Thank you. So before you went in December you didn't have an enrolment letter for the approved student visa? I am asking because I plan to go get my study permit and accommodation in March and return home before finally leaving in May to start my studies.

MsLoolah:

It’s all right ☺️

Basically you can’t be in Canada without a status for more than 150 days.
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by Chipo14: 10:09am On Feb 07, 2022
Good morning. I don't have an answer for or input for you but Please what is the 150 day rule?

MsLoolah:
Good morning all,

Please I need the gurus in the house to help me out here.

My husband and I applied separately for a Canadian student Visa last year, he was refused in May, but I was approved in June.

We applied for the second time for his as he would like to further his education as well, he doesn’t have a BSC and would like to get one. We included everything possible, however this time instead of his brother sponsoring him, he is sponsoring himself, we included what he’s been doing since graduating secondary school and what he is doing now, with strong SOP but was refused again.

Now we have been advised to apply for a spousal open work permit (sowp), once I get my study permit and then he can come and join me. I also ordered for the gcms so we can see what we are missing.

I traveled to Canada in December to obtain a study permit, on getting there I found a school I prefer much more than the one I initially applied with, I applied for a 4 yr bsc even though I already have a masters, but it’s a different degree. Now I found a shorter version of the course which is 2 years diploma.

I applied to the school and I am awaiting decision, however the school resumes in sept 2022 which exceeds the 150 day out of school rule, so I can’t change my dli on the portal. Instead, I came back to Nigeria as I didn’t want to violate any rules while I await response for the school and re apply for a new study visa.

Now my question is, can I include my husband in this new application as accompanying and apply for a SOWP without it affecting my decision because I don’t want to do this without him, we have been married not even 2 years and I am dreading separating from him.

Also we have ordered the gcms notes and should get it before the new application, that way we can see the issue on his applications.

I have a good travel history and my bsc and msc is for a uk university, I also have an active 10 year Uk visa.

I just need to know if we should go ahead with our decision or any advice that can be rendered will be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance

That's great. Where are you headed?

I plan to just touch ground and return home before leaving finally in April. I need all my study permit details to apply for my kids and spouse to travel with me.

I also plan to travel in March just like you.. school resumes in May

Hello Nairalanders, pls can anyone help clarify if I can travel to Canada in March for a course starting in May?

I know the rules were relaxed but I'm not sure again after the Omicron scare in December.

Kindly assist with this information.

Good morning Nairalanders and compliment of the season.

Please gurus in the house kindly assist with your suggestion on how to proceed with my spouse and child's visa application. I got PPR back in August but unfortunately lost my spot to start study in September and only got admitted for May 2022. I intend to start application for my child of 5 and spouse this weekend. Can I do it under my Gckey or do I open a new one with my spouse details?

Since I don't have. A student status yet in Canada I plan to apply for visiting visa for both of them. Will that be that right choice of visa? Or can I just go ahead to apply for SOWP and study visa for my child right now?

I will gladly appreciate any insight that can assist me.

Thank you.

Congratulations to all PPR recipients and may it end in praise for all those still waiting.

You all remember I got my PPR in August and by then my DLI had withdrawn me from the program. All effort to get back in has been futile. I decided to move on and apply for the next intake (winter 2022) only to be told that it's already closed and I should be on the look out for May 2022. So for now I have 9 months to wait. Gurus in the house, I hope this does not affect my visa in any negative way?

I know I can still get admitted into similar programs elsewhere but is it advisable since I will have to submit a new study permit application? 8 months is a long time to wait again after 6months wait for visa.

But I am still open to ideas on what to do about this. Thank you all

In this world wahala no dey finish. So here I am with a PPR and no Admission. I was withdrawn from my program and my tuition deposit of 2000 CAD is forfeited. Sigh!!

What's the process of changing my DLI please? And will it cost anything? My initial admission was for a year program which means I will have to enroll for another of 6months or longer to get the 3yr PGWP. My intended DLI is university of Manitoba. I am still search if I can get a longer program with them. I intend to do applied business analysis as I have an MBA already. Please gurus your input is needed.

Please I need help on what to do next. I thought I have read tons of message here about sending passport to VFS but I seem confused right now.

I intend to send my passport to the Visa office. I have my consent form signed, 2 copies of passport data page and the original passport. I also paid a fee of about N8,000 at VFS office because I can't locate the biometric slip I was given in 2018 when I did my biometric. I have printed the passport request letter too.

So please help me with next step. Do I just take all of these to DHL office? I was given the attached at VFS office when I went to pay for missing biometric slip. Please help as I intend to submit tomorrow.

Being truthful is key. I disclosed my masters and still got approved for a post graduate certificate. But as we know no two application is same and Everything depends on if it makes sense to the officer assigned to your case.

But I see no reason to lie when there's a chance of getting caught. My opinion though.

Anon123:

Your application will not be approved based on purpose of visit.

If you are interested in pgd, do not mention your masters anywhere in your application or include the certificate.

Thanks everyone for your insight. I may have gotten back into the September stream as it seems they are considering the passionate appeal I sent earlier today. I await their final decision. Below is my timeline;

Application submitted - February 19
NSE request - February 25
Responded March 5
NSE ack - March 10. (I had everything for NSE except mybankstatement cos as at the time I wasn't aware first bank had it.)
Upfront medical updated - July 5
First GCMS - July 21 pre-assessment note said I didn't provide business documents for my sponsor (spouse) source of income. Recommend interview.
BVL - August 23
PPR - August 24

I came across this thread when I was getting frustrated with the wait. While I got to learn a lot from here it also made me start to doubt my decision about my application. I got two admissions one for PGD and the other for PGC. I choose to go for the PGC in applied business analysis. I have 14yrs experience in financial services marketing with a just concluded MBA in January 2021. I stated this in my 1.5page SOP. I attached my MBA admission letter and the results that were out as at the time which I later realized would have worked against me. I didn't pay much attention to the application as I was confident on my POF, personal asset and family ties (spouse and kids) will get me thru. Nairaland really opened my eyes and sometimes I get panic attacks when I visit here.

During the waiting period I wrote the MP and didn't get a response nor acknowledgement. I also couldn't send the business documents the junior VO couldn't see even though it was there initially. I sent several webforms some I got acknowledged other were ignored. About 2 weeks ago I ordered my second GCMS note and tried sending additional documents via webform and I was successful. I didn't know if the additional documents made a difference or not but I guess my pending gcms notes will tell.

P.S. I was refused Canada visit visa twice in 2018

Wish there was. But I have mailed them though. Waiting if there can be any remedy.

Congratulations.... But really, this doesn't make any sense at all. Is it your fault that a decision wasn't made on time. It's like this schools are indirectly extorting students money. I wish there's a legal action you
an take on this seriously. Very painful.

They had excess applicants because of deferrals and were looking for ways to reduce the excess enrollees. They wrote me in July asking for my visa status and gave till August 6 for me to respond. I was advised to withdraw from the program which I was advised against here as someone said it will invalidate my application with IRCC. I was withdrawn by the school and hence my deposit forfeited
Thaiy:

Congratulations on your ppr.....I believe something might be worked out for you, reach your school and tell them of your approval, that it just dropped and that you already made some deposits whereas your candidacy was withdrawn by them while you were waiting for IRCC decision.

Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by Chipo14: 7:22am On Aug 24, 2021
I exhausted all possible options with them and the only ground I will get a refund is a refusal from IRCC. To be honest I had almost given up on my application and have started researching UK options.

Akanoa:

Congratulations . You can reach out to the school maybe they can work out something for you.

Yes. I can apply again though. I was meant to resume in May but deferred to September cos of IRCC delay and got a deadline of August 6 to complete tuition which I didn't meet as I was unsure of my application status.

So after 6 months and 5 days my wait finally ended with a PPR.

I got the correspondence letter yesterday and wanted to rush to post it only to see people getting correspondence letters and still getting refused. So I calmed down to see the final decision.

I got the mail exactly 6:22 am and I froze. It came with mixed feelings because my school has withdraw me from the program and my tuition deposit of $2000 cad forfeited. It would have been refunded if I got refused.

It's not about the tone of my mails. My initial resumption date was May 6th which was deferred to September 9 due to IRCC delay in finalizing approvals.

I am entitled to my refund provided I didn't register for courses or join the orientation due for September 9. The school however is trying to reduce numbers of enrollees as they currently have more numbers than they want to take for fall. My tuition balance is due on August 9 which secure my spot for September. I was asked to confirm status of my visa latest today or apply for a refund by August 9.

SoFaithly:

Well, I don’t know the tone of your email to them, but not withstanding, you have a right to your refund EXCEPT if you already registered for courses. Course registration is what seals your contract with the school, and once this is done, you are liable to pay your full tuition even if you never attended the classes afterward.

My candid advice: Relax on courses registration till you have the outcome of your study permit. And if your study permit gets approved after your classes resumption; write a fresh request for deferral of your studies (you don’t need to mention that your permit have been approved), and if they decline your request which I doubt they will, automatically, you are entitled to a full refund as long as it becomes obvious that the fault isn’t on you, and you haven’t signed off for courses.

Thank you. This makes do much sense.

MOBAN444:

B4 the gurus come, here is my take:
- A refund invalidates your LOA.
- Apply for a fresh admission, pay the application fee and secure the admission.
- Write to the school and transfer the sch fees to the new admission.
- If the sch refunds you before the new admission lands, pay the fees immediately you secure the admission.

So I informed my DLI that I am yet to get a visa in response to their mail requesting for an update on my resumption status. I told them I am still waiting for a decision and may seek a deferral to winter or summer 2022. I was told they cannot defer again and I should send them a withdrawal letter by August so they can process refund of tuition deposit.

I am considering starting my studies as the fall semester is commencing online by September. I will however not be eligible for a refund if my application is denied after commencing online. I will also not be able to complete the program as it has mandatory 240hrs industry placement before I can graduate.

I need the gurus to advise me cause at this junction confusion is confusing my confusion. February 19 applicant
