To insinuate or allude or even presume that her looks should be the basis for judging her is to suggest that she needs to be, look a certain way. AmenhotepZuid: This one needs SERIOUS EDUCATION. I dont blame but blame your inferior education system. SOUTH AFRICA IS STILL THE MOST ADVANCE ECONOMY IN AFRICA AND DIFFICULT TO MEASURE BECAUSE OF THE WAY OUR ECONOMY IS DESIGNED. Very different to the rest of AFRICA.
Let me give hints on S.A.s 3 LEGGED POT STYLE economy. Where the government, private sector and banking sector work together to achieve one goal serving the people of S.A.
THE JOHANNESBURG STOCK EXCHANGE MARKET CAP IS OVER $1 TRILLION AND THATS DOUBLE nigerias REBASED GDP (False legs/high heels ).
THE BANKING SECTOR SA's richest banks dominate the top 10 in AFRICA. 1. Standard Bank-$ 165 billion 2. ABSA Bank-$ 97 billion 3. First National Bank-$ 85 billion 4. Ned Bank-$ 80 billion 5. Sasfin Bank-$ 2 billion 12. Standard Bank-$ 150 million TOTAL Roughly $388 billion
S.A. RICHEST COMPANIES EXCLUDING MINING, AGRICULTURAL AND FISHING, MANUFACTURING. 1. SANLAM-$ 53 billion 2. MMI Holdings- $ 37 Billion 3. SASOL-$ 26 billion 4. MTN-$ 22 billion 5. I cant remember denigrating your country with my earlier post, but like a rabid dog you jumped at me, this news was as at yesterday, it is best you focus on that. Just to provide a feedback on this. I got in touch with my contact at my school's records office, paid another round of money for sending the paper verification to WES via courier. They did the same, And after some few days, WES got back and confirmed "Accepted" on my documents, moving away from the initial "Received Documents Awaiting Verification". huh! Are you implying electronic verification doesnt work? After a long back and forth, my school finally sent an electronic mail verification last week wednesday or thursday. I noticed my online status changed on thursday from "awaiting verification from institution" to " evaluation in progress". Ibime: Rejoinder to the lawyers statement ripped from a friend's FB Wall:
RASHIDI WAS NOT THE PROBLEM, IT IS THE PEOPLE LEFT BEHIND, INCLUDING THE LAWYER: A REJOINDER TO THE ARTICLE ON MAMA YEKINI
I read this article yesterday and planned not to respond until we complete our Project Mama Yekini (PMY) here so it doesn't distract us. However, I made a rethink as it may be too late.
The article was published on SR yesterday and written by Yekini's lawyer, Rashidi Mohammed. While I would have preferred not getting drawn into their family affairs and focus entirely on justifying the obvious fact that the woman needs help, it has become imperative to also set some records straight based on information available to me too.
As someone experienced in projects of coordinating fund raising for like 5 years now, I knew that the first action expected of me was to VERIFY the case beyond reports in the media.
Thankfully, this was easy as I'm from that part of the country and I have trusted friends here who can help us with verification. So two of our friends here, one a medical doctor, the other the Registrar of a College of Education, volunteered to do all they can to access the woman and assess the situation.
They swung into action, sought approval of DPO of the area, saw a local traditional chief and uncle of Yekini. Although, a couple of people mounted resistance thinking they were men of the press, our verification team finally accessed the woman after telling them their mission, which additional promise by the medical doctor to return later to do health check to her.
They came back and reported what they saw and heard.
1, The woman is obviously not in good financial state. Apart from 3 loaves of bread and few N20 biscuits that were her stock, there was nothing in that shop. There was an old, rusting, empty probably non-functional fridge.
2, The woman has an account in a local microfinance bank, but she was duped of N100k, about her last savings, by a very close person recently. I'm not mentioning names because we don't want to be drawn into their family affairs.
4, We heard about what the wives and the lawyer (the writer of that SR article) did in sharing Rashidi's inheritance, but we would prefer not to publicize it, because we don't want to be drawn into their family affairs.
5, We have information about the habit of a close person that is meant to be taking care of her. Unfortunately, it's not a character of responsibility.
5, Looking for answer to the lawyer's question on how the woman spends the rent, look no further than the above. 6, Yes, the woman is herself generous as we heard story of how she relinquished some of her meagre share in Yekini's inheritance to another family member (estranged wife, we heard) just for peace to reign.
In conclusion, I agree with the lawyer that it is unfair to castigate Rashidi as he was not the problem. He took care of her when alive. As someone from that part too, I know old, unlettered women, no matter how successful their offspring are, still like petty home trading, selling soft drinks, biscuits etc. In fact, some men see that as a way to keep them active rather than staying indoor all day (when their children are in Kaduna, Ibadan, Lagos even London) and aging easily. I confirm that it's a common thing in ilu oke. I also made that shop provision for my mum when I completed my countryhome in 2013. But that Yekini's case is extreme. While it was true that she had been using that shop even when Yekini was alive and successful, the state of that shop now (3 loaves of bread, 5 biscuits and old damaged fridge) shows someone living below the basic standard of life.
So the problem is not Rashidi Yekini, it is the people left behind that should have taken responsibility of the care of that woman, including the lawyer-writer, that are the problem The woman looked unkempt from the pix SR posted fuelling the high possibility she is not properly taken care of, she also didnt look cheerful . Even if she has 10 million in her account, someone younger close to her should monitor her to ensure she is well fed, wears neat clothes, takes drugs if necessary and takes her bath regularly. It is quite unfair to heap blames on SR, they did a good job by reporting the story accompanied with pix. A pictures speaks a 1000 words, even though i must confess it is not always right. |
Sports › Re: Yekini Never Neglected His Mother – Lawyer by chinchum(m): 12:27pm On May 08, 2016 |
It is a perception issue, Sahara reporters did not report the woman to be hawking bread, selling bread at a designated spot is different from hawking bread, a picture of the mother was also shown, the woman looked somewhat shrivelled and unkempt, and one might be force to make a quick assumption she is neglected. It is the good the lawyer has come out to set the records straight. |

The Next Governor after Aregbesola will now have to put less focus on buildings, but recruitment of teachers, training and motivation of the current ones. trillville: My issue with civil servants is that they are being paid to do nothing. If the civil servants chose to become productive bricklayers, why should any lose his or her job? We have too many white collar workers that's why graduate level unemployment is so high.
In the UK, less than 30 percent of jobs require university degrees, hence many British finish education at the ordinary diploma level, yet they live well and render quality services.
We all complain about how subsidies lead to corruption. Is it not corruption to take what belongs to everybody and give it to a few people for free without any benefit to the everybody like?
The fact that my views are different doesn't make them unrealistic. Both US and UK governments subsidise housing for their poor.
The idea of building mass housing is not just altruistic but also economically wise. If nigeria were to set up mass building projects, individuals such as cement producers, building material producers, architects, builders, labourers, cooks, etc, will all benefit directly at the same time will promote healthier standards on living reducing nigerias overall medical cost.
Mass building is not the only form on infrastructure nigeria needs. Our schools, hospitals, power plants, irrigation systems, roads, etc need to be built or rebuilt. I am advocating for a shift from paying ineffectual civil/public servants money from oil revenues to spending on infrastructure.
The South Korean government created daewoo to spur economic development. We don't produce steel yet and also have insufficient amounts of electricity. Luckily, we kickstart our economy through infrastructural projects.
As I said yesterday, considering the lack of benefits nigerians derive from oil revenues, it would be morally wrong for us to pay taxes to the Federal government only for such monies to be spent on civil/public workers who contribute little or nothing to our lives.
Finally, there is also a price to pay for whatever situation we find ourselves. Today we have poor electricity, water, health care, roads, etc. Tomorrow we may have a few hungry civil servants. Someone has to pay the price. What matters most are our long term goals of being a great nation.
Built by csar Peter the Great, St. Petersburg one of europes most beautiful cities, was built on marshy land, which was fortified with the bones of Russian brick layers and masons who built it. Same story has been said about the great Wall of China.
While I am not advocating for such events to happen in today's world, I am only trying to illustrate that for progress to be made a price may have to be paid. Mass housing is not a bad idea, as long it comes with a fair mortgage facility. People can pay for houses for as long as 20 years. Many of the Okada riders learnt a trade, and are artisans who abandoned their trade for commercial bike operations, that is a symptom. The rootcause is not far fetched. Unemployment of graduates is not necessarily high because we have too many white collar workers, it is high because the basics that will spur creation of productive and creative jobs are missing. The unemployment rate is high, because few jobs are created compared to the teeming millions of youths that need employment. Nigeria has a median age of 18 or thereabout, meaning close to 100 million of Nigeria's 200 million are 18 years and below. Not all civil servants are being paid for doing nothing, i think we must make fair assessment, some are actually overworked, nevertheless there can be gradual disengagement of those found to be surplus to requirement, and some parastatals or ministries can be commercialised, meaning they must make what they spend on wages and running cost. |
