Doesn't seem like a while lot! I don't think these numbers are correct. For a full six months, an oil producing state only gets N46bln!? |
idris4r83:We Nigerians are always looking for crash in everything! Crash in phone tariffs, crash in electricity prices, crash is price of cars, crash in dollar rate. And for what? Only to consume. You better put on your thinking cap to find out what you can Produce! My dad told me when i was young not to pray for prices of stuff to come down cos they never will, but rather to pray to be able to continue to afford it. Meaning my income will have to rise to meet it. $1 in 1980 America will buy much more than one dollar today, so it's not only in Nigeria prices go up. Do you look at the cost of production at all before expecting priced to come down? So everyone should make losses because of you abi. |
ritababe:We need more of everything. Remember though that this is a private investment. Any investor is free to come into the country. We won't chase them because they are bringing FDI, while we continue to work on bringing heavy industry FDI into the country. You should also recognise that retail is easy to enter because of the size of our population. Industry is more complicated because of the technological complications, Port size, ease of logistics etc. For ev it seems strange that despite our big population, Samsung and LG don't have manufacturing plants here, but asides the issues mentioned above, for a factory to break even, it must produce at a certain scale that our economy might not be able to support because our purchasing power for such things isn't big enough - which is why they will continue to import or at best assemble. |
hardywaltz:Exactly my point. What they should do instead is to fire those who are not competent and not working well. Dunno why we have such a problem with sacking in public service when it's so clear many people are doing little or nothing. |
How do you bring in your cars? I thought import of cars through land borders had been banned. |
You can see where all our police officers are!! The tough, strong ones are guarding private individuals, while the hungry, tattered looking ones are on the Expressway. But really, where has this e money guy suddenly surfaced from? The way billionaires show up in Nigeria without warning ehn!! The FIRS should visit this guy Pronto!! |
N43MLN AT 370 exchange rate comes to $116k. Meanwhile a new one in US is circa $60k. Only the AMG is about $73k. I know one still has to ship and pay duty, but this seems excessively priced. |
Unfortunately this won't have any impact on availability of gas for power generation as its going to the export market. |
My approach to this would be increase the salaries of the lowest Cadre like up to level 10, while keeping those above level 10 constant (for now) to close the wage disparity. The increase can be funded by reducing the workforce. There is no doubt that our civil service is over staffed. Just go to federal secretariat in any state and see how many people are just sitting at desks doing nothing. I went to collect my passport at immigration and the job of someone of like 55 years was to ensure that I filled one book stating that that I collected my passport. And that one will go home everyday and say he is working? That kind of dude need to go. Worst case a corper should be doing that. There is an Orosanye report that recommends rationalization of a number of agencies and parastatals, but various government including this one seem to be scared to implement it. We have so many agencies and parastatals that we have never even heard of. Basically doing nothing but existing under the radar and just paying salaries. That is why we need Chinese to come and discover stuff in Cross River, yet we have many solid minimal research agencies in place, we have geologists in universities who never conduct field studies etc. |
What's this nonsense if announcing special prices at festive periods? If the rice if sufficiently available and is profitable at those prices then simply sell in the open market at those prices. That way other people will have to reduce their price or go out of business. |
That is a big fat lie!! Cost of production was never $78 per barrel!! Unless the guy doesn't know the metric he's talking about. I know someone who work's for a multinational oil company and he said their unit operating cost is circa $15 per barrel and their unit development cost is about $35per barrel. And going by the graph shown, the metric looks to be unit operating cost. |
They should have rapid response air support I in case they run into militants while on patrol. |
BabaAlabi:Mobile data prices in Nigeria are comparable with those in UK or US. |
Very valid point!I wonder why we are always fixated on people instead of processes in this country. There are even more than 1000 people who would do the job better than Magu. If I were the President, I would make the Senate suffer by sacking Magu and bringing someone who is even more brutally efficient in the corruption war. Then the Senate would know that the devil they know is better than the one they don't know. |
And what about the lounge for the regular Nigerians? |
I recall that over the last 10 years whenever the Nigerian government tried to increase petroleum prices to reduce/remove subsidies there has been an uproar on social media. One of the popular statements has been to refer to petrol prices in Venezuela which are reported to be as low as N10 per litre. However, now that crude prices have crashed Venezuela has been in a severe crisis. There is talk of a coup, there is no medicine, food and basic supplies. Citizens have formed queues to go across the border to buy food and there is runaway inflation. Amazing that this is the country that so many on social media would like Nigeria to be like! The truth is that Venezuela has bankrupted itself by using their money to pay for subsidies and senseless social programs when it should have been building infrastructure, diversifying etc. Exactly the same things Nigeria has been trying to get away from. The truth is that subsidies usually breed corruption (Diezani, Kola Aluko and omokre were able to make the kind of money they did because we had subsidies in place), incompetence, inefficiency etc and long term it's the people that suffer. https://www.google.com.ng/amp/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/36319877 |
Isn't any international company allowed to repatriate their profits? Can anyone rationally explain exactly what the issue or "crime" is? If I buy a house in US for $100k, haven't I moved money out of Nigeria? So what's the fuss all about? |
Since Irish potatoes grow pretty well in Jos, why don't we have chips processing facilities for local production and export |
We've seen enough of these types of projects to know that nothing will come out of it. If you want examples let me give you a couple. Tinapa Ibom deep sea port Lekki master plan Nuff said! |
TippyTop:Him stating that those clamoring for restructuring are opportunists doesn't meant he doesn't support restructuring if done properly!! For eg while I can agree that some of the privatization done in the past was shodilly done and sold to crannies, I am still an avid supporter of privatization if done properly. |
When is nokia6 coming? |
Huawei E5573bs-322 4G Mobile Wi-Fi - Discover - Three http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Devices/Huawei/E5573bs-322_4G_Mobile_Wi-Fi?memory=0&colour=White To make my point 3 telecoms UK is offering 15Gb for £20 (N10,000). With Glo, spectranet, swift, Airtel and MTN, you get more than that for the price. |
Smooyis:What is milking there? Companies are within their rights to changes prices, products and services. Besides mobile data in Nigeria is competitive with even most parts of the developed world in terms of price per Gb. Where we still lag behind is speed, but that because our networks have too many people on them. Because we have fewer base stations, more people and zero landlines, we have more congestion |
All these years they didn't come together for economic integration, but all of a sudden they have woken up abi? This is nothing but a political move to increase relevance ahead if 2019. If it was really about the people who live in those 2 regions, it would even have been good. Is it these vagabond governors that really care about you and me. Killers and corrupt basterds!! Mtschew!!! |
Wow! Lovely concept. Wish we could do a similar tournament in Nigeria. Pity we don't have a proper indoor facility like this in Nigeria. |
So they didn't have that sense all this while? It's only when things go South that anybody in government even BEGINS to think!! |
And so when then? What if he picks El Rufai? Is that a crime? I do not mind El Rufai at all. He and Sanusi are the best minds the North has to offer. |
Luckylife:So why do you necessarily believe Sahara reporters and not the acting president!? |
KahlDrogo:The use of walking sticks by military officials who are supposed to be fit should be banned!!! If they insist on using the walking sticks, then they should retire!!! |
wristbangle:Don't you get it! This is a chicken and egg situation. The Genco's need more revenue to fund capital investment, and you don't want to pay more until you get 24 hours power. So which one will happen first. If anyone is to be honest though, the tariffs need to go up considering that most components for power are imported and dollar has gone from 200 to 370. A win win situation would be to stagger the increase based on a usage range. Say for eggs 0-100kwh per month, rate stays same, 101- 250kwh per month N45 per unit and then 250+ kwh per month you pay N60. That way the middle and high class who use more power pay more and the lower class who use less power pay less. And the end of the day the weighted average price comes to say N50 and that is a price high enough to cover costs. If we think for once in this country, we can find solutions instead of making noise, |
If tuition in unilag is free then no wonder the quality of education there (and in our public university is so poor). Fact is its really, real hard to find something free and of good quality. |
