Intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR) & advanced precision targeting day and night all on one platform meaning see-instant-kill capability. The time used in scrambling and vectoring an A-Jet or attack Helo to its target from a dedicated ISR Aircraft is eliminated.

Infact except a terrorist, bandit or ESN is dead and not exuding any heat signature in the line of fire he is already dead before he knows it.

The Tucano can loiter at high altitudes for extended periods of time at very low cost unlike fast jets making it an excellent COIN platform.

FIRST BATCH OF A-29 SUPER TUCANO AIRCRAFT DEPART THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA FOR NIGERIA

The first batch of 6 A-29 Super Tucano aircraft have departed the United States of America on Wednesday, 14 July 2021 enroute Nigeria. The 6 aircraft will be leapfrogged through 5 countries including Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Spain and Algeria before arriving their final destination in Nigeria towards the end of July 2021. An official induction ceremony of the aircraft into the inventory of the Nigerian Air Force is already being planned at a later date in August 2021 to be announced in due course. The Office of the Director of Public Relations and Information remains open to any inquiry regarding the arrival and induction of the aircraft.

Kindly assist in disseminating this information for the awareness of the general public.

Of course I meant that in a good way about Nigeria obviously. I simply insinuated that Nigeria has clout and influence in Africa that would precipitate a broader support of Africa's leaders in physical manpower and resources if we were to fight a near peer foreign power something Ethiopia can't muster nor the leverage to do so. About performance Nigeria is too sophisticated, modern, powerful and advanced a military to be compared with Ethiopia. Recent perfomances in the field also buttress that fact. What the TDF did to the Ethiopian military is beyond embarrassing. Ethiopia simply doesn't have the resources.

If Nigeria enters Tigray now they would sue for peace in a fortnight. Nigeria arguably is the only military in Africa that has proven since the 60's and modern times the capability and capacity to win wars on its own terms. Though right now we have a faceless mortal enemy willing to die we don't really know his exact address despite that we have done creditably well under this new kind of assymetric warfare something attested to by the United States which has itself absconded from a similar fight in Afghanistan.

Besides there's something called diplomacy, nations won't stand by and watch any war of such magnitude escalate engulfing even more nations.

No one is wiping any nation off the map, neither has the capability nor the capacity. Ethiopia is not a sitting duck. It has proven it can fight external forces. It has the advantage of demography and topography. It can quickly generate the support of external powers that have something to grind with Egypt which basically has a conscript army and hasn't really won any decisive war short of some over blown victories in battle with the Israelis. Arabs can't fight. Lots of noise but no grit and bite.

The point is it is a very costly adventure to attack that dam. There would be some detente in the long run or clearly Egypt may carry out some form of pre-emptive strike if it considers the government in Addis Ababa to be weak though I put my money more on subversive measures for now rather than direct action.

Nigeria commissions Falcon Eye maritime domain awareness system

Nigeria has commissioned the Israeli-designed Falcon Eye maritime domain awareness system to monitor the country’s territorial waters and track movements within the broader Gulf of Guinea maritime zone.

It was commissioned by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on 13 July at the Nigerian Naval Headquarters in Abuja. He said the Falcon Eye system generates real-time situational awareness of maritime activities off Nigeria’s coastline.

Falcon Eye is a mass surveillance system that uses a number of radars, electro-optic systems and cameras operated from a command centre. It was designed in Israeli but manufactured by United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based Falcon Technologies. The company also manufactures unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

After a contract was signed in 2014, installation began more than five years ago at strategic points within the country’s territorial waters and the Gulf of Guinea, and was due to be completed in 2016 but the project was delayed.

Osinbajo said Falcon Eye “will enable the Nigerian Navy generate a comprehensive intelligence picture of activities within our maritime environment for further analysis before, in appropriate cases, dispatching a Nigerian Navy Ship for interdiction, investigation, and/or subsequent arrest of erring vessels…It will also enable the Nigerian Navy to effectively combat any maritime crimes that could disrupt the conduct of maritime trade.”

He explained that Nigeria loses around $26 billion a year to criminality, particularly piracy and sea robbery, which underscores the need to enhance maritime security architecture.

“The Falcon eye system is a state-of-the-art surveillance facility that incorporates various sensors located along the nation’s enormous coastline, such as radars, long range electro optic systems with thermal or night vision capability, Automatic Identification System receivers, weather stations and marine very high frequency radios for communication,” Osinbajo said.

The system operates observation posts which feed information and real time imagery to a central command centre/fusion cell where information is analysed and shared with relevant stakeholders, including the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigerian Ports Authority and Marine Police, amongst others.

Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo said the Falcon Eye system “translates to complete coverage of Nigeria’s Exclusive Economic Zone. Monitoring and analysis of data from the various sites strategically located along the nation’s coastline is facilitated through the four Falcon Eye Centers in Abuja, Lagos, Yenagoa and Calabar.

“Penitently, the coverage of the satellite aspect of the Automatic Identification System of Falcon Eye extends beyond Nigerian waters to Cote D’Ivoire at the West, Cameroon at the East, and Angola at the South East.

“This significant capability enhances the maritime projection capabilities of the country and enables the Nigerian Navy to maintain strategic partnership on information sharing, especially with navies of the Gulf of Guinea nations, as well as Indian and Italian navies.”

Osinbajo pointed out that NIMASA last month launched its Deep Blue maritime security initiative. “Between these initiatives, we have significantly increased our national capabilities in the areas of maritime surveillance and criminal interdiction within our territorial waters.”

Deep Blue and Falcon Eye will allow Nigerian authorities to monitor all movements and prevent the commission of maritime crimes such as piracy, oil theft, vandalism offshore oil infrastructure and illegal aircraft movements within the Gulf of Guinea.

One guy even told me that if Egypt successfully attacked the dam Ethiopia would blow up the Aswan Dam and occupy Cairo. When I sked many why are they so confident in Ethiopia's ability to take on Egypt after their defeat in the Tigray region they typically say something like "Egypt has never won a war" or "Do you know our history we defeated Egypt many times in the PAST".

Nope no black nation as a block will necessarily get involved except the ones Ethiopia enjoys bilateral relations with and none of which in East Africa has the muscle to stand Egypt.

Ethiopia is not Nigeria. The current Prime Minister and government in Addis Ababa is asking for too much. He's already been taught a lesson by the tribe or region that is really the fighting elements in all of Ethiopia and across Eritrea as well. Which is why they tactically called off the offensive because in a wider war it will take all of Ethiopia's military industrial complex to sustain a war against Egypt for a long period. Winning that war is not guaranteed either on both sides even though Egypt may do the most damage. None of those countries have what it takes from human intelligent resources (Ethiopia a lot better here though) to money (Egypt better here with Arab sponsors) to have the knockout punch power. Also don't forget this is not the Ethiopia of Meles Zenawi.

I really don’t know about this. But we averagely have almost 2 battalions in each of the 27 LGA in Borno state.

I know about 4 Brigade ( Gwoza, Bama, Dikwa/Marte, Damboa and Monguno which looks bigger than a Brigade)

If we know the number of personnel per Brigade or Battalion we might have a rough estimate.

Somewhere north of 20,000 boots -- approximately 17,000 active combat troops and that's just the NA alone not the NAF & NN excluding logistics, support services and sister agencies. The whole place is crawling with Federal Might. Actual numbers are classified because there are sensitive highly skilled elements in-and-out of theatre on HVT missions not factored in deployed numbers.

A standard battalion is about 750 to 800 soldiers. A full brigade sized force starts from 5,000 men and a full Division around 15,000 men under arms. In a war that can vary from High Command to High Command depending on exigencies sometimes numbers are given that don't actually exist on ground as PsyOps against the enemy though an enemy with good military intelligence will factor out some
of the realities on ground. An example is the Biafran War, WW11 or even the North Vietnamese army and the Viet Cong in the Vietnam war of attrition with the Americans in which sides exaggerated or downplayed numbers and capabilities which in many cases inevitably prolonged the war.

In the Nigerian Army a mechanized infantry battalion is about 1,000 troops and a Brigade 5,000 men like the Guards Brigade, Abuja. A division in the NA tends to exceed 15,000 men.
