If you have a $500k house in US, your property tax will be like $4k - $6k (N2m - N3m) per year.

Same thing with those who drive luxury cars sef. Vehicle license for Range Rover (and other luxury brands) should be like N30k, while they can leave that of Toyota, Honda etc at normal N3k. Basically, tax the wealthy who live in Ikoyi, Banana, Park View etc

Do those entities have physical presence in Nigeria? No. Are they the only platforms making money from NIgerians no. What this actually translates to is that the government will be taxing virtually every website that generates income from NIgerians. If that doesn't translate to hardship for Nigerians, no problem.

The question is, why is Buhari all of a sudden interested in taxing tech companies heavily?

Because they make a lot of profit from Nigeria. If they become too many, it could also contribute to capital flight.

Be there! A lot of estates in lagos have fibre optic cable Internet that has unlimited data for like N15k. You can watch Netflix 24hrs for 1 year if you like, the data no dey finish.

And even if you don't have fibre, some others offer unlimited like Ntel and Smile!

This is dumb and unenforceable because many online companies don't have any offices in Nigeria.

Even if they did try and enforce it, the companies would just block access from Nigerian IP addresses if the stress from the government is too much.

Many of you use the Internet every day yet have no clue how it works.

It is very enforceable. Go to dubai and try to use WhatsApp to call. It will not work! Even with what ever vpn. If I'm not mistaken you can only chat with WhatsApp there, but not call. They use it to ensure visitors buy tourist sim cards which is expensive that they make money from. They certainly found a way to make WhatsApp unusable.

Big tech companies need to start paying tax seriously, especially those that have huge and massive presence in Nigeria and the financial act is crystal clear. It's high time.

Fully supported. Why should Netflix, Uber, Air Bnb, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube etc make money from Nigeria, but not pay any tax in Nigeria!? It means so much Naira will chase dollars for them to repatriate profit, which puts pressure on dollar, which the populace then suffer from. So at least the government should make something.

And why has it taken soooo long for Nigerians to have access to electricity?? why is it that things that should have been in place since the 70's are still not in place. We fail to get simple things right in this country. We are in 2021 and yet Nigeria has no structure for effective maintenance of roads. We allow them to completely spoil, before awarding contracts for reconstruction.

It is not true that 1Gb of data costs N1200. I have bought 3.5GB from Airtel for N1500. And almost 10Gb from Glo at N2500. So what is Mr VP saying.

Note that the N900m is just Revenue, not profit!! There are still costs to be paid for. Salaries, diesel etc. It might not even have made a profit if you factor in depreciation charge of the trains.

Besides, even if the N900m was full profit, that's just $2m!

A situation where 90% of forex comes from oil and oil crashes to $10, and population keeps increasing and importation keeps growing, what did we expect to happen.

The moment a large contingent of terrorists is seen approaching any military base, they should immediately radio for help and air support should be available in 30mins. Surely a chopper in Maiduguri can get to most places in borno state in 30mins.

Alternatively we should get like 4 weaponised military drones that can stay in the air for as long as 24 hours and 2 can take shifts every 24 hours to provide air support to ground forces and barracks as needed.

I think Moghalu, Sowore, durotoye, Oby etc should form a political party and try to get elected into the senate in the first instance. And then from there, we if they provide good leadership, they can plot for one of them to go forward for president in say 2030.

Cos reality is that non of them have a chance trying to vie for the presidency from scratch. In Nigeria, the you can only win if you go under the ticket of either PDP or APC. That is the unfortunate truth. We still practice money politics for the poverty stricken populace and not intellectual politics. So intellectuals will never win on that basis alone.
