On a lighter note, a guy on NL said and I quote..."GEJ is my hero, very soon, he will be missed" and I succinctly replied in a subtle but odoriferous innuendo..."Yes, he will be missed,... he will be missed at home when we Jail his Fat Butt in KiriKiri for 300years".

When our Air Force was watching them flee and laughing instead of destroying the fleeing terrorist army, I knew they would regroup and begin hitting sporadically at different locations. We had the opportunity to destroy their force, but we were enjoying watching them flee instead of destroying the fleeing force.

PoliticsRe: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by cjrane: 2:31pm On May 14, 2015
centje:
I don't think you're as excited as I am. But I have some fears...can we still have someone as passionate as Chime is, concerning the centenary city and real estate in general...initially people were of the opinion that the boom in Enugu real estate is due to southerners running from crisis in the north, but from what is happening in Enugu now I think it has gone beyond Returnees from North. You may ask what's the importance of this to the state economy. Well, Population is an important factor in Economy, especially an organised population. The large population of Nigeria is a big Economic market that has attracted a lot of foreign investments. So, it's promising, if real estate is beginning to boom in Enugu.

My other concern is our finishing which is usually poor. For instance, the Polo Mall is yet to be graced with lawns and palms as designed in the render.
You will agree with me that a bungalow with good design and detailed finishing can be more appealing than a duplex. Why do we find our bars appealing even tho' the canopies were made of thatched roofing, it's simply because they are well designed with good finishing. Same with most of our roads, they are built with the same poor finishing, lack of attention to details, which usually doesn't cost much yet of great importance to creating beautiful streets and durability of the roads. since we can't afford under ground drainage, at least the open gutters can be covered, the side of the road adjoining houses can be paved or lawned, or at worst the excavated earth levelled. It mustn't be only government work, state government can force landlords, legally, to keep their surrounding good. A lot countries have strong laws guiding how developers build, I see no reason why such cannot be replicated in Nigeria. At the initial period of Chime's administration, there was a massive campaign for planting of lawn, flowers around houses but such good move was not sustained or given legal backing.

Eko Atlantic in Lagos was designed with huge zone for skyscrapers but Enugu centenary city has a simple layout, a theme that the state economy can handle. If the finishing is done like we find in the render then the city will definitely be world class with tourist attractions.
Bro, you are RIGHT! Finishing is EVERYTHING.

I have been to many places in the world and discovered that Nigeria would have been a very beautiful place if we finished every project with attention to detail. Our roads are unmarked, with no traffic lights or street lights. In spite of the road being smooth, it still looks and feels substandard. I like your example of thatched bar and a beautiful bungalow. If we can cultivate a culture of planting trees and flowers along our roads and around our houses, part of the ugliness we see in Nigeria will disappear.

Sadly the advocates of a pleasant and beautiful environment in Igboland are so very few in number compared to those that want all the trees cut down and making our environment so dusty. I hope the Centenary city will be completed soon to set the pace on how residential areas should look as we develop into the future. Already, I have seen pictures of nicely gated estates resembling the centenary city coming up in neighboring states. Which tells you the Centenary city will create a powerful modern awareness of city planning in Nigeria when it is completed.

Every state Govt in nigeria has completed one road or the other, roads are easy even TA orji built and completed some roads. The Author said any major project and even you his supporter did not mention any major project completed by chime except a few roads he built. was he elected to only build a handful of roads in eight years?
Truth be told....
Chime governed Enugu extremely well managing to use the less than N90 billion naira (One of the state poorest budgets in Nigeria) to transform the state. As a coal city boy, i know what it was in 2007 and what it is now. Not to say i didn't expect Enugu to improve since 2007, the rate of improvement was phenomenal to put it mildly.
Now, i have been one of Chime's strongest critics for not completing the iconic International conference center. But to say he did nothing is actually a hilarious statement from people who imagine we are all blind and suffer from severe memory loss.

Anambra State Govt in Partnership With Innoson Group

"Our objective here today is to expand the vision of one man so that it becomes the vision of a people.
"We have resolved to avoid the mistakes of the past when we lacked the foresight to harness the gifts and talents of today for the progress and prosperity of tomorrow.
"The partnership we are cementing today is an important step in exploiting INDUSTRIALIZATION, which is one of the Four Pillars of my administration’s economic blueprint.
"The other three are Agriculture, Trade & Commerce and Oil & Gas".
These were words of Governor Willie Obiano when the trio of Anambra State Government, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company (IVM) and the Federal Polytechnic Oko launched the Bridge Project in which the students and teachers of the technical colleges around the state began learning the intricacies of designing automobile bodies and other elements of automobile engineering.
In the partnership which will last for 10 years, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company offers its auto production line for the benefit of the study, while their crop of auto engineers, designers and technicians devote time in teaching and mentoring the engineering students.
Also under the partnership, lecturers from the Federal Polytechnic, Oko will support the Innoson group with their own expertise and theoretical applications.

The presence of these lecturers will heighten the academic and conceptual content of the programme and ensure a balanced and wholesome experience.
In the first phase of the Bridge Project, 493 students drawn from the 11 technical colleges in Anambra state are participating in the pilot programme.
If successful then Anambra may well be on its way to become the first in the country to own a completely indigenous automobile manufacturing and assembly plant.
You will recall that the world bank under the State Education Programme Investment Project (SEPIP) committed the sum of $2.1m to the project. In another developement, the state government has signed a $150m agreement with UDIPPCO for the construction of an 80 megawatts of electricity to feed the growing industrial city of Nnewi. cool
Anambra state should take that step of mandating every vehicle procured by the state government must be sourced from INNOSON.

Teaching the future engineers is just as important as sustaining the company to survive into the future by massive patronage.

In America or Germany, every car used by their government agencies are made in those countries.
Even Honda, Nissan and Toyota with huge assembly plants in USA has not swayed USA to use their vehicles for any government agency at Federal, State or LGA level. That is how a responsible government support it's own car manufacturing sector. Calling Oko Poly or Anambra university to come and watch the wonders of vehicle manufacturing at INNOSON without patronizing their products is counter intuitive.

The type of procurement in the first two pictures below should never happen again. We should use the IVM saloon cars if we really support INNOSON the way we swear that we do.

One thing Anambra must ban is the siting of commercial motor parks along the two major federal highways (Enugu-Onitsha & the Onitsha - Owerri expressway). Motor parks just spring up anyhow on these two roads defeating any attempt to decongest them and make traffic free flowing at all times.

PoliticsRe: Things Nigeria Has Done For South Africa! by cjrane: 11:43pm On Apr 29, 2015
Krucifax:
In light of recent xenophobic attacks by South Africans on other African nationals including Nigeria, it pays to revisit what Nigeria as a country has actually done for South Africa. A lot of people have said South Africans are ungrateful for what we have done for them in the past. Others have asked what have we actually done for them in the past? As incredulous as the question is, it is actually valid. As most people who ask the questions are people who either don't have the knowledge of history or are too young to know any of it. Below is a small list of the Things Nigeria has done for South Africa.

1. Nigeria boycotted Commonwealth Games to show solidarity for South Africa

2.The National Committee Against Apartheid (NACAP) founded by Nigeria to fight apartheid and fund South Africa in 1960.Through NACAP hundreds of South African residents were able to attend school free.

3.Countless solidarity songs written by Nigeria musicians to support south Africa

4.Nigeria played a vital role in establishing the United Nations Special Committee Against Apartheid (UNSCAA). Nigeria also chaired the committee for longer than any country in the world at great expense

5.Southern African Relief Fund (SARF), created by Nigeria and deducted 2% of salaries from Nigerian civil service workers to support South Africa's apartheid fight .

6.Issued Nigerian passports to South African freedom fighters whose South African passports were seized by their apartheid government so they could travel the world to seek support

7.Nigeria offered scholarships hundreds to South African students.

8.Nigerian ensured that British Petroleum assets were nationalised as Britain (who incidentally travel to SA visa free)supported apartheid.

9. Nigeria offered military training to ANC militancy wing.

10. At the height of the liberation movement in the 1970s, Nigeria alone provided $5-million annual subvention to the ANC and the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC)

11. Nigeria welcomed South African exiles Thabo Mbeki (former South African president from 1999 to 2008). He had spent 7 years in Nigeria, from 1977 to 1984, before he left to the ANC headquarters in Lusaka, Zambia .

12.Nigeria lost approximately $41 billion in potential oil sales as it refused to sell oil to the South African apartheid government.

13.From 1960 to 1995, Nigeria has alone spent over $61 billion to support the end of apartheid, more than any other country in the world, according to the South African Institute of International Affairs

14.In 1963, to evade arrest by the apartheid regime and their British backers,Nelson Mandela came to Nigeria, where he was hidden by Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, a former Nigerian aviation minister, at the instruction of President Nnamdi Azikiwe for 6 months.

You omitted thousands of South Africans given free secondary education in our unity schools and universities. Many of them were also given free military training in Kaduna. Such regrettable waste of resources.
