Begoniaa the topic of soft life is really more complex than what it’s become simplified into. Believe it or not, it’s tied to race.

Originally, it’s a hashtag black women came up with to share aesthetics of themselves living a stress free struggle free life (not necessarily rich lifestyle). Because historically, they have not been given the opportunity to not always be the strong black woman. Raising kids alone while waiting for the man who’s been racially profiled and locked up. Holding the forte down, making do with little. You get the picture.


I don’t know which one of them big creators initially came up with the idea but it took off really well with black women sharing their experiences about how people tend to get uncomfortable when they are seen living what could be termed a luxury life, that used to be seen as something reserved for white women.

So now, instead of showing the side of black women that they weren’t originally permitted to have, it’s become a competition of whose life is better. I can understand why that would raise eyebrows sometimes.

As far as who should get to have the soft life according to stages of life, that twitter lady sounds like she’s making sense until you unpack it. Some people will never get there unfortunately and some will get there early on. Going by her tweet, a person in their 30-40 would be understandably bitter if an adolescent or early twenties adult starts to live a luxury life before them. I mean they’ve been through the trenches, put in their decade and should start seeing the results but here’s a 23 year old who hasn’t really experienced any hardship living a good life.

Well we all know it doesn’t work like that unfortunately.
