PoliticsRe: Lagos Signs $1.35 Billion Deal For Fourth Mainland Bridge, Other Key Projects by COMPAQ(m): 12:59pm On Nov 04, 2023

There will more influx of people. Lagos is due for 4th mainland and also independent power. The pressure and traffic will reduce on 3rd mainland. People in Ikorodu axis will not need to come through Ketu to 3rd or to western Ave. It will also open up Ikorodu. Ikorodu is opposite of Lekki (across the water).
And how many people in Lekki go to Ikorodu or environs on a typical day of vice versa? Compared to those who head to Marina, VI, to work everyday.

Traffic on 3rd mainland is typically about those who go to and from work and those who head to the markets on the island. The majority of the population is west of 3rd mainland, cos the east is almost all lagoon. So 4th mainland doesn't help like 90% of Lagos population in my view.

Good governance is not by building humongous projects.

Mr Gov do the little things that have the greatest impacts on the lives of lagosians first.

The inner roads are terrible. 80% of streets roads in lagos are in terrible conditions. If we cant drive out of our houses of what use is this 4th mainland bridge or the blue line or red line?

I know some hediots will come and talk rubbish under my comment but that's your headache.

Fix the goddamned state roads first. Fix the streets
Totally agree. You need to see the traffic on the Lekki corridor in the mornings due to just 2 bad spots at Ikate junction and freedom road junction. Simple fix that shouldn't take 1day,but we've been suffering for like 2months.

But same government that can manage basic issues wants to focus on a multi billion project.

Tinubu Speaks On Request For Presidential Yacht Worth N5 BillionPublished on 2 November 2023 at 11:25 AMBy Rachel Okporu Fadoju
Kindly share this story:

President Tinubu seeks Senate approval for an additional $7.8 billion and €100 million in his 2022-2024 borrowing plan
The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has debunked reports making the rounds online over plans to purchase a presidential yacht worth N5 billion.
Naija News earlier reported that the federal government is planning to spend N5 billion to purchase a presidential yacht in the 2023 Supplementary Budget.

It was learned that the proposed sum is under the capital expenditure of the Nigerian Navy’s budget.

According to the breakdown, the Navy will require N62.8 billion for its operations, with recurrent expenditure and capital expenditure gulping N20.4 billion and N42.3 billion, respectively.

However, in a statement on Thursday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temiope Ajayi, clarified that Tinubu didn’t request any yacht and did not need one to perform his function considering the current state of the economy.

According to him, the request for a yacht was framed in the Navy’s budget, and it is assumed that they have an operational reason for it.

The statement reads, “It has become a pattern for some individuals, CSOs and a section of the media to pick one or two line items every budget cycle for sensational headlines, deliberately ignoring context in their reporting.

“The public that should benefit from good journalism, which should primarily educate and adequately inform, is left confused and miseducated due to the mischaracterisation of issues and misrepresentation of facts.

“The trending issues on social media since yesterday are two items in the 2023 supplementary budget. One is the provision for a presidential yacht in the supplementary budget by the Navy and the other is over N6 billion for vehicles to the State House.

“It is important to state clearly that President Bola Tinubu didn’t ask for a presidential yatch and I doubt he needs one to perform the functions of his office. From what I know, the request for a yacht, however it is named or couched in the budget is from the Navy and they must have operational reasons for why it is required.

“The budget office should be in a position to also explain to the public why such expenditure should be accommodated now, considering the economic situation of the country. I must readily admit that the one reason our budgeting system has been a subject of public attack is the very simplistic way some of the line items are described by civil servants, who prepare the budget. Examples abound. Sometimes in 2016, an Enterprise Resource Planning ( ERP) project of the Ministry of Solid Minerals worth over N300m then was captured in that year’s budget as “website”. Naturally, it generated a massive controversy as people, rightly, asked to know the type of website that will be built with N300million.

“It is important to say that journalism should enrich public enlightenment and not create an atmosphere of siege. It is poor reporting to always reduce State House budgetary provisions to the President and Vice President. When the State House makes provision for vehicles, it is reported as if it is the President that will use all the vehicles or eat all the food when a provision is made for food and catering services. We have had such inaccurate reporting in the past.”
Then why don't you bloody clarify what its in the budget for, instead of talking about food!!
PoliticsRe: Lagos Signs $1.35 Billion Deal For Fourth Mainland Bridge, Other Key Projects by COMPAQ(m): 10:56am On Nov 01, 2023
Dobodobo04:
I’m not saying it shouldn’t be built but it’s not urgent.

If they have money to do both, I still would prioritise power, waste management, drainage, security, etc over the bridge.

The bridge would probably benefit a section of Lagosians. Uninterrupted power will benefit all Lagosians. You also get enormous tax revenues from electricity bills you can subsequently use to build future bridges. No need to even borrow to have them built.
I agree with you! For me 4th mainland isn't a priority. The extension of the blue line to Okokomaiko, completion of the Red line and execution of the green line to connect Lekki corridor to Marina are more people oriented and impact many more people for the long term. If at all any road should be done, it should be completion of the regional road (which seems to have been abandoned).

And if the LASG even put in effort to improve the traffic flow by keeping roads well motorized, getting Danfo away from junctions which constricts traffic flow, and implementing smart traffic lights that change sequence based on the flow of traffic, the traffic in Lagos would improve dramatically. We are too lazy to do the simple things, but we are quick to do multi billion dollar projects!! We all know why though?

Finally... That'll be a great relief to 3rd Mainland bridge.
How exactly does it provide relief to 3rd mainland bridge??

The majority of traffic from 3rd Mainland is folks from the Gbagada, Anthony, Ikeja, Ogudu, Ketu, Ojota, Ilupeju, Oshodi, Ogba axis. And to a lesser extent from Yaba axis, who are going to work on the island everyday.

Even if you are coming from Ikorodu and work on the island, 3rd mainland still makes the most sense.

How does this 4th mainland help them to achieve that, given its location on the map, relative to 3rd mainland?

With this development, there will be panic selling, in the long run, there will be more sales of the USD which will eventually crash the rate of USD according to the law of demand and supply. The Naira will gain more against the USD by December due to the diaspora remittance (people will troop in for the holiday season), furthermore the Naira will fully bounce back as soon the 3 proposed refineries + the Dangote refinery begins operation at a full scale. In six months the official USD rate will be around 300-400 Naira cool
Diaspora remittance doesn work again in this era of online P2P. Many years ago, those returning had no choice but to bring the cash and go to aboki in Ikeja to sell. And then demand want also this much.

Now the money is swallowed up online sef, e no go even reach lagos.

13. Expand the official foreign exchange market to incorporate BDCs, forex apps and retail fx dealers, and outlaw transactions in the black market

14. Digitalise Nigeria’s fx regime and discourage speculative demands and hoarding of fx in cash

15. Imposition of excise tax on foreign exchange transactions outside the official market

Great job by Taiwo Oyedele and his team of patriotic Nigerians. These are bold audacious moves by the Asiwaju Tinubu-led Federal Government. This is absolutely brilliant!

Only unpatriotic and greedy people will go buy fx to hoard and they deserve not only to lose their funds but must be prosecuted for economic sabotage as well.

This current FG will not go borrowing money or use hard-earned forex inflow to fight against the overvalued US dollar on the streets. You all will get burnt las las.

Those being deceived to keep hoarding forex will get burnt severely las las.

It's criminal and unpatriotic mindset that will make an otherwise educated person who spends almost 100% of his day to day expenses in naira to still go and hoard forex and crowd out those who genuinely need it. If they don't get burnt, no defence of the naira will deter such unpatriotic elements. Not even EFCC that Mr Emefiele kept sending after them will make them stop.
Can you properly explain what all that means? Oya what does digitalize fx transactions mean?
Not seeing anything here that adreses the fundamental issues.

In a recent social media post, singer Abuga confesses to everyone that he has crashed the Mercedes Benz that Portable bought him a few days ago.

Today, October 20, 2023, Abuga, who is signed to the portable record company “Zeh” nation, posted a video of the wrecked car on his verified Instagram page.

Singer Abuga blamed his misery on the people in his village, saying that when he took his automobile outside today, it started having problems and got wrecked.

In the video, Abuga gives thanks to God as he stresses that his enemies can’t kill him the way they killed Mohbad (Imole).
