I have many posts here in this politics section, PLEASE search and post ANY that has ANY TRIBAL ATTACK on any tribe in Nigeria! If you have a chip on your shoulders, I can understand but this thread was intentioned as a fact-establishing thread NOT an e-fighting tribal contest. Understand that NOW and get off the usual tribal thinking of most NLander e-fighters from their cozy homes in Abuja, Lagos, UK, US, Canada, etc.

The point is this: most e-fighters on NL had no clue of what happened but stories they were told but they will do anything to convince even a foreigner that they saw more action and know better than those that fought and died in the war. The morale of this is: you can make any point and so does the other person and that he disagrees with you does not mean you hide behind tribal affiliations to make yourself something when you were non-existent when history was created!

NL Politics is banter that reflects little or nothing on Naija's political realities and while everyone can have an opinion, e-wars forcing others to agree with a point of view are useless!
mischieviously insisting/suggesting that all the groups in the 'south south' have the same aspirations as the south east is misleading. while it's highly conceivable that the se/ss/sw/mb may end up in the same 'independence' camp, a good chunk of the ss will not agree to forming a country with the se without the inclusion of another sizable group - e.g yorubas - to act as a counterbalance to the igbos. the reality is, some groups in that region remain wary of igbos - justifiable or not - and will baulk at being part of an exclusive union with them. if yorubas are not joining an enlarged se/ss/sw country, a sharp knife will need to be taken to the map of edo/delta to split these states according to people's preferences. whoever said splitting nigeria would be easy!
You make a LOT of sense! All I care for is for people's opinions and rights to CHOOSE be pre-eminent in whatever is done not SOMEONE just saying, YES, "so-so land/tribe" belongs to this or that tribe or lets take their land or let US share it (I totally detest hearing things like that)!
Politics › Nairaland Politics Is A Joke - Here Is Why. . . by CyberG(op): 6:26am On Nov 07, 2011
This is not meant to slag off this eminent website or posters in the politics section. I will dive straight into business: The politics section of this forum is a joke, disconnected from reality, full of aggression yet no tangible action, activity but no motion, has virtually ZERO contribution to the national conversation and may seem more like a banter over a bottle of beer at the end of the day! ΣW (Work Done) = 0! Maybe no, ΣW = -Q (Q is an infinite number)

By empiric deduction, this website is frequented by mostly younger people. Particularly in the politic section, there is a strong suggestion of age variation from early twenties to maybe mid thirties or thereabout - perhaps about 40. I can understand why a lot of people in Nigeria do not have regular access to the internet but my focus here is the usefulness of all the arguments and counter-arguments to shaping the political conversation on-the-ground in Nigeria. All the e-wars on political differences, tribe, view-points only exist in cyberspace (apologies to CyberG grin grin).

Why would any on-the-ground Nigerian concede to your theoretical postulations to Nigerians who mostly live away from the realities of Nigeria? Before I complete this post, billions of Naira would have been stolen and a top level CIA phone call (according to "competent" sources grin) to the puppet government in Nigeria would have been completed. No disrespect to anyone based on their age, but last time parts of Nigeria were led by some thirty something year olds, we all saw what happened and where it has landed the country now. Well, in this age where most young people are spending more time on their IPhones, BB, Xbox, PS3, Internet, porn-sites, lots of sxex grin grin rather than the rigorous application of one's self to knowledge and maturity, who will give any to the e-gladiators a chance to set ablaze whatever remains of the sorry state Nigeria is right now?

So, in conclusion: the politics section is a cocoon of abstract thoughts and e-fantasy that has no bearing with the political realities and direction of Nigeria. Forget moronic FB posting by the non-existing "government leader". Yes, we can have a banter on any topic but the membership of this entire website is less than 1% of the population of Nigeria (assuming 170 M) and the political e-gladiators are even far, far less yet they think their opinions is LAW and everyone must follow them? This is not even considering that a larger percentage and regular posters are far removed from the realities experienced by the people on the ground! The ones on the ground still get along and I have recently been talking to my friends dispersed across Nigeria and they are horrified at how you e-gladiators are portraying everyone online. Has any of you e-gladiators living in your cozy homes in US, Canada, UK, Asia, Australia, etc experienced this today:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bnbt0kbHiz0&feature=player_embedded#!? (A long series!). NO, yet YOU would e-FORCE your e-opinion on everyone who disagrees? Well, so with these few words, I hope the shameful and disgraceful fights on NL when someone disagrees with you or you don't like his post, or you remember your tribe, and if you heard stories a long time ago (before you were born), or someone from your place stole all the state's financial allocation, or Goodluck loses his bearings again, Patience gbagauns an umpteenth time, someone doesn't want to give you their land, someone claims a different lineage; please give your opinion and move on!

Make una no vex for LONG post! grin grin

I stated explicitly that I was not born during the war, talk less of experiencing it. For observant followers of NL, it is easy to see how *some* people talk about the war like they had a personal experience of it. So much so, the result of it is tribalism, ethnocentrism, hatred and racism they complain about and this is while they ignore published works from people who saw the real thing. This post is well thought and the objective has been met: NO ONE on NL actually saw the Civil War and they should stop revising history like they saw something others didn't see. Sheyguy - talking about facts with these people is like banging your head on Everest - they CANNOT admit a different opinion of history but their OWN.

You fall into the strata of Nigerians who are inherently idiotic and consistently display their mental feebleness in debates. By the way, I do not give a ratarse if you and family lived in a backwater GRA as in the case of Nigeria because the country is a glorified jungle already. As one poster had referred your nonsensical post as “Straight from the gutter”, I must add you are equally straight from gutter.

It is a complete waste of time for any human being to attempt a debate with a marooned dunce such as you who is piloted by a psychotic skull and can not outdebate an Alzheimer patient. A bloody dimwit, tribal irredentist and loudmouthed son of bit,ch  who had idiotically claimed to have developed special set of eyes able to discern a class of pistol at night. What a ninny.

I suggest you donate your drug ridden body to the authorities so that your wonderful set of eyes could be subjected to further experiments with hope to discarding night vision goggle currently used by soldiers from advanced countries, olodo.
LMAO cheesy grin. . .can the moderators please remove every irrelevant post as this one? Some people must just stifle factual questioning of their blindly-held position and this fella is one. Mods, can you help remove ALL "e-fighting" posts 'cos it's not gonna help elicit and factual information from the people who actually saw the war?

Mister, open your own thread and I will meet you there for a different conversation. silly thread that can only be inspired by endemic cowardice.

Someone already called the thread "funny". He was being very charitable.
At the outbreak of the war, there were teenagers who had never seen a gun before, but who went on to make excellent soldiers once they were trained and marched to the front.

There are many civilians today who are FAR MORE COURAGEOUS than soldiers with many years of war experience.
It is all in the HEART, not in the head.
Your opinion is useless here, maybe you can open yours to preach to the choir. Either you are as lazy, clueless and cowardly as your fellow tribalists (champions of NL e-wars) or you are too small to have seen any WAR action (not even university aluta) with MOPOL all over you. In either case, like I told your fellow tribalist (Dedendato >> Odenson), open a different thread and we will discus your funny flat nose, empty oblongota head and club-footedness like "Goebbels" - your role model.

So far, even the hardened tribalists spreading hate fear to lie about fighting in the war - at least you told the truth. Otherwise, the spirits of the ones you lie to belong among will follow you before amadioha fire your tiny blockos!  grin grin

Thanks to all contributors. So far, we have had 237 views and NO ONE here on NL has said, YES, I saw the WAR ACTION during the civil war. You may have your own account of what you saw, which is fine and you can contribute it. But so far, you have been told by older people who saw and books you read but NO ONE has said, YES I saw and fought in the war. With this becoming evident, perhaps, this perspective can begin to shape some of the conversation about some of Nigeria's past history for which we mostly read or were told about.

You are as goofy as hell. We know the slimy trolls by what they write. At night and yet you were able to discern the pistol pointed at your head by an armed robber was Browning 1911. I can not speculate how old you were when your father’s aides allowed you to play with such a gun.

In fact, I do not know what to believe in these craps involving your father as service man and Browning 1911. I can not recall when Nigeria started issuing 1911 as side arms to soldiers. Maybe your father was a member of foreign armed forces. Again, there is no soldiers of advanced countries that would allow a kid to play around with Browning 1911.
Odenson (Dede1) ==> You must be retarde.d for your useless and valueless posts on this thread! Have you answered the question, NO and you know at your old age, you are more than a fool!? I don't like to talk like this but you're clearly stoking the embers of insult and much as I try to restrain myself, you have no brains to see that - what a lilliputian!

Now to your useless comments, so others can see you are a REAL dumbhead: My father towers above everyone in your lineage and seeing you can't even match the achievement of the best of your clan who you claimed was lost in battle, how dare your useless man talk about someone you don't know and can not look him in the face and none in your lineage could not look him in the face if he stood? Check: you are a big fool! Don't let me insult your elderly ones who had more honor than you useless, lazy piece of trash - sore loser!

I know you had no privilege in life so you are mad when I told you just a little thing - it makes you head explode!? My age is none of your business and except you have evidence to controvert that the event I described did not happen, then STFU! But obviously you are a fool for your forget I have a living witness to what I have described. Again, if you ever fought in any war (which is extremely doubtful from your juvenile and silly posts), you would recognize almost any gun even in darkness. If common sense does not make you realize that a gun pointed right at your head is close enough to be seen in any kind of light, then you have no use to humanity and you should just keel over now and die an inglorious, unsung and shameful death! The Browning was officially retired by the US Forces in 1985 so talking about 1911 make it seem like an old weapon and so improbable that I ever saw or touched it? I think alzheimers is already eating away your remaining brain cells. For your information, I have played with different weapons including AK-47, pistols, assault rifles, etc because guards watched the house morning, noon, overnight, in shifts in our own house, GRA, or wherever we were! So, you think they were useless efufuleles (talk less of efulefu) like you blowing hot wind and did not play with "ogas" pikin? Will someone like you even have a mouth to speak in that situation talk less of this your rabid ramblings in the anonymity of the internet?

You cannot answer the question meaning either you ran away when your mates were manning-up fighting and can't lie otherwise Amadioha will slaughter you on that useless computer or you were a pathetic infant who is still pissed like someone stole your candy! Fela called your type "BONN" - doubt if you can figure that out without Google or asking around!

Final word: don't derail the thread. I don't care for your existence. If you didn't fight, your contributions are useless by just pretending to be something when you are not. Are you club footed like Goebbels, and feel so inferior, you think mouthing off tribal BS will get you what you couldn't earn with your own sweat? Back off NOW!

You have not answered the question, so you really have nothing to offer, I guess. @OP

It is unfortunate you have such a downcast mindset about the tales of the war. Let me remind you that rarely do warriors narrate full detail accounts of battles during the war. The reason is simple because one soldier can not participate in all the battles within all the sectors at the same time. In fact only the sector commanders and personals at HQ knew as much about the war as reporters.

If anybody really wants to know the gist of the war, he or she must remain at the rears with imbedded news hunters. I can understand why your father or uncle does not want to talk about war with you because their knowledge of battles is limited to ones they participated. In fact, researchers could tell more detailed stories about war than field commanders.
Ha. . .so you are here at last! First, are you 56 or older? Next, there is nothing downcast about a question to elicit a fact, check: answer my first question.

Next: You know nothing about the people you referenced, whether they became historians, writers, pastors or did anything else. Check: You are probably old enough to not to get a smack-down because you are digressing from the objective of the thread. Any human in a war situation has only memory of the ACTION he participated in, and that is all YOU need to tell US if YOU participated in any. If you did NOT, sit down quietly and wait to learn - you should know this at your age!

Posters logic is funny. The truth is that some of us have 1st hand info on that war.My father fought as a child soldier while my Grand father fought as a full soldier. The history from my family's point of view is what I believe. Most Igbos fought that war as war of survival and not war of secession as being claimed by many reports I have come across.
There is no notion of logic here - in case you misunderstood the post. It's a question: Did YOU see action in the Civil War?

I have told about my experiences, what I have read and what I have been told too by people who have seen ACTION in Nigeria and outside. You can believe any point of view like any other person, BUT only if YOU actually saw action, stand-up and be counted otherwise, read and learn like a lot of young people have to.
