Kubernetes: May be they did that because you have enough money in hundreds of billions going to the host communities from
1. Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs 2. Niger Delta dev com. 3. Monthly 13% derivation 4.. Etc and etc
The last time I read was when over #88billion was stolen in NNDC Exactly. There is already 3% Nddc levy on the budget of oil companies. Across the industry this will be close to $400mln per year. And now 3% of opex has been added again. That's already 6% that should be for communities. Asides this, the oil companies do GMoU projects where they give money to the communities and they decide what project they want to execute by themselves, but as usual those 'representing' the communities have other ideas . SAME will likely happen to this host community 3%. First communities will argue amongst themselves about who is host or not, and which will become communal clashes and attacks. Just wait and see. Nigerians loose all sense of civility when moneybis concerned. |

OmoManU: But definitely the cost and logistics of taking it abroad to refine and bringing it back to the country for final consumption would have been eliminated thereby reducing lots of added costs that made it expensive in the first place, also....If crude is being sold at $70, there are still over 20 other products that are being generated from crude not only petrol, so all that properly factored in will def not make the product too expensive Yes I understand what you mean, but my point is that those are not overly significant. Maybe those have a N30-50 impact. The main cost drivers are price of crude and cost of refinery operations, which will be fairly same everywhere. Maybe Dangote refinery operations cost may be a bit cheaper cos the refinery is new and modern and staff will be paid less than foreign counterparts. Then again, operating in Nigeria has added costs in other areas that abroad doesn't have. As for Shipping, its fairly cheap these days. |
Politics › Re: 10 Things To Know About Nigeria’s Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB by COMPAQ(m): 7:06am On Jul 02, 2021 |
OmoManU: Do you want them to sell fuel at 260-300 and people call for their head again, subsidy can not be removed if the refineries are not working Refineries working doesn't guarantee that petrol will be cheaper than those prices! Subsidy is a conscious economic decision and has little to do with where the refinery is located. If crude oil is $70, it is worth $70 everywhere ,including Nigeria. |

A305: I understand this is capitalism but Dangote is GREEDY.
He is yet to understand that; A capitalist in the capitalist economy can NEVER be too RICH than the government of that economy.
Wealth is another term for power and the amount of wealth in your possession determines the amount of power you have, but you can NEVER be POWERFUL than the government in the state. The government of the state is so powerful that; it can take her citizen life at will and no one can do anything about it otherwise, you will persecuted for treason against the government and locked away or even killed. Let's get back to capitalism:
You cannot be too rich or powerful than the government. A case scenario was John D. Rockefeller.
Rockefeller was richer than the U.S government (not the today's Bill Gates and Zuckerburg money but long and strong oil money). The U.S. government realising how powerful Rockefeller was becoming due to his money now had to force him to break up and split his company (standard oil) to different companies (Shell, Total, Chevron etc), and these companies will be owned by share holders.
This is the same thing the Nigeria government (NNPC) is trying to broker with Dangote but GREED is not making him think clear or he is clearly ignorant of history. Or probably want to be powerful than the Nigeria government. Dude, Standard Oil never became Shell or Total because those are Dutch and French companies respectively. |

Biafrannuke: For them it's always about oil
The same poverty ridden clowns that cried about burnt onions for one month! It just shows the lazy mindset of the North. They want to be like Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait etc where they can sit back and do nothing and money rolls in. What they don't know is that those countries above have a lot of brain power as well, otherwise their countries wouldn't be that good. If you throw $1trillion at the North for next 10years there will still be massive poverty in the North because they will not build schools, hospitals or other infrastructure. The oligarchs in the North will corrupt it all and share it all among themselves and go and buy villas in Dubai. |

Until Nigeria become an enabling environment, the focus should be on bringing these tech giants into Nigeria so that they can support other tech businesses, create jobs, and invest in technology. COMPAQ: I actuly support that. If Linda Ikeji blog makes so much money to the extent of being able to buy that house then she should certainly pay tax!!
If I be LIRS chairman ehn. How is someone who buys N400m House in Nicon Town complaining about N100k land use charge!? Left for me, so they should pay like N1m per annum.
If you have a $500k house in US, your property tax will be like $4k - $6k (N2m - N3m) per year. Same thing with those who drive luxury cars sef. Vehicle license for Range Rover (and other luxury brands) should be like N30k, while they can leave that of Toyota, Honda etc at normal N3k. Basically, tax the wealthy who live in Ikoyi, Banana, Park View etc |

traihit: What are you insinuating?
Do those entities have physical presence in Nigeria? No. Are they the only platforms making money from NIgerians no. What this actually translates to is that the government will be taxing virtually every website that generates income from NIgerians. If that doesn't translate to hardship for Nigerians, no problem.
The question is, why is Buhari all of a sudden interested in taxing tech companies heavily? Because they make a lot of profit from Nigeria. If they become too many, it could also contribute to capital flight. |

Theunbothered: This is dumb and unenforceable because many online companies don't have any offices in Nigeria.
Even if they did try and enforce it, the companies would just block access from Nigerian IP addresses if the stress from the government is too much.
Many of you use the Internet every day yet have no clue how it works. It is very enforceable. Go to dubai and try to use WhatsApp to call. It will not work! Even with what ever vpn. If I'm not mistaken you can only chat with WhatsApp there, but not call. They use it to ensure visitors buy tourist sim cards which is expensive that they make money from. They certainly found a way to make WhatsApp unusable. |

TheRareGem1: Big tech companies need to start paying tax seriously, especially those that have huge and massive presence in Nigeria and the financial act is crystal clear. It's high time. Fully supported. Why should Netflix, Uber, Air Bnb, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube etc make money from Nigeria, but not pay any tax in Nigeria!? It means so much Naira will chase dollars for them to repatriate profit, which puts pressure on dollar, which the populace then suffer from. So at least the government should make something. |

Note that the N900m is just Revenue, not profit!! There are still costs to be paid for. Salaries, diesel etc. It might not even have made a profit if you factor in depreciation charge of the trains.
Besides, even if the N900m was full profit, that's just $2m! |

Bottom line, if you want to go far in life, don't listen to the noise of the multitude, especially if they are as unpleasable as Nlders I tell you!
