Wasn't even aware Nigeria was building an international airport in kaduna. How many people will patronize it? Not sure even Abuja is sufficiently utilized. |
The power isn't even in simply being the largest producer/exporter of Cocoa. It's in being able to have industries to process all that Cocoa before its exported. Food processing is where the real value add is. |
Tomoarika:Well said! My sentiments as well. The removal of the roundabout will help, but not the ultimate solution. Best solution would have been to provide u turn loops at areas where you cant go across the road, let people turn back fro say 300m before negotiating to the right. i'e the loops should be like midway between the current roundabouts. |
Looks very boring and lifeless these days. or is it that the pictures have not done it justice |
obailala:Very valid point though! If indeed we used the coal to generate 24hrs electricity, we would probably be better off considering the generators that will go offline. Besides there are technologies to minimize emissions now. We could reinject into the ground for one. |
While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but coal is now on the back foot due to issues around emissions. If we wanted to use that coal to generate power, we might not find countries to either loan us the money or the technology to build it. I wonder why we aren't focusing more on solar and wind though. Estimates have it that by 2017/2018 both solar and wind will be cheaper than electricity from gas, coal or nuclear. That means demand for crude oil will fall further. And electric vehicles are expected to take the world by storm in the next 10 to 15years as they become mass market. Meaning even less demand for fossil fuels. I hope Nigeria is planning ahead on how to run this country without high oil prices? Cos it looks like we may be at these 40 dollar level for along time to come. |
Story for the God's!!! |
Did the FG establish the parallel market in the first place? So how can they abolish it. |
thunderbabs:Olabisi Onalaja is indeed useless!! Mine has been close to a year now with no luck. And I'm based I PH so I can't just wake up and go there every other weekend. |
Sweetguy25:This is a very valid point actually. |
luvinhubby:Don't be daft! The economy is worse off now because oil was $115 and now $40. Not to mention consistent production outages! Buhari is simply unlucky, though he hasn't handled things as well as he could have. |
sanandreas:That Abuja issue is a common argument, but another argument I have is what have the Governors of the Niger Delta done with their allocations since 1999? If spent properly, the ND states should be much better. So the fact is even if the ND states get 100% derivation, most of the money will be stolen, incompetently utilized, and 20 years down the line, we will still be asking ourselves how we spent the money. The issue is not about FG or Northerners, it's about the fact that ALL politicians inthis country are corrupt and incompetent!! |
It's a pity we no longer have true investigative journalism in Nigeria. It would be really interesting to have an expose on what goes in in our universities and other institutions for that matter. |
I am not convinced these designs will do the trick! it still means stopping at junctions, which will slow down traffic. Lagos is a city that doesn't need to be stopped even for a second. A better design would be one that would just loop you to the other side of the road, like the Abuja airport road or the return loop at the second toll gate that you use to return to the opposite lane. That way there is no stoppage at all. |

Thanks. Noted!! |
Hi. Been following your thread. How much are the following cars to deliver to Lagos now: 14/15 Benz e 350 14/15 Benz ml 14/15 Toyota avalon xle 14/15 Toyota highlander My model year could go a year back of its same design and would help it be cheaper |
Fiwasayo:It won't be if you don't litter the streets!! I've seen someone driving wind down the rear window for her kids to throw food trash out on to the road. Sounds like something you might do. You who is complaining...! |
While repairing the road is of utmost importance, what is perhaps even more important is the management of the road after full rehab/reconstruction. Too often, the mismanagement of our roads causes them to fall into disrepair very quickly. No channel for water to run off the road (usually too much bush right where the road surface ends), too much human and vehicular traffic by the sides of roads causes the edges of the road to chip at the edges and water to access under the laterite cover. We have roads not expressways in Nigeria. Anyone who has driven from PH to Aba wil concur. You have shops, houses etc just 10 feet away from the so called expressway with cars parking and reversing unto the road. Where on earth (except Nigeria) does that happen? Interestingly, when Fasola became minister, he spoke about reclaiming the rights of way on all our "expressways". Apparently, he has forgot all about that now. |
Whats with the use of walking stick by top ranking millitary officers If I were Buhari, I would ban it. |
Explored, discovered even doesnt make it an oil producing state. When the resources are developed, then it can quanlify. The volumes discovered may not even be of commercial quantity. |
Give it 6 months and half of these cars will be nowhere to be found |
What is more important is effective maintenance and management of the road after its completed. We could extend life of our roads by 3 times if only we maintained our roads properly. For eg the PH to Eket stretch of the East West road is not of the most spotless roads i have driven on for while, but you can see that it is not being maintained. Once the first pot hole appears on that road, its all over. When it should be a piece of cake to do a proper repair job on a simple pothole and keep the road going for years. |
The truth if the matter is that there is little this or any other government could have done. We as individuals and as a nation are the architects of our problems. If we only have mainly a single export product and the price falls from $100 to $40 and production falls from 2mln barrels to 900k barrels for a considerable part of the year, what do we expect to happen? Considering that as individuals too everything around us in imported! Think about it! from cars to TV to phones, ac, printing paper, rice, tomato paste, our jeans, shoes, shirts, boxers... even toothpick!! And this is where the government over the years is our primary problem as they have failed to to invest in infrastructure, put business friendly policies in place, fight corruption incompetence and nepotism, save for the future, provide quality education etc. Imagine that now skins in Nigeria are so bad people would rather get tilers and Pop guys from togo and Benin Republic!! This country is in a crisis and the political class are all just looking for what they can get out of the system and not devoting any real time to putting a solid foundation in place. We are largely an incompetent nation. Give any guy to do a job for you and you spend all the time arguing about the quality of the job and that's if he doesn't abandon in and run away mid way. |
Well to be honest, you get what you pay for? Shell, Mobil and Co typically recruit from Covenant and the like, not from these types of schools. Call it unfair all you like but no one can deny that the quality difference between private and public is very wide. Not necessarily because of the quality of lecturers, but nothing in the public space from salaries to administration, facilities etc encourages lecturers. Professors from public schools go the the private ones and immediately sit up, cos there are not proper procedures for everything in place, not to mention more money. |
Smile has a history if the data being used up in circumstances that cannot be explained. I had to port to spectranet after neverbeing able to get my 5Gb to last a month. With Spectranet on the other hand I keep having lots of data rolled over to the new month. And I haven't changed any settings on my devices. In fact the smile was set to 2mbps. And it's not just me. Everybody in my office complained as well. |
I don't see Ntel lasting very long. Since they launched they are yet to get to pH! And not like they are even making waves in the cities where they operate. |
Asgafconcepts:My mistake. Apparently Sony Asia makes those. http://www.sony-asia.com/electronics/portable-chargers/t/portable-chargers I'm usually on Sony Europe of America website |
Cant another state government do something new Every body does the exact same thing - free trade zone, build airport, build e-library, rescusitate streetlights with generator etc. Would like to see a state do something really brand new! Guess that can only be Lagos state, where all of them copy from.Ah! Anambra did something new actually with its vegetable export. And Cross River in the Donald Duke era tried with Tinapa. |
superstarDikk:I don't see any scripted plan anywhere Bros. Asides Road, which mega project is there in SE that we have been unable to fund of recent? Mambilla is a project we have known of for decades. Lagos rail makes sense as it has 40% of Nigeria GDP. Kano kaduna makes sense also. Kano is a huge commercial town too and distances in the north are much larger than in the east. And they are poorer up there and have less vehicular traffic. Don't forget a lot of Agricultural produce comes from up north. No insults please! Just put your views across like a mature adult o! |
While projects should not be sited in a zone because of political reasons or federal character the only issue I see with the list is why calabar port Harcourt real is there. I don't see the additional commerce this will bring. Port Harcourt - Aba- Enugu might have made more sense as food produce from Benue/Kogi, which is Above Enugu could move into the south east and south south zone easily. Also id have liked to have seen $1bln for either 1000MW solar (can only be in the north) or wind to reduce our dependence on gas. To be fair, SE doesn't have any major project in the pipeline of recent that had needed to be done asides roads and there is no road anywhere in the country on the list. Not fully convinced this is the best use of $30bln Sha. |
Sony does not make power banks |
Rather than the FG collect the toll directly, I would prefer that the roads are concessioned to a road management company for an agreed annual fixed fee over say 10 years, while the firm collects the daily tolls and guarantees 100% quality on the roads. So if the firm pays N1bln to govt and they were able to raise N1.3bln, the N300mln profit is for them, which would still be subject to company income tax anyway. |
