CrimeIndian Minister 'jokes' About Mysuru Gang Rape by Cousin9999(op): 11:38am On Oct 31, 2021
A day after the gang rape of a college student near Chamundi foothills shocked Mysuru, Home Minister Araga Jnanendra caused outrage with his statements and by ‘joking’ about the incident.

Accusing Congress of ‘politicising’ the incident, the Minister said in Bengaluru on August 26, “Rape has occurred there [Mysuru]. But Congress is trying to rape the Home Minister here.”

When asked to explain his statement, he told mediapersons that he meant it as a ‘joke’, and did not intend to hurt anyone.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Jnanendra had questioned the timing of the victim’s visit to the site of the alleged crime. Responding to a query from reporters, he had said, “They [victims] went to a desolate spot, at 7.30 p.m. They shouldn't have gone there at that time. But, we cannot stop anyone from going anywhere...”

Congress has condemned the remarks of Mr. Jnanendra. “Not just him but his entire party should answer for such irresponsible statements,” said KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar. He said police should immediately ‘book cases against Congressmen who were attempting to rape the Home Minister’.

Assault on couple
A group of men allegedly raped a student after assaulting her male friend near Chamundi foothills on August 24 night. The group comprised four or five men.

The alleged incident occurred around 7.30 p.m. in the wooded area near the helipad, in Alanahalli police station limits.

The student and her friend were admitted to a private hospital around 1.30 a.m. on August 25.

CrimeDubai: Bangladeshi Women Victims Of A Human Trafficking Gang by Cousin9999(op): 11:24am On Oct 31, 2021
Lured by the offer of handsome salaried jobs in Dubai, Bangladeshi women are becoming victims of a human trafficking gang, according to police.

Bina Rani Das, Additional Superintendent of Police of RAB-3, said once the women reached Dubai, their passports were seized by the traffickers and they were forced to work as sex slaves.

The RAB-3 have arrested four suspects, including a woman, in connection to the crime from Demra in the capital, Keraniganj on the outskirts of the city and Manikganj district on August 1.

The four suspects have been identified as Shamima Akhter, Shankar Biswas, Sheikh Hanif Miah and Jewel Hossain.

Das further said that the operation to nab the suspects was carried out when the mother of a victim came to the RAB-3 office and lodged a complaint.

The victims said that they were sexually abused in different places, including Dubai, after they were trafficked there in the name of good jobs.

According to the police, the gang trafficks women to different countries, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with the promise of good jobs.

A large number of Bangladeshi women are falling victims to human trafficking every year and the low conviction rate in such cases is encouraging the perpetrators to continue.

Sources said that the gang members prepare all the papers, including passports, visas and tickets, for the targeted women.

However, there is a condition that the matter should be kept a secret from their family members.

Earlier, the trafficking rings used various tactics to traffic women with the support of travel agencies of the country.

Faruk Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told IANS that the trafficking ring is a organised gang of women traffickers and they have been active in Bangladesh for long.

There are many Bangladeshi girls in Dubai. Many of them have fallen ill, but not sent to hospital for emergency treatment, not even back to Bangladesh .

The traffickers who are caught come out of jail taking the opportunity of the loopholes in the law, police officials told IANS, seeking anonymity.

If you can figure out a legal way to go to a decent EU country (e.g. Spain) and train as a truck/lorry/HGV driver legally, right now might be an excellent time to get work in the UK as a driver. After doing that for a while, you'll have a lot of options.

CrimeAmerican Flight Diverted After Asian Male Assaults Female Flight Attendant by Cousin9999(op):
An American Airlines flight from New York to Orange County, California, outside Los Angeles, was diverted to Denver Wednesday after a passenger allegedly assaulted a female flight attendant. The carrier says it's "outraged."

Witnesses initially described it as a dispute over wearing a mask, but American Airlines said the incident was not mask-related.

American says Flight 976 from John F. Kennedy International Airport to John Wayne Airport, in Santa Ana, was diverted "due to a passenger who physically assaulted a flight attendant. The aircraft landed safely and taxied to the gate, where law enforcement removed and apprehended the passenger."

The Federal Aviation Administration, which confirmed the plane landed at 6:37 p.m. Denver time, says it will investigate.

The flight attendant was taken to a local hospital, CBS L.A. reports. The Association of Professional Flight Attendants, the union representing American Airlines flight attendants, said the employee suffered broken bones to the face.

American Airlines CEO Doug Parker called the incident "one of the worst displays of unruly behavior we've ever witnessed."

The FBI Denver office said the investigation is ongoing.

One passenger, Mackenzie Rose, told CBS Los Angeles the incident occurred about halfway through the flight, when the plane was over Ohio. The passenger suspected of assaulting the flight attendant was apparently in first or business class.

Rose provided CBS L.A. with what she said is a photo of the man in Denver International Airport:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FCwzi9bWQAAqudo?format=jpg&name=large

Rose told the station the flight attendant had blood on her after the assault.

"I saw her walk by and she had blood on the outside of her mask, which bless her, she was still wearing," Rose said.

In a statement, American said it's outraged by the reports of what took place on board. Parker said in an Instagram post that American Airlines will not tolerate airport or inflight misconduct of any kind, and called for "aggressive criminal prosecution."

"As for this individual, I can guarantee you he will never be allowed to fly American Airlines' again. But that is not enough — this type of behavior has to stop," Parker said.

No other injuries were reported. The suspect's name wasn't released. The plane continued to Santa Ana, where it arrived Wednesday night.

Unruly passenger behavior on planes has been increasing since travel re-opened after the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

RomanceRe: Would You Accept Walk Dates? by Cousin9999: 5:44pm On Oct 28, 2021
The only problem is if you don't know each other well (dry conversation). It's better to do some physical activity. But if you've been texting or know each other through friends, a walk in a nice area could be fine. But it should be planned well, like a good route with nice scenery that ends at a nice place to sit and have a tea/coffee/beer or light meal.

If someone is more concerned about where you're taking them than getting to know you and having fun, probably not worth your time.

That said, the only other problem is maybe safety. Better to take someone to a place they feel comfortable until you know each other.
Foreign AffairsUS Bans China Telecom Over National Security Concerns by Cousin9999(op): 2:21pm On Oct 28, 2021
The US communications regulator has voted to revoke China Telecom’s licence in America over national security concerns in the latest pushback by Washington against what it deems possible infiltration of key networks by Chinese companies.

The decision by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) means China Telecom Americas must now discontinue US services within 60 days. China Telecom, the largest Chinese telecommunications company, has had authorisation to provide telecommunications services for nearly 20 years in the United States.

The news sent stocks in US-listed Chinese tech firms down sharply and their stocks in Hong Kong also suffered hefty selling, pulling the Hang Seng index down more than 1% lower.

The Hang Seng tech index lost more than 3%, with Tencent, Alibaba, JD.com and XD among those taking a hit.

The FCC found that China Telecom “is subject to exploitation, influence, and control by the Chinese government and is highly likely to be forced to comply with Chinese government requests without sufficient legal procedures subject to independent judicial oversight”.

The regulator added that Chinese government ownership and control “raise significant national security and law enforcement risks by providing opportunities” for the company and the Chinese government “to access, store, disrupt, and/or misroute US communications”.

In response, a China Telecom America spokesperson said the FCC’s decision was “disappointing” and that it would “pursue all available options while continuing to serve our customers”.

Former US president Donald Trump moved the issue to the top of the political and diplomatic agenda in 2019 when he declared a national emergency to ban technology from “foreign adversaries” and subjected the Chinese telecommunications company Huawei to strict export controls. In May 2019, the FCC banned another state-owned Chinese telecommunications company, China Mobile, from providing US services.

Trump then successfully piled pressure on American allies such as the UK and Australia to follow suit and ban Huawei from their 5G networks.

China Telecom served more than 335 million subscribers worldwide as of 2019 and claims to be the largest fixed line and broadband operator in the world, according to a Senate report. It also provides services to Chinese government facilities in the United States.

The US government said in April 2020 that China Telecom targeted its mobile virtual network to more than 4 million Chinese Americans; 2 million Chinese tourists a year visiting the United States; 300,000 Chinese students at American colleges; and the more than 1,500 Chinese businesses in America.

The FCC warned at the same time that it might shut down US operations of three state-controlled Chinese telecommunications companies, citing national security risks raised by US agencies. They were China Telecom Americas, China Unicom Americas, Pacific Networks Corp and its wholly owned subsidiary ComNet (USA) LLC.

The FCC commissioner, Brendan Carr, a Republican, said the regulator “must remain vigilant to the threats posed” by China. The Chinese embassy in Washington did not respond to a request for comment.

US senators Rob Portman and Tom Carper, who issued a report in 2020 on the US operations of Chinese telecom companies, praised the FCC decision in a joint statement that cited “substantial and serious national security and law enforcement risks”.

In March, the FCC began efforts to revoke authorisation for China Unicom Americas, Pacific Networks and its wholly-owned subsidiary ComNet to provide US telecommunications services. It also designated five Chinese companies as posing a threat to national security under a 2019 law, including Huawei, ZTE, Hytera Communications, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology and Zhejiang Dahua Technology.

Foreign AffairsChinese Authorities Tell Billionaire To Use His Own Money To Pay Firm Debt by Cousin9999(op): 8:42am On Oct 28, 2021
Authorities in China have told Evergrande's billionaire founder, Hui Ka Yan, to use his own money to pay the company's debt, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The directive was issued after the real-estate behemoth missed an initial September 23 deadline to pay an $84 million coupon on a dollar bond, Bloomberg added. Evergrande later paid the coupon during the note's 30-day grace period.

Hui's fortune alone is unlikely to be enough to rescue the debt-laden property developer.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Hui's net worth is about $7.6 billion - that's small change compared to Evergrande's $300 billion debt pile as of June.

It's also unclear whether Hui's personal stash is liquid enough for the mission. His wealth is largely derived from his shares in Evergrande and their cash dividends, Bloomberg reported.

Markets the world over have been roiled by Evergrande's debt woes as investors fear contagion across the world economy. The developer has an interest payment worth $45 million due on Friday.

But local governments in China are keeping tabs on Evergrande's bank accounts to ensure the company's funds are being used to complete housing projects under construction rather than pay creditors, Bloomberg reported.

Hui did not immediately respond to an Insider request for comment via Evergrande.
