investnow2013: ABAKILIKI STREET STILL EXISTS IN AWKA.
The Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Mr Leo Nwuba has confirmed that contrary to the recent uproar in the media over the renaming of Abakaliki Street in Awka, the Awka Capital City had long designated another street to be named Abakaliki Street within the Capital City.
The new Abakaliki Street runs from Club Road, across Queen Suites to Enugu-Onitsha Expressway at the Parktonia Hotel end of the road. The street has clear signs identifying it as Abakaliki Street on both ends.
Mr Nwuba expressed surprise that there was no attempt to balance the story of the renaming of the street with the announcement that another street had been also renamed as Abakaliki Street.
Explaining that the renaming of the former Abakaliki Street as ‘Club Road’ was part of the on-going efforts to interpret the Awka City Master Plan, the Council Chairman revealed that the plan was being tweaked to fit things into their proper places.
Mr Nwuba expressed shock that anyone could have read a malicious meaning into the renaming of the street and quickly dismissed the speculation that it was an attempt to discriminate against anyone as false.
Throwing more light on the development, Mr James Eze, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Anambra regretted that the renaming of the street had been given a wrong interpretation by some people.
"Governor Obiano is the last man to put down a fellow human being let alone his own Igbo brothers. It is totally inconceivable that anyone could assume that the renaming of Abakaliki Street was done with an intention to spite anyone. The question to ask is, to what purpose, really?” queried Mr Eze.
According to him, "Governor Obiano has always been clear about what he wants to do about the new Awka Capital City. The former Abakaliki Street and the surrounding area have been designated as the entertainment hub of the city. That is where you have the largest concentration of entertainment hangouts. It is also a part of the city that never sleeps. We have a 24 hours life there. Government has provided adequate security, streetlights, road markings and everything that would encourage a 24 hours life in that axis. That district is gradually evolving into what might be called the Las Vegas of Nigeria especially on Friday nights,” Eze further explained.
He revealed that when there was an effort to rename the old Abakaliki Street as ‘Willie Obiano Avenue', the Governor had quickly turned it down because he wanted the streets within that entertainment circuit to bear names that reflect the offerings of the area.
"He is meticulous about what should be where. That is why he has mapped out an area that would be known as the Central Business District within the capital. Other areas are also being carved out and properly designated. So, there is really no such thing as an attempt to discriminate against anyone in Governor Obiano’s plan.
To underscore Governor Obiano's openness to all, Mr Eze explained that recently, the Governor announced that he had set aside the sum of N765m for commercial motorcyclists in the state to enable them replace their motorcycles with shuttle buses following the policy to restrict them from operating in Awka and Onitsha respectively.
"The beneficiaries of this loan are indigenes of the five states in the South East, Delta and Kogi State who are mostly involved in the motorcycle transport business in Anambra State. This kind of initiative cannot come from a governor who has any intention to discriminate against people,” Eze further explained.
He wondered why anyone would associate Governor Obiano with discrimination of any type, pointing out that "Governor Obiano has always maintained the posture of a modern Nigerian leader who treats every citizen with equal respect and dignity.”

Everybody who has looked at Nigeria's map know that the states with largest land mass to accommodate any type or size of ranch are the north West states NW.
I noticed the terror kingpin in Abuja cleverly removed Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Kebbi etc from his grazing fields. If the NW states own and benefit from these cattle business the most, why not build the ranches there and let other states go there to get the goods and distribute nationwide?
Why go to places where there is already severe land scarcity and try to annex the little land left for farming and try to build cow reserve areas there? Buhari is truly out of control. Nigerians should get ready to fight for their rights |

PaChukwudi44: The Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has denied the report that he had agreed to cede a portion of land to the Nigerian government for ranching.
Ortom said he did not at any point during his speech at the media and communications briefing on the National Livestock Transformation Plan which took place in Abuja yesterday state that he would cede any land to the federal government.
Terver Akase, Ortom’s Chief Press Secretary in statement on Wednesday said there was nowhere in the speech that Governor Ortom said Benue would give land for grazing reserves, the proposed FG ranches, cattle colonies or any of the related patterns of animal husbandry contrary to the provisions of the state’s Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law.
He maintained that the state had no landmass for cattle routes and open grazing as the available land mass is used for crop cultivation to maintain the food basket status.
He reiterated that laws were made out of desperation to stop the killings, adding that the killings started since 2011.
Commenting on the ECOWAS treaty, the Governor said, “The ECOWAS protocol has not been observed by any of the ECOWAS countries and basic documents and checks are not done on the herdsmen.
The land is no longer there. What existed in the 60s when cattle rearers come around with sticks not guns was that we related very well. There was no problem; there was no fighting.

Wage a guerrilla war and kill those soldiers sent to kill Biafrans (Faster but bloody) 2. Pursue a legal diplomatic channel for a REFERENDUM through the United Nations universal declaration of human rights articles on freedom of association.(Slower but less bloody) Palestinians have been seeking independence from Israel through a UN supervised referendum. it is still an ongoing process. I personally think a combination of methods 1 & 2 is the best way to go. |

kettykings: Truth be told , you cannot stampede the realisation of biafra like NK and ipob were trying to , Nigerian is dying a slow death, Nigeria is a terminally ill country , so why not allow the country to pass on peacefully , why be the catalyst to the demise of Niigeria, knowing fully well other parts of the country will abandon their brutal fate in the hands of herdsmen and boko haram to fight igbos if igbos declare biafra. my advice would have been to scale down on the street shows , then prepare or start preparing for the inveitable over run of the country by the herdsmen and their boko counter parts , induce the divestment of igbos from crisis likely prone areas and from abandoned property mentally induced regions , establish R and D centres that would wean igbos from their chronic addiction to cow meat.
It seems our generation quickly forgot the lesson of the last war where there was crisis in the middle belt (TIV crisis) and western region only for Nzeogwu and Ifeajuna to drag igbos into that mess with igbos still paying the wages for that misadventure till date while the west and middle belt reaped where they did not sow. I totally agree that Igbos should not lead but collaborate with others who are also oppressed by this system. I think some die hard Igbos will still remain in strange places in the north. But some wise ones already know they should leave now because after Buhari has lost the 2019 election, Almajiris will be induced to attack foreigners in northern states. But you know some of our people can NEVER see beyond their noses until death stares them in the face. Yes, i disagreed with putting an immediate date for a referendum without having built international support for it. You must present your case and counter Nigerian government arguments with FACTS not propaganda as IPOB usually likes to do. If you have a just cause and you keep mixing it with lies, then you get to a point that even your supporters begin to doubt your case too. I think the demand and agitation for a referendum should be pursued legally in international courtrooms in the UK, USA and other countries. Once the merits of a UN supervised Referendum on the Biafra question are determined to have been met based on Universal Human Rights Charter Declaration Of the UNITED NATIONS by several competent courts across the globe, then the governments of those countries are pressured to stop trade and arms shipment to a country like Nigeria committing all these secret heinous crimes against people. In time, the rotten pack of cards called Nigeria will collapse on it's own sins or forced to seek a structure that is fair to all and allows all to thrive peacefully. Black South Africans stopped apartheid not only because of ANC street protests in Soweto and other black townships, the threat of mandatory international sanctions against a regime that discriminates against sections of her own people was the major key. Pursuing a legal way to expose the daily atrocities in Nigeria to the citizens of the world and their governments will make them see the regime for what they truly are; -Murderers. But, you have to document the facts and present them in a court where they are cross-examined and upheld as facts. |

Kokolet11: NK was never the only one making decisions for ipbo, mind you the leadership of ipbo is not base in nigeria incase you dont know.when NK had meeting with south east govs and ohaneze, after the meeting he told them that he will meet with the leadership of ipob before any decisions can be reach and when he went down to ipob leaders, them turn down the damand of south east leaders.yes ipbo was build around NK because people knows that he will never betray them.opc you talked about please who is the leader of opc?opc before is no more the opc you know before. Let me first say i support IPOB and all its aspirations. The problem with MOST IPOB people is that once some slight difference in opinion for the best strategy occurs, they immediately attack you and say you never wanted Biafra and would prefer Nigeria. You guys must learn how to listen to yourselves and other and weigh every strategy carefully. The strategy to boycott Anambra election was flawed from the start. Then NK turned it into him being from East Central state from where Anambra was carved. Thus exactly playing into the trap of those trying to portray him as Abia guy trying to ruin Anambra. Once he went there, no matter what he said, he could never win from that angle. However, in reality, the decision to boycott a gubernatorial election was silly. The election to boycott is the Presidential election and you must get elections not to hold in about 12 -13 states. That is the critical number that will prevent any winner from emerging. The issue is that IPOB still think Biafra could be achieved with what happens in the SE as in the 1960s. NO!, Biafra will be achieved by what happens OUTSIDE the Southeast. Other oppressed Nigerians in Benue, Southern Kaduna, Southern minorities, some parts of Yorubaland must come together and decide that what is happening in Nigeria must STOP. Ojukwu himself told us that we should not seek Biafra using his strategy. I still believe a measure of armed insurgency is required, but it must be planned to operate nationwide and meticulously avoid civilian casualties. What i have suggested isn't easy, but a disciplined group can easily pull it off with minimal casualties. |

Stop lying! I was always in support of a peaceful street march well video taped by many people with cell phones etc so that the excesses of the security forces can be captured on tape for future trials and justice. The videos should be immediately posted on social media and deleted from your phone, so that even if the army gets you, they cannot see the video from your phone. I also supported speaking with international press and emphasizing that IPOB was not calling for war but for Referendum. My ONLY disagreement with NK was that we should boycott Anambra elections which i thought was counter productive and would not change anything. Instead of boycotting gubernatorial election, IPOB must work with OPC and Afenifere, Benue Peoples Movement and of course Niger Delta partners such as Avengers and other freedom fighters to ask the respective southern and middle belt states to boycott 2019 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. NK, must decentralize IPOB to make sure he does not make ALL the decisions. Else if he was eliminated, IPOB would be dead. Well, the problem with IPOB is that nobody knows anything except them. So they centered everything around Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Experience they say is the best teacher. In the future we will learn to stop having only one leader that makes all the decisions. Little operational decisions can be made by others and only the big decisions or major change in tactics can be made by the leader. Nelson Mandela was put in jail, but ANC did not die because he was not the one making all the operational decisions. |

IPOB was led by a charismatic man, but a very very very poor strategist. How didn't Nnamdi Kanu know that if he puts the entire decision making and command and control of IPOB on himself, that the target of his enemies will be to eliminate him in order to decapitate IPOB? I mentioned this then that it was dangerous that only NK was speaking and facilitating IPOB marches. If NK should be a supreme leader without any army, he MUST leave Nigeria else his days are numbered. Anyhow, IPOB is not dead. What is happening is that re-organization of the command and control is taking place without NK. If he had been there, it would have been less chaotic. Unless Nigeria is at the minimum restructured, Nigeria is living on borrowed time and will inevitably break up violently if they imagine they will perpetually subject Igbos to discrimination and the country will just continue indefinitely. Again, it is up to people ruling Nigeria to decide to make the country accommodating to all or to continue grand standing that nothing will happen. Once it starts this time, it cannot be stopped by the last tactics of doing Python dance and killing unarmed people. |

The most reason for building collapse in Nigeria is cement quality and steel rods used. Most Nigerian buidlings don't go beyond 8 floors which can comfortably with built with gravel.
Funny that all the 4-6 storey buildings built in the 1970s in Onitsha with gravel are still there and strong. Yet the modern ones built with granite are collapsing? WHY?? Cement and steel rods only?

mktinsight: Onitsha was relatively well planned until it became an unregulated market town where anybody and everybody could do anything.
So if you want Onitsha to change you need far better organized business to locate there and not traders selling goods under staircases or in shacks. For that to.happen you need government enforcing order and not encouraging the primitive capitalism of a street and wheelbarrow economy.
That's the difference between an India and a China and is why the Chinese economy is 8 times the size of India. The Chinese think big and do not settle for cities where people can live anyhow like India. Their streets do not let cattle to sleep on them or tricycles to roam because they can't plan a proper transport system.
That is also why the Europeans are far more creative and innovative than the rest of the world. Just visit any European town, their shopping streets are orderly and attractive and is not an everyone affair. So you see people engaged in craft not retailing. Look at the cafés, restaurants, shops that they have. Those structures are infused with the skills of architects, interior designers, artists, equipment manufacturers, suppliers not loads of hastily built shacks with no toilet or plumbing at the side of the road announcing "food is ready".
The ANSG needs to get serious with our cities. They are not extensions of villages. People need to operate at a higher level of organization and productivity. Onitsha needs is to attract industry, upgrade it's wholesale markets and clean up the CBD so supporting services can come in.
Specifically the state needs to build more industrial areas in Onitsha equipped with power, roads and water. The city should have 1,000 factories. Its wholesale markets need to be incorporated to attract capital to upgrade with better design, conveniences, infrastructure for modern wholesale retail not ugly unpainted, unroofed blocks of concrete called shops. Then the government needs to enforce building laws, sanitation fees and fines, upgrade commercial streets with pavements, parking laws, better transport systems.
Onitsha is supposed to be a premier city in Nigeria not a theater of primitivity. I totally agree with you. Removal of illegal structures and sustaining the effort is a huge start to reclaiming Onitsha from the distortion. They should look at base map of Onitsha Metropolis ie (Awada, Obosi,Nkpor, Onitsha, Omagba, Ogidi, Ogbunike, Nkwelle ezunaka, Nsugbe, Oba etc) and designate major roads that should be expanded so that people can get around easily. They need to build a small flyover to connect New Market road and Oraifite street in Awada. This will help the massive population in Awada to access the main city in Onitsha. |

Willie Obiano should not forget his promise to dualize 33 road (Nkisi road) from Onitsha to Umuleri airport city and then extend it to Aguleri'
Dualization of this road will open up the northern fringes of Onitsha the way Onitsha -Owerri road dualization opened up the southern fringes. Such that people could live in Oba and comfortably work in Ointsha. Thus, decongesting the town.
Dualization of the Nkisi (33) road will enable people to live in Umuleri or Aguleri and work in Onitsha without the commuting time being too much. That road is critical to the future of the state and growth of Onitsha as a megacity. |

My Good Readers,
Gov Willie Obiano through the current Commissioner for Transport, Rail & Water, Hon. Uchenna Okafor (WIPER) has demonstrated a committed sincere approach towards sanitizing our society especially in Urban Areas. The ongoing Operation Stop Street Trading just like normal government policies, has attracted criticisms from all corners. The Commissioner personally has assured Anambrarians whose goods are affected to bear with the State Government. With time we shall understand better and why the primary interest of this government is to save lives.
NOW JUST IMAGINE THIS....
Yesterday at Aroma Junction this happened. A bike man who was driving from Ifite Awka got to the bridge and without looking properly, continued his journey as if he was heading to the MACDONS. Unknowingly to him, a trailer was coming and then, in the effort to save the life of the Okada rider, it happened.
NOW:
My concern wasn't what happened to the Okada driver. What everyone around were shouting and exclaiming were, had it been all those other Okada, Banana, Mango, Water Melon, Roasted Corn etc Sellers were there, only God knows how many that could have lost their lives just yesterday.
AGAIN,
In the bid to help this society, His Excellency Gov. Willie Obiano has barricaded the Federal Highway from the Aroma up to Kwata Bridge and yet, our people had continued to permeate those barricades for one reasons or the other.
Just few weeks ago, at the same dangerous Unizik junction, a Trailer loaded with Soft Drinks hit and shattered the barricades at exactly that same spot that people use legs to cross over and kept asking myself had it been.
Over more than two other cases of such had happened at the Kwata axis just before the flyover.
Let us ThankGod for yesterday and always bear in mind that our Governor will do all its takes to safeguard the lives he is sworn to protect.

How much has Buhari paid and how much did Jonathan pay for this project so far?
If Julius Berger is funding the project to put toll gate and force the region to pay back for the project. DID BUHARI also use the same formular for federal roads and bridges in the north?
Why is the cost of the project now bigger than what GEJ approved after Buhari stopped the project for 3 years to "review project cost"
Why did the project mysteriously start again just before the 2019 elections? Will it be stopped for another review of "project cost " after gullible igbo votes have been garnered through the sham? To restart it in 2023 to garner more gullible oh no votes?

Some federal or national roads take you to Lagos etc. But state roads make sure communities in the state are connected. That is what the regional rail network will do. Besides, you cannot dictate the direction and flow of trains on the national network, but you can do so on the regional train network. Besides the national tracks are often for propaganda and political deceit. They may never be built as it is on paper. It will be based on political patronage .
