PoliticsRe: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by cjrane: 12:20pm On Aug 20, 2014
INNOisBACK: The Comments on the last 3 pages of this thread caught my attention but i couldnt reply, as my original handle is serving a ban. Anyways here's what i wish to clarify quickly!

1. About bikes in Anambra
Chino definitely over exaggerated when he said about 98% of the riders arent from the state, though a huge chunk of them are from the north(Kogi,Benue and Plateau) and neighbouring states, but most operators in the rural areas are from their individual communities.

But of all comments here, the most myopic and perharps stup.id was the one comparing Enugu with Kano!

Guys, seriously? undecided There's a big difference between being ''Patriotic'' and being ''Delusional'' and it's unfortunate that most posters here have decided to go with the later.

Take this from me, Kaduna alone perharps trumps all what Enugu has got, comparing it with Kano is tantmount to insulting that city.
Abagoro tried making you guys see the truth but some still chose to be Delusional

I don talk my own finish... Oya the insults can start!
grin
I have been to both Kano and Enugu and I know Kano is definitely bigger than Enugu in landmass. That is where the advantages end.Aside from roads put there by successive military juntas, it is more of comparing a huge slum to a proper city. Everything else is a hype!
Nigeria is a nation full of BIG lies and hypes told repeatedly in the hope that repeating it somehow makes it truthful. Officially, Nigeria's 5 biggest cities from biggest to smallest is Lagos,Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Kano and PH. Now we know ain't no way this order is true! So stop telling us crap about Nigeria and statistics. It is one area Nigeria can never tell the truth.

Well, the way APC has set terrorism in motion as a political tool, there will be No Nigeria the way we know it now after Goodluck, so perhaps you may very well remember him as the last Nigerian president.
PoliticsRe: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by cjrane:
Bishop42: Kano,The pride of North.

Oya show us your own kano
If Nigeria were Afghanistan, Kano would have been Kandahar! Bigger slum in a slum nation grin

It is true that since Independence billions of dollars have been cornered away from other parts of Nigeria and given to Kano! Yet, Kano has been a sick man principally because it had been governed by rogue governors from the time of Hassan Katsina to Barkin Zuwo toeven Head of state Sani Abacha to present Kwankwanso. All these so called rulers need to do is incite religious and tribal hatred and their people will be preoccupied with that while they rob them blind.

If Ibadan received the type of funds still being pumped into Kano for just 5 years, it would at least look like Accra. Mind you, Kano still cheats the rest of the country claiming it is the most populous state and Nigeria... And screams blue murder if anyone ever attempt to say Nigeria should have a proper credible census to know the true numbers.

Kano ooni baje ooooooo! grin

I just know when Chino comot for chain about his praising of Anambra, even passion will beg him to stop!
I only enjoy Chino in that mood when he is giving it to Boko Harams or the slippery oily group.
I don't want Chino to continue posting foul pictures in this thread 2 weeks after the last response from Passion, using his more than one thousand monikers! lol...
Either way they would have destroyed this beautiful thread about ENUGU before they realize their folly and the futility of engaging Chino in an ego war about Anambra.

Americans call it Boulevard while Brits call it 'Way'. It is simply a major intra-city road traversing a town.
So, Ozumba Mbadiwe Way in VI is a multi-lane inter-state highway?

Having posted the above,
I commend Peter Obi for the great things he did in healthcare and education to help Anambra make progress.
But on this primitive use of motorcycle as public taxi issue, he failed woefully for siding and succumbing to the threats of the okada operators over the overwhelming good of everyone in the state. I am yet to believe that states such as Niger and Ebonyi where okada proved a lot of livelihood will ban okada use to transport their citizens due to its deleterious effects before Anambra! Wonders shall indeed never end!
PoliticsRe: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by cjrane:
Nedu09: if there is noting only the security guard and re-educating people on keeping their environs clean, planting of flowers campaign. He is even mounting street lights along Porthacourt road and upper iweka .. But they only sweeps onitsha/Asaba Express Rd other Rds are hips of sands creating fog sight and dust.... He is new sha but a Good tchnocrat.... Peter is too Timid nd can't take action on whan people are crossing boundary encroaching to Govt roads and drainages.... But obiano came and brought those shanties down.... I pray they ban Okada and hawking in Osha and Awka causing much nuisance and an eyesore. Abokis took over okada sector. ride like mad people well they dnt value life for once.they should ban okada riders from playing the cities or ban them so as to give space for development. Thirdly Open drainage is another problem that has defaced the city plan making it vulnerable to refuse dumps... What would it cost to cover those death traps that is hazardous to our health (gutters)? pavenment them to serve as a pedestrians sidewalk. Chai! Must we be dragging road with motorist everyday? To be frank Nearly i slip inside one big & wide gutter 12ft deep and 15ft wide while dodging one reckless okada man on peoples path way ... Hawkers are running race with the luxurious and coastal buses... Just day before yesterday come see Accident. crushed road sides sellers on Friday. All the roads are now tuned to market place with competition...... To be continue.
Okada has sent a lot of people to their early graves in Onitsha, not to mention those that were crippled for life following head injuries after falling off okada.

In the last 10 years, most responsible state governors mandated the use of "Keke Napep" to transport their citizens except Anambra! Even northern states with much lower okada deaths and Akwa Ibom's Uyo, where use of motorcycle taxi (Okada) was introduced into Nigeria in the late 1980s, insisted that public transportation must be upgraded to at least Keke Napep to keep their citizens safe.

A few states with adequate funds stepped up public transportation by providing modern intra-city buses Eg. Enugu, and some are even going further to build intra-city rail networks to convey their citizens. Even states where it was believed that their economy would collapse if okada were banned, have thrived since the ban! In Ebonyi state, it was argued that there were no taxis and banning okada would collapse public transportation. Their visionary Governor concerned by the continuous loss of lives and maiming of their citizens banned okada in the interest of the public safety. Today, public transportation in Abakaliki has not collapsed, it is by Keke Napep and thriving strong!

Anambra under Peter Obi was regrettably the only state that has not banned okada for some flimsy reason in spite of the calamity it has visited on the public living in the state.
Before Obiano came, women's handbags and gold necklaces were constantly forcefully snatched around Upper Iweka by men on okada. Because they rode in these okada, it was easy to get away after these crimes.

One hopes Gov. Obiano will continue his transformation of the state by insisting that Anambra people should be transported in at the minimum "Keke Napep". This will show that he feels the cries of the families of all the victims who had been killed or maimed permanently by the continued and primitive use of motorcycles as a form of public transportation in Anambra state.

A far cry from the current hilarious senate reps, who are either sleeping during most important bills or are completely absent because they have to entertain their girlfriends in some Abuja hotel.

Igbo people are excited about her candidature. All the crooks afraid of her candidature are the same venomous traditional enemies of Igbo people. Even here in Nairaland. That tells you she is a great asset to represent her people.

mrking3: @OP! Waited for your response but seems you actually gave in!!! Well, as a matter of fact, I had to dig up some old pictures just to drive home my point!! Next time back your points with pics! We are now in photo age!! None of those schools beat ABSU with structures! Apart from UNN and probably FUTO! Couldn't find the Lecture Halls Pics ... And I didn't even include the new structures recently erected!! those pics are as far back as 2005 ...
No doubt, Abia State University is the best purpose built university in the Southeast that resembles a higher institution one finds in advanced countries such as USA. Unfortunately, subsequent Imo governors and now Abia governors have been unable to improve on the architectural masterpiece Chief Sam Onunaka Mbakwe left for posterity. If there were an Igbo awolowo in terms of investment in education, it is clearly Dee Sam Mabakwe.
ESUT would have been the next best university if they stuck to it's beautiful master plan. The syndrome of building cheap mushroom structures is gradually creeping in, distorting the original master plan.

UNN has lots of heavy old structures, but it is still a beautiful school. UNZIK, is good academically, but still needs to develop it's permanent site orderly rather than the current piecemeal approach, one building per year. In order to match it's impressive academic prowess with a befitting, wonderful university campus environment. Adopting the pattern used in Abia state university, where pine and palm trees were used to completely transform the campus to resemble what one finds abroad will do a lot to catapult UNIZIK to among st the world's most prestigious schools.
FUTO and Umudike are just there, but they are very good academically. EBSU ,ANSU and IMSU need to focus on creating a beautiful master plan for their permanent sites. They hold a lot of promise if they have visionary leaders focused on creating world class universities rather than more of the usual mushroom structures they like to call "temporary" scattered haphazardly across the university campus landscape.
At least Peter Obi gave a whopping N5 billion naira to ANSU for their permanent site at Igbariam, that should enable a visionary Vice Chancellor adequate funds to implement a beautiful master-plan for a world class institution. Hopefully, the ANSU V.C will pay attention to providing a truly conducive university environment by grassing open spaces and generously using trees and flowers all over the campus such as in ABSU shown below.

PoliticsRe: Boko Haram Abducts 100 Young Men In Borno by cjrane: 11:29pm On Aug 14, 2014
TomiwaDamola: The deadly Boko Haram sect may have forcefully conscripted 100 persons in Doron Baga, a village in Borno State.

It was gathered that about 100 persons were abducted during a Sunday attack on the village where over 10 persons were killed.

A source, who spoke to journalists in Maiduguri, said the insurgents attacked the Doron Baga on Sunday evening and took away some boys and young men.

It was gathered that 10 were killed by the insurgents.

Some of those that fled the area that were sighted in Maiduguri on Thursday, said they had to flee the area because of the constant attacks by the insurgents.

One of the displaced persons, Halima Alhaji Adamu, said six members of Hadejia community in Doron Baga were killed and about 100 young men were abducted on Sunday when the members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram launched an attack on their community displacing thousands who are now seeking refuge in some parts of Borno and Yobe states.

She lamented that she also lost her husband in the attack.

She claimed that the insurgents are believed to have abducted the young men in order to forcefully conscript them.

According to her, several other communities within Doron Baga and around have also lost many as well as others who were abducted by the insurgents.

She said, “The attack was on Sunday, in my family they killed six people, I don’t know about the other families but the Hadaijawa community which I belong also had 100 of the abducted by the insurgents.”

Speaking on why she and the rest of her family could not take advantage of the refugee camps established in Maiduguri, she said “we are going to our family members in Gashua.”

“I think it is better to go and live with family members than opting for camps. We lost everything we have worked for, and I don’t think the camp will be a better place for us. With family members, we can have the courage to face life again but the camp will continue to make us reflect on our predicament because there is no care as such no focus for one to engage himself or herself into doing something meaningful,” She added.

PoliticsRe: Northern Elders Should Appeal To Boko Haram To Release The Chibok Girls – by cjrane: 1:22pm On Aug 14, 2014
Why should they appeal for the release of the girls? When they are the ones that sent Boko boys to kidnap them? Besides the girls in question are mainly Christians, so can be ravished by the Moslem boys in BH according to Islamic teaching. Not to talk about the fact that they believe that somehow they can turn this evil plot of theirs and Gov. Shettima who lured the girls to come and take "exams" in a terrorist infested place into GEJ's fault.

God will punish all these evil people playing politics with other people's children life.

Unemadu: We wouldnt have had any international flights at all if not for Jonathan admin. Now there is every likelihood that the Niger bridge will be built. Give the guy a break cos he too is fighting Northern forces.

Our focus should be regional integration. We should foster a better partnership with other eastern states and create a powerful economic block.
Why must we always wait for FG or Biafra?

Is there any reason why the eastern region cannot be connected by rail?

Is there any reason why we cant join hands with akwa ibom for instance to develop the sea port or at least have an agreement in terms of transport infrastructure from there to SE states?
I completely concur with you.

Jonathan may have taken Igbo support for granted, but he is far better than the Islamic terrorists alternative patiently waiting for the opportunity to devour Ndigbo.

The difference between the murderous Islamists and GEJ is that they have a hate driven agenda against Ndigbo in particular and southern Nigeria in general, while GEJ may have made innocent human lapses in not completing projects. Remember that when $500 million dollars loan for building new international airports terminal was started, the House of Reps. under Tambuwal physically erased Enugu from the airports to get the new terminal buildings! It took the dogged fight of Stella Oduah to include Enugu terminal in her ministry's budget. So GEJ in spite of having good intentions must navigate through the obstacles thrown in his way by these wicked and hateful people we call our fellow countrymen.

I believe we should not only give GEJ 100% of our votes in the SE, we must also use our sizable population outside the SE to support him everywhere else.

I am particularly impressed by his hard-work to aesthetically transform the environment of Enugu into a world class city.
I pray he continues with planting flowers and trees along all city roads, including this one near Ogbete. Apart from Abuja, Enugu is the only Nigerian city that has the feel of a well planned city that you can find in North America. Norfolk, Virginia closely resembles Enugu with the rolling green hills around the city. Infact, the city's historic district look like that Ogui road in the picture!

1.)The challenge is for the state government to hold an Economic development summit inviting local Igbo business men as well as foreign investors. Then the state government will show them special incentive packages such as cheap and easy land in an industrial estate to set up their factory, access road to the estate and a few years of tax holidays if they create small industries especially along the new industrial layout already being developed along Enugu-PH railway line.

2.) Even greater incentives for companies that want to partner with the state government in setting up agro processing factories as more importantly the re-activation of Enugu coal, by creating small steel making factories. These factories will be viable if you consider that all the rods for buildings and bridge construction, spoons, cooking pots, frying pans in Nigeria all imported. These can easily be made in Enugu using Enugu coal.

3.) Partner with Enugu DISCO to attract foreign investors to build a coal fired power plant to supplement and boost the state's electricity supply.

These targets will not be too hard to attain for a disciplined hardworking governor.... and they will transform the way business is conducted in Enugu.[/size]

Nice pics, but keeping street lights on after 6.30 am is part of a colossal national waste that advanced countries have found ways to turn them off before 7.00am. To put it in context, the electricity being wasted in day light by the street lights can "freely' power a few welder's shop,a couple of business centers with heavy duty photocopying machines, barbing and hair dressing saloons, a few tomato and pap grinding machines in the market, a few bore holes and other small scale entrepreneurs, So, you can comprehend the waste.
In most states, street lights come on at 6.30 pm and turned off at 6.30 am. We should learn to do the same and save power.
