annisy: If only Nigeria can be restructured Some state will compete with dubai
Be there fooling yourself! That will not happen because it just means Governors will have more money to steal.
Besides its erroneous to think what you see in dubai is built by government. A lot of what you see is also built by private capital to cater to expatriates that have been drawn in over the years by good policies.
If HSBC decides to site its Middle East operations in Dubai obviously it will need a skyscraper office space and residences for staff. If it doesn't build the office building itself, the private developers, seeing the demand will build modern office space and HSBC will lease it. Dubai of today is the result of a clear minded strategy from decades ago, faithfully implemented, that has turned dubai into an investment and entertainment hub that also attracts billions in private capital for various sectors like tourism, property, education, airline services, ports etc
What Dubai provided is infrastructure and the enabling environment to attract companies. Beyond oil operations in Akwa Ibom, mainly by Mobil, there is nothing about Akwa Ibom, South South and Nigeria that draws even local investment, not to talk of foreign investment.
Insecurity, poor infrastructure, poor quality labour force, inconsistent policies, erratic electricity. etc are not what develop countries and states
Omookunnimi: With the way our higher institutions are charging students, in the next 10years road side mechanics, artisans, market women and men will not be able to send their children to higher institutions again. God will they your hands.
This may sound harsh, but if children of such road side mechanics etc have gone to our horrible public primary and secondary school, in all liklihood they have no business being in university. Except they happen to be brilliant.
The problem with Nigeria is that we still have this outdated mindset that every single person has to go to university. That made sense in the 50's to 70's when white collar jobs were plenty.
Now the children of market women, road side mechanic etc should use their secondary education and apply it to a technical trade. That's what intro tech was supposed to be when it was introduced into the curriculum.
University education is meant to be for the brightest and best and not every riff raff.
We have commonised University, especially in the North with useless low cut off marks.
isthatso: some people pay $100k a year for University degree, you are paying 90K ($200) and you are complaining? but you will find 90k to buy phone!!! Tommorow you will graduate and wonder why your $200 degree can only land you a job as a receptionist or Dangote driver.
Exactly!! The phone and clothes undergraduates use sef pass N90k. Doubt there is a smartphone less than N40k now. And they will always buy credit throughout the year, but N90k for education is unacceptable!!
I came here to report a very big problem that should be addressed by the school authority or the state Government. School resumption is slated for 10th May for returning students and I just went to my portal now to pay my fees . What I saw was far from shocking as the school has added ridiculous fees to milk the student community dry What is portal access fee Sports fee I can't get my hand on all the screenshot but this is bad for struggling students. My total school fees is now 90k This is unacceptable
I don't think N90k fees is unacceptable when you think of what N90k will buy you in the open market. Yet you expect to get N500k a month job in Bank or N1mln in oil company. If you want cheap N20k education, bthrn you should be willing to take minimum wage.
Funny enough, you all will complain that this in unacceptable but still go and pay £20k for masters abroad.
Risingblue008: Can u afford to pay the health workers? Not just opening or launching whtever whatever Cos d ones wey dey onboard,,,how far?
Exactly. The building is actually the easy part. The hard part is equipping it properly with both quality staff and hospital equipment and then ensuring it runs effectively, efficiently and sustainably.
Insecurity: Nigerians Tackle Senator Remi Tinubu For Tackling Senator Smart Adeyemi; Say She Will Never Be The First Lady Of Nigeria
Angry Nigerian social media users have slammed Tinubu's wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu for tackling Senator Smart Adeyemi who boldly 'scattered' the National Assembly with his emotional speech.
For trying to shut Senator Smart Adeyemi's mouth, some Nigerians have blasted Remi Tinubu, saying that she 'can never be the first lady of Nigeria'.
Here are some comments slamming the ex Lagos State First Lady:
Unu Amaro Kam Siri Kwado @AfamDeluxo wrote: "Imagine if Remi Tinubu becomes first lady, omo, some of us will be chased away from planet earth. A tall horrible woman. A bigot. A cretin. Same woman that bashed Ndiigbo during the last election."
IFA FUNSHO @funshographix wrote: "Remi Tinubu is not preparing to be first lady. She just don't have sense. The name Nigeria will not even exist before 2023. Smart Adeyemi is already linking the information of everyone should go their separate ways.
Nigeria will divide before 2023." theonly1acre @theonly1acre wrote: "Are you a Wolf in Sheep clothing??”
Remi Tinubu wants to be First Lady at the expense of the Drop of blood of innocent Nigerians.
What do you think about Remi Tinubu Vs Smart Adeyemi Saga?
Personally I feel Buhari is going to snooker Tinubu! He will likely support someone from the North instead of Tinubu. And Tinubu cannot win without Buhari's northern base.
Buhari should be impeached! I am surprised that no one has brought this up. Buhari has failed miserably in his constitutional responsibility of securing this country from all threats, foreign and domestic!
The economy is in its worst shape EVER. Buhari has crashed vale of Naira from $/N200 to $/N485 all within 6years. Never before have we had such a useless, incompetent President. I make bold to say that Abacha was better than Buhari in most areas, except perhaps stealing of money.
Nigeria is on FIRE!! And an implosion may occur soon.
At the rate BH and insurgents are going, they will soon overrun Abuja and then the Presidency will move back to Lagos.
spyder880: The conference centre is actually very beautiful and I pass through this road regularly. I was marvelled when I passed this Thursday evening. I might stop and get some pictures next time I pass.
Really!! Your call that beautiful!? Very poor architecture of you ask me.
Nothing overly fancy or expensive. I see a hummer, a 2015 Cls and an old looking g wagon. All of them are likely to have been bought as tokunbo. If he really has money he should be driving brand new range rover and Bentley like Linda.
Anthony0094: Everybody is avoiding Nigeria lyk plague
Thanks to our darling daddy
Because we actually ARE a plague!! Whether you like it or not:
No electricity No pipe borne water Urban development is a shambles Roads are a mess Ports are a mess No rail network Airlines cannot survive Airports are barely surviving Insecurity (kidnapping, herdsmen, armed robbers, areas boys, cultists) Poverty capital of the world Highest number of out of school children Healthcare is a shambles
While I do not necessarily dispute the activities of these Fulani herdsmen and their destructive impact on farms, but why do we never see videos to back up these articles that always talk of how huge farms were totally destroyed. 300 acres is no joke na!! If indeed the entire this was destroyed and this happens on a very regular basis, how come there are never any videos of this occurring. Whilst herdsmen might be violent if being recorded while present on a farm, it could be done from a far distance.
I wonder if some of these articles or instances of herdsmen doing this or that to farms are not fake. In this generation of fake everything, one has to be careful.
tunwumi: He was unsettled by Covid and End SARS protest but he's focused and working gradually.
This is a different ball game.
Indeed! I tell people, the easiest place to govern is a State. Usually the state assembly is in your pocket and because a state is a bit small, its easier to ensure things are done well across the state.
Governing Nigeria on the other hand is a different kettle of fish. It's a lot more complicated, with more forces jostling for resources and relevance. And it's very difficult for the center to manage the affairs going on in 36 very distinct states.
I've always said that we need 36 good governors more than 1 good president.
TMKsouth: University of Cape Town on Sunday, 18 April 2021
The University of Cape Town (UCT) says all students on its main campus were being evacuated by emergency services support staff on Sunday as a runaway wildfire spread onto the campus grounds.
In a statement, after the outbreak of a fire which gutted a section of the Rhodes Memorial restaurant, UCT said students were taken to predetermined locations.
UCT spokesperson Elijah Moholola said reports that the university was evacuating hydrogen tanks from its science labs could not be confirmed.
“We don’t have any info at this point and won't be getting it any moment soon as teams are working at various aspects of containing the fire. As soon as we are able to share further info, we will do so and respond to specific questions,” he said.
Visuals of UCT students leaving their residences flooded social media with many Cape Town residents offering affected students transport, food and assistance.
The vegetation fire started just above Philip Kgosana Drive on Table Mountain and was soon being fought by three helicopters water-bombing from the air in aid of firefighting crews on the ground from the City of Cape Town, Working on Fire, and Table Mountain National Park.
Several people taking videos of the fire while hiking on the mountain slopes behind Table Mountain described the speed at which the fire was moving.
Videos appeared to show the fire already having reached the University of Cape Town grounds by midday as students evacuated across sports fields under a blanket of thick smoke.
If it were to be Nigeria we wouldn't even have the helicopters with which to attack the fire from the air. The water trucks would arrive at the scene with only water they can physically carry and then when it runs out in 30mins, they would stand around helplessly while the fire rages - since we don't have fire hydrants anywhere in Nigeria (except maybe Abuja)
galaxylauncher: Test Flight To Land At Anambra International Passenger And Cargo Airport April 30, 2021
A fascinating development that restores hope in political leadership in Anambra, the state that prides itself as "Light of the Nation."
This is a truly international airport with 3.7km runway and tallest control tower that will serve the international and local air travel needs of Anambra and indeed the entire southeast region and beyond.
The governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano and his wife, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano were at the airport on Saturday, April 17, 2021 on inspection. They were accompanied by members of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council who wanted to confirm what they had been hearing in the media.
Okija, Anambra-born businessman Dr. Ernest Obiejesi (Obijackson) was also at the airport and landed in the brand new airport tarmac in his helicopter.
Not a bad terminal building. Relatively simple and should get the job done.
Still not fully convinced Anambra needs an airport. South East is relatively small and distances between other places that have airports (Owerri, Enugu, Asaba) and Anambra is relatively short.
Anyway, I hope it functions properly without further government support once operational. What will be disappointing is that when it starts, Amambra state government has to now pay 80% of the salaries and other maintenance costs monthly, further reducing available funds for development in other areas. As a state government, if a project cannot generate positive operational cash flows on its own, it should not be executed.
lekki1444: however the bigger picture is that america never used to drill its own environments for oil but now it has started drilling its own environment for oil and so they no longer need to get oil from nigeria and couple that with the fact that the biggest oil refinery in the world is being built in nigeria and will be functional this year so it is no longer viable for them to be here anymore. the new emerging superpower is nigeria and in the future all countries will bring their oil to nigeria to be refined. there is a transfer of global wealth happening and a reversal of fortunes. africa is emerging and so it is no longer viable for the west to be in africa again. its cheaper for them to look for oil in their own backyard now. Also many local nigerians are taking over the drilling game in nigeria and so the competition is stiff.
owobokiri: My anger is that shell and other socalled oil majors are busy selling off oil blocks given to them by the federal government to develop to other oil exploration companies, whimsically, as if those OPL belongs to them! They have made billions of dollars this way and the fact that the federal government stands hands akimbo, doing nothing to stop this generational heist is simply stunning!
The oil wells belong to the country and not the oil companies! If they want to elope with the much they have already looted(we always hear they want to divest and run away, but they're always here to suck us dry), they can do so without auctioning off the countrys oil resources to the highest bidders and pocketing the money while living the Niger Delta as the most polluted place on planet earth! It's Evil! The height of economic terrorism..
The oil companies sell their stake in the development of those oil blocks. If over 30 years I have contributed my 40% equity cash call then I am entitled to sell same equity to another company if I choose to move on.
Oil is the mainstay of our economy, yet most Nigerians have no real clue how the industry operates.
Enugu is a very nice, peaceful town, with good residential areas. It is a classic example of an old regional capital and civil service town, such as Ibadan and Kaduna.
If I were an Easterner, Enugu would probably be my best town to have a country home.
Unfortunately asides, Lagos and maybe Abuja, pretty much all Nigeran cities are not cosmopolitan enough for me. I grew up in Ibadan and I struggle to think what I would find to entertain myself in Ibadan if I moved back there to retire.
Roads? Is that why his cement is so expensive? No.
Cost of producing yours own electricity will almost always be more than the grid.
Is like you have not seen Nigerian roads sha? Talk to abokis who drive trailer from North to South and let them tell you. Sometimes trucks stay days in one spot and food items perish.
All of that inefficiency is factored into our local price. Plus police for road, area boys to enter market, and OPC and egbesu boys etc
What do you think about this? Do you agree with him?
Totally agree! Nigeria is the most confused country in the world. 5 people from government will talk about an issue in a week and all 5 will speak in different directions. We say A, but do B, ask for C, then say D is actually right, but condemn E.
