Atiku is the only one in APC that can be described as a Presidential material and may have a credible chance to defeat PDP.
One does not worry about APC any more with illiterate almajiri dogs such as kwankwaso even believing they can rule Nigeria through APC!

oilykid: I hope that is what they are actually planning to do.what becomes of the old ones then??
They will stay where they are to support the new ones. Nigeria obviously doesn't have enough transformers to meet the electricity demand. So the old ones can still be used or can also be deployed to places with clusters of industries. They are industrial transformers anyway which are designed to be installed in front of heavy industries or factories to guarantee their power supply.
PoliticsRe: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by cjrane:
oilykid: here is what I mean
Hurrah! Nigeria is finally doing things the right way!!!

I am very happy with the method of elevating small transformers on poles and using the small transformers to step up the electricity every few blocks. This is the modern way to evenly spread the load and prevent frequent transformers blow-out from over load! In Europe and many parts of USA, i noticed they hang their transformers between two poles as in the picture, or sometimes hang the little cylindrical transformer on one pole, every few blocks. Some of these transformers are the same size as a big paint bucket! Yet, the entire neighborhood use their A/C without any problems! Elevating the transformers on poles, not only solve the issue of finding land space for them, it also protect them from vandalism and flooding, they are placed just at the right points to boost the electricity around the entire city.

I am glad they are finally rejecting the old NEPA method of having one massive transformer in one street corner for an entire neighborhood, which often cause such massive transformers to over heat and blow up.Putting an entire neighborhood in darkness for months. Not to mention the fact that those who live farthest away from the massive neighborhood transformers always have to contend with perpetual half current.

Oga Sirius,
One cannot doubt your patriotism to Nigeria and I understand your aim to provide sincere answers to all these classified weapons questions.
But as a soldier, you know first hand that when the enemy knows your plan, strategy and type of weapons, you be walking into a deadly trap.

Some of these people asking about weapons are Boko Haram. I am getting uncomfortable the way you answer them. This now borders on national security.

Since the revolution in the movie industry began in 1992 with the blockbuster movie, ‘Living in Bondage,’ the industry, which recently turned 20 years, has grown in leaps and bounds, to the extent that it was rated the third largest in the world in terms of quantity.

Even at that, the industry has greatly improved as practitioners are now shooting world standard movies shown in cinemas at home and abroad. They are more recognised and appreciated globally.

However, for a movie to become a success, a lot of factors come into play and that includes; the storyline, setting, characterisation, costume and property. All these factors are interwoven into one another but the primary focus of this piece is, setting or location.

Right from when ‘Living in Bondage’ became a reference point in the motion picture industry, the location of the flick, which is Lagos State, became the ‘bomb’ for subsequent movies.

In Lagos, Surulere, which is on the Mainland, became the unofficial headquarters of movie kingdom. Winnies Hotel, located around the Masha area, became a hot spot.

Everyday, aspiring and establishing actors would converge in and around the hotel looking for audition notices or for directors or producers to engage them in acting or to be part of a production crew. The area became so busy and notorious as well.

In the world of acting, where no formal training is required, according to some schools of thought, all manner of human beings would naturally avail themselves of the opportunity to want to take advantage of the situation to better themselves either positively or negatively, especially in a country where unemployment rate is growing astronomically by the day.

The train however shifted to the National Theatre, which provided a bigger space for the army of unemployed youths. Still, they converged under trees for their auditions, while smart ‘alecs’ make brisk business by selling both edible and non edible items to the job seeking wannabe stars.

As the industry continues to wax stronger and new faces emerge, the ever busy Lagos became unconducive to take Nollywood to the next level in terms of having less interference during shooting coupled with the limitation of using some government agencies and establishment in their movies. They moved to Enugu State.

Though, Enugu has been used as locations, but not as pronounced as it later became.

Even as most of the popular actors like Nkem Owoh, Chiewentalu Agu, Ofia Mbaka, among many others, reside in Sullivan Chime’s serene state, many blockbuster movies were shot and produced in Enugu even till date.

As dividends of democracy begin to trickle down and hitherto underdeveloped or/and undiscovered places began to be uncovered, Nollywood also moved.

The next port of call was Asaba, the capital city of Delta State. What they thought can only be obtained in Enugu became what is now taken for granted. Asaba opened a vista of a whole lot of opportunities for the industry as intending thespians and established ones thronged, ‘The Big Heart of the Nation’.

Some took permanent residence. It became so successful that veteran actor and current Commissioner of Tourism in Delta State, Richard Movie Damijo, explained that the attraction of Nollywood to Asaba has to do with what the Emmanuel Uduaguan-led administration has created out of Asaba.

He said: “Nollywood wanted a place that is peaceful, conducive and of course, has enough hotels. What we have done outside of the provision of infrastructure in the town is to make sure that the town is beautiful enough when it is on camera.”

It was also gathered that Asaba, which used to be a ghost town in most weekends, is now full of activities that getting accommodation has become a herculean task. Thanks to the influx of Nollywood activities, which has boosted the social life of the state.

The relative security in the state as attested by producers who most times shoot late into the night without any form of fear or molestation is a very big factor for choice of the filmmakers to do business there. With the flurry of activities in the Delta State capital, businessmen and women have suddenly woken up to the reality of the potentials of the hospitality industry as mega hotels are springing up all over the state capital by the day.

Another plus for Nollywood in the oil-rich Niger Delta region is the use of already made scenery, setting and props for epic movies.

Stephen Keshi’s town of Illa and other places are often used for such movies. Now and then, students in tertiary institutions in the South-East and other states in the South South, hustle there to get a cameo role or crew position.

In fact, it is reported that half of the entire movies produced in Nigeria are done in Asaba.

While Asaba is experiencing an unprecedented boom, courtesy of the foresight of the current administration, a new frontier is gradually being opened for Nollywood.

There is every indication that Awka, the Anambra State capital, is next in line to witness movie production upsurge. With the wonderful developmental infrastructure by the out-gone governor, Peter Obi, the docile town has received tremendous boost and the result is the mass influx of people, especially Nollywoood practitioners, into the now beautiful capital city now being run by Willie Obiano.

Seasoned Nollywood actor and current Senior Special Assistant on Movies/Entertainment, Bob Manuel Udokwu (FCAI), said: “Yes, it is true that Anambra State has taken back its pride of place in the production of movies. By the way, Anambra is still as conducive as it used to be for movie making.

“If you check the list of mainstream Nollywood practitioners, they are from Anambra State. The biggest distribution point in Nigeria is in Onitsha, Anambra. The executive producers have their headquarters in Onitsha. And of course, Anambra State is the light of the nation.

“Take a trip and see for yourself. There are a thousand and one hotels to accommodate any number of people. Even the rural people know that Nollywood people are special people.

“The average Anambra person buy movies, they don’t rent. Apart from all these, the governor has enormous plans to turn the state to a wonder to behold.

“The governor is going to build a world-class hotel in Ogbunike Cave that has been designated by UNESCO as a world heritage site. There will be three major link roads. There are also other tourist destinations like the Aguli

For Browny Igboegwu, another seasoned actor, who has relocated to the South East, Awka has all it takes for a complete movie setting.

Hear him: “For all I know, locations are not many. Nigeria is not a place to build new set and carry it over to the next location. Movie makers are trying to explore new areas. “People in Awka are welcoming movie makers. Asaba is already explored, it is getting saturated. Once you turn on your television, you hear people say, ‘this Asaba people sef’, it is that known.

“But, Awka is a virgin land, there are so many buildings that are yet to be used. They have good location structures.

“Awka also have many villages where one can shoot village scenes or even epic films, unlike Asaba where the only village that is used to shoot local scene is Okpanam village. I think it is a new and welcome development for the motion picture industry.”
Great to see Awka rising....
One thing i have continued to wonder is why our people are not in beef business. What prevents the Anambra and Ebonyi state governments from giving incentives for their citizens to establish cattle ranches. This will not just make beef affordable, but also creates jobs for those who will extract fresh milk, Yogurt etc. More importantly, these yogurt ,milk and ice cream companies can establish around the ranches as we have in developed countries.

One hopes Obiano will consider this in his agriculture revolution and modernization agenda. The present type of cows from the north are so emaciated after walking very long distances from north to south that they cannot produce any milk at all.

Abagworo: . Lol @bolded. Traffic lights don't work in cities with high concentration of vehicles as you have in Owerri. It will lead to disastrous gridlocks because traffic lights are robots and don't work with immediate statistics. You can't attempt it in most parts of Port-Harcourt.
This is typically the reason Nigerians should go abroad to change their warped mentality.Yes, traffic lights work in mega metropolitan centers such as New York, Los Angeles or Atlanta. Even Abuja has traffic lights and everyone knows they don't cause any gridlock as you ignorantly infer. But, the law must be firm to make sure people obey them or they will pay huge fines.
What causes gridlocks is when two opposing traffic are caught at the same time locked and blocking each other in an intersection, then since everybody is usually in a mad hurry and wants to go first. They twist around the intersection and cause a nightmare, which will take hours to sort out. That is what causes gridlocks on all port harcourt roads. Not traffic lights, but their absence and peoples behavior that it wastes their time to obey the traffic light in the few places they exist.

The moment you southerners leave, we the middlebelters would become the southerners of the murderous north and you know what that mean. The only way this country can break peacefully is if you southerners take us with you because the north would not allow us to be on our own.
Truly, if so much hate had not been spewed in Nigeria, Igala,Tiv, Igbira,Berom and other middle belt tribes are very compatible with the southerners.

I have had opportunity to be in Ajaokuta,Jos,Idah, Gboko, Lafia and Jos. I had many Idoma & Igala family friends while i lived at Enugu.I understand many are still there, many years after their parents left the Police and army. I cannot point to one single difference between my family and theirs or even physical differences. Their chics skin shade is even more golden brown than Akwa Ibom girls, talkless Igbo girls! The natives of the middle belt are indeed compatible with southern Nigeria and are completely different from the core northerners you'll see in Kano,Katsina or Yobe. I don't know why anyone will classify them as northerners!

Boko Haram has since infiltrated the army. They have officers who are sympathetic to them as well as many recruits.

The onus is on the Chief of Army staff and the directorate of military intelligence to watch the acquaintances and orders given by certain commanding officers. It is hard to sniff out a mole that knows you are looking for him, but you can atleast make him concentrate so much on not being discovered, that he cannot effectively spy for Boko Haram while serving in the military.

Government is a continuum, the good thing is that we have a government that believes in continuing with the existing projects and initiating new ones. It can only get better!

Below is one of such rural roads did by Peter Obi. This particular road is in Nimo. That was the same way all the communities benefited both on infrastructure, school structures, school buses, libraries, health centers etc..

Anambra adigo mma!
Sweet road !!! It still needs road markings though...
One thing that I am happy has been finally imbibed in the SE road construction,especially by Peter Obi's roads is the provision of ;

good drainage gutters on both ends of the road and tarring the roads from the gutter on the left side to the gutter on the right side!

This ensures that water soaked road shoulder, which is the usual first step in the road's breakdown, does not exist anymore in the SE.By preventing this phenomenon from occurring, the road is guaranteed to last for more than 10 years before they break down. Without gutter to gutter tarring, the heavy rainfall and clay like laterite used to build roads will make them break down in less than 6 months after they encounter a typical rainy season.

We need more attack helicopters and most importantly, with Night fighting capability.

Then use the wolf pack tactics of diving them into teams or battle groups of 2 or 3 helicopters in each group.Even if only 3 attack helicopters are procured this year, a good strategist will know how to use them in surprise attacks against Boko Haram in different parts of Sambisa to unpredictably hit lightly defended BH camps at night. They can also call the Alpha Jets to quickly bomb locations they discover to have heavy BH presence and resistance. This will force BH to continue re-deploying their men every night to evade the helicopters, which will remove the initiative from them of being the ones that determine where and when a skirmish with the Nigerian army should happen.

Depending on F-16 warplanes talk-less of Nigerian Alpha jets alone, to smoke out a highly mobile enemy with plenty of hiding places such as in the Sambisa forest, is like using a caterpillar crane fork-lift to pick up a coca-cola bottle from the floor or to use a shovel to eat a plate of rice instead of using a spoon!

Tanks and artillery are also important tools to support the troops when they run into Boko boys as they push deeper into the Sambisa reserve. But, we have focused too much on these heavy battle tanks and heavy artillery, which are simply also the wrong tools for the job and therefore simply cannot do it.

It must be noted that this country is in its last days. Our northern brothers continue to either misjudge the mood of others to continuous enslavement by the north or they have classically decided they didn't care. Either way, the attempt of the Op to post silly remarks about other regions expose the grave danger that continues to threaten the peaceful existence of Nigeria.

If the British in the height of their power, could not deny independence to Nigeria which was just under 50 million semi-illiterate Africans in 1960, the north should continue to delude itself that it can hold Nigeria together when its constituent parts decide it will be better for them to leave than be subjected to continuous slavery.

Europe came together as EU (European Union to draft the draconian EPA and initially refused African nations to come together as AU to sign it. Instead they insisted that African countries must sign up individually, so that they will not have a collective bargaining power they would have if they signed as a group under Africa Union (AU). PoliticsRe: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by cjrane:
South African cities in spite of the high crime rate of that country attract more international tourists than any city in Nigeria. With direct International flights now reaching Enugu, the only thing I beg Chime to do is to complete his good works by transforming the environment in Enugu aesthetically with trees and flowers.
Chime should initiate a campaign to massively plant flowers and trees along all the major roads in Enugu.
Usually, the Palm-like trees and the pine trees actually grow relatively quickly with almost no maintenance required. So they may be preferable in the short run. While the gmellina tree can be allowed to grow with time.

I have noticed that America, even south Africa or Abuja differ markedly from other Nigerian cities because they make conscious efforts to plant trees and flowers in these cities as part of the urban renewal work. Enugu has come of age to belong to such cities where planting trees and flowers to beautify the city is a deliberate state policy. Also, all roundabouts in the city should be covered by beautiful colorful flowers. Then Enugu will indeed be a true world class tourist city of the continent.
See how Durban, a town called Fort Myers which is even hotter than Enugu during the summer and Abuja are all beautified with deliberate trees planting along the roads. Even the median of the roads are lined with palm trees. It gives a city great ambiance.

In the first video, although Fort Myers is a poor city, and as i mentioned it's even hotter than Enugu in the summer time,so they are using their hot weather to attract tourists during the summer time. You can also see that the residential buildings on both sides of it's many major streets are bungalows which cannot even compete aesthetically with many Enugu residential homes, yet, they have made the town much finer and more conducive for tourism than Enugu because there is a deliberate government policy to use tropical palm-like trees to beautify all their major streets. We can do this, it isn't magic. Chime, please launch the beautification of the coal city. Only such a sound mind like yours can do it. Many Nigerian rulers are like baboons. Although they frequently travel abroad, they rarely appreciate anything good to implement back home.
