adenigga:The statement ascribed to the CSO makes no sense. Since NNPC is the sole importer of petrol, which marketers is he referring to that benefit from the devaluation to ask for higher payments? People who don't even know the goings on in the industry just like to say nonsense, because it will sell in the papers. Same way the marketers are always saying the price of petrol will only crash when we use Nigerian crude and not imported crude!! How will it crash, when the crude will be paid for and not free. Even if petrol reduces by N70 because the freight and import duties etc are no longer there, is N70 a crash!!? |
Guyman01:I kind of agree. Whilst I'm not tribalistic and I do agree that competence shoukd reign, but the truth of the matter is that the north had been feeding fat on this nation for too long. And the annoying fact is that they are the most illiterate. If you look at the national register of most professional bodies like: Institute of Chartered Accountant of Niveria Chartered Institute of Taxation Nigerian Society of Engineers Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors Nigeria Institute of Architects Nigeria Medical Association Nigerian Dental Association And many more, you hardly find northerners there, so how come in government they are by far in the majority?? To the extent that of you go to NAPIMS, FIRS, NDIC etc they are always the bosses, while Yorubas and Igbos are doing the heavy lifting? One day I was driving past NDIC building at Nitel House on Marina at closing time, I was shocked by the number of northerners leaving the office.... In LAGOS!! How many Yorubas will you find in a government establishment in Kaduna or Kano!! How can the most illiterate part of the country dominate the rest of the country in civil service and government? It makes no sense!? If you do proper employment evaluation test for many northerners in government I cn bet you 50% will fail. Many of them enter university with 120 Jamb. Meanwhile in the SW and SE, you will score 240 and still be hustling for admission!! |
Parasolorg:They will waste everybody's time. If I'm going to work I have no time to be haggling with folks |
ijustdey:In this day and age, ASUU is expecting students to report sexual harassment in suggestion boxes!!? Instead of creating an app or webpage on the school website or platform for this. |
AlexBells:There is a lot more to having stable electricity in any state than signing Electricity Acts into Law! The state regulatory body will still have to engage with NERC and the existing DISCO, except the expectation is that brand new electricity cables will be laid everywhere! And the state will still have to find investors, who are in short supply, considering the pitfalls with investing in Nigeria. Electricity in particular is a very difficult product to control and monitor effectively. Nigeria probably has one of the largest rates of electricity theft in the world. And it remains to be seen if any Nigerian investors will go into this sector, the more technical a space, the more Nigerians run a way from it, since we are primarily traders and not business men. We don't know how to add value to stuff - only import and buy and sell is what we do best. |
wink2015:Don't be daft!! There have been several reports over the years of NAF jets bombing Boko Haram and ISWAP sites! Stop this selective memory!! |
Lukepeter:Are you minding the guy. The shallowness of Nigerian's is alarming. The lack of critical thinking and use of logic on Nairaland and other social media by Nigerians show that many are literate but few are educated. Crude that oil companies invested billions of dollars to get out of the ground and illegal refiners are stealing is what people are saying they should be allowed to operate because refineries are not working. Okay, if government builds 10 refineries and all the crude coming from the ground is stolen, that what would have been the point of building those refineries? Where will the crude to get the refineries working then come from? |

Here we go again! I recall growing up in Ibadan in the late 80's and early 90's, we had TCTC - Trans City Transport Company. Where is that one today? If we had kept that from then till now, Ibadan would have a structure for mass transit. Now we have to start all over again. And there is no guarantee the next Governor after Makinde will keep this going. If it remains in the hand of government, it will fail like a pack of cards. Best thing is for the government to create a company to manage the business with private sector. Let the cost of the buses and the bus stops and bus stations be on the balance sheet of the government, while the company set up 'leases' it from the government for free. That way the only thing the company will be responsible for is ensuring that the fees riders pay are sufficient to fund the operating costs - salaries of drivers, fuel and maintenance of the vehicles. |
softy:Its back in Lekki since last night. |
GO0DHardDick:If you read the news, especially international news, not social media, you'd know that South Africa is suffering from terrible outages which has steadily worsened in last 5 years. Based on my friend in Jbourgs load shedding schedule, the light i get in Lekki is currently is better than what he's getting.

OBIDIENTNAIJA:Its not that simplistic! Nigerian's often take the simplistic approach that doing one single thing will solve specific economic problems. Solutions to any economies issues requires a a complex interplay of various factors working in tandem. Even if we were to magically have 24hrs electricity in Nigeria, what about access to capital, efficient ports for import and export of goods and materials, a well educated and skilled workforce, good transportation networks across Nigeria, sanctity of contract, efficient judicial system , security and many more |
EleventhWeirdo:It's not ethnic coloration. Facts are just facts. Every ethnic group in Nigeria have certain facts about them. |
festacman:You are the one who's pretty dumb. Why should Donld Duke be the one to tell them how to use Tinapa. Isn't it obvious that the typical brainless and lazy politicians who don't want to work hard for their IGR, but would rather go and share money in Abuja!! Donald Duke did wonders for Cross Rivers and future dumb leaders refused to follow suit! What is DD to do? Calabar was a place slowly but surely All Nigerians were looking forward to going to for the December carnival. My first road trip as a married man in Easter 2009 from PH was to Calabar. We enjoyed it thoroughly. Going to Tinapa hotel, boat ride on the lake, lunch at Marina resort and the in the evening we went for my first ever live performance by Asa at the Studio Tinapa. The shops at the mall too were coming alive. Likewise obudu was brimming with life. Everybody wanted to go there. Now all of that is dead because of visionless governors and you blame Donald Duke!! You will forever lack vision then!! |
PrinceOfLagos:I actually agree with Lagos Assembly on the use of Yoruba. By the time market women start using it to come to island every day, it will be helpful for the old men and women to understand the instructions. |
tophempire:By going digital and computerized, one person can do what 3 people were doing before. If you go to our Ministries, you'll see how archaic they are. |
plaindealer:Well, no one can make an omelette without breaking an egg!! We all know that Nigeria's civil service is over bloated. As you saw from the recent scandal on employment, we have been running employment scams for years. |
For me its not just about wooing them back. How about paying Nigerians a livable wage that can enable them to buy one. What's the point of Volks coming back to Nigeria if no one can afford to buy their vehicles? I saw a Toyota Nigeria price list recently and Camry 2.4l was about N47mln!!! |
Acekidc4:So he should never rest because he's governor abi? He should never go on leave abi? |
The incompetence and corruption in Nigeria knows no bounds!!! |
politicoNG:How come it seems to only be LP that tribunals are upturning?? This is like the 6th in the last week or so! |
Newyorkitis:Abi o. Struggling to understand what it really means for the public.!! |
Maybe he is known male runs guy in the female Nollywood circles. I hear these days single women (and even married women) pay for men to come bang them when they are horney. |
Karemarealty288:I guess you would call this self preservation!! When bandits are in your vicinity and police/millitary are miles and miles away, the most basic thing you can do is appear to pally with the bandits. Give them what they need for self preservation. |
dre11:For the swamps of the Niger Delta, what you need are helicopters and not jet aircraft. helicopters can carry soldiers that you can easily hover over an illegal bunkering site and lower the troops down, while raining fire from above in case any illegal bunkerer tries to get trigger happy. We are not really serious about stopping this thing. if I was in charge, I would set an SLA (service level agreement) that once a bunkering site is discovered, military must be on top of them in 2 days max!! As for discovering them. it can be easily done with a combination of satellite technology and surveillance drones operating 24 hours over the Niger delta. Shey we saw a video recently of the NNPC control room, where live satellite imaging was showing the guys at various sites at work? If after 6 months, these guys realize that every time they try and re-establish in a new location, military are on top of them in a matter of days, the business will be deemed too risky and many of them will go do something else. The incidence of this illegal crude bunkering will drop dramatically. |

Simple mathematics is lacking here. Osimhen's goal per game ratio is 0.76!! |
HonNL:Natural, considering we are 200mlns plus people. |
Seun360:Red line is coming soon |
AllenSpencer:In MMA and UFC it's very difficult to maintain a world title for many years the way they do in other sports. Just one lucky lunch or kick and it's all over. |
fergie001:The girls looks like a rebel. She will soon get pregnant and end up on drugs at the rate she'd going. That USA ehn, if a child's head is not screwed on properly, tendency to derail is very high. Small time now, she will come out as gay!! |
robosky02:It will be absolutely CRAZY if Oshimhen doesn't win AFOTY!! |
Sleekfingers:I did check online and even the website of LAMATA itself is not able to provide much info https://www.lamata-ng.com/our-train/ The link above tells you to get Cowry card. Doesn't say where? How much the card costs? How to top up...nada!! The site gives schedule for only the day of inauguration what about the other days!? or are we to assume that the first train of the day is 9am!!!? Which time I go reach office? So Mr Sleekfingers who erroneously assumed I didn't and rushed to type, I DEMAND AN APOLOGY!! |
Raydos:Its a function of poverty of the people, illiteracy of the people, incompetence (from our town planners and government). It may be acceptable that some of the poor, old parts of a town remain this way. After all the core of Ibadan, which is characterized by those brown tin roofs, were in existence hundreds of years ago. So the only way to modernize such areas is to bring them down in large chunks and redevelop. However, where I weep more for Nigeria is the new areas of cities are not much better. For example, the Lekki peninsular was pretty much virgin land in the 80's and 90's. Lekki really took off in the late 90's. We had an opportunity to really plan that axis well, but as usual, we no dey get sense. https://www.nairaland.com/7550276/estate-layouts-nigeria |
