@surugede et al I feel strongly that whatever I write here would only mean something to you if your mind is not prejudiced. If only the people who say all sort of things about Islaam will quit paying attention to (studying) muslims - many of who know little or nothing about Islaam themselves - and pay half that attention to Islaam. . . . but prejudice is a menace to intelligent reasoning. Now, Does the Quran instruct INDISCRIMINATE killing of christians and infidels? NO. It will help for non-muslims and many ignorant muslims to understand that the Quran is a book of Guidance - a Constitution - for directing ALL the affairs of Islaam and muslims, just like the Nigerian constitution directs the affairs of Nigeria and Nigerians. Now this Constitution, the Quran, prohibits the taking of life and warns strongly about it. For the sake of social order and social justice however, it allows the taking of life in certain instances: One of these instances is in a circumstance of war. The verse of the Quran being quoted to allege that muslims are commanded to kill all infidels is one of the sections (verses) that give the RULES OF ENGAGEMENT in war. It talks about a situation when muslims go into a treaty (ceasefire) with the opposing army. It tells muslims to abide by the treaty. But if the opposing army breaches the agreement, then the muslims are not obliged to keep their part, they should also go all out and fight and kill the double dealing enemy force. In fact in verse 6 of that chapter (only 2 verses away from the one being quoted), Allah (swt) says if any one the pagans ask you for asylum, grant him protection, talk to him, and escort him to where he feels secure. Why do the people that quote the verse the hold up as evidence for killing (verse 4) gloss over or pretend not to see verse 6. How can we be commanded to kill ALL infidels and the commanded to grant protection and escort to them at the same time. So pls get it straight, verse 4 is only refering to combatant enemy force that were in breach of a treaty of peace. Verse 6 is the more general one that command giving protection and escort to ANY pagan (non-muslim) that might be in any insecure circumstance at any time whatsoever. Now, does it not make sense that the Creator should give Guidance to the people He created in ALL areas and ALL affairs of their lives? Non-muslims need to understand that The Quran being a book of Guidance to Muslims legislates and touches ALL areas of the muslim life. From areas of business to education & training to social interaction to family to warfare - ALL. . . . and Allah (swt) knows best. |
It is also important to realize that the importance of salaat (establishing the prayer and going to the masjid) is such that it is the first of our deeds that will be examined before our Lord. If a person is found deficient in his salaat, there would be little or no need to look at other stuffs he comes with If a person is found adequate in his salaat, then he has 'scaled the highest hurdle'. may Allah (swt) overlook my error. And Allah (swt) knows best. |
ifyalways:hi ify, I just thought since Lagosboy has gone 'awol' , I might try to provide some insight to the question you asked.Yes it is true that we all have two angels detailed to record our good deeds and bad deeds. but this in any way does not contradict any injunction of the Quran. The good deeds referred to here include our going to the masjid (mosque) to pray and all other good stuffs that we do. Failing to establish the prayer is indeed a bad deed. In fact, the best good deed is the act of establishing prayers at its valid time in the mosque. The two record keepers (angels) are described as 'Kiraaman Kaatibeen', (most noble scribes). They don't miss a tiny detail. The scribe for good deeds is eager to write good for us and even at the stage of contemplation, or the mere thought of doing good, he records a good deed for us already! (this is what Allah (swt) has commanded him). When and if we actually do the deed, he records multiple! This is Allah's Mercy. If we contemplate a bad deed but we refrain from doing it, he goes on to record a good deed for us! The scribe for our bad deeds however is not so eager to write our bad deeds. If we do a bad deed, he does not write and leaves ample opportunity for us to realize we have done bad so we can regret and seek forgiveness of our Lord, Allah (swt). If you follow it up with another bad deed without regretting and seeking forgiveness for the previous one, then he records that previous bad deed (he records only one). This is Allah's (swt) Mercy on his servants. I hope I've been able to put this issue in the proper perspective for you, Ify, and other readers interested. And Allah (swt) knows best. |
best: any time you see something you don't like about your spouse or she/he does something you don't like, think and dwell on something good she/he had done in the past that you really like or something about him/her that you like very much. |
hmmmm! I just feel a need to add my perspective to this issue. maybe, just maybe, a couple of people might appreciate it. Even if only one person does appreciate it, the purpose would have been served. Firstly let me say categorically that I consider the killings in Jos horrific. If there is any evidence I need that the perpetrators of the dastardly acts in Jos do not stand for Islaam, the kiling of women and children provided it. Even in a state of all out war, Islaam prohibits the killing of women, children, non-combatants (whether men or women), animals and destruction of plant life. I've always had the feeling that every time crisis breaks out in the north, it's painted as religious when most times, it's tribal, ethnic and most often political. The media however, because they are either too imcompetent to do some investigative work or they are compromised by the politicians who are the architects of this crisis, they paint it with the easy and ready brush of religion - the same way the Nigerian Police find it easy to quickly call every assassination in the country armed robbery incidents. Every time there is a problem north of the Niger, all I hear is blood-thirsty Islamic Jihadist, but the times there had been problems in the south, we didn't attach it to a particuar religion, we were content to call it ethnic. Hausa-Fulanis are maybe mostly muslim, but their actions many times DO NOT represent Islaam. The actions many times tell of tribes of people who are short on temperament and quick to anger. Many here do not or pretend not to understand that. People from many of the tribes in the north, whether muslim or christian (and I'm sure you know there are many christians there) are more often than not short on temperamnent and quick to anger. In the current crisis, if the reports that thousands of cows were killed in the January attacks are correct, then I don't see this later attacks would be difficult to fathom. You don't kill a Fulani man's cow, even one, and go to bed with your two eyes closed. The security agencies failed woefully here. This was preventable. I read many hate-filled verbal attacks on this thread, just like on many threads on this board. While I understand the background for those hate-filled verbose, I think it is better if it is directed at the people as a tribe or ethnic group, not at their religion. The verbal attacks are actually many times unprovoked. If ever there was a truly religious crisis, it is such unwarranted verbal attacks and expressions of hate for a religion that's the cause. Imagine a verbal attack on the religion of a short-tempered man on the street of Funtua, a reaction (most probably over-reaction) from a short tempered people, then a counter-reaction and it snowballs into a big crisis. @uplawal I think you should check this your unhelpful attitude to the kiling of children and defenceless women. Must you be happy that children have been killed? What purpose does it serve? The killing of children and women is everything against the rules of engagement in Islaam. I don't see how you are helping Islaam with your perspective and attitude. |
somebody help Colin Aduah pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease! |
@post : Muslims think like psychotic donkeys. Why will you celebrate Muhammeds birthday (The Mafian boss) and not yours ? Who is Muhammed anyway ? He is not a prophet in the first place. Historically: according to the Quran, Ahadith, Arab & Islamic records, the spread of Muhammadan Islam in the Jazeera al Arabia - the Arabian Peninsula - was achieved by the shedding of a sea of Arabian blood to start with, followed later on with the Arabian conquests through the shedding of an ocean of blood of the conquered and subjugated peoples.
how is this warranted? it is this kind of unguided utterance - provocation - that causes promblems if said to people who can't handle it. One can imagine what a people with a hot temperament could do in the face of such unwarranted provocation. , and then we wonder why there are many violent altercations in the north of Nigeria a misguided provocation, a reaction (probably over-reaction), a counter (retaliation), on and on, then we turn round and heap all the blame on the hot tempered people, the initial provocation all conviniently forgotten. |
funny! the mob has ignored this thread. or the mob is thinking up the most appropriate 'uprooting' of this well thought out piece. but I must say it's not only the south that's guilty of this narrow-minded interpretation of every 'drop- of- a hat'. |
probably the best thread I've come across on NL! this thread has spanned months and both decent people here have kept at it most decently - congratulations! I have a feeling Jarus has also been helpful in keeping this clean by deleting stray posts. I hope we all can keep it like this - decent. May Allah (SWT) reward Lagosboy for this great effort. I hope Ify finds this most useful and helpful - and other seekers of Truth too. I hope also that folks will spare this thread of the usual pollution. |
Or is the north responsible for James Ibori or Lucky Igbinedion or Alameisiya raping their states blind with little or no developments to see in some of .the states. states in the north with northern govs have issues states in the south governed by southerners have sometimes bigger issues: how do you blame the north for that |
this country is in a mess because of this kind of prejudiced or at best misinformed sentiments. think about it Oyo state for example is NOT a northern state Alao Akala it's governor is NOT a northerner the people who either voted for him or couldn't stand by their votes were NOT northerners the man who conducted the election that put him in office is NOT a northerner the president who oversaw the electoral process at that time was NOT a northerner let's face it, the problem is hardly the north. In fact, Joe-six-pack in the north is more victim than Joe in the south. the problem here are the politicians, regardless of their extraction. All of you Joes and Janes here don't see eye-to-eye, but the politicians, north, south, east and west are friends at least until they need to incite you the Joes for their selfish ends. |
this board is a proof that most Nigerians are mostly emptily religious but hardly Godly. More insults and diatribes are exchanged on this board than on any other board on NL, most probably. If you wonder why we have violent clashes many times in the country, here, this board, is your answer. Why can't the virtues of decency and some respect for the other person be a guiding principle for people here who lay claim to some religiosity even when you are in disagreement with the other folk. |
@ kiwi992 thanks bro! you're the man! I'll try and make it useful and worth your while. thanks again, good bro! |
@ kiwi999 egbon kiwi, I beg as you dey try to dash butter for bread for all obodo naija pipu, God go dey helepu you sef. wafi pipu no dey carry last, we sef no go carry last. naija pipu no be olodo na. i beg helepu me sef carry 'that thing' put for my doormootu for internet e-mail mi ni yi: for4tunate@yahoo.com mo nreti esi yin laipe. mo dupe pupo. |
thanks kashif. I'd like to get something straight please. Are you saying PMI might accept hours spent volunteering in an informal arrangement like working in community projects as project team experience? I have no experience as far as i understand. the most I've done is supervise a couple of construction work as the head of the plale where I work. thanks again mate. |
@esah Good development, this. I'd like to know more, especially about getting involved. |
the suggestion isn't so ridiculous. would the suggestion solve the power problems in the country? certainly not. would it help in alleviating the hardship and make the solution achievable more quickly? i think yes. i look at it this way: if currently there are 1 million of those 60watts bulbs in the country (assumed figure) that translates literally to 60million watts of consumption. changing those to 20 wattage bulbs mean the consumption due to those lighting points become 20 million watts, a third of the previous figure! now again, will only that solve the problem? I repeat NO. but obviously would be very helpful, wouldn't it? Government should increase supply of megawatts Citizens should endeavor to reduce demand of megawatts any way they can now that isn't a ridiculous or unrealistic proposal, is it? |
@bode228 you posted this same exact words about two years ago. same exact words! copy and paste, i suppose. the email addy you posted isn't even active. |
@ kashif please I need some advice; I took the EMC class with Project management college, UK and the course content include general project management methodologies, PRINCE 2 and MS project and the certificate I'll be getting is the school's and I'm thinking of taking the PRINCE 2 foundation exam so I can get the Institute's own certificate, but is it really necessary is wot I want to know. Your response would be highly appreciated. NB: Please where can one get project management experience for a budding PM myself who is a fresh graduate? Thanx in advance! kashif, modu, uluhomono, others, please answer these queries; especially the part in bold. pleeease. |
i thought people here could read! the guy - kashif - said it's against the law to distribute the book freely stop asking him to do what's wrong pls! if you won't stick to ethical conduct, you won't be anything close to PMP. |
alex406:no, I'm not outta my mind. Don't resort to insults, produce the proof of your claim. All nigerian dailies are online, aren't they? |
ah well, it's good to know you don't have to worry about some people's comments here. what this fellow probably heard is "Information minister dumps 'heart of Africa'and he understands that to mean 'Information minister dumps Nigeria'. Feeling vindicated, he rushed to |
BIG UPS to kashif, Modu and uholomolo(hope i got that rite). they say knowledge is power and with great power comes great responsibility its just great to c u guys standing up to that responsibility. I would like to get u guys expert advice though, am going for my masters in Europe and am aiming to use a project management certification to hold down a job on the side while am there, and it seems PRINCE 2 is more widely accepted in the EU. So am thinkin should i take PRINCE 2 or PMP. Will really appreciate any helpful advice. May long term aim is to be an ERP project manager by trade, and maybe handle projects unrealted to Erp on the side. someone answer this please |
sedeagu: ![]() ![]() ??somebody answer pleeeaaaaaaase!!! |
pardon the aside but i think the topic of this thread should read 'which are the 5 most developed, ' not 'what are the 5 most , ' or maybe this semantic exactitude isn't important? i stand corrected. |
Muslims need to create time to learn their Deen. It's scary how little many muslim know about their faith. I've been impressed by ife-eco and a couple other brothers and sisters here, though. His stuff on the exorcism thread is impressive. I suggest muslims on this board endeavour to use this holiday period to learn more about their faith. read books read islamic magazines listen to good tapes better still, attend seminars, workshops, lectures, talks facilitated by good scholars of Islam attend an islamic vacation (holiday)course. there is one I know is going on (24th dec 08 - 1st jan 09) at the Lagos State Model College in Meiran, Lagos. I'm sure it would be worth your time and the trouble. you'll go back to work a more informed, more knowledgeable, better muslim. |
may Allah bless you, ife. (jarus )I hope muslims here and non-muslims alike find this thread beneficial. And, 'thanks', funmi, for starting this. I hope it benefits you. |
nikkyt:i think you should name who you would have nominated. age could be a factor but so could be experience. i don't give a dime about rilwan lukman i don't know if he will perform well or not but he's a world renowned technocrat. The administration wants a reform of the sector Rilwan Lukman headed a committee that suggested far reaching reforms It appeals to logic to let him execute his own suggested reforms, doesn't it? |
@poster I don't have an idea what xtianity has to answer your question as for Islaam ALL chilldren who dies before they reach the age of reckoning go unhindered to Paradise. The prophet of Allah made that clear. They are in fact described as being in the company of the Father of Faith - Abraham. |

, I might try to provide some insight to the question you asked.
