Unnerve: But there are people who built in your neighborhood, even the one you rented was built by someone.
If you were to start looking to get your own house, would you be financially capable enough to build/buy one in that same neighborhood, considering how much you're already spending on rent? It wasn't long ago I finished NYSC, not looking to build anything soon. One month income pays my rent. I'm good. Modified I do not do yahoo for those sending me pms. I only earn in dollars and spend in naira |

I will speak for myself and my experience. I live in such a neighborhood and I love it. The calibre of people I have met just walking down my street is something that would never have been possible if I was living in low-income neighbourhoods. Twice, I have gotten job offers without any mention of cv. One of them works closely with the governor, the other owns a radio station. The people that offered me this job did not know me from Adam, they only know I am a neighbour. Besides, nothing beats the inspiration gotten from walking around your neighbourhood and seeing beautiful mansions, clean streets, and breathtaking landscaping. The quiet, the serenity, the security is something I will not trade. The sun even hits different here walahi Please, don't do it if you can't afford it. But if social mobility is your thing, then it should definitely be an option. #MyOpinion |

Family › Re: Why Your Diasporan Friends And Family Do Not Send You Money When You Ask. by Coolabbie: 5:58pm On Jun 01, 2020 |
rhames: How can they send you money when :
They pay weekly rent instead of annual rent and they pay the equivalent of what you pay annually in a month?
They pay more for food and clothings?
They are heavily taxed for breathing simple air?
They struggle to buy Sunday and Friday clothes to put on and be neat and even buying casual clothes is hell?
I have never sought either financial or any assistance from any of my relations abroad for anything because my own uncle spent close to thirty years there as a civil servant and retired back here in Nigeria and still receives pensions here through the UK High Commission here. He had little to show for his stay there.
I am an advocate of struggle and never of begging. When I lost my job, i sold my car and a lot of other assets and invested in shares and real estate. Today i have a business and a chartered accountant and a Ph.D. holder. Please stop begging them money. Concentrate on your talents and let it work for you and pray very very very hard to have a brakthrough in your lives.
God Bless Nigeria. Wow!!! God bless you too |

EgunMogaji2: Eloquent thoughts and you're correct about the educational prioress of Nigerians in at least the USA.
The tissue is generational. From a young age Nigerians have been coached to go to school, get a degree, become a lawyer or doctor. There's nothing bad with that but that's where it all started from.
On the other hand in the USA you will find shop class in high school where kids can learn trades like auto repair, plumbing. They can then go on to trade schools to formalize the training.
There's a big disconnect in nigerian educational system where most if not all of the technical and trade colleges are long gone.
Many of us are coming back or are back to make these changes in Nigeria. Unfortunately though the foreigners are already here ahead of us and have made in ground. If you are back, welcome home. And may whatever God you serve make your exploits in your homeland successful. Modified Reading through your posts made me cry. Nigeria has also been good to me but coming here on nairaland to see people cast aspersions on her has been very discouraging. Thank you for what you do. |

Make sure you invest in solar once you get paid. That what I will do. Also the contract states 20hours for the job, that like 600 usd If you can, relocate to a state that has constant electricity. That's what I did and I have had no need for gen for more than a year now. |
