Nigerian top Stars tend to disappear once their careers come to an end. Is because they are not well read or what?

When I look at the circle of English players after they hang their boat it is either coaching, punditry or management. Look at Lampard, Check, Gerard, Gigs, Roney... the list is endless.

Why black players no the make am?

Where is Eto, Drogba, Yaya, Kanu, Jay Jay Diof, Fish... the list is endless

Kai this life no balance even at the top!!!
You are right. Its mostly due to poor education. But Jay Jay is doing well with Super sport though.

Pay as you go is good like prepaid meter.
Is it DTSV problem there is no light? Nigerians love chasing shadows and scapegoats instead of facing who is causing their issue.

Same way indigenes in Niger Delta blame IOC's for lack of road, water, education, electricity. And yet, we are supposed to have LG, SG, FG and NDDC. But nobody faces them.

Some people are anti progressive... Black man mentality.
It is not black man mentality anything. It is simple economics. Nigerians love to bury head in sand sha. 1 year ago $/NGN was 360, but now its 460 (interbank), yet you expect a company that pays USD to Disney, Paramount etc for content to charge the same thinghuh?? In 2020, diesel was as low as N155, now its N290, but you think costs can reducehuh

Yet you will be there expecting your company to increase salary because cost of living is going up! It is that lack of rationality and economic sense mentality that is more of the problem.

Bros I see many people bashing you here and I don't blame them. You gave them no option with this your comment. How can you say government can't regulate a company because it's private? Do you know how many government licences and approvals DStv had to obtain to operate in Nigeria? So what will you say about mtn, glo and co that are also privately owned but being heavily regulated by NCC?
Secondly, your comment also shows gross insensitivity. The national assembly has for once passed a bill that will help alleviate sufferings of the masses and you're here criticising it with ill informed analysis?
First of all the real masses do not watch DSTV. Anyone who pays even N5000 bouquet of DSTV a month cannot be called masses.

If NASS cannot regulate price of foodstuffs in the market that are killing Nigerians and putting them into poverty, or regulate the insecurity in the land, then why regulate DSTV of all things.

How is Naira depreciation not an issue?

You transferred USD1m (NGN360,000,000) in 2020 at NGN360 to USD1.00 from your Bank in New York to your UBA account in Nigeria for business.

Fast forward to 2021 the principal amount NGN360,000,000 now is USD720,000 (@NGN500 = USD1.00) that's 28% loss on the PPP value of the Naira.

To repatriate the USD1m you must have done business worth NGN500,000,000 which is NGN140,000,000 (38% ROI) over and above the initial principal amount.

Tell me how is that attractive as an investor whether local or foreign?

How is the professor talking rubbish and you are the one making sense?
You dey mind am!!??

The professor is talking nonsense, saying things like inefficient power supply, naira depreciation and increased cost of production that is why no body is investing , the same nonsense he has been telling his students since 1989.

the Director-General of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr Chijioke Ekechukwu, made some very good point than the professor.

The main issue why nvestors are not investing is mainly security and not naira depreciation, naira depreciation makes foreign investors buy assets for very cheap. Cosy of labour is very cheap in Nigeria, compared to other places and big companies do economics of scale to recoup all their investments.
Depreciation is a factor. It means NGN profits in the years to come will be worth much less in dollar terms when they have to report earnings in their home country.

N50bln profit today @500 is $100mln. In 5years N80mln profit @1000 is $80mln. So in $ reporting terms, are they making progress or going backwards.

This country will never develop untill Nigerians solve there problems by themselves!.....CCECC engineers are human being,we are human beings too.Nigerian students have beaten them in international competitions on several occasions. If we can beat them in football and music we can beat them in technology too.We should stop feeling inferior unnecessarily. It always pain me that we Nigerians can't just decide to create a better country for ourselves!

As sophisticated Oshodi bus stop interchange is,it was constructed by a local contractor.
It's not a matter of FEELING inferior. We are actually inferior because we do not have the proper structures, resources, processes, governance etc to become superior! There is no magic to national excellence. It takes hard work, dedication, planning, investing properly and many more - none of which we do well in Nigeria as is evidenced by our educational system, health care, infrastructure etc. We have

I am a proud Nigerian, and but I will not allow that to cloud my judgement of what is quality. The Oshodi interchange you reference is okay, but is far from world class construction. If you look at the quality of the metal works that forms the walkway between the terminals and compare with metal works at airports abroad, you will know.

I'm sure you saw the video of the gutter project on Edo state handled by Nigerians! Those are the type of contractors you want to give the job to abi?

Common bricklayer, plastering, Pop ceiling works in lagos now is been done mainly by Togo, Benin people if you want it done well, because Nigerian artisans do shoddy work and charge more. But you say we are not inferior! Until our mindset towards quality changes even at the lowest level, we ain't going anywhere as a nation.

This is why things don't work in Nigeria! So it's Mr president that has to approve purchase of spares for the railway company and not the MD of NRC! This approval might take 10 months to be secured, yet if it were a private company this approval could be secured in 2 days.

Left to me, the NRC should be incorporated as a limited liability company and should be made to survive and pay salaries from its revenue. The article says there has been no salary increase in 10 to 15 years. The question is what work have these staff been doing in that period since Nigeria had zero trains!?

DSTV compact in SA costs 11,710 naira. In Nigeria, it is N7900 per month for example.
People no dey gree understand o. They will come for you very soon, when all it requires is a google search. Argument will be that is minimum wage same as those places, but is that DSTV fault? Does the inability of the government to pay its workers a fair wage reduce the cost to DSTV of providing the service?

There are two sides to every story. No one has heard the DSTV side of the story, yet we are castigating the company. How many of us castigating willingly pay tax sef, if not deducted at source as part of PAYEE.

I know full well that often times, people in government who have no clue of the terms of agreements signed etc, cry blue murder only to investigate deeper and find things are not as they seem. This has happened soooo many time in the oil sector with sensational claims of IOC's owe $30bln and this and that and they usually end up being false, because our unlearned senators and govt officials dont even understand the agreements that were signed.

In other words, the real problem here is the unwillingness of the Nigerian government to allow power companies to charge realistic tariffs that will justify their investments. Only in a basketcase like Nigeria does the fact that price controls cause shortages come across as rocket-science.
As far as I'm aware the current N57 per kwh is not a bad tarrif. At N500/$, that's about $0.114 (11.4 cents) per kwh, which is about what I pay in Houston, though admittedly it can be as high as 28cents in other states. The other main challenge is getting users to pay. And not just individuals, but also government parastatals and agencies, that would like to use and not pay like Police and Army.

https://www.electricchoice.com/electricity-prices-by-state/

Nigerians like to make noise about 24hr power, but the truth is that 80+% can't pay the bills associated with 24hr power, cos it would mean you fridge and freezer are on always, except one now has to start doing on and off schedule for fridge and freezer to manage cost, but then what would be the point of having it.

presidency:
Your Excellency Mr. President, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of my colleague, the Honourable Minister of State for Works and Housing, Engineer Abubakar D. Aliyu, the serving and previous Permanent Secretaries, serving and previous directors and members of staff of the Ministry of Works and Housing, I am delighted to welcome you to this commissioning ceremony.

This project was approved by the Federal Executive Council on the 20th March 2019 at the time when the Ministry of Power was part of Works and Housing. I express our Ministry's appreciation to members of the Federal Executive Council who voted to entrust our Ministry with this project.
What we have delivered, based on the mandate of the Federal Executive Council, is a 1.52 MegaWatts Solar System that will provide uninterrupted power supply to 5 blocks housing the Ministry of Works and Housing and Ministry of Environment and Lands.

This project employed 382 artisans and 176 skilled workers throughout its duration, in fulfilment of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) of creating jobs.

It would see to the reduction of average diesel consumption from 764,248 litres per annum to 166,825 litres per annum and cost saving of NGN270,945,000 over 20 years and contribute towards the reduction of government operational expenses and reduction of recurrent expenditure.

It has led to the upgrade and retrofitting of our electrical appliances by replacing 400 old Air-conditioning units with 400 new inverter-based energy efficient Air-conditioning units and replacing 2600 old light fittings with energy efficient LED ones all of which are energy saving because they consume 40% less energy.

In terms of local content...
Our contract engages 5 (Five) STEM candidates to work throughout the solar PV lifecycle of this project in the following roles:
a. Two (2) candidates got trained in engineering design;
b. Two (2) candidates got trained in project construction;
c. One candidate got trained in engineering project management.

With this investment we have built our own Mini-Grid, in consonance with our Administration’s policy to promote off grid option, thereby making more of the on-grid power available to ordinary Nigerians who cannot afford the cost of investing in off-grid power.
To our contractor, I express deep appreciation for the efficient execution and more importantly for the sacrifice to complete this project in spite of the wide disparity between the foreign exchange rates in 2019 when the project was awarded and now, notwithstanding high importation costs of the parts.

Permit me sir, to also acknowledge two young people who were part of this project at different stages from inception to completion.

Mrs. Damilola Ogunbiyi and Engr. Femi Akinyelure, whom your Excellency appointed to the Rural Electrification Agency both of whom, with their colleagues, were involved in the energy audit and design of this project.

They represent the positive impact of youth involvement in public service; and of course, I cannot forget Engr. Julius Olurinola, our Director of Engineering Services, whose role I liken to that of a midwife, supervising, monitoring and reporting the progress of this project from incubation to delivery.

All I need now say is that other government buildings can follow this path and our team will be most enthusiastic to provide the support, and share our experiences and lessons learned, working with the Ministry of Power.

Your Excellency Mr. President, I have the pleasure to now invite you sir, to perform the official commissioning of the 1.52 MegaWatts Solar Power project to provide uninterrupted power to your staff in the Ministry of Works and Housing and Environment to improve their working conditions.

Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN
Honourable Minister of Works and Housing
The maths of that diesel saving doesnt add up!! if you are saving circa 500,000litres of diesel annually that should be a N140mln saving per year!!! Not sure how the N240mln over 20 years is coming from!!

With the rate at which Mabushi has constant light, how are you guys still able to rack up that much diesel cost? Also, having built a solar mini grid, how are you able to rack up another diesel cost again or I am not understanding. Isn't the idea of solar mini grid not supposed to cancel out the idea of using diesel entirely?
Remember dude, sun doesn't shine at night!! Though they could have solved that problem with grid scale batteries, but then the cost will also be perhaps double.
