When I lived there my insurance payment was about 400 a month. That’s with employer subsidizing. If I paid by myself, it will be a lot more. And that was not the best healthcare option. Just for one person at the time.

I wonder what new solutions Dr’s can provide, being that the health care salaries are responsible for the cost of healthcare. Seems most people are doing without insurance now to avoid the costs. Except the Dr’s are willing to take a pay cut.
Maybe one day those republicans will stop calling it liberal handout and vote for universal healthcare.

About 70% of those who lived a big life that I knew are now in prison when they were finally exposed. cheesy. America is not for those who don’t have patience and are not content. The fact is most of them move because they want to live a lifestyle they see the ones who pose as very rich are living. Those ones have to spend what they did not work for to live like that.
well that’s terrible. I don’t feel sorry for them though

The purpose of this thread was to compare cost of living. Nigeria vs US. The truth is, there are some salaries you earn in Nigeria that you should not resign your job to travel to US.
again that’s true. But I’m on the side of those saying leaving a 24m/year job is worth it. Just my opinion though based on what I’ve seen. If the pay was more, I’d have said maybe not. Our currency keeps going down.

Most people taking that leap do not have papers. They do not understand the process and what it takes. Most are in their mid 40’s when they make this transition.
for the ones doing it without papers knowing they are going to be hiding and doing minimum wage jobs, it’s just foolishness. And makes no sense. For the older ones in their 40s, if they have a skill and a job offer in America, I can support them to leave. I mean they are technically expatriates. Lol

Without realizing America is age discriminatory when it comes to ageism/jobs. Though they like to deny it. Then you end up not being able to get a job in your career. After hustling about 5yrs or more to get paper. By the time they are ready to enter the workforce, they are about 50yrs.
I will say though. For healthcare we don’t discriminate. At Any age as long as you’re physically able, you’re welcome. We need more people. Begging folks everyday to come work with extra pay incentives etc. Yet people are running away. So age is not a barrier in this field.

For other fields though I don’t know.

Don’t mind that guy. Lol. Some people had to sell their house to pay for their healthcare or terminal illness. They think America is like UK that has public access to healthcare. Your healthcare in America is as good as what you can afford. If you lose your job, you lose your healthcare. Even while employed, you pay and your employer subsidizes.
Yes healthcare in America is another beast to contend with. Topic for another day I guess.

Some doctors are doing a membership program now where you can bypass insurance and pay a monthly membership fee where you can get all your healthcare needs for an affordable fee. They also work with labs and imaging centers to boycott insurance. It’s kinda new but it’s catching on from what I’ve seen. Because both the doctors and their patients are tired of the insurance companies.

In my experience, Nigerians abroad are well respected members of the society. The majority are not into illegal activities. The ones that go into illegal activities will do so regardless of where they find themselves. And of course the media will use them for scapegoats thereby creating a narrative that many of us are into fraudulent activities. It’s all part of the racist propaganda.

And you’re right you have to earn your way. I never said otherwise.
baby124:
A lot of our people here have ended up in prison because they see a luxury life on Instagram and they do not know how much work goes into that. They do not realize that 80% of Americans do not live like that. In short time, these people get arrested for fraud.

Most people take time to find their way and even then, the cost of living is also high. When they see they cannot flex, rolling in luxury cars and luxury homes, they start to get desperate. I have seen this a lot. The face is in America and all these countries to earn that pay they will make you work for it. You earn your stripes and you pass through the ropes.

A couple get married and have kids. Ok, they earn together over 100k. But you forget childcare will soon come which in some areas good childcare is over 2k a month per child.
Yes childcare expenses are a huge deal. I’ve been realistic about it many many times on here. You know sometimes when you speak about too many figures it appears to some people like you are showing off.

But at some point I paid more 1200/month for child care. I’ve been realistic about that. That phase does come and go. It’s not forever.
That’s why I always say people who have family members that they can rely on have struck gold. Our people always find a way. Some use church groups where the moms and grandmas baby sit each other’s kids.

Can’t discourage anyone from coming because child care is expensive. People come here and even have 5 kids. I don’t know how they do it but they do.
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Nigerian Abandons N24 Million A Year Job, Relocates To U.K by cococandy(f):
In my personal experience living in both low and high paying states, I saved more being in a high paying state with the supposedly higher cost of living. The things they look at to judge how they should pay folks are things like cost of houses, milk and gas. That’s what determines cost of living estimates.

But you end up spending almost same in departmental stores like Costco, Walmart etc where you buy your daily needs. It doesn’t even out to be the same in the end because you may pay $1000-$2000/month more in rent but you’re making $4-5k more. Which one is better then?

Anyway I feel like I made my point which is that

1) most immigrants are not doing 2-3 jobs scraping to survive like they love to believe on NL.

2) that my initial post wasn’t suspicious. It’s a real pay.

3) that someone making the amount of money stated in the OP can leave if they want and it won’t be a financial mistake because they can make up for it.

I really don’t want to argue the other points. If they even make $40-$50 per hour, it’s still very very very decent pay and is worth leaving the country for. Especially if they are a working couple and they can both make $35-$40/hr each. That’s $145k-$166k/yr of household income. It’s nothing to be broke about.

That being said there are other high paying jobs that are not in healthcare.
I think we can agree that a couple making $35/hr each with both of them working are making a good salary. I hope you agree

baby124:
Most Americans don’t live in big cities and expensive states where the rents and cost of living is high. So they get paid less. When you factor in cost of living, the pay averages out. The fact is, nurses are paid that much and only of recent because in the past you will have to work a lot to earn that. It’s the demand that is driving those rates and the unions. Most regular people in lower risk jobs who are just as highly if not more specialized do not earn that much. What someone earns in a city will be higher that what one earns in a regular state. Even the minimum wage is higher in cities because you will pay a lot out of your pocket to survive.

When nurses salaries are taken on a national basis and averaged out, the rate is still with 40-50. They take into consideration as well those in regular states earning 50k but their houses go for 250-300k. At the end of the day, you save the same amount from your salary after living expenses.
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Nigerian Abandons N24 Million A Year Job, Relocates To U.K by cococandy(f):
baby124:
So people who do not work in healthcare also earn such rates or? The average salary for Americans is 50k. So everyone should work in nursing? These places where you earn this much, what is the cost of living? What state is this? You can earn this and how much will you spend on rent and buying a house? One of those jobs I looked up, average house price is over 700k
* I didn’t say everyone should do it. You doubted the post I made saying it was suspicious that’s why I went to all that trouble to prove I wasn’t making it up. That’s all I was getting at. I’m not saying this is applicable to everyone. But it’s more common to earn closer to that figure than to not.

* Mind you this average includes minimum wage earners who are usually high schoolers or people who are temporarily finding their footing, so it skews the average. Many established people with families and settled in a career of their choosing earn more than $50k. And that’s two parents working which brings their wages over 6 figures easily.

* Averages can somehow not paint a true picture. Mind you we are also talking about Nigerians here. Not the general American public. Most Nigerians hustle and get themselves into good positions because they understand they are here for a reason. The beginning of my argument in this thread is that it’s uncommon for us immigrants to be doing 2-3 minimum wage jobs and scraping by like the usual NL story goes. I’m not really speaking for all Americans. And I’m definitely not speaking for white people who are included in these averages.

Interestingly I’ve temporarily been in a state where they pay low because “cost of living is low”. In my experience It’s all a lie they tell to underpay workers hence they forbid unions that can fight for workers rights. Somehow even with their “lower cost of living” I still came out financially ahead in the so called more expensive states.

Personally my organization does 8 hour days but I can do 12 hours because they’ll pay me extra 50% for every hour after the 8th hour. That works for me because I take 4 days off each week sometimes 5 days off if I’m feeling lazy grin and still come ahead with plenty plenty of time for my family.

The first posting is for a full time position.

New grads start at $90k/year now because they increased pay due to inflation. More experienced employees can make up to $172k/year. Full time. No overtime or bonuses included yet

Other postings are for various counties for comparison. I feel the need to do this because you said my first post was suspicious and then said “if that’s truly the rate”. I wouldn’t make stuff like this up when it’s easily verifiable

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Nigerian Abandons N24 Million A Year Job, Relocates To U.K by cococandy(f): 2:37am On Jul 21, 2022
In fact many of the nurses I know hate overtime unless there’s an extra bonus on top of the standard extra 50% that the law requires. They work their 3 days complain about it and run away to come back another time. cheesy

The one below is a base hourly rate. All healthcare workers that are not management are usually hourly based. It’s only the management that are salary based.

This one worked 74 hours in a pay period. That’s two weeks. Therefore only 37 hours in a week. That’s not even full time in some fields . So definitely not working any overtime. No bonuses, no holiday pay nothing. Grossing 5920/ pay period brings this one’s income to $153k/yr. All these are before taxes. therefore, they take home less than than that but it’s still a far cry from what the information on NL states.

I don’t know if people that lie about their pay do it so that others won’t know what they know therefore won’t join them and compete with them. I’ll be bringing more numbers.

My girls are now wondering what I’m doing with their pay information grin.
baby124:
Regular doctors do make from 150k and above. These are non specialized doctors. Not the cardiologists and all those. I don’t have the details of what you are posting here so I can’t argue it. But the average pay of the average American is a lot lower than that. In healthcare the difference is overtime. When it averages out it’s not that different from a regular days job.

If the pay you post is really that rate, it will be a base salary and there would not be an hourly rate. Most unionized people are protected because their skills really should command a lot less pay in a regular capitalist society.

No true executive or director which is the rate of that pay can belong to a union. Even in state jobs that are the most unionized.

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Nigerian Abandons N24 Million A Year Job, Relocates To U.K by cococandy(f):
baby124:
Average nurses salary rate is about 40-50 dollars. This rate is based on the annual salary earned. A 14% jump from a year ago definitely signifies a lot of overtime. But that’s just how I read it. Plus you have to be a really specialized nurse with specialized training to make that 80. Plus years of experience. I have a relative who is a doctor of nursing.
Again it depends on your state. As a new grad with no experience , $40+ was my starting pay years ago.

I’ve heard of nurses in the south say they pay them $25-30/ hour. I feel bad for them. But Republican states are notorious for that
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Nigerian Abandons N24 Million A Year Job, Relocates To U.K by cococandy(f): 2:18am On Jul 21, 2022
Yes you’re right. Doctors are not the average folks. The only reason I even mentioned them is because you said that $149k/yr looks like Dr pay. Doctors make way more. That was my point.

Here’s another nurse’s job offer. She’s also my colleague. In fact I’ll be posting numbers henceforth since words don’t seem to be enough.

At $94/hr working only 36 hours a week 3 days week, she’s making $175k/year. No overtime. In fact her organization is unionized therefore every shift she works that’s is over 8 hours she makes extra 50% per hour on the hour.

I’m waiting for another friend to text me her pay stub.

Let’s put a stop to misinformation
baby124:
Before a doctor can make 500k/yr it’s not beans at all. A cardiologist takes at least 4yrs of bachelors, 6yrs of medical school and specialization if not more. 6-8yrs of very hard schooling and residency. That’s about 12yrs-14yrs if not more. During residency they make about 50k actually.

Then you have to prove your merit and also work long long hrs before you make that money. I know that system like the back of my hands. America does not give you anything easily. Why do you think so called successful people keep being caught for fraud? cheesy?

Go and ask spouses of doctors how many times they see them in America. Lmao. If America is paying you that money you will almost lose all your blood.

Hmm. This is suspicious because I know you can’t make this rate in 7yrs except you are a doctor. For nurses to earn this there is a lot of overtime involved. A lot. Annual raises in pay are definitely not 14% more like 2% if any and that is with a very good review. Except you get a significant promotion. This looks like overtime work where the person is working a lot. That for regular hrs their salary will be half that pay.
I also know a doctor friend here. He’s Yoruba and he’s a cardiologist. Makes close to $500k/year. So $149k/ year is not a typical doctor’s salary here. They make more

I think the hourly it said on there was $80/hr.
Most nurses usually do 3X12 = 36 hours per week which makes it around 2880/wk

Multiply by 52 weeks/ year this makes it $149k/year.

So I think that’s accurate. If she did over time it would be way more than that I guess.

Which is another reason why I believe folks don’t bother to disprove the NL beliefs because they’ll be called liars anyway.

Also I didn’t state that this person was a nurse.

Also your state of residence matters.

My disagreement with you is that it doesn’t really take that long. But yes everyone to their own.
If someone has a well paying job that is not a result of their high skills and qualifications, they should definitely keep it because the loophole they used to get that job may not be available in America and they might end up being worse off if they have no skills here.

But if they have those skills and education, no one can take it from them. then they won’t need 7-10 years to assimilate.

I just asked one of my friends who has been here for 7 years to show me her pay. Would you have advised this person to stay back in naija because it took her 7 years to get to this level? Mind you she’s not considered a highly paid individual in her field. Many Nigerians are also her bosses and seniors so they definitely make more than her. This was last year and she’s due to another bump this year.

I hope you guys stop believing all these “they do menial jobs and 2-3 jobs and don’t have $1000 in their bank account” that people always say on NL. It’s not representative of reality.

Even if this person paid for their education, they can recoup that in short while. So..?

SeaTrade:
I was also talking about legal immigration.

Then after that ,job hunting takes another time too before you settle.

These minor details you keep omitting makes all the difference.
And I'm not insinuating anything, just discussing.
Very correct. That’s true.

But I’m not omitting any details. That’s why my initial posts says traveling the right way. If he’s traveling legally meaning he had a job offer before he left, or admission to higher education that offers path to employment after graduation or green card from a family benefactor etc. those are all traveling the right way. Those people are recognized by the govt and won’t have to scrape and struggle to make it.

Traveling the wrong way is

1) coming for visit and overstaying your visa.
2) Coming for education and refuse to leave after you graduate.
It seems like that all we talk about when we talk about immigration. Because people are leaving the weird and not straight forward way.
Then yes you will suffer and do minimum wage jobs to get by.

Again remember I and 1stgenamerican are talking about legal immigrants. Not wayo corner corner immigration.

Mind you I’m speaking from an American perspective. I don’t know anything about UK. I do realize they are very different. So if I’m wrong it’s only about UK. Someone from the UK can correct me.

Very fresh and beautiful at 47.
Her freshness de make me reason like say my wife used football age. How can she be 31, but look older than Rita Dominic that's is 47.

Happy birthday forever Young
