Politics › Re: My Administration Will Re-Establish Nigeria's Status As Giant Of Africa - Tinubu by CodeTemplar: 8:48pm On Jul 01, 2023
Ogamysamo:
must we always expect negativity? why was nigeria regarded as giant of africa?
Nobody ever regard your Nigeria as a giant. What do you then call Egypt and south Africa? Tunisia, Algeria?

Giant in budget but midget in per capita indices. Divide your budget by the head it is meant to cater for then do same for those countries and see who the giant and midget of Africa are.

We can no longer shy away from the reality, all the new initiatives of the new government to be implemented would cause some sort of hardship but its going to be temporary before things can be stabilized. It's inevitable, we better be prepared.

If we don't want to be continue borrowing unnecessary, then we need to generate more income internally and also government should cut their unnecessary jamborees.

Even though bitter leaf might taste bitter initially but in the end, na Adun( joy) dey end am.
taxation, the main source of internal money generation, is suppose to be tied to consumption at the point of production and earning for people who render services. What this govt is doing is that they are by-passing production and taxing the people via import duties on basic imports like diesel, petrol and food. It means whether you are employed or not, you pay tax as you long as you move around, eat, communicate or receive healthcare to survive in your state of unemployment. I am not surprised actually. A party that can borrow from dead people forcibly should have no problem taxing the unemployed and children or evwn students. Responsible govts know production is the backbone of economies and is what attends to or plugs the gap lack or poverty creates, so they leave money alone first, even though they printed and circulated it, ramp up production, then try to tax some of the money back into govt coffer at the point of production and earning.
That's why any responsible govt will not watch bandits levy farmers. Agbero tax workers via transporters they extort or militants steal resources.

Ambiguous promise with dangerous interpretation and consequence is what this ancestral young man is talking. Giant in what sense? Production? Corruption? Banditry, terrorism, insecurity or cultism?

You still don't get it. Maybe you need to follow the money.

The loans were over inflated in the first place. Nigeria took loan monies meant for first class railways only to use it to build the stuff that is not only archaic but costs far less than the loan amount obtained.

So where did the difference go you may ask. Well, that was compensation for Rotimi Amaechi's unwavering support of Buhari.

When you follow the money, you won't be shocked at these things. The biggest beneficiaries are the political office holders during that time in office. The worst losers are the Nigerian people, they are the ones that will pay back these loans one way or the other through more and more imposed hardship in the form of multiple tax schemes.

This is not a doomsday prophecy, we are seeing it unfold before our very own eyes even though some choose to consistently live in denial.
Oga F, you spoke well.
Ameachi the irredeemably corrupt minister under Buhari practically did an Aregbesola in that transport ministry except unlike the Osun man, he looted it for himself in the now. Huge loans to be repaid with the sweat and labour of citizens in years ahead is what ameachi left us with.

See ehn..i have said it before...a government that cannot manage subsidy verification, discharge of products to the right places cannot ensure proper quality control. I knew we will still come this point where marketers will tamper with quality to be able to make profit...this govt like the last 2 instead of working hard to ensure subsidy regime is rid of corruption will instead say subsidy is evil, when we all know all nations of the world subsidize one thing or another and the best thing to subsidize is energy. In our case almost all businesses rely on pms, the smal medium enterprises that will really lift people out of poverty rely on pms ...shoemakers. barbers, bankers, tailors, food vendors, talk of it.
The say to rid subsidy corruption they want to eliminate subsidy, why not eliminate infrastructural projects to stop the corruption in that space too
you spoke well but media agents of APC will skin you alive for this even though they know the truth. The right thing to do is to subsidize basic inputs of production and energy is common to so many small scale businesses. With no alternative on ground, our lean-brained leaders are only after the shortest cut to mobilize lootable funds instead of making the people productive then taxing them at the point of exchange of goods and services to fund the system.

Are you talking about the hardship you went through during the 8 years of Buhari cos nothing as such here.

Make una stop using whatever you might be going through in life to be judging others.
This is a popular scenario. Nigerians are being squeezed unjustly by tinubu's policy. He should chase bandits and kidnappers from forest and allow farmers farm in peace to alleviate hunger. Let jobless people be free to go and engage their time and be productive without fear of being levied, killed, raped or kidnapped for ransom.

Production is low currently and that's undeniably the root of lack. Lack of things leads to increase in price.

His policies are insensitive to plight of people and don't take to account reality of a weak system that's in place. Corruption and wastage abound yet he has removed practically the most impacting subsidies Nigerians enjoyed hitherto.

Their earning is so meagre it was not stated. This is why govt was wrong to take huge loans to build those railways. In this economy where Dangote,BUA and co make billions, govt is telling us NNPCL and co can only make losses.

So, let's says I have N7m and use it to purchase $10,000.

I use it to purchase 7m worth of fake hair and I make 40% profit - that's 2.8m within 2 months.

I now repeat the cycle 6 times and make 16.8m in total profit within a year.

I deposit some of this money in a bank which can be lent out, I pay import duty (I forgot to include that), I pay income tax, I purchase land, I start building a house, I hire laborers, pay school fees, I purchase things from retailers which sustains their business and you don't consider fake hair imports as contributing to the economy?

Who will the bank prefer lending money to? The importer who can

You keep refusing to listen: imports aren't bad for you. What is wrong is if you don't exports.

Selling fx to the individual or company ready to pay the highest price for it, even if it is to import ice blocks should obtain it.

The best economists in the world are believers in free trade. They support import liberalization. Paul Krugman, an economist won the Nobel Prize based of his work and support of free trade.
The beliefs of top economists is not the reality of top economies. I saw a video of where a Ghanaian professor was talking about the unfairness of US banning imports of vegetable oil while researching inferior ones and eventually approved their inferior vegetable oil above import of palm oil.
You see a good example what an economist believes and what an advanced nation does.
The US China trade war is another example.

You example of importing hair to create wealth is very weak and flawed. By importing anything, you lost the jobs involved in creating that thing. You import milk powder and immediately los all jobs associated with rearing cows, milking them and processing liguid into powder. That is the whole point. Import creates jobs and earns money but does less of both compared to production. That's why govt here needs to strive to replicate the production conditions obtainable in nations we import from.
If a rice farmer in Nigeria produces a tonne of rice paddy at certain price and his Indonesian counterpart does same at same price. The Nigeria farmer is facing extra cost of:
Higher cost of processing it into parboiled rice due to power cost.
Levies paid out to task forces and bandits.
That's why govt must strive to replicate the best condition of business environment for local produces.

ASUU may have a point or two but are still a huge bottleneck to good education.
The NUC is too stiff in my opinion and dictating 70% of courses is too high.
