Even at US$ 35.9 million which is equivalent to N 14 billion, that 1.5km bridge is overpriced. Haba!

Nepal-India 1.5km bridge was estimated at US$24.8 million and you can bet the quality woukd be higher than ours.

https://www.worldhighways.com/wh8/news/nepal-india-bridge-project-planned

In South Africa it costs R 3.5 million per kilometer to construct roads that are much better than ours. That is approximately N 97.5 million. However in Nigeria, a 1.5 km road is contructed at over N 200 million!!!

Even in infrastructure developments, the country is still being stolen blind.
Road and bridge na the same thing?

Sex for grades is even too much. Go to the Uber and Taxify thread and see where Lekki girls are offering sex to pay for trips of 1,200 and 1,500.

Sex is the cheapest thing a lady can offer a man and any man who demands sex for anything from a lady is a big fool.
You don't mean it!!! Common Uber fare? Na wa o!!

How does a student offering sex equate lecturer threatening to deny you your actual score if you don't sleep with him?
Except in movies, I've never seen this happening in reality.

If you put a yam outside and a passing goat chop it, will it be realistic for you to go after the goat, knowing well enough goat didn't come into your apartment to chop the yam..?

These girls don't only fvck lecturers to pass... They'll fvck a doctor so as not to be paying for health services... They'll fvck a landlord so as not for them not to pay rent... They'll fvck a uber man so as not to be paying for transports...

Same girls, whenever they want to report to you.. They'll be like;'
Lecturer is demanding for sex or she'll fail
landlord is demanding for sex cuz she's owing rent
Uber man is demanding for sex cuz she wanted to transport somewhere and she has no cash

These girls, stories and forming victims are like 5&6..

You can't blame a man for accepting sex advances from any lady, just as you can't blame any lady for collecting free money from any man..
It's a bit unfair to make it only seem like one way traffic! While there are a lot of girls that will go and throw themselves at lecturers for marks, there are also a lot of male lecturers that will harass babes into sex on the premise of failing them. Of course, they know the types of babes to target and call for discussion. There is no statistic to say who does it more, but if you ask me, i really do think it's the babes who do it more because many of them are runs girls for money anyway! So banging lecturer for marks is just an extension of the trade.

I knew one of them that passed through that way. She was in unizik but always in Lagos only for her to submit pussy to pass.
She got graduated and began to look for job. This lady kept failing interviews to the point that even local factories couldn't employ her lol.
Eventually she will use sex to get a job and surprise, surprise she will use sex to do well in the job, especially if its marketing and become many intelligent people boss.

I hear there was this popular senior babe in Zenith bank that was dating the then CBN Governor. This was like 15years ago. On basis of that relationship, she was able to get so many big accounts that this babe was being promoted like every year. In some years sef, she got double promotion. From Entry level to DM in like 3 years.

1.5km bridge for $36m??
Why is that so hard to believe? That's just N14bln at N400 exchange rate. I use that rate because contract was awarded a while back.

Eleme flyover in PH was done at N7bln by Celestine Omehia in 2007 or so, when dollar was N199. How much are each of Wike's flyovers in PH.

Meanwhile the Nigeria Cameroon bridge is being constructed in a relatively isolated part of the country, which will make it hard to mobilise equipment and deliver materials.

I'm surprised you would say that. Computer science is now a very broad term, but there are many sub levels of computer science you should be able to profit from if you are good such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and development of games, data science, development of apps, coding, photo and video editing etc

The opportunities from comp science are larger than most courses, but of course if you are learning the course in Nigeria in an outdated fashion, then you just have to be naturally good or you won't even see head or tail of howbeit can benefit you.

I'm on oyedepo's side on this. I took same bold step but never regretted it. I'm an embodiment of God's favour and grace. Shebi we go the America sef, but I chose to return home after my program. I don't know if the highest earning Nigerian living overseas can match me in revenues monthly. I give them money each time I go America. Ordinary 100 dollar is like giving them millions. I had shared stories of my life and that of my uncle who used to work at Walmart in the past as stores officer. He shunned the flashy lifestyles over there and came back home, to introduce a solar inverter manufactured by trace engineering, USA which later became Xantrex. His friends booed him, they said village people had come calling, that he's been bewitched. This man today is a billionaire. He had a major leap in his business when the atm revolution erupted in Nigeria, he became favourite of old generation banks including the CBN for installation of inverters to power all their atms nationwide. Na foreigners like Indians for chop the whole money clean mouth, come pay our graduates employed with peanut.

Nigeria is a land of honey and milk. Na those in government God go punish for discouraging foreign investors from coming in through their selfish ends. Where I've stepped my feet into, none of our leaders' children had had the opportunity to reach, in their entire life. I've been with Barak Obama, courtesy my profession in DAR Hall( Daughters of American Revolution Hall) near the white House in DC.

Do we have challenges? Yes, we do. Are they surmoutable? Yes they are. Buhari can't be in government forever. If pool comes to shove, we break up and we bear our fathers' names . We can still work together as neighbours in areas where each has a comparative advantage. I have a friend who had his masters and PhD in a university in NC, where he lives. Recently, I saw him posting tokunbo cars on his status for sale...an associate Prof selling used cars...what a life! Back home he'd be an oga in one of our universities where his service would be appreciated.
Besides the guy selling the inverter thing would never have got to that stage if he had never traveled abroad in the first place. If he had stayed back, then that opportunity would likely never had come. He would never have had the contact with that American company and with poor salary in Nigeria he'd likely not have the capital to do that business. So going to America is what helped him.

We both know he's probably better paid than most of his old mates who are languishing in abject poverty elsewhere.
For every successful Nigerian there's like 10 abject failures. We're talking of a country where the minimum wage is 33k naira.

How many Nigerians have a high living standard?
Very meagre percentage.
Indeed, and the guys last paragraph is weird. So is it a bad thing for the Professor in NC to have a side hustle selling cars? Lots of Americans have side hustles to earn extra income. And trust me a professor in America is much more appreciated than being in OSU or even Unilag with salary of N250k, where you are forced to make ends.meet by doing things against your conscience like selling handouts and being settled for Marks.

Super Tucano is not world war 2 plane. It has an oldish design, but has relatively modern avionics. And it's the avionics that matters. It is designed for theatres of operations where the threat against it is relatively low, such as insurgency, border patrol, maritime security etc. That also keeps the cost down. It is not meant to be a air superiority or tactical fighter going up against f35, f22, su27 etc. THAT IS NOT THE PURPOSE. Aircraft are designed for their purpose and the design of the Tucano meets that purpose.

You're asking me if Nigeria is rich. Is NK rich?

NK's gdp isn't upto $150b,neither is its gnp.
There are many European countries that produce that aren't as rich as Nigeria in terms of GDP. Why those European countries seem to be very rich is because they have small populations and also use their money judiciously unlike Nigeria.

Wait, you think if Nigerian scientists/engineers could approach the government and present solid plans to build military hardware and software with prices better than the ones being spent to purchase from other countries the fg wouldn't fund them?

Nigerian scientists and engineers are useless, period.
So for your mind Nigerian government has interest in anything other than their selfish interests and lining their pockets? If Jesus himself provided Buhari with a plan to make Nigeria like UK in 10years, FG would throw that plan in the gutter and steal the money.

Botoom line though. Nigerias problems are many and they are all interconnected:

Financially Poor country
Corrupt government
Very poorly skilled manpower
Poor infrastructure (ports, roads, electricity, airports, etc)
Bloated civil service
Useless judiciary

It's not about solving one of these, but solving them all so that the country can begin to function properly.

We don't have the money and economy to spend too much on military hardware when we are the poverty capital of the world.

The highest priority of Nigeria right now should be eradicating poverty and curbing it, everything else will fall in place as our economy grows stronger.
Most Nigerians don't realise how poor Nigeria really is. We are blinded by this old notion of oil wealth. $60 oil today is not valuable as $20 oil in the 70's due to inflation and loss of purchasing power of the dollar and cost of construction. A dam that cost say $100m on 1970 will cost like $1bln today. Also our population has grown so large that its more difficult for the money to go around. Also we have more states now, so we spend much more on salaries and administration and have less to spend on development.

Done countries earn more dollars exporting flowers and coffee than Nigeria earns from oil.

Deal with the issues separately.

From an economic standpoint, subsidies should be removed. How can we be spending N1trl to subsidise petrol for big men with 3 cars moving around daily. One for Oga, madam and school runs, when FG revenue is just about N6trn.

Dealing with corruption in government is then another issue that should be dealt with. Citizens should shine their eyes. All the corruption is done in conjunction with civil servants and none of them blows the whistle or does anything about it cos they also want their share of it.

if we talk about masses, masses use Kerosene which has been deregulated for almost 3years now. In fact using gas has become cheaper and easier and many are switching. For transport of goods, 99% of vehicles that transport goods across the country use diesel which has also been deregulated for 15+years now and has gone from 150 in June 2020 to 290 now. That is part of why foodstuffs have also been increasing.

So who benefits from the so called subsidyhuh
PoliticsRe: PMB Pledges To Accord Railway Infrastructure Development Greatest Priority by COMPAQ(m): 1:01pm On Jul 16, 2021
presidency:
President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday in Kano pledged that his administration will continue to accord railway infrastructure development the greatest priority, describing rail transportation as a potent economic driver.

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony of Kaduna– Kano segment of the Lagos– Kano railway modernization project, the President said the take-off of construction activities on this segment of the Lagos– Kano vividly represents the commitment of the Federal Government in the revival of the country’s railway system.

''The ground breaking ceremony for Kano - Kaduna segment of the Lagos – Kano railway modernization project signifies an important milestone of the construction of the third segment, having completed and commenced commercial operation on the first segment Abuja–Kaduna and recently the second segment Lagos-Ibadan.

''This project is crucial to the establishment of a supply chain in railway transport within its corridor, Kano –Kaduna-Abuja, as it links the major commercial cities of Kano and Kaduna to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

''Upon completion, Kaduna-Kano railway project is to link the Lagos–Ibadan Railway project via Abuja, Minna, Ilorin, Oshogbo, Ibadan to Lagos on one end, and Maradi, Niger Republic on the other.

''This railway connection when completed will establish the ports in Lagos, as the choice for import and export business of the people of landlocked Niger Republic.

''This would positively drive our economies through employment from new business opportunities and wealth creation,'' he said.

On financing for the project, the President expressed confidence that the Federal Ministry of Transportation and Ministry of Finance were working to engage co-financiers to conclude financial agreements for the development of the Ibadan–Kano line and to further increase the bankability of the project.

He further explained that the railway line would be linked to the second Port in Lagos, the Tin Can Island Port.

He added that it is also expected that the Inland Dry Port on these routes will be activated with the ports receiving imports directly from the international market as ports of destination such as the Ibadan, Kaduna and Kano Inland Dry Ports.

The President commended the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, the Ministry and other project implementation partners that are contributing to this national effort of railway infrastructure development.

He noted that under this administration several landmarks have been achieved, beginning from the flag-off for commercial operation of Abuja – Kaduna railway in 2016 to the recent commissioning of the Lagos – Ibadan railway project on June 10 2021, thereby maintaining the pace for the actualization of this vital thoroughfare.

In his remarks, Amaechi thanked the President for the strong will in driving the overhaul of Nigeria’s moribund railway transport subsector.

He assured the President that the Transport ministry would remain committed to his vision for a strong and sustainable railway transportation backbone to engender and facilitate a new path to positive economic transformation of the country.

Highlighting some features of the project, the Minister explained the rail line is also provided with accessories and special installations including power and water supply schemes, signalling system and communication in GSM-R, freight yards, rolling stock depots and maintenance workshops.

He announced that the Ministry has finalized plans to commence construction of the remaining addendum of Ibadan-Abuja to complete the entire stretch of the Lagos-Kano Railway modernization project.

At the ground breaking ceremony at Zawaciki, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State, President Buhari was joined by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State, Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State and Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State.

While in Kano, the President also commissioned Dangi Underpass built by the Kano State Government.

While the developments in the rail sector are good, I am not convinced that this is best use of the funds that we have deployed to execute them. Perhaps focusing on power might have been a much better investment. A $1.5bln loan to fund Lagos-Ibadan rail could also fund say 4 250MW solar power plants in say Kwara, Nassarawa, Niger and FCT. And these will be plants with no excuse to perform optimally because they will not need any fuel source other than the sun, which no one can take away.

It could be argued that having 24hr electricity is more valuable in the long run for Nigerians/ Nigeria than the train services. I will need electricity everyday at home and at work, yet my use of the train will be very limited. What if I'm going to Benin, Akure, Shagamu, Ijebu Ode from Lagos? The train is of no value to me.

Even the real power of the train is yet to be harnessed, which is for freight purposes. That is where the money really is. Not from passenger services. Passenger service trains are hardly profitable anywhere in the world.
