ages. Jonathan has a space in my prayers but I'm sure he would rather I did not include him. #change #GMB #APC |
ResourceMan:You are a tool. If he is doing well, and obviously he is smart to have won the grant (yes it is still a loan he has to pay back) will he now ignore what he sees in his community, among his peers, in his country? Is the youwin grant meant to buy his conscience? And how many people have access to it so far? Not even 100,000 in a country where half the population are youth. #stupidasmud #change #GMB #APC |
0700Jesse:Don't be stup1d. The BBC is not the British government and why should they help us at all, are we not an independent nation? All the years boko haram has raged freely has it concerned Jonathan? One day after the Nyanya bombing, was he not dancing on stage campaigning for votes? When Bama was destroyed, did he speak, instead he was sending condolences to France? The hypocrisy and kleptocracy of the pdp will come to an end next month. Nothing can save this wretched government from the peoples judgement. #change #GMB #APC #oneNigeria |
gift01:Rest assured that the APC is getting information from the army and all other agencies because most of them are not happy with their politicisation. Look at the Ekiti rigging tape. The APC obtained the information before the Osun election. Many in the security services are not impressed by Jonathan and want change. This postponement was forseen by the party and now the electoral bravado of the pdp has been exposed. I am sure the APC will respond in an appropriately intelligent manner to frustrate every plan of the pdp. But the aftermath of the election will be hard on the pdp. The gloves must come off. To threaten our democracy over the ambitions of a man as useless as Jonathan, is indeed a step too far. All political agents in the army and security services must be purged under Buhari. #change #GMB #APC #oneNigeria |
arinzeuba:Lol. Your weakling of a President is running scared of the election, but it is you that is confident? You obviously have better information than he does abi? #thickasabrick #change #GMB #APC |
nwafuluozoh:The knuckleheads are those afraid of an election because the stare defeat in the face! Just saying #change #GMB #APC |
naijaking1:Provide your evidence or stfu! #change #GMB #APC #oneNigeria |
derecho:God has his day of judgment set for all of us, and he has sent all the messengers of salvation he considers necessary. So what are you doing to uphold the truth (apart from praying he will do it for you)? What actions do you take to ensure a better life for your neighbours, your country and yourself? Has China developed because they were calling on God day and night? Or Brazil, or South Korea, or Japan? I am not one of the deluded christian types that expects God to swoosh down to rescue me from situations I conspire to bring about. Your country is full of corruption, deceit, fornication and fraud which neither church nor mosque has diminished to any noticeable degree. We are now all lovers and worshippers of money however it is obtained, where do you see God in all that? Render unto Caesar what is Caesars ... Building, uniting and developing Nigeria is a task for Nigerians, and we need to get serious and proactive about it because it will not happen by prayer. #change #GMB #APC |
ArchEnemy:The same kind of people that shot APC supporters in Rivers State, that murdered one APC official, blew up offices, and destroyed the Okrika campaign venue? Bigot and hypocrite is a toxic combination in a person. #change #GMB #APC |
uupgrade:You don't make sense. If you are so confident, why celebrate a delayed election? #thickasabrick #change #GMB #APC |
Shameless pdp cowards, your end will come, this month or next! That's a promise. #change #GMB #APC #oneNigeria |
derecho:The will of God is done by godly people, and this postponement is solely about the personal ambition of a wretched president, trying to subvert the will of the people. Why is he so afraid to face judgement? Nigerians call on God as if he is a houseboy. The thing you know is right to do, do it. We pray too much and act too little. Look at non christian/Muslim countries around the world prospering, stable, and here we are, a church and mosque on every street but an honest man you cannot find. We have to labour to achieve our destiny, God will not spoonfeed us. #change #GMB #APC |
Some pathetic responses from people who are already staring defeat in the face. We have been saying since that Jonathan was afraid to face the election and now that fear has gone public. Jonathan is failure incarnate and even if we have to accept an election postponement, his time is up. #change #GMB #APC |
I am angry beyond measure. To imagine that a President so useless in every conceivable way can seek to heat up the polity and threaten the stability of the country because of his personal ambition... Whatever it takes, come may 29th we will have a new president in Buhari and the gloves must come off. The Ekiti plan will not work this time around. I look forward to the official APC response, but nothing on this earth, or in the heavens will save Jonathan from the justice of the people. #change #GMB #APC |
Tranquill:You are the irresponsible person here, not able to discern the concerted moves by a desperate government to avoid answering to the people at the long scheduled general election. Sahara reporters has given a fairly accurate report on the current meetings going on in Abuja this very day. Why is the pdp so desperate to avoid the election? Surely they have boasted enough, and not for one day has Jonathan persuaded the average Nigerian that fighting boko haram was his top priority, but now it is a very convenient excuse. Jonathan will continue to fail because that is all that is within him. A wretched coward trying to subvert the constitution and the will of the people. He will not succeed. Even if it is six weeks, we will be angrier and more people will see through his shameless posturing. I hope all his pastor supporters are watching events with open eyes. Nigeria is being pushed to the brink of conflict by the ambitions of a rather useless man. We will resist. #change #GMB #APC |
