Let me sum it up for you. Firstly not all tribes in Ghana are matrilineal. It's only the Ashanti tribe of Ghana. How this came about started from the Royal family. Well this was what I was told and I also read about it a couple of years back.

But honestly speaking it's not really a big thing, perhaps if you marry into a royal family then the whole matrilineal may be emphasized but otherwise for the most part the dad is still the head. The kids belong to both parents and you can inherit whatever your folks give to you.
