Religiosity is a mental disorder.

Christmas is just something Europeans invented to distract them from the gloom of winter. Why would any sane person say they want a white Christmas? See it worked.
PoliticsRe: Appreciating The Army-shiite Clash: Nigeria Should Be Extremely Careful by Curlieweed: 7:12pm On Dec 16, 2015
Onyocha:
i have watched the video released showing army officers asking Shites to clear the road. It is obvious that the Shiite followers of Zakzaky mistrust the army because of last year's tragic incident under the Jonathan administration, when three of Zakzaky's sons were killed and thirty members of his Islamic Movement in Nigeria.

Undoubtedly, the army can claim anything after watching this video. Both sides could have avoided this incident by letting go their ego. The Shiites brought death upon themselves by blocking the road and confronting soldiers who don't value civilian life and play by democratic rules. This was suicidal in my view on the side of the Shiites.The Zakzaky followers provoked the soldiers going by this video. We however don't know what the soldiers mission was on that road and if the sect members felt threatened or thought the soldiers were on their way going to kill their leaders so they blocked the road and insisted not to clear. There is need for more details especially that the video is cut at one point.

However, let us go by the narration and video we have at hand. The soldiers have "protected" themselves, refused to turn back and cleared the way and have killed those blocking the road.at this point, it is still a road blocking clash and things have happened.

What is left to be understood is after the soldiers have cleared the way, why did they proceed to the Hussainiyyah and shot at sight and destroy the Islamic center? Why did they also go ahead to destroy the sheikh's house and shoot him and his family members? After the road blocking incident, the soldiers continued on the rampage on three different locations synonymous with the Islamic movement in Nigeria, far away from the road blocking incident location. More or less, it was revenge attacks and "lesson teaching" mission by soldiers. The Zakzaky followers were too overzealous and bold to confront the army and they are wrong to display stones, machetes and sticks in front of armed soldiers. That incident has passed. Why did the soldiers continue the attacks and extra judicial killings? I expect them to exercise restraint. And even if the sheikh was to be cautioned, the police or other ways should have been employed to caution him or even arrest him in a democratic dispensation.

So clearly, the video explains the trigger and the mistrust and misunderstanding that happened and both sides lost it and the movement members more or less committed suicide.

After the road block wahala had ended, the soldiers totally lost it and took law into their hands and went on revenge attacks and extra judicial killings. Things are not done like that in democracy. There is police and rule of law.

That is my opinion and you may agree or disagree. What is on ground is pitiful. Hundreds have been killed and properties destroyed. Many homes have been wounded.

May the dead RIP!

We hope justice will prevail and impunity will not continue. Had Jonathan done the needed last year when three of the sheikh's sons were killed along thirty others, a lasting solution could have been found to end the problem of road blocks and mistrust. There is need for confidence building measures and trust with the Islamic Movement in Nigeria to be put in place by the government to reassure everyone that no one is target simply for their beliefs or what they practice and then look for ways of cooperation and understanding to avoid any future mistrust or tragedy.
Good post. However, you need to understand the kind of armed forces we have in this neo-colonial prison camp. It was designed as an army of occupation by the British and like so many other vile colonial institutions it's very role in "pacifying" the citizenry has remained unchanged from the time it was created. From that time, the pattern has been the same, whether you're talking about the 1897 Benin massacre, the attempted destruction of a place of worship in 1902 Arochukwu or the more recent mass murders in places like Ogoni, Odi, Zakibiam to mention a few.

Like Fela said "they leave sorrows, tears and blood. Them regular trademark". It's just their draft ion and they have been doing it for well over century. Even with the BH onslaught, Mumuharri a product of this system refused to attempt even a face saving investigation into reports of human rights abuses by the NA but chose instead to forgo any military aid from the US. That should tell you something.

No mind am.

For what I understand, the essayist actually did an excellent job in debunking the white IQ supremacy myth with concrete facts using current realities of what you may call the Nigerian academic/intellectual wonders.

One thing that is most baffling to the author (and even me) is the fact that most of these Nigerians who outperform the Whites (and Chinese) in the academic field, exams, cognitive test (including scrabble) were not even born there. They went there as immigrants from Nigeria - a poor, less developed country with very limited opportunities, which is enough to impede cognitive development.
So The West cannot claim any glory for having to bring them up with their culture.

Black race (Nigerians) is the super race.
I don't know about any "super race" but it's quite clear that current data on ethnic groups and intelligence backs the environmentalists over the Racialists. The evidence is that even the brain itself is quite plastic and environmental factors can have an overwhelming influence on the its ability to perform at the highest levels.

It is perfectly feasible to build even 10,000MW in the next 3 years under 2 conditions:

(1) that private operators be allowed to charge market rates, with no interference from the government.
(2) that the current foreign exchange controls are abolished, and the Naira be allowed to freely float.

Building power plants isn't rocket science, and there are plenty of companies around the world with the necessary skills, but no one will invest serious money in a country like Nigeria where prices are capped at an unprofitable level to appease the economically illiterate, and it's impossible to repatriate any of your earnings because the central bank is trying to pretend the Naira is stronger than it really is.
Thanks X 10000. I just parsed your monicker again. Indeed you're a worthy follower of the Austrian genius, Hayek.

So banking can only function in a country with large oil reserves? Pls I need an answer to this question. .

Yorubas have agriculture, tourism, entertainment, art and textile, natural resources including crude oil and gold, we have access to the ocean, countless rivers and waterways plus our illustrious human resources

We don't need non yoruba Niger delta oil

What has our diversity given us so far? What has our position in Africa given us? How much better is nigeria than Benin Republic?
Just look at a country where nothing works, nothing! There's only resentment, bigotry, urge for political dominance, lack of nationalism/patriotism. All this will end in a homogeneous state under an independent government
I have to thank you again. I don't understand why these defenders of the current status quo think that countries cannot survive without oil. There are several examples of successful nations all over the globe, some with very little fungible natural resource. I have repeatedly said it elsewhere that any group of determined people can form a successful state. The examples are legion. Examples of literally failed states with enormous resources equally abound.

You mentioned one key ingredient in making successful states, NATIONALISM. A situation where trained members of a national volunteer army repeatedly run from poorly armed ragtag insurgents should tell you the extent of nationalist fervour in our country. You can't fake it, neither can you inculcate it with propaganda. You can't import it with Niger Delta petrodollars and you can't get the Chinese to manufacture it for you.

auwal87:
For those who joined Nairaland Forum long enough, will know that there was once an active campaign for the creation Arewa Republic from Nigeria. It was gathering momentum and gaining supporters daily, one of them even printed more than 3000 copies of an article I wrote and distributed in Kaduna, I had a chat with an SS on FB whom doesn't know I know he is SS because I was told he is going to contact me. I started receiving PMs of people showing their support and sometimes conversations gets hot until I slow them down. We even created flag, borders, etc. An anonymous caller even said they are ready to sacrifice their lives for the cause, and that they are waiting for my order, note the word 'they', which means the caller is not alone.

While I have interest in having a country where I don't have to force anyone to share with my cultures and values, and also not be forced to share anyone's culture or value, I also accept that creating country is not a small task, it can lead to war, bloodshed, and loss of properties. I also thought it will be easier for Arewa to be a State under the proposed United Africa, than to be on its own, with its own currency, military, etc. I think that the most important discussion we should be having now is uniting Africa, not creating small countries that will fail in a few years. Think about it, a United Africa, where you can travel from Lagos to Zanzibar without borders, or from Tripoli to Accra without need for visa, think of the economic advantages, where goods manufactured in PortHarcourt can land in Dakar without customs or the fish in Morocco
can be transported to Arewa by rail. Yes, it is just in my dreams, but a lot safer and more possible than creating a small country from Nigeria.

Africa can become a great country, afterall, lots of people thought Africa is a country.
Oga,

Take am easy with this your US of Africa dream. Actually, slap yourself awake quickly. The last person to have this dream (or nightmare to the rest of us) was sodomised and lynched by his own people .

If you were little brighter you would have wondered why the Chinese were not able to transform to first world status during the same period since as you claim they equally belong to the East Asian super "intelligent race". And by the way, you seem to have forgotten that while South Korea may support your "hypothesis", the North is worse than a basket case.

It's comic when the simple minded try to reduce complex phenomenon to facile cause and effect relationships.

It's sooooooooo true. People need to read more intelligent books and have a better diet.

Oh..... and remove so much focus from s.ex. undecided
If we remove our focus from sex, how would we breed all those intelligent children?

@op. Another way to increase the average IQ is to exterminate the less intelligent ones, preferably before they have a chance to procreate. I would suggest that the OP is good candidate for a pilot to test this hypothesis. Clearly, it would be immensely difficult to find a more eminently suitable specimen. He has proved this beyond doubt by conspicuously advertising his particular genetic disposition for cognitive deficiencies and by continuously spreading this race, intelligence and eugenics pseudoscience on these boards.

I would suggest that he sets a good example by committing suicide. If he is unwilling or unable to do this, I will be generous enough to afford him any assistance he may require. Hopefully, he has not had a chance to procreate his kind.

I am easily misunderstood by people, I am a staunch pan Africanist who believes that for Africa to achieve her full potential, the 1886 Berlin artificial boundaries created for exploitation of the people and not for national building by the Caucasians must be torn to shreds and New natural nations formed based on cultural, linguistic, traditional , homogeneous political ideologies be formed.

I only appear a tribalist to those who would stand on Ndiigbo's path to redefining the Colonial maps and establishing a real nation capable of achieving greatness, those who would promote and seek to impose the Colonial Zoo on Igboland.

To this end, I believe in justice, equity, tolerance, amongst all African people.
Thanks. No true Biafran can hate other African ethnic nations. The Biafran flag is basically the traditional Black Liberation flag but with the rising sun included. Biafra was founded on pure Afrocentric principles. Please refer to the Ahiara declaration. It was clearly stated that we were struggling against the cruel nexus of Eurocentric and Arab imperialism on our continent and asserting our right to define our space on the planet rather than continuing to struggle within the arbitrary boundaries imposed on us by our enemies.

Mumuharri never promised an endless supply of fuel, ministers or any these useless things you guys keep talking about. Baba only promised to fight "Kwarauption".

As any educated person knows, when you fight a stubborn noun like "Kwarauption" (which occasionally fights back), you have to use a lot of other words; nouns, adverbs, adjectives, pronouns etc. This is exactly what our presidiot is doing. You don't need fuel, power, ministers or even an economy to fight Kwarauption, you only need brave fighting words. So please stop whining and enjoy the change.

This new word "hate" is apparently the latest buzzword. As usual, the sheeple regurgitate it unthinkingly.

I can certainly give examples of several episodic explosions of hatred accross Nigeria (and how many lives were lost) but with IPOB - no killings, no beatings.. Nada. Even on these boards, I can give several examples of lunatics advocating genocide on Igbos but among secessionists, no such evidence advocating mass murder of the other..

When the Scotish proposed a referendum to break away from GB, we didn't hear all these threats and hate speech by the English even though the confederation was entered willingly but in our case, any discussion about our forced Union is incomplete without threats of genocide, violence and a million war crimes. And apparently, we secessionists are the ones hating.

I love that quote from the Ezza.

As late as 1905 they felt able to tell an emissary of the colonial government that the Ezza recognized no superior authority except the Heavens above and the Earth beneath. Between these two awe-inspiring super human potentates the Ezza said they alone existed as a third force.

We should replace Ezza with Igbo there and include that statement as part of the preamble to our new constitution.

Great quote!

Naijiant:
My guy, go and read your history. Fellow Igbos took part in the British expedition of 1901 that conquered the Aro and destroyed their Ibini Ukpabi shrine. Many Aro communities across Igbo land were slave traders who lived on the outskirts of towns and not allowed into their host communities. For many, it was an abomination to marry an Aro.
I find your argument interesting. In essence you're saying that since Igboland wasn't a single nation before the British Invasion, it might as well continue as part of Nigeria which itself wasn't a nation before the British either. In order words if a little bit of a "bad " characteristic (diversity in this case) is bad then more of it is good. If a little poison is bad then a massive dose will definitely do you some good.

This is a definition of "nation";

a large aggregate of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory.
"leading industrialized nations"

synonyms: country, sovereign state, state, land, realm, kingdom, republic;

Now take the conditions; 1)common descent, 2)history, 3)culture, 4)language, compare each element between AlaIgbo and Nigeria, then tell me which one best fits the definition of a nation.

Great insight. Actually, Nigeria is a Zombie Empire;

Definition:

1.
an extensive group of states or countries under a single supreme authority, formerly especially an emperor or empress.
"the Roman Empire"
synonyms: kingdom, realm, domain, territory, imperium;

It is now a Zombie because the head (single supreme authority in this case Britain) has left and like any Zombie without a head, powerful wizards (or necromancers if you like) like OBJ have found a way to re-animate this carcass for their selfish ends.

But for the umpteenth time, i'll advise the Igbos to play their politics right and enjoy Nigeria at the best it offers...lobby and counter lobby and get an Igboman as president and see a whole new world of possibilities for the Igbos of Nigeria..GEJ presidency offered Igbos something but Igbo president will offer almost everything...Whatever Igbos can imagine will become real.. u can dregde River niger from Atlantic ocean to Onitsha and create a new Lagos on its banks, you can turn Enugu to Abj overnight using presidential powers and good lobbying..even Biafra can be readily achieved with an Igbo as the president of Nigeria..

Its a shame to admit but the Ijaws have displayed a higher level of maturity after GEJs loss..after all the biafran protests, Ipob have managed to set the Igbo tribe 1000 places from where they were politically in Nigeria..it will now take the Igbo longer than would have been requured to get the presidency of Nigeria, even Ikwerre seems likelier.

Nothing happens through violence these days, but by tactfully carrying out a well thought out and detailed plan..The Igbos for now look so disorganised and planless in their political direction.how a people can be so bereft of political tact at this age is quite baffling.
Yeah. Like after GEJ, Yenogoa is now like New York and Brass has a deep Sea port?
