You sir, are a very highly intelligent fellow.

I doff my hat to you!
No. What about vehicle owners who suddenly stopped using their vehicles due to price increase of petrol. That analysis is only good for cooking a drop in consumption figure by incompetent analyst.

Approximate population/relative market size of Nigeria vs neighboring countries:

Benin Republic: 13m
Niger Republic: 27m
Chad: 16m
Cameroon: 27m
Total: 83m

Nigeria: 211m
Combined total (Nigeria + Neighbours): 294m
Nigeria: 72%
Neighbours: 28%
Shikena! grin
Thank you for revealing the data with which the drop was cooked in order to exonerate NNPCL and their local partners in crime. You guys forgot about hundreds of of thousands of car and gen owners who no longer can afford N550/Litre.
You guys also forgot the smuggling was most active around the Nigerian border in those countries and not everywhere.

Even with domestic consumption falling....

What happened to the so called protest in neighboring countries? Abi na scam?
Or is it still being smuggled to Niger Republic and other neighboring countries even at the current price?

Thank you. With the way they cried about the subsidy only benefitting few rich thieves ,I was expecting about 60% - 75% drop in consumption. That 28% is too low and largely due car owners priced out of the fuel abandoning their cars.
Govt just needed money to keep stealing and ease debt repayment burden. No wonder they talked about salary increase for themselves teasingly. A corrupt man won't fight corruption. Never.

You have resumed for work this morning joyfully peddling your economic ignorance.to the gullible who mistake you for an economics professor in the London School of Economics.

Thunder fire that school that taught you economics grin grin grin

By the way, you dodged the question I asked in my last mention to you. Hmmmm

Stay cool my friend.
The average Nigerian will rather die than admit their error, even on a faceless forum. So you remain stubborn here but like my posts and share them secretly because you actually concur. Hypocrite!

Import is less desirable for a strong economy. There is something called balance of trade. It is about being productive enough to cancel out inflow of goods(outflow of money value) with out flow of good(inflow of money value). What you are advocating for is lost of local jobs to more competitive foreigners. Since we have destroyed all out competitive edges like subsidy, cheap power, security and more for interregional politics, commonsense dictates some level of protectionism be adopted to protect local production and by extension jobs, a key aspect of any vibrant or hopeful economy.
Maybe you do not realize import connotes loss in money value (weakening of the Naira) as well as job loss among other things. That's why we cannot turn a blind eye to issues like bandits extorting productive farmers and driving up local production cost. There are agberos too in the south. All feeding fat but not contributing meaningfully to the system thereby killing local production further.
I wonder what took grandstar so long in applauding this post with a share and a like. I insist you suck at economics and Emefiele was a better economist that 100 Soludo combined.

You again!

An economist who supports the petrol subsidy! Pat Utomi, Charles Soludo and Lamido, people you should look up to will be shaking their head in grief.

They are busy searching for the fake uni that awarded you your certificate.
That's your problem. The inability to think differently from professionals with vested interests who are out to mislead. Did you see the headline about petrol consumption dropping a meagre 28% after subsidy removal? It shows the leakages and fraud were negligible because that 28% drop in consumption sounds like the volume lost to lack of patronage associated with high cost. So many private cars are parked at home and that's where I think almost all of the 28% came from but folks like you allowed Pat Utomi Soludo and Rewane dictate to you the level of fraud. These are friends of refinery owners and oil marketers looking to make a kill from subsidy removal and they successfully bullied your type into singing their tune, albeit subconsciously. Good morning!

I am sure Lamido, Soludo and Utomi told you import is desirable in areas you do not have competitive advantage in. America didnt have such advantage in cooking oil and so embraced protectionism in that area creating dangerous oils that clog arteries to this day but your giant follower mentality has made you embrace import of deadly alternatives because they fed you with bullshit of import is good and creates jobs.
You suck at economics that's why you lean on failed economists like Soludo and Lamido. Going far in Nigeria is largely a matter of connection and politics of appeasement to vested interest.

Bro, the reason why he sacked those employees was that two-three employees where doing the jobs of a single employee which makes it stupid to be paying two-three employees for a job that a single employee can perform.
that makes him stupid at best. Those extra and idle employees knew enough of the working of Twitter to recreate it elsewhere and don't blame another businessman who regrouped them and recreated an improved Twitter with so calles idle hands.
H can repeat it in Tesla also so electric vehicle prices can crash for.Nigerians.to own them.

Elon Musk made 2 big mistakes:

1. Be stupid a enough to buy Twitter for $44b. It's not worth more than $11b. Forget all these mad internet company valuations.

2. The arrogant and unintelligent sacking of Twitter staff. Yes, Twitter was bloated but the way forward was to find the staff worth keeping and layoff professionally the excess.

One now wonders whether those who were not laid off are loyal and it seems some of those who were sacked now want blood.

Because you're the acclaimed richest man in the world does not make you all knowing. The arrogant and bestiial way he laid off staff will definitely haunt the company for sometime, if not forever.
You made sense in this topic. I advise you stick to such topics and leave economics alone as you clearly suck at it.

If this Hailey is behind the recent tax reforms, then whoever he or she may be is a disaster. Taxing the poor without a look at their challenges is a sign of poor judgement from that Hailey and his team.
Bandits are ravaging farms and it will be stupid to tax such farmers further when their old taxes paying current army salaries are not yielding fruits. It is a bit like blaming the massesand followers for the failings of the leaders.

Our problem.generally is societal pressure of wanting to maintain a dignified job. That has made supply of teachers exceed demand and brought prices down. There is demand for food right now but teaching is so safe compared to farming people prefer to apply than farm. Technically there are jobs in agriculture but few applicants(entrepreneurs) and so teachers get offered peanuts.

Where will those N200k-husband-or-nothing crew then run to?
That's why Paul speaking to the church at Ephesus says they should stop stealing and produce basic necessities of one another instead that they may have something to give out. Ephesians 4:28.

“Corruption among public functionaries in Nigeria is endemic. Though the president is strongly opposed to it, we expect him to confront the menace head-on, setting an example of transparency and zero tolerance of self-regard.
This sounds a lot like my complains over the last 18 months o.
Corruption is like MTN, it is there "everywhere you go" and should have been fixed when it affected the petrol subsidy instead of condemning the subsidy.
Today NNPCL as the sole importers of petrol are probably too ashamed to disclose the volume of petrol being consumed daily because it will reveal the extent of fraud that was going on prior to subsidy removal.

The reason o faulted the collapse of forex windows without any attempt to heavily tax some goods. Hair extension and wine are now competing for forex with drugs. It shouldn't be like that.
Tax luxuries to reduce demand for dollar and chances of local manufacturers emerging. This will reduce forex pressure on dollar demand and strengthen Naira before essential commodity importers access forex.
