the tolerance here it is to jump and pass if it does not resonate with you. we should be able to express ourselves here within the subject matter "life in canada" because that your story may be what someone needs to be encouraged. i should have shared my story since but was holding back because i was afraid how people will react. but then this thread is about living in canada/life as a canadian immigrant.
vcole:

You may find it interesting that repeated reference being made to a God who may or may not be another listener/reader's God within a discussion that isn't religious in it's subject matter and in which the listener/reader has not expressed a desire to discuss religion, actually comes across as being religiously intolerant.

Let me kuku share my testimony even though it is incomplete. without God i am nothing so i can't but give Him all the honour.

I intend to write a book on my life experiences to encourage those who may have gone through rough and tough situations in life.

I will start from where it concerns this house as my testimony cant be shared in a day.

Before i came here i did series of prayers and a lot of prophesies were released concerning my relocation which included that i was going to get a very good job. When i got here i was applying hoping to get the good job but nothing was forth coming. Someone here introduced me to one of these part time jobs but because of my conviction that i was going to get a good job, i didnt consider it. My landlady tried to convince me to pick up any job while i wait for my "good job" but i would hear none of such suggestion. so tey we go church the guest minister used Joseph's story to reset my brain. She narrated how Joseph was told in the dream that he would be great but he didnt see it happen until he went as far as being a prisoner.

The next day being monday i called the agency that i wanted the job and started on a Tuesday. My people i never experience the kain pain wey i experience doing that job. You know coming from a background of armchair banking to that kain job by the second day i broke down. That night i cried like i have never and asked God a lot of questions. i just poured out my heart to God.

The next day naso i dress go work, As i got to where i normally catch my last bus to work, instead of waiting inside the hall until the time for me to resume at work was near as i have been doing since the last 2 days something just prompted me to go and enter the next bus and wait in the office. As i stepped out of the meadowville town centre i noticed one young filipino boy sitting in their bus shed smiling at me naso i smile back. Immediately he walked up to me and asked me if i mind his talking to me, i told him i dont mind. The next thing he said was God said i should tell you that He loves you. I turned to him and asked him if this is how evangelism is done in this country. He replied that he was not evangelizing. That he was to catch an earlier bus but the Holy Spirit said he should wait and that He is sending a lady to him whom He will give him a word for. At that point i remembered my prayers the night before and started crying. The boy was embarrassed and was like is everything okay with you? Do you need money? are you sick? Do you need prayers? I now told him how back home series of prophesies were released about what God was going to do for me and how i started one kain job 3 days ago. After narrating my experience, he prayed for me and as he was praying, he repeated the same prophesies i got back home. We eventually entered the same bus and dropped off at the same place because we found out that his office is behind my office. He got to know where i work and i found out that his brother is my supervisor. Naso later on, the man(my supervisor) wey dey hound me on my first day at work for being slow was apologising for not putting us through on the job before posting us.

one of his brothers working with me came to confirm my name some days later. During one of our break i had to ask why he asked for my name. he said his brother narrated his experience at meadowville town centre to him and that God has never spoken to him so clearly like that before. he sha said they intend to go back to their country to set up a mission field.

This experience gave me confidence that God knows about my situation and that He will do it in His time. Infact after that thing happened, if i work small i go just smile and say to myself "God loves me". As i am typing this i have even been relieved of the job as our contract ended on Friday. See as the thing pain me like say person die. It took my landlady encouraging me to reset my brain. Job wey i no wan pick before.

what prompted me to share this is the guy that said that everyone is rooting for my success and i replied that God's name is at stake on top my matter self.

Just be rest assured that He did not bring us this far to abandon us. He will settle us in His time not ours. And not the same time with others.

abeg no mind my grammar. i no go grammar school.

I am in Mississauga. My dear, i don't know who will get job where. It is possible she gets a job in the bank. With God all things are possible.

You want to start your ACCA conversion after you have landed? It's all up to you but it's good you get your CPA as soon as possible because ACCA is not appreciated here. Instead of seeing ACCA as a job requirement, you will see sound knowledge of IFRS.

A foot in the door number and position for now. I heard so many success stories that started from a foot in the door from the ACCA members networking I attended yesterday. Once you familiarise yourself with the HR, you will be top on their mind for any opening that is related to your profession

Well, the great thing is that the interviews are coming in. In no time you will land the dream job.
Do you have a number (CAD) in mind or a position?

Thank you dear. I am sorry I initially interpreted your name as Caesar at Work, hence the assumption you are a Bros. ITK Gone Wrong! Forgot it could also be Chizaram...
Anyway, wishing you all the best. Someone mentioned that CPA Ontario was more receptive and had less delays. I will look for the post and dig it out for you. Kindly share the links for resume writing if you have any.

I know it's not easy but know that we are all rooting for you, all of nairaland, all of Nigeria are supporting and praying for your success. Always remember that. All the best.

The story behind the name is part of my testimony which is still loading.

The embolded got me sha. Even God gan is rooting for my success. My experience at Meadowvale bus terminal got me crying. My testimony is loading.

I forgot to add that the last 5 years in your resume is very key. Also dont be modest about your achievements. Blow your trumpets very well. They dont see it as being proud. Infact it was one of my interviewers that made me realise 1 line in my resume is an achievement. I dey sing am like song now.

My brother how has it been? Have you concluded your ACCA to CGA? what are the opportunities. I've come to realise that Canada has over 260k CPAs, a high number for such a small population. Yet it's also a finance hub. How has it been for you?

My sister you mean. I am still in the process. The mistake i made was to write BC that i am in Ontario for them to move my file to Ontario. I was supposed to be inducted in November but as i type now, i dont even know the status of my application. I only got a mail that my file has been transferred to them in October and dats all. I have sent their automated enquiry mail but no response. I have also tried to speak with the registrar's office only to drop voicemail for them. I may be there physically tomorrow if time permits me.

My dear this land is to each his own. You can't use another person's story to know what lies in wait for you. I have learnt that not just because everybody has different story to tell but because MY CASE IS DIFFERENT. You will understand in fullness of time. Meanwhile you can never be hungry here. There are always jobs to pay the bills and worse case scenario you become government pickin wey dem go dey pay allowance (not advisable though).

Then the accounting and finance jobs are more in Ontario (Toronto to be precise). But i hear rent high for dat side na im make i go live for nearby to dey commute.

Resume writing is a big deal here because of the keywords the scanning machines look out for in a resume. You need to get your resume right to be called for interviews.

The bigger deal is Canadian experience which they won't tell you. This doesn't matter for IT people. They believe IT is same everywhere. The same way you do network security in Nigeria is the same way it is done in Canada. Infact this is so true because some of my sister's colleagues got their job before moving while the rest got theirs immediately they got here.

As an accountant you need to know your excel very well. Vlookup and pivot table are very important to them. Then QuickBooks is very popular here too. If you have worked in an organisation that use ERPs like Oracle and SAP(?) Then you are hotcake. I have not seen where the job ad has finacle or flexcube experience requirement(Bankers).

The above is just a general observation. There are exceptions to the rules.

I have to stop here for now. Like i said no two people have the same story. Ontario is yours to discover (its written on their plate numbers).

Hello everyone.

I am hoping to re locate to canada early 2018. Either as a student or PR. I am currently a banker in nigeria, 33 yrs , single , male, reasonably comfortable. I am not in a serious relationship but would love to be in one and hopefully get married soon. I am wondering if my decision to relocate would affect my prospects of being married soon. There is a female colleague of mine I have been thinking of, but don't want to commit to it then travel away. So i don't break anybody heart.

Please let me know your thought.

On a more serious note find out how long it takes to process your spouse's application if you are not able to conclude the transaction before your relocation and ask yourself if you can wait. If yes then i will suggest you initiate the process immediately.
