I wonder why Nigerian Premier League lacks good referees when there are many on NL. "It's not a penalty" "Its a red card" Una no go collect whistle? I thought Man City and Chelsea have money? Maybe they should try signing some refs during the transfer window instead of complaining about PDP. That's what CAN would do. tongue
I know Baba Ijebu at the Emirates can't afford a ref, so he is exempted.

Man U rules!
What are these people still doing in Bauchi?
I don't know why some of you think every Christian in the North is a Southerner who can just pack his bags and return to his village in Arochukwu? Islam was introduced to the North just as Christianity was. You have Northerners who chose Christians too.

naptu2: It would be unconstitutional to auction the vehicles without a court order.

See section 36 of the 1999 constitution (Fundamental Rights: Right to Fair Hearing).

It would also violate the principles of Nemo Judex in Causa Sua (you can't be a judge in your own cause) and Audi Alteram partem (you must listen to both parties).

It would also go against the precedent set in the court judgement cited previously.

Remember, everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Thank you my good fellow. That's what I like to hear. You have a right to challenge the laws if you feel wronged. Instead all u get here is sentimental talk of how much a car costs. Can it buy a life?

Guy, the truck was caught on 3rd Mainland Bridge! Do u need a street sign to indicate One-way there too? Let's all be careful. When not sure about a particular route, err on the side of caution. Better safe than sorry.

Hhm, for the good old days of rap...

Now we have peeps like Drake, Flo-rida, Rozay, even Nicki Minaj sef na rapper. SMH.

Well, whether Ricky depicted Naija as it is or he was outta line, a few questions linger though. For one after showing our slums, he ended up showing the "fans" who paid to go and see his show. Wonder how many tickets he gave out in the ghetto though? Also what was with the "militants" dancing around waving woden guns. Na so dem dey do am for Hollywood? He should have borrowed guns from his security details and given to those ghetto boys now. E for sabi am. Even boxer sef no go follow am comot for that area.

Rick Ross sir, if na person wey get plenty bia-bia I wan watch I for go buy Oliver De Coque VCD watch. Rap is truly dead. sad

boladez: Texazzpete ( I remember the superTed of those days with Nostalgia)

I have struggled to make sense out of your post laden with frustration and hate...it is well God will help you over come your pain and frustration

Yes, the commander erred big time by making a false claim because he was briefed wrongly. Are you aware that his men have been fired and will be tried because they misled him and the governor of the state and indeed the various people that had made comments based on his report? again this goes back to my initial remark about people watching movies only and not getting interested in real matters of life. I know because I got interested in the case and sent mails for which I got responses. Please read educational materials that will boost your KNOWLEDGE not vocabulary of swearwords.

O my Gosh, see news item below, The government of Lagos has put up so many road signs and depending on your eyesight or state of Mind, you may see or not see them. Please read educational and enlightenment materials! OPEN your mind to good things stop staying by the side to abuse and criticize.

http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=96970:lagos-installs-road-signs-cautions-cyclists&catid=1:national&Itemid=559

Tex, in developed climes (SIC) people see the road markings and obey and they do not need a LASTMA to run after them. They have cameras to catch offenders and track them to their homes. Does your house in tabon tabon have a street no? ..... but in Nigeria we are not ready. Again, stop watching movies that are based on fiction. Are you saying when a danfo guy beats the red light the lastma official should go and get a warrant from the court and run back to chase the guy to an unknown address in an unknown street? Vehicles registered outside lagos do not have their information in the lagos vehicle database and even the ones registered in lagos are difficult to track because we are not yet there in getting a national database. You Tex have woken up to abuse and insult and you seem so violent and you expect LASTMA to be civil. of course your cousin, bro, friend , wife , mum are the people in LASTMA not Fashola or Commisioner's children!

Are you aware that Lagos state is massively training the LASTMA guys to ensure they become more civil? see news item below? This has been ongoing if you can only stop watching action movies and watch news or read educational materials.

http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=98987:lagos-to-re-train-7-916-lastma-neighbourhood-watch-kai-officers-&catid=3:metro&Itemid=558

The road markings are in the highway code, have you seen one before? again for the past three months the commissioner for transport has been in the news and adverts have been in the media providing enlightenment, have you not seen or heard? of course you are permanently tuned to Africa magic and action on DSTV. Please read and know better! see news item below

http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php?option=com_content&id=96156:new-lagos-road-traffic-law-

Now, do you need LASTMA to teach you what the road markings and signs mean? did you do a driving test at all to get your DL , no! Blame LASTMA

Do we have bad eggs in LASTMA ...yes , is government trying to clean that up...yes, have they provided the public with means of seeking redress ....yes!! If they get violent with you , report and you have a right to complain if NOTHIng happens. You will help yourself a great deal if you read news, speak with positive people and drop poverty and victim mentality. if you have enough self confidence please call the commissioner and complain or demand to see the LASTMA commander and see if you will not get justice

This na early momo I no fit talk too much . I have a busy day ahead.

Half knowledge and a wrong orientation can ruin a nation which is what I see in your type.......are you in Nigeria at all? If you like call me prick , dolt, slowpoke , bush man or mad man or anything you like at all. I will not insult you cos if a man is having his bath and a mad man takes over his towel, you can risk chasing him and being called a second mad man or stay put and call for help. I choose to remain sane and civil.

Cheers
GBAM! Oro yen ni yen! That's the word bro.

2mch: You must be a slowpoke if you believe the OP. The fact is LASTMA is aggressive, but they don't chase you if you don't commit a crime. OP ran the red light and lied. They would have told him his offense. Those guys wait for you to offend and then chase your car and jump inside. I have been a victim. The OP is lying, you psychotic fellow. Oh sorry, you can't analyse a fairytale.

You will be surprised how many Lagosians did not bother to read or understand the new traffic laws. The thing Fashola needs to ensure is that they pay the exact fine. I settled mine for a price lower than the law states. People even bargain on how much they will pay. If you keep believing false tales and breaking the law, you will keep paying 30k, your head and eye go clear ni.
Thank you o 2mch. You know it is always amusing when people say they were stopped or harassed by LASTMA and they are always claiming innocence. I have been arrested by LASTMA twice and on both occasions I knew I was guilty. Once for facing oncoming traffic during a traffic snarl, and yes I was actually just heading for a junction off the main road which was a few meters away, but they sprang out from their hiding place and gbam straight to their office. The other occasion was on an environmental sanitation morning at 7.10Am. As an Omo Eko boy, sure I tried to drag with them and all and ended up settling, but to say I was arrested for nothing will be a big lie.

Even though the OP didn't state that he broke the law, I ask why exactly was he begging them. LASTMA officials can be a nuisance and are very corrupt but they only prey on people who break the law knowingly or unknowingly. Their methods are crude, but in truth if you educate yourself on traffic laws and exercise some patients, you are likely to avoid their wahala. Ignorance of the law you broke is no excuse o!

Politics › Re: Beautify Your Premises Or Go To Jail – Fashola by dabossman(m): 1:28pm On Sep 13, 2012
Rossikk: Fashola has no shame it seems. This is the same Lagos where streets are built with open drainage and no pedestrian sidewalks, (except on major highways). People forced to walk along sand and jumping gutters here and there. Has Fashoila never been abroad? Has he ever seen open gutter in his travels, or a street without a sidewalk or pavement? Why doesn't he start by FIRST ensuring that the streets are well constructed, before talking RUBBISH about peoples 'beautifying' their houses? Why should I bother 'beautifying' my 'premises' when my street is a mess?
Typical! Blame it on the government of the day. Did Fashola 'build' your street that has open drainage and no pedestrian sidewalk? or hasn't it been there for ages? is this this not the same Fashola administration that has repaired several roads in Surulere,Ikotun-Iyana Ipaja-Iyana Iba axis, Western Avenue, Idi-Araba, Shasha and so on and ensured that they have sidewalks and street lights? The same one that has built several bridges and pedestrian bridges and cleaned up Oshodi which none of us dared pass through before? The one who has consistently tried to give our derelict commercial city a facelift with green areas and parks?

And all they've asked us to do is play our own part as citizens by beautifying our own premises and we are grumbling. To whose benefit is it if your house looks presentable and well kept? You ask why you should bother beautifying your own premises? For the same reasons you take a bath everyday even though the government probably doesn't supply you water. For your own good.
Politics › Re: Beautify Your Premises Or Go To Jail – Fashola by dabossman(m): 11:13am On Sep 13, 2012
It is now obvious why we have a poor maintenance culture in this country. It obviously starts from the home. A landlord refuses to properly maintain and give his premises and it's surroundings a regular face lift and nobody sees anything wrong with that. Even the tenant who is paying through his nose annually is quite content to live in near squalor. it doesn't really matter after all. We even carry the same practice to our work places. Company property and equipment is usually used with great disregard. You should see company drivers at work. They are worse than danfo drivers. The company can afford to replace it anyway, especially since no one ever owns up to being the cause of the damage. We even treat government property with greater disdain.

And then we wonder why government doesn't maintain civic and government facilities properly? We wonder why our roads are filled with potholes, why our national stadiums are falling apart, why NEPA, Nigerian Airways, Nigerian Railways and many more government utilities and services are dead or almost comatose.

It's because the average Nigerian will grouch about maintain and beautifying his own premises. Surely you don't expect him to change when he gets into government?
Politics › Re: Beautify Your Premises Or Go To Jail – Fashola by dabossman(m): 7:04pm On Sep 12, 2012
pro01: Not so fast bros. Not anything can be criminalised, especially not in a democracy. The exercise of fundamental rights, within prescribed boundaries, for instance, cannot be criminalised - moreso as it is guaranteed by the constitution.

In any case, the constituion, as I'm very sure you know, is the grundnorm, which is superior to all other laws in the land. Since the constitution guarantees my personal liberty and freedom, I can argue that any law by a state government criminalising my refusal to 'decorate' my private residence is a negation of the constitution and is therefore null to the extent of it's inconsistency with the latter.

I think it's incorrect to suggest that anything is 'legal' simply because it has been passed into law. There is such a thing as an illegal law, and precedents/examples abound. If anyone has the time and resources to challenge this 'beautification' aspect of the new law, I reckon it would be easy to convince the courts that it violates constitutional provisions and is therefore unconstitutional. Fashola ought to know this. . .which I why I had to wonder how 'learned' he really is.
Oh, I do agree with you on many points. But the question is did Fashola and his government follow the constitutional regulations before these laws were passed? If yes, then by all means let those in opposition fight it through legal means. There are several sides to the law and interpretation is key. How does that make the man not learned? He has used legal means within the constitution and not arbitrary decrees. If the courts rule in his favour, flout those laws and see if you can pass it off as a violation of your constitutional rights, then as your neighbour I will tell you that your ugly, rodent infested building is an eye sore and an infrigement of my own constitutional rights.

I wonder what some people here are complaining about. Landlords are collecting from as little as N250k - to N800K or more in areas like Igando, Iyana Ipaja, Mushin, Agege, Isale Eko and so on for a 3-bedroom flat and they can't set aside some money to repaint and beautify their premises every 3-5years? Won't you want to live in a house that looks clean and presentable. Land developers are building estates all over the place with no drainage and basic road networks and we don't complain about that?

This same Fashola tried to put a law in place to get landlords to collect just a years rent and even tenants where saying it can never work. What is our problem. Let's get serious abeg. Abi suffer-head don enter our body so tey we no want better thing?

pro01: This man is fast becoming a lunatic, perhaps intoxicated by his executive powers as governor. I have since lost all regard for him. You can't just go about criminalising every ridiculous thing you deem fit. Not even in the heyday of Abacha's tyranny did we witness such reckless abuse of state power.

Smoking in my own car is now a criminal offence, refusing to wear an unhygenic and filthy public helmet when using an 'Okada' is now a criminal offence. Refusing to 'beautify' (by whose standards?) my own house is also now a criminal offence. Is this guy a bloody m0ron? I thought this oaf was supposed to be learned?
Actually, he is learned. Anything can be criminalized if backed by the law. Even whistling in a public place can become a criminal offense if passed into law. Governor Fashola is actually using his knowledge of the legal practice and constitution to create laws through the state legislature to achieve his governments goals. He is acting within the law. Sorry!
