I just discovered this thread and this Seun's post has got me thinking. I have OZ PR but working in NZ and I was thinking of either doing a transfer to my firm's Melbourne office or just moving there and getting a job. I've loved most of the things I read about Melbourne until I started hearing about the Sudanese issue. And with this post I'm worried, although truth is there are racial issues everywhere, I haven't experienced any racial issue since I moved to New Zealand, I'm the only black guy in my firm and we all get along well.

I'm an auditor so I work with different clients who are white , they're all quite nice. To be honest though sometimes in the streets I do wonder what people are thinking when I walk past, there are a few blacks here, you'll at least see like 1 per day, who will nod or smile at you unto say una no many. But I sometimes maybe I overthink things, like if I see a lady coming on the otherside and clutching her bag, I'd wonder if she's doing so because she sees a black guy coming or its just how she holds her bag normally. In a country like Australua or New Zealand, you will you can't help but feel like the odd one sometimes, you're not in Naija. So you just gotta focus on why you're there, build your home and give your family a better life.

I'm planning on moving back to OZ and specifically Melbourne so I can get my OZ passport, and by my estimation, I should be able to pay deposit for mortgage within a year. I think Australia is not for the faint of heart, you need to work and hustle. If you're a professional doing a menial job, don't stay there, find ways to improve yourself while you're doing it, I've met lots of indians who have low paying day jobs and use their car for uber after work. My bro did menial jobs for 9 months, today he's fully recognised as a Doctor and earning good pay, he is in the process of building his house.

PS. When I'm about to finally make my Melbourne move I'm gonna come here to get pointers from those who live there.

Hello all, its been a while since I came here, congrats to everyone who have been successful, and to those yet to succeed, dont stop oh.

Just to update you guys on my situation, which I must say is a bit unique. Though I have Australian PR now, I am currently living and working in New Zealand. I left Naija last week, on the 11th, but about 2 months before leaving I started applying for jobs,I received lots of regret mails, but in the midst of those I got interviewed as well bybsome other firms and had video interviews with 3 accounting firms (I work as an auditor) and these interviews I believe would have landed me an offer if not that I got another offer and emailed the firms about my decision not to continue.

Like I once mentioned on this thread, your Australian PR gives you the right to work and live in both Australia and New Zealand. I was able to leverage on the resources within my firm to secure a job with the same accounting firm in New Zealand, I received my offer before resigning, na God do am. My flight was via Dubai, I spent about 24 hours there and emirates lodged me in a hotel and this gave me the opportunity to go see the city, it was great experience. I also had to do a stopover in Australia to activate my PR, I arrived Australia on the 13th, the jet lag was not too bad for me sha. On the 14th I went to register for Medicare, open a bank account and also got a tax number, I received a temporary medicare printout while I was told the main one would be sent in two weeks. With that done, I chilled in Oz for a day and early on the 16th I flew to Melbourne from there to New Zealand.

My job is in the capital, Wellington, though it isnt the biggest city, Auckland is the commercial capital of the country. Upon arrival in New Zealand, I had no issues with immigration, my passport was stamped and I proceeded to my accomodation. Between the 18th and today, I have gone to open a bank account and apply for my tax number. They dont have medicare like OZ although the government subsidises costs for you. So far things have been okay, not many Africans in the city , I see one or two everyday though. Wellington is a nice small city, weather is about the same as Australia which was cold for me by the way, the temprature is about 9-11 degrees and winter is already over oh but its still cold. If I had know I would have brought more clothes to protect from the cold, mufflers included.

Based on my time in both countries I think Wellington is a bit more expensive in terms of a decent accomodation than Australia and as you know rent is the biggest cost to be incurred.

I'll end this long post by advising accountants, start looking for jobs a month before you leave, its accounting, IFRS is the same everywhere, if you have ACCA, you can easily convert in both countries. One thing I did while Looking for a job was to include my visa status in my CV, so under the heading I had this "Visa Status- Australian Permanent Resident" that way they know thay you have work rights. Although one recruiter called me and asked me when I would be in Australia and I told him I had a job in Naija and was hoping to get an offer before moving, he said I may not get but to call him when I arrive. So you might be lucky and an offer will come while you're still in Naija and it will just make things easier.

But all I'm saying is, dont limit yourself to Australia alone, Goodluck! Please pardon my typos and grammar its 11:43pm.

Not to sound like a sour puss, though a good idea, like someone said, this will be difficult to maintain. This thread is one of the first you see when you google Aussie PR, plus in this travel section its way up and newbies can always see it. This thread has a ton of information and its great that bellong is still here and goes back to update page zero whenever there is an update. My question is how would newbies find the site?
Do you intend to redirect them there from here? (MODS might not like that) and one you dont have newbies to the thread who just started the process it will be difficult to keep tge site alive. Like someone mentioned all the older guys on this thread rarely come here because they're now more occupied with other stuff since getting their PR.

I was going through the documents required for self employed ..

1 audited financial statements for the relevant period
2 company registration documents
3 taxation documents
4 examples of major contracts
5 advertising and marketing material
6 company profile or prospectus
7 memberships of any business or professional associations.


I'm self employed but I don't have some of these documents.

Get any small accounting firm to prepare audited financial statements for your company, shouldn't cost too much. Bear in mind that you cannot say you earn 200k per month then your company only has revenue of 100k or some ridiculous amount, be sure that you put in correct numbers.

I believe you should have your company registration documents.

Once you have your audited financial statements, look for someone who works with the tax authorities or pleas your case, tell them you need tax clearance for your company, they'll tell you how much to pay and thats that.

I dont know the type of company you run but I'm sure you must have at some point entered into contracts with customers/suppliers, that's that.

For advertising material; fliers, proposals, etc

Sure you must have a company prospectus or profile that details what tge companies does and tboae running it.

Lastly I want to believe tou belong to some association, submit your membership vertifocate.

Its not easy oh, anyone going to Australia should know that you have to work hard oh, no be beans oh. I can relate to your story, my relative a medical doctor before he left naija got there and did menial jobs, not medicine related oh, correct menial job for almost a year. He studied , passed his exams and now he works as a Doctor in a hospital. God will crown our efforts. We dey come.

PS; Our Nigerian PCC usually have 3-month validity. Fortunately, DIBP still takes it as one year, so no need to panic like I did when I got my PCC from Alagbon and saw 3-months validity. In the same vain, my UK PCC didn't carry an expiry date, but I guess DIBP will still deem it valid for 1 year.

Oh really, they'll still accept it after expiry up till a year? Didn't know that. @jbelieve there you go.

For PCC its best to do it when you have gotten your invitation to apply for visa and ready to pay and submit cos it only lasts for 3 months. Same applies for medicals, there's a number that will be generated from your immi account which you can only access when you have been invited to apply, you'll take the number to the medical center. Based on my experience your medicals determine your entry date (I stand to be corrected) so its best to do medicals like 4 days before you pay, by that time your results would have been uploaded and you'll be submitting a complete application.

Getting all the documents you need ready including medicals outcome and PCC just before submitting your application and uploading them once you've paid, hopefully once you are assigned to a case officer, they see you've submitted all required docs and as such may not need to contact you for additional documents.

Wow, been reading from page 320, my people I hail. Big ups to everyone, been a long while with no grants, stay positive it'll come. I just wanted to say that it is very important to front load all your docs, CO contact can prolong your application. I know someone with 70 points got CO contact twice in 4 weeks, his last contact was in April, he has not heard back from them or received grant since then. I front loaded and was lucky to receive my grant in 9 days without contact, just my advice.
Also, for those who may not know, your Australian PR gives you automatic PR status in New Zealand on entry. I'm working towards relocating by late August, I've applied for jobs and done some skype interviews - hoping for the best, its not a bad idea to try to get a job before leaving, if you can...it will surely end in praise for us all.

ACCA has an arrangement with Chartered accountants of New Zealand and Australia (CAANZ) if you have ACCA you can easily convert to CAANZ without issues.

The evidence your brother provided for his work experience does not match what they expect the job functions of a chemist to be. For you to get a positive assessment the experience should align with the Anzsco job description. They were satisfied with the degree but not the work experience. Sometimes you just need to be smart when submitting your CV and statement of service (the one provided by your employer). By being smart I mean; where you know that by Naija's standards you're doing the work of a chemist, you should have simply aligned your experience with what is in the anzsco description for chemist, as long as your employer would have been satisfied that those functions were part of your responsibilities. How you word these things also matter, I stand to be corrected but I think vetasses follows the anzsco job description to the latter, but will give room for modifications based on job done, they don't expect you to have done everything stated by anzco but to a large extent most of the functions.

Your options; If you believe that your job function closely relates to that provided by anzsco, you may appeal the outcome of your assessment.

You may also consider nominating another occupation that the job function aligns with what you have provided, but then you must remember that your qualification will also be re-assessed and needs to still be related to the new nominated occupation.

Vetasses has your details now, i don't think you can go and simply realign you experience and submit another assessment for the same occupation, doing that will look fishy.

I was lucky I did mine on a Monday and I was the only one at UKEAS Ikeja, I went to work afterwards. Guys should try taking the test on a Monday or any other weekday.

You are better off buying return ticket without IOM. Buying each way will result to penny wise pounds foolish.

One way ticket is usually very expensive. If you get a deal with IOM for the go, adding the cost of the back ticket will be way more than buying the return direct.

When are you traveling? I can ask a travel agent friend if possible you can get a good return ticket deal.

Very doable; point to note though, the available checked allowance on some return tickets originating from Oz is about 30kg vs. 45/46kg when the ticket originates from Africa. Just a tiny point to note.

However, for a single person I doubt this would matter much.

The assessing body is vetasses and to get a positive assessment your qualifications must be highly relevant to the nominated occupation.

I intended to nominate Human Resource adviser unfortunately it was removed from the list. I have been researching cuz I do not intend to give up on this dream. I have b. SC in public administration and I did some courses like :

Intro to philosophy
Intro to psychology
Conflict resolution
Social change and problems
Intro to sociology
Rural and community development
Project planning and implementation
Govt and administration of urban system
Public personal administration
Development administration
Social and welfare administration
Public budgeting system... Etc

As a result of the above, I intend to nominate Community worker. I have a relation that runs an NGO in this area, worked with him briefly after NYSC before getting employment in HR. I can be able to provide evidence of employment in line with the job description. Family, do you think the courses/ degree mentioned above can be positively assessed for Community worker? The tasks for community worker does seem close to the courses you mentioned. Be sure that the NGO is registered and recognized, vetassess requested for the company incorporation documents of the company I worked with. To be safe though you can pay for the skills assessment support to give you an idea if your course matches the occupation (looks like it does).

Hello Mr belong & everyone... trust u all doing great... been an off and on person on this thread as I feel its a cumbersome process back then which requires a lot of finances to make it become reality. oh well I chickened out back then because I had no funds to carry on this process and no job experience per say.. but with the Glory of God, I have some lil work experience teaching @ a college in South Africa (2years & 2months)... I recently did a free evaluation with delta immigration to peruse my chances of making the required points for my desired subclass i.e 189 but it seems I might in reality be short of points from the evaluation which is 60points... this is a breakdown of my points

N.B my assessing body is AITSL for skilled occupation SEC SCH TEACHER

Age - 30points
Qualifications - 15
IELTS in view - realistically as an objective person from all studies on many forum I feel I can only make 10points on this. ALSO CONSIDERING MY PRACTICE RESULTS THAT I HAVE DONE... having a band of 8(superior English) in all bands to get 20points might be tough one so I already realistically scored myself (10 points)
Experience : 0 points

TOTAL= 55POINTS

pls my query to everyone with suggestions is this.... the agency where I did a free evaluation put something in perspective for me i.e I might be able to get 5points for work experience in 10months time having just worked for 2years and 2months as at now. but the reality is I have a one year experience from NYSC when I did my nysc, teaching in a secondary school but as we all know I don't have a concrete evidence to show for this asides my NYSC certificate which does not even indicate my place of primary assignment.

If you really did do the NYSC (I'm not saying that you didn't), go there, meet the principal, if you are lucky they wont ask you to wet their pockets, you might even type the letter you want and give them to sign, as long as you worked there, I believe they'll help.

Unizik for accountant is 10point which is Associate degree. I think is only engineering that can qualify you to 15 point . Well chidike can clarify that.

@Seajea I got 15 points for my Unizik cert, but my course is 5 years, Estate Management.

Permanent resident visa is processed from Australia. South Africa handles temporary visa.

Speed depends on the CO and the applicant's history.

Guys, what do you think could be some reasons why some grants show faster than other, asides incomplete documents. I think in the past the Visa applications used to be processed in South Africa (Still is) but for whatever reason some are processed in Brisbane and the ones in Brisbane usually come out really fast.
