PoliticsRe: If GEJ Is Not Corrupt Why Pardon Alamiesghia Et Al by Change2015(m): 3:02am On Feb 09, 2015
dgr8truth:
Why asking a question that the answer to most of us is obvious.

In 2003 the last year of Obj first tenure according to transparency international we were 2nd (no. 132 of 133 ) most corrupt country in the world. In 2007 the last year of Obj second tenure we were in no. 147 out of 179 and in 2014 we are in no. 136 of 179. So in GEJ tenure so far we have moved 11 points up the ladder of less corrupt countries.

GEJ may not be fighting corruption the way Obj did but he is definitely winning the war against corruption. Beside Obj's anti-corruption crusade never yielded meaningful result other than political bullying and intimidation.

Facts don't lie and though some may live to forget yesterday others don't.

Why not give the full story...

http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/172348-nigeria-worlds-15th-corrupt-nation-transparency-international.html
Despite President Goodluck Jonathan’s pledge that his administration would end the scourge of corruption ravaging the country, Nigeria only performed marginally better than its 2013 rating in the latest Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index, CPI, released on Wednesday.

Out of 174 countries evaluated for corruption, Nigeria ranked 136th alongside Russia, Cameroon, Iran, Kyrgyzstan and Lebanon, as the least transparent.

That means the six countries, Nigeria inclusive, are the 15th most corrupt in the world.
The most corrupt country is Afghanistan, which ranked 172nd, while the most transparent nation in the world is Denmark.
Nigeria was 14th most corrupt in 2013.
On per 100 score, Nigeria totalled 27 aggregate points, better than 2013 when it scored 25.
Though still woeful, the country’s scant improvement from last year’s survey may be because fewer countries were surveyed in 2014 than 2013.
Last year, a total of 177 countries were surveyed as opposed to the 174 countries surveyed in 2014.

Transparency International’s CPI is the leading indicator of public sector corruption, offering a yearly snapshot of the relative degree of the corruption problem by ranking countries from all over the globe.

The CPI, which relies on expert opinion worldwide, is a measurement of the perceived levels of public sector corruption worldwide.

“Corruption is a problem for all countries. A poor score is likely a sign of widespread bribery, lack of punishment for corruption and public institutions that don’t respond to citizens’ needs,” TI said.

This is particularly true of Nigeria where several public institutions are a cesspool of fraudulent activities as proven by multiple investigations and reports.

Between 2013 and date, cases of pension scam running to multiple billions of naira at federal and state level were reported. No conviction has been recorded yet. Instead, charges against some of the alleged kingpins were controversially dropped.

Anti-corruption campaigners say President Jonathan has failed in the fight against corruption, by refusing to sanction officials proven to have misused public funds.

Earlier this year, Mr. Jonathan infamously said that what most Nigerian’s call corruption were cases of stealing and that stealing was not the same as corruption.

“Over 70 per cent of what are called corruption (cases), even by EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) and other anti-corruption agencies, is not corruption, but common stealing,” the president said on national television.

He said most corruption claims were politically motivated.
An allegation by a former Central Bank governor, Sanusi Lamido, that at least $20 billion of oil revenue was missing, has yet to be fully investigated although the government immediately dismissed the claims.

Global Menace

Transparency International said that corruption was a global problem, adding that “not one single country gets a perfect score and more than two-thirds score below 50, on a scale from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).”

“Poorly equipped schools, counterfeit medicine and elections decided by money are just some of the consequences of public sector corruption. Bribes and backroom deals don’t just steal resources from the most vulnerable – they undermine justice and economic development, and destroy public trust in government and leaders,” it added.

“Countries at the bottom need to adopt radical anti-corruption measures in favour of their people. Countries at the top of the index should make sure they don’t export corrupt practices to underdeveloped countries,” advised TI Chair, José Ugaz.

My brother I noticed, but it really gets my goat when people talk about our importation mania like it is a good thing. China is slowly destroying our production capacity, and yet Jonathan is borrowing more and more from them and letting in every damn product. We need jobs here too, in case he hasn't noticed. We can't all be employed in the buying and selling of imported goods.

Even your mates will not believe you

1.So which made in Nigeria goods will you buy if the raw materials you will use are not there? He starved industries.

GEJ wanted to increase tarriff on toks to support auto policy and when he noticed that we have the capacity yet, he postponed the commencement. The ban on the importation of rice is delayed until we fully sufficient. We are doing great at the moment.
Gush what kind of argument are you bringing forward?

2. Inflating prices you said? If you are a trader who bought a tin of milk at 6 naira and you sell at N8, is that price inflation. Buhari made them sell at 4 naira which is below cost price.

3. He had 20 months. Do you know how many months that will be upto in civilian regime? No house to approve budget. Budget starts on the first of january. No senate to approve appointments.
No house to approve bills or sit on your bills.
Your words become laws as they exit your lips.
Sir, 20 months is equivalent to more 48 months of civilian rule. No excuse.
Besides, the naira was superior to the dollar. Whatever he wanted to buy, he would buy.

4. lol. You fix export deficit by closing the borders without adequate preparation...... grin

We are done with this discussion. Clap for yourself

See the kind of people defending Buhari?

Where is theV0ice. Come and seee ooo grin grin grin grin
Please hold your ignorance. We lack many byproducts for the plastics and fertiliser industry because we do not maintain our refineries. We have the leather and cotton for our clothing etc needs but we are fixated on oil and imports. We have lead, zinc, gold, coal, uranium... A plethora of natural resources, but because we lack focus importation seems easier. China did not develop this way they learnt to manufacture for their needs first, then for the export market. We cannot have leaders with a traders mentality. We even import bottled water, pencils and chalk for goodness sake. The largest number of jobs is produced by a healthy manufacturing sector, but here we are after 16 years of pdp rule and we are still talking about electricity ($16bn plus spent on...?), water, and roads. No country should be proud that it is importation dependent to the degree we are. Buhari demonstrated the better direction, and I vaguely remember the 'made in Nigeria' trade fairs that seemed to travel round the country.

I wonder if the person who wrote the article fell from Mars out a Green Man's rump.

Even on twitter, Buhari's followers outnumbered Jonathan's in less than a month after Buhari created a handle.

Facebook isn't different. Same goes to Nairaland most other social platforms.

If indeed what the writer is saying is true, why then do even die hard Jonathan's fans refer to Buhari as the Social Media President??

Honestly, not even interested in all these trash anymore. PDP should be proscribed and Jonathan thrown in jail without trial when Buhari gets sworn in May 29th 2015, along with all the current service chiefs for high treason.

Disgusting bunch of troglodytes.
To tell you what a fraud this report is, they obviously has omitted any mention of the voluminous discussions tying GEJ and his government with corruption and incompetence. Interesting.

Sorry brother, I must point something out to you. This is something that, sadly is associated with APC supporters imo. The propensity for anger.

Because of a six week delay, you felt great anger? Really?

Because there is a delay, to you it is a PDP provocaton for violence?

I find many APC supporters quite violent in their outlook, the answer to anything, with them is violence.

It's a pity you and others are not provoked to anger against BH. That way Nigerians can actually benefit from such a negative emotion. We need people like you registering for the armed forces, in fact.

There is just a delay of six weeks, calm down.

Rest assured that the APC is getting information from the army and all other agencies because most of them are not happy with their politicisation. Look at the Ekiti rigging tape. The APC obtained the information before the Osun election. Many in the security services are not impressed by Jonathan and want change. This postponement was forseen by the party and now the electoral bravado of the pdp has been exposed. I am sure the APC will respond in an appropriately intelligent manner to frustrate every plan of the pdp. But the aftermath of the election will be hard on the pdp. The gloves must come off. To threaten our democracy over the ambitions of a man as useless as Jonathan, is indeed a step too far. All political agents in the army and security services must be purged under Buhari.
