InvertedHammer: / There was a 1 million March in support of Abacha to transition from a military dictator to a civilian President. It is not surprising that there are always millions of Nigerians who are willing tools in perpetuation of evil. If Buhari dies today, they will deny him exactly the way all supporters denied Abacha after his demise.
How did Mugabe of Zimbabwe or Biya of Cameroun remain in power for centuries? We must understand that there exists many people who are guided by nothing in life and will fall for anything.
/ How did Adolf Hitler get Germans to support his evil imaginations? Some people are sophisticated and unconscious zombies. |

Uselessman: 1 trillion naira is chicken chance to Oyedepo. Our school fees is not been used for any thing. Everything built, bought even paying of salary is done by the church. So Oyedepo can make covenant university absolutely free for the next 100years He is already using his "1 triillion naira" to subsidize the school. Ask yourself when covenant was charging around N170-N250k and UI was getting as high as N400k per student, what was keeping covenant in motion then? Covenant even had better facilities. people dont know that uni education is expensive. |

theoldpretender: You may, but let's be frank, even if Oyedepo sold all he had and dumped it on the university, (and to be honest, I expect him to do so!)...it would only adequately fund the university....for a few years.
It's like what I hear when Nigerians say we should...rightly...cut the salaries of all the rich politicans in the National Assembly and use it to fund unviersity. We spend N1 trillion on the National Assembly. That's a lot. But according to the ASUU-FG agreement of 2009...ALL our federal universities needed N1.5 trillion in one year for adequate funding...in extra funding.
One more thing...I wonder why people complain about Oyedepo. Afe Babalola and others have non-church affiliated universites that charge even higher. And all of them have one thing in common...zero access to govt fund.
At least....YOU went to covenant. You had access to good hostel and class room facilites as a result of high fees. I went to a public university . For N2000 (later N18000 per annum)...I got poor hostels (six per room in my first year), poor cafeteria facilities, poor labs, and poor libraries. And zero computers. hmmm....most public uni are financial drainage channel. Govt gives them more than enough but they loot it. |

HigherEd: The relevance of a university is not in how many poor people's kids it educated. If it were, Ahmadu Bello Uni would be relevant than Stanford. The relevance is in solving the many problems facing humanity. You may not be able to attend John Hopkins University but in many ways John Hopkins has benefited you and many other poor people across the globe. They do this when they create vaccines, innovate new ways to do surgery etc.
Have you ever wondered why scholarships are giving to indigent brilliant kids in many ivy leagues and not poor dull kids. It is not because they pity them but that those poor brilliant kids should come and improve the mandate of the universities by contributing to research.
As it is here in Nigeria, the public universities have more problems than the society it is supposed to help because govt and the people live under the illusion of free higher education. We have sacrificed the relevance and functionality of universities in the name of access. If the church unis focus on giving access they would also face the problem the public universities are challenged with in greater proportion and would never have the opportunity to make a mark like their counterparts outside the shores of naija.
Don't ask a university if it is free, ask if it is relevant. Expensive is a price we should be willing to pay to have functional universities. I have a brilliant idea about this cheap/free education thing, govt should order a made in China university that will be cheap and affordable. It can be built with wood or plastics to make it cheaper. lectures will be on whatsapp group and only exam/registration/certificate award need be physical. That should cater for the people who appear proud of their poverty. Govt can even insure their poverty for the duration of their stay in the poverty university such that, if any one in that school is found eating rice with meat he/she should be expelled. Only rice without or okpokroko fish is allowed. |

Bifrost: I can only speak for my school, which happens to be a public university. That said, not all of us are cut out for the irrelevant PrivateVsPublic university debate.
I have gone to school (a public university), and I have graduated.
If you think you're better (academically) because you attended a private (or a public university or even a foreign university), come out let us settle it with a standardised test. Then I'll prove to you, that a UNIVERSITY matters ONLY A LITTLE to the graduates which they churn out. All what you wrote here would have been best directed at the public uni grads who are always on the offensive. They are the ones always out to belittle the efforts of private schools forgetting that some of these private schools have many brilliant students. As for your challenge to a standardized test, I am not interested because the best test of life is the impromptu ones life throws at us all and I expect the public uni army to handle the one facing them as regards their self-destroyed reputation as a standard test from life. You guys are reaping what you sowed in years past this forum and don't get too emotional about what we already know. The fact that you sorted or cheated through school may make you more prepared for the jungle that is Nigeria and Africa but not the global stage. From time to time I see bad news of fraternity initiation gone wrong in some notable foreign school but you hardly see a white-man boasting about surviving such conditions. They put such rubbish where it belongs. You guys shouldn't be contradicting yourselves for boasting and ego sake. |

Sad but true observation by OP. It is a case not knowing how to seek Gods face. Imagine a christian in challenge that is unfortunate enough to fall into the hands of a fake pastor or prophet, that christian will likely resort to babalawo when he/she gets exhausted by the pastor/prophet. Lack of quality service to God or regard for sin is also a culprit in the list of things frustrating people to shrines. rentAcock: Wow, you are dumber than I thought. No one said universities should change their curriculum to accommodate the changing times, although that isn't a bad suggestion. Since you lack comprehension, I will repeat what I said and hope that it makes sense to you this time around. Rather than sending their kids to universities in hopes of getting a white collar job, they are better off learning a trade or skill. If this post still doesn't make sense to you, head over to www.naijalingo.com for a free English to pidgin English translation. So if the parents have a different motive for sending their wards to universities other than the one they are established for, is it the parent/wards that is at faulty or the schools you initially attacked? Answer that question directly and let's see who is dumber and a dunce here. |
Education › Re: Top 3 Universities In Nigeria By THE 2019: Key Statistics, Breakdown Performance by CodeTemplar: 4:30pm On Jan 16, 2019 |
rentAcock: You are another highly educated dunce. The sole reason why parents send their children to university is to increase their prospects of getting a white collar job after graduation, however there are far more qualified graduates than jobs. So rather than wasting your time and money getting a university degree, you at better off learning a trade because no matter what, your acquired skills will always be in demand. So in your opinion, universities around the country should start adjusting their curriculum from the academic one they were established to teach towards one that helps the majority of students get white collar jobs? You are the mega-dunce here. You want the system to give you your own selfish idea of education against that which they were established for and even have the audacity to say it publicly? For your info, there are places for that and no one forces you into those schools. You can start the first of such university if it pains you so much. |

While I am not here to support APC or PDP, let me first state that governance isn't squarely about taking from the general populace and then giving directly to the 'poor' as a way of bridging the poverty gap.
It is about creating a fair, level playing field for all who wants to work their way up the wealth ladder.
to illustrate further, Imagine a small factory owner who has taken a loan of about N10m at 22% interest rate and is suddenly faced with all the challenges Nigeria's business climate is known for like bad infrastructure, epileptic power, and extortions. Such a business owner will probably look up to the government for succor in form of better governance that can solve the above mentioned challenges but with the way the government has prioritized the sharing of money to alleged poor folks and even given them something higher to look forward to by promising beneficiaries of the scheme more funds after elections, the beneficiaries will most likely want to protect their own interest by voting in those who they expect something unmerited from. This leaves a potential job creator with hostile business climate and lazy folks a door to eat from the national cake.
This is indeed vote buying as Transparency International rightly observed.
A fairer approach will be to encourage people to work harder while providing basic amenities like power, road and good government institutions. The promise of more money in for of 'loan' once the current 'loan' is repaid after the elections even makes it clearer that it is a vote buying scheme. It is only a matter of seconds before any average thinking Nigerian figure out they can always borrow for their repayment to get a higher 'loan' which can then be used to pay of the real loan. |
