LordAdam16:Have you also considered the tax laws? I'm sure you know Capital allowances are? And in fact Dangote has consistently invested in new cement plants, so the capital expenditure will be knocked off whatever he should pay. And that's not counting the pioneer status provision as well (assuming he has pioneer status) so its understandable. I recall reading in the news a few days ago that Amazon UK paid GBP15mln on revenues of GBP19.5bln!!! That's why these corporate giants get good tax accountants and lawyers. There is only a crime in tax evasion but not tax avoidance. https://www.thebalance.com/tax-avoidance-vs-evasion-397671 https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/aug/10/amazon-uk-halves-its-corporation-tax-to-74m-as-sales-soar-to-7bn |
But na we go still spoil am. Give it 2 weeks and boys have pasted all manner of poster on it. |
Obi1kenobi:So why are other petrol importers not interested in setting up their own refineries? Many people were given refinery licence before Dangote, but non of them started! Why? Because most of them wanted FG to give them lifting rights to crude. So in effect they didn't really want to operate refinery, they wanted to use it as a back door to be carrying crude in the name of operating refinery. basically easy money. As for paying through the nose for refined crude, by how much are you expecting the price to come down just because its refined locally? Do you realize that it is probably less efficient to produce in Nigeria? Pipelines would burst and be repaired incessantly, local govt, state govt and FG will bring multitude of taxes, he will have to spend more on CSR in Nigeria than a refinery in Texas would!! All of this cost would be added to the final product. The only upside is that wages should be lower and the cost of shipping it to Nigeria should disappear, but then again, I have heard many times that it is cheaper to get a container from China to Lagos than from Lagos to Kano. At the end of the day the factors of production will determine the price. Or do you think because crude is in Nigeria, it will be free to Dangote? He will have to pay NGN equivalent of the international price for it - that's if the IOC's (or whoever is selling to him) don't even ask to be paid in USD. All said and done, I'm not supporting Dangote or otherwise. I'm just trying to be objective and not look at this sentimentally or ethnically. |
If Buhari has any sense, in order to make a point he should sack Baru and make Kachikwu MD NNPc/Minister of Petroleum. |
Emmytrill:Likewise Bro. I also had high hopes for Buhari. I can now officially label Buhari as clueless!! He will not be getting my vote in 2019 if APC puts him forward. And unless APC rigs the election, if they put Buhari forward I doubt he will win a free and fair election, even with the masses of the North behind him. |
What do these ministers always have to joke and laugh about. |
I hope the Lagos Ibadan line will go through redemption camp. That would be a monthly money spinner. In fact if LASg can do a intra city line from the airport to the Lagos terminus, then people flying in could also get to camp in one seamless move. |
PETERENI1:Didn't you read the original post!? |
Shorsky1:And why didn't the other party in power do any of these in 16 years?? If every government had worked and the next government built on the previous one, we'd have moved forward by now and this government wouldn't have to be doing as many lines as at least 3 to 4 would have been finished in 16 years. |
And surprisingly this occurs in our own country, yet non of our professors who like to go on strike have ever done any research to find out the cause! We are waiting for oyinbo to come and find out the cause for us!! |
Pretty crappy website! These guys are not going anywhere! Usually, you can tell a lot about the quality of a company by its website!! |
You all should also remember that it's not every country in Europe that has bullet trains. The Greece, Bulgaria, Romania etc of this world don't have. So if we have trains that run at that speed, e haven't done too bad. For your info virgin trains pendolino trains between London and Manchester operate at 250kph, so if we do 150kph we ain't that bad. |
Realdeals:Try London to Manchester and see how much you will pay. Be there complaining of N750! That can barely buy 5 cokes. |
CKcarmat:The total cost to me if I were buying from cotonou. Purchase price, plus custom, plus delivery etc. |
FG should concession the key strategic roads in Nigeria. Lagos Ibadan Shagamu Benin (and rest of East West road) Ibadan Ilorin (on to Abuja) Port Harcourt Enugu Abuja Kaduna Kaduna Kano Owerri Onitsha Onitsha Enugu There may be more since I'm not familiar with the north, but these are roads that should be in tip top shape at all times. If I concession Lagos Ibadan for say 1bln for 10 years annual payment of N100mln, I upgrade infrastructure, am responsible for maintenance and I toll and keep all receipts for myself (of course still paying Company income tax on my profits), that seems like a win win to me - as follows: For the people, yes they pay a toll, but the road remains in top top shape for 10 years. I'd rather pay N2k going to ibadan and back (N1k each way) on a spotless road than not pay and have issues with my car, waste more time and have more risk of dying. For government, there is no need to budget for the road for 10 years and they actually get annual fee and taxes For the economy at large, it add multiplier effects in terms of faster logistics, less loss of life for accidents Support businesses will get a piece of the pie I e proper trailer parks and those selling food etc, and of course people working at the toll Plaza earn an income. |
Zhahovic:Denied!! With evidence! Na wa o!! |
Although I do not agree with the approach being taken by Buhari, the question I have for the people of the South East is that the various issues of marginalization, how come no complaint is being laid at the foot of the governors. The governors always point to the FG as the cause of the problems and yet the people stupidly believe. No region has gained due to its people in power. The only people that benefit are the politicians through corruption, otherwise the north should have been a dubai by now, but they are even the poorest region of all. So where has the money gone? What have governors of the SE been doing since for its people since 1999. |
Flets:You shouldn't be in a rush to insult and criticize! if you'd only spare some time to think, you might realize the answer to your own question. We do not need any further capital investment to generate more power, because we have thousands of megawatts stranded because we have no gas to fire them! So all that is needed is more gas and pronto, the power plants produce more power!! Now I am not saying that we actually DID produce 700+Mw, I'm just giving you reasons why it COULD have been possible. |
Sorry I was trying to Quote the earlier post on page 44/45 that had the picture of an E Class there.I had thought the picture would show on my own post. I believe its an 2015/16 E Class E350. From Cotonou. |
hassrash:Thanks Bro, but i'm curious why a M Class benz is twice the cost of an e class benz of the same year? The prices as brand new are prety much the same. |
How much would land CLEAN, SPOTLESS versions of these cars to my door mot in Lagos: 2015 E CLass E350 2015 C CLass C200 2016 Toyota Avalon 2016 Lexus ES350 2015 ML 350 2015 Toyota Highlander XLE Thanks |
CKcarmat:How much would bring in this E class to Naija?? |
I hope they will all still be on the road by end of the year!! |
The FG is supposed to work for Nigeria's interest and not Atikus interest. If Atikus is monopolizing port operations with Intels, why shouldn't that monopoly be broken if it's in the best interest of the country, regardless of if Atiku is in APC or not. This just shows the mind of the individual. He's only interested to make money and further his empire, not the to better the lot of the people. |
They should also please clear abandoned vehicles on all our roads, especially inner roads. They are an eyesore and cause restrictions to smooth flow of traffic. |
Ezenwa's cost us the game. It wasn't a penalty, but due to his experience and clowning around he gave the referee an opportunity to give the penalty. He looked like he was getting a little too comfortable and confident. In games like this, a keeper that's not very busy needs to constantly be on edge. |
I always felt Ezenwa's monkeying around was going to cost us. He had started to get a little cocky! |
I'm curious though, what was the composition of the Nnpc board in the 5 or 6 years that GEJ was president? |
While I don't condone extra judicial killings, the truth is that Nigerians are indisciplined and corrupt and we take that to a lot of places we go to. I have been to SA and my Nigerian friend living there showed me an area of jo burg dominated by Nigerians that native South Africans are terrified to go to. Even SA police tread with caution there. And what do our boys do there? Drugs, fraud, prostitution etc. Not to say that there aren't honest business men in SA, but just like we do in Nigeria here, we fail to conduct ourselves properly. If a Nigerian drug dealer in SA gets killed, should we be making a fuss!? If Nigerian police had killed Evans, many of us would rejoice that a notorious criminal is off the streets. What of the ALUU 4? So we are not better when it comes to random killings in Nigeria. |
Nice! We really need to encourage local tourism in Nigeria. Wentbto olumo Rock last week with my family and had a good time. But before local tourism and vacations can take off we need good interstate roads, security, good marketing, well built resorts etc. Funny enough we have some decent resorts, but their marketing is so poor. For example I thought of going to obudu but I couldn't even find a functional website for them. Is that a serious resort? |
I hope the contract includes the evacuation of the power.? |

Importing cement pre-Obasanjo was actually easier on the Nigerian population, seeing as cement, and consequently construction, was far cheaper. The so-called "local production" has only been a curse to us. The 10,000 Nigerian workers Dangote cement employs is not worth the sacrifice millions of Nigerians have to make.
