I would prefer that Onwa be appointed minister of works so that he can ensure that this Onitsha-Enugu road is completed and the 2nd Niger Bridge too. He can do a yeoman job in that portfolio. I also love his carriage and attire (His kangol cap, shorts and staff). Onwa i ga-ana etiri umu Naijeria.
It will be a miracle for Buhari to appoint an Igbo person the minister of works. He won't even agree to give minister of health talk more of works.
I am expecting minister of national planing or minister for productivity or minister of culture and tourism . Those types of useless ministries grin

Railway is a very capital intensive project, I don't see investors going that line with the present level of our economy. Moreover, Railway service is under the exclusive list of federal government.
@ bolded,
Another of those terrible lies told in Nigeria. The same types of lies that said state governments could not build universities until Jim nwobodo and Sam mbakwe exposed that lie. That state governments couldn't build bridges, until Fashola, Peter obi and host of others built odor bridge etc, now we all know that was a lie too. That state governments could not afford capital intensive ariports, until Katsina, Uyo, Asaba airports were ALL built by state governments. That state governments could not afford to construct dual carriage ways etc etc.

Use india for example, it costs less to build a single gauge railway line than build a brand new dual carriage way. Again, if the roads were cheaper than railway, the colonial authorities would have built more roads than railways. but wherever they went, the built railways rather than roads. I challenge you to prove that the cost of Enugu Onitsha expressway is cheaper than a railway line from Enugu to Onitsha.

The 2 states can invite investors to do that and it will not cost them anything just the right of way.
You have asked the most intelligent question so far. That is why i blew it up to make sure everyone saw the question.

Yes, We must build those railways
The world bank or African development bank can bank these projects that will easily pay for itself.

the railway line will not be expensive as they will not be too many large rivers to cross building it in Igboland.

Besides ONLY 3 railway lines are required to link the entire SE Major cities to the Enugu PH railway line.
1. Onitsha - Enugu line
2. Abakaliki - Enugu line
3. Owerri to Okigwe line.

Once these lines are completed, goods and agricultural products can be hauled cheaply via rail to where they are needed.

When roads in a heavy rainforest belt such as Southeast Nigeria is built without gutters for the days of expected heavy rainfall, it tells you the dishonesty of the man that built it.
Why they spend millions of naira to build roads, then refuse to protect them with gutters and allow them to completely breakdown to the point of using another millions of naira to rebuild them is the height of Nigeria's wasteful culture.

You need small steel reinforcement for concrete roads.
Although this is a great start, but with steel reinforcement it would have lasted 50 years instead of 5 years without steel reinforcement.

But concrete roads are the way to go in waterlogged environment and most southern states with rainforest belt of heavy rainfall.

Kudos to Abia government, It is the right thing to do to solve the perennial bad roads in Aba due to soggy water laden soil.

PoliticsRe: Alimosho LGA Receives The Highest Monthly Allocation from FG. But... by cjrane: 12:42am On Oct 09, 2015
State governments are the ONLY accountable tier of government in Nigeria.
This is because they are easily recognized by the people in the state that demand action.

The Federal government is too removed from the people and too powerful to be held accountable for anything.
The local government are too obscure for any one to even know the name of the LGA chairman. So they just squander whatever they are given.

if you observe carefully, 90% of the developments in nigeria over the last 10 years has really come from the state governments. From Jigawa to Kano to Lagos to Akwa Ibom to Enugu, it is all a state governments affair. yet, they recieve only 25% of the national federation allocation leaving the FG and the LGAs with a whopping 75%.
Suffice to say 75% of our federation account allocation is simply wasted or squandered.
PoliticsRe: OPC Leader Directs Yoruba To Confront Fulani Herdsmen by cjrane: 11:58pm On Oct 08, 2015
MayorofLagos:
Founder of the Oodua Peoples Congress, Frederick Fasehun, has described the destruction of Chief Olu Falae’s farm in Akure by cattle belonging to Fulani herdsmen as an embarrassment to the Yoruba race, while also calling on the people of Yorubaland to defend their territories.

The farm of Falae, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was destroyed barely two weeks after the herdsmen kidnapped him and detained him in the bush until a ransom was paid, releasing after four days.

Fasehun, who spoke at the Yoruba Summit in Ibadan on Thursday, said Yoruba’s patience with the Fulani herdsmen, who he accused of killing and raping their hosts, had been exhausted.

He therefore called for a radical approach to curb the deadly activities of the herdsmen.

Fasehun added, “We can no longer continue to preach patience when our guests are disrespecting our territorial integrity. As it is, the territorial integrity of the Yoruba race is at risk.  This is the time for the Yoruba people, especially the youth, to stand up and defend their nation.

“We do not have to depend on the Fulani herdsmen cattle when we have goats and chicken here. If it is confrontation, we are prepared to confront these people. Enough is enough.

“These killing, kidnapping and raping by these people on our land must stop. When violence confronts violence, we will achieve peace. We have been preaching peace for 55 years but peace has not been sustained.”

While saying there was still room for dialogue, Fasehun said the visitors must learn to live with their hosts in Yorubaland.

He stated, “I believe in dialogue but it must have an end. In Oyo State during Lam Adesina era, the present President of the country, Muhammadu Buhari, came to Ibadan to complain to the governor that his people, the Fulani herdsmen, were being confronted by the indigenous farmers.

“Now that Buhari is the President, the Fulanis had the courage to traverse the entire land space from the North to kidnap Falae in a corner of Nigeria. How much patience do you want 50 million Yoruba people to have again? Nigeria belongs to all of us. The invasion must stop. We should inform those who are violating the integrity of our people to stop.”

At the event, which was attended by prominent Yoruba elders, leader of the OPC, Gani Adams, blamed the invasion of the Fulani herdsmen on disunity in Yoruba land.

He said, “We lost Yoruba unity because we disregard the strength of our language. We only react, we are never prepared. The issue is beyond Falae; unless we address it quickly. We must put politics aside and we must restructure Nigeria on the basis of true federalism.”

Ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae

The recent abduction of one of the foremost Yoruba leaders and ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, by suspected Fulani herdsmen took a turn for the worse on Thursday as prominent leaders threatened secession from the entity called Nigeria.

Their grouse ranges from the abduction of Falae and the wanton destruction of his farmland to the need for a serious restructuring of Nigeria to reflect true federalism.

“If we do not see any step in this direction within a reasonable time, the Yoruba may reconsider their place in a union that cannot protect them and would not allow them to protect themselves and use all legitimate and peaceful means to attain self-determination,” part of the communiqué issued at the end of the meetings said.

PoliticsRe: President Buhari: The Only Nigerian With Integrity! by cjrane: 10:55pm On Oct 05, 2015
dearpreye:
Nigeria is actually a weird nation. It's a comedy nation. It's a nation filed with some of the most hypocritical and insincere people. Little wonder we have rulers who are equally hypocritical and insincere. Every nation deserves its leaders.

Nigeria defies all known logic and modes of critical thought. It confuses even the best of thinkers. It causes so much pain to those who are development oriented.

By integrity we mean keeping true to ones words. We can all recall back in 2011, when GMB, while weeping profusely mad wiping his tears, declared that was his last attempt at the Presidency. Fast forward to 2015, the story has changed and the same man contested and, this time, won the Presidency; so much for his vaunted integrity. On the three previous occasions he sang his anti corruption crusade, he failed woefully. He had to work and walk with men of very questionable character to win the presidential elections. PMB is a politician, and like most politicians, decided to renege on his earlier promise o not contesting again. But politicians are politicians; only the masses are deceived!

Former President OBJ was both president and minister for petroleum resources, in contravention to section 138 of the 1999 Constitution. Of course, we had a weak national assembly back then that could pass off as mere rubber stamp. He was allowed to occupy two offices.

Today, the same thing has played out as PMB will also be doubling as minister for petroleum resources. If OBJ did it and PMB is doing it, then whence cometh the change? I felt sad as it appears only President Buhari has the integrity, willpower and courage to function adequately as the minister for petroleum in a nation over 150 million people. What does that say about us as a people?

There are millions of Nigerians with more towering courage and integrity than PMB. There are millions of Nigerians who can perfectly handle the rile of the minister for petroleum resources, but alas! ours is a very unique nation.

In fact there are three sets of people in the world: Whites, Blacks and Nigerians!
Meanwhile his wife Aisha was indicted by the FBI in a multi- million dollars scandal with congress man Jefferson of Louisiana.

If you know that a girl of that age could never have made millions if dollars as an ordinary citizen, you would realize she got such huge sums of money to bribe an American congress man from her husband, the then former Head of State Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari

Don't mind the childish boy seeking attention by saying crazy things. When has cattle rearing become as complicated as making cars etc?

it's just that before now, our people didn't care about agriculture business and our state governments were too daft too to realize the abominable blunder they were committing by ignoring agriculture. Thank God today the terrible mindset is changing.

Look at Zimbabwe farmers in kwara state. They set up modern cattle ranches, poultries and farms for maize, cassava and rice. Today they are supplying most meat and milk consumed in Abuja and smiling to the bank while doing it. Who says this cannot be replicated in Uli or Umunze or Okigwe or Arochukwu or Oba nsukka, not by Zimbabweans but by Igbo businessmen ?
Buying and selling isn't a reliable business. i want all to remember that. Agriculture will retain your wealth for ever.
