Time to go and buy that fourth tire for my 1985 Toyota Cressida begin dey do kabu-kabu. If u don't mind the slow pace, the smoking exhaust and the intermittent 'bang' that strikes fear into Boko Haram, join me from Abule-Egba to Ajah every morning and night. Also make monthly subscription for a permanent seat. |
onatisi: 500 songs ?only you?and no album yet?bros sorry to say this but i think u need spiritual helpMy sentiments exactly. Plus, some people here need to grow a funny bone. Peeps are just teasing Mikel. Who told you its beef? Stop taking life too seriously. Mikel abeg, how about a duet with Tonto Dike? |
chrisley024: C'mon! must we always b scored ist?The thing don dey tire me o. |
Jarus: I am a regular okada patron, twice 'flew' it from VI to MMIA Ikeja to catch late flights, not to talk of the many times I had 'flown' it on Lekki-Ajah expressway to and from work. And therein lies the problem for most people. Do you know that this okada men that many are supporting here put a lot of taxi drivers and 'Kabukabus' out of business. I remember in the late 90's till early 2000's in my neighbourhood, you could get a kabukabu from the major highway into the inner streets. Today, those cabs don't exist anymore. Okadas took over because many people see them as a quick means of transportation. I used to leave home at about 7am to 'fly' a bike to work before. Now i leave an hour earlier to drive down. May this quick fix mentality not land people in Igbobi o! |
omosexy1: My Opinion - When people cry foul that the crime rate will increase, it then shows that okada riders are the criminals in Lagos. I choose not to believe this, criminals would be criminals (like the ones demolishing and burning social facilities in the state) and those who are not criminals will adjust to other occupations. We should consider our safety first. You put your life at risk by hopping on an okada regardless of the distance of your trip, you put your trust on a total stranger - his driving skills you are yet to ascertain, you increase your chances of being hospitalised because the chances of safety during a collusion is very low with okadas.I couldn't agree with you more. A lot of people said Lagos should be ready for an increase in the crime rate if Fashola goes ahead with clearing traders from Oshodi, Mushin and some other highways. Today the traders are off the highway and the crime rate is not any high than it was before then. If armed robbery was that easy some of us won't be working o! We'd just be carrying guns and robbing people. Besides, these guys had a chance to pick armed robbery before and chose okada business instead. They should just try and modify their route instead of becoming a public nuisance. Stop making it seem like every okada man is an armed robber. Some of them have other skilled jobs if you don't know. In truth, it is not the "poor" masses that ride Okadas on the highways, it is the working class. The average market woman or N18,00 minimum wage earner will never pay N400-500 to ride from Cele bus stop to Ikotun or Ijegun when she can take a bus at N100-150. They can't afford to take a bike from Abule-Egba to Oshodi or Ikeja Along every day of the week. Or ride from Ikeja to Obalande through third mainland bridge, or Ketu to Apongbon. They use danfo, molue and BRT. It's the pseudo-middle class that do that. I used to be like that, spending about 20-25K monthly biking to and from work, until I found myself sprawling on the floor after the okada I was on lost control one faithful morning. Thankfully, my backpack broke my fall and there was no car coming behind us. That day I asked myself a simple question; "What if I had a car, wouldn't I drive it through this traffic I say I'm trying to avoid everyday?" From then on I started leaving home very early, like car owners in my estate, so I could ride the bus to work. That was when I discovered how much I was spending monthly on my very dangerous habit. Today, I have a car and when okada men show me their "skills" on the road, I just wonder at the risk I was taking all those years before I saw the light. Entrusting my life to a total stranger who is most likely high on only God knows what. I shudder at the thought. |
honeric01: Why do you need a state of origin in the first place? if Nigeria is one as a country, why should i be asked which state i was born?Sadly, they don't even ask you which state you were born in. They ask you which state your great, great grandfather was born in. I've always said that state of origin is ridiculous. If we really want to claim state of origin, then maybe all Yorubas should be from Osun. After all they say that Oduduwa originated from Ile-Ife, right? I remember once during the Idi-Arabe riots between Hausas and Yorubas; this Hausa chap who was born in Lagos and spoke flawless yoruba was being harrased by one JJC who just arrived from Ogbomoso 2 months before with a thick "s" in place of "ch/sh" factor. The Ogbomoso guy was claim to be a son of the soil because he was Yoruba. I just shook my head cos I could bet that the Hausa guy would loose the Ogbomoso guy in an instance if they were to take a tour of Lagos. Pls scrap state of origin and replace it with place of birth or residence. |
And when some of us here on NL try to advice our young Nigerian musicians and actors to be careful how they spend money on frivolities and unnecessary hype, we are labelled "haters". "Leave them alone jor", the apologists yell. "Is it your money?" "Go and make your own and stop beefing." I wonder how many of our "superstar" celebrities can boast of having made $350m in their entire career. So, if you feel that "small change" you are making from shows and Nollywood movies, or telecoms endorsements can never run out, think again. There were some folks in the limelight before you. Where are they today? |
There is one thing I know as a fact. In the last 12 years, Yoruba men have governed yoruba states, Igbomen have governed Igbo states and the Hausaman has governed Hausa states, yet not much has changed. By all means, let's keep blaming the Hausa man, let's blame the civil war, blame Awo, blame Ojukwu, heck, let's blame the British colonialists. But remember, it is our kinsmen who are governors, senators, house of reps members etc right now, and they are bleeding us dry while they feed fat. Oh wait, PDP is to blame for that right? |
Hehehe..., nice jab, even if its below the belt. Personally, I think too many peeps, including you OP, are too attached to your phones. Its just a gadget. It does nothing for your status. That's just an illusion. Get over it. I even hear some folks say they can't do without their phones. Err, except you are 11 yrs old and under, you once did without it. You still can. Don't be a phone junkie. |
Hhm, typical of Nigerians, hail you today, nail you tomorrow. Its the way we treat all our icons. It is only when they die that we roll out the superlatives. Ask Rashidi Yekini. To all the infants here who don't know Kwam 1, keep enjoying ur pakurumo and damiduro. 10 yrs from now some kid will be asking u 'who the hell is Whizkid or Davido'. Even Tuface and D'Banj will not be spared. Its the Nigerian way. |
I keep wondering what all this being yourself thing is about. Where exactly is the room for what is wrong and what is right? Should we start applauding fraudsters, rapist, pedophiles, serial killers and so on because they are just beinh themselves? I guess we should all apologize to the Aluu community since they were just being themselves. They did what they did and got global publicity right? Its seems we celebrate popularity and money nowadays more than we celebrate doing what's right. And we complain about Nigeria? Smh. |
SlyIg: I said it ... I knew it... Millions of downloads within 24hrs. She drew everyone's attention and ask me what happened? She got all d attention she needed! Hahahahahahahahaha... But she still has a lot to learn maybe for her next life's stardom if there will be any -MANNERS n RESPECT! I wish she had half of this attention in a positive way. Controversial little idi0t like her! There is good "attention" and then there is bad "attention". Go and ask the people of Aluu. Not all publicity is beneficial. |
Pls I need d maggie e book.my email is siyoha2000@yahoo.com |
What part of Igando pls? |
justwise: You don't see anything wrong in cheating the system? Was the maid qualified for visa? They lied about the number of months they have employed her, the same people who are supposed to prevent fraud are engaging in one. That was the crime. You're right on the money. It's quite shameful. |

We don jam for Champions Planet before. Na Chelsea fan. E for tell me say him need nanny, I for don borrow am Akosia for village for 250GBP sef. Yeye. |
truthisbitter: LWKMD! Mrs. Chima is now claiming to be employed. Since when has being on welfare become a job? Guy, abeg leave Mrs. Chima alone o! At least she sef dey receive cheque on the regular. All join. |
dewize01: Mrs chima, that aspect of you both contributing is amazing. I wonder how many women would allow that and still not feel that authority be shared between the two of them in the house. How are you sure Mrs. Chima doesn't have a daily roster that details what house chores her husband MUST do everyday? Chei! I don go find trouble o! |
mekaboy: IF WE ARE TO GO WITH YOUR EXAMPLE, NIGERIANS SHOULD NOT HAVE PROTESTED THE FUEL SUBSIDY REMOVAL. BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THEIR BOSS THE GOVT COMMANDED.I'm sorry but you don't have a point and your analogies are not relevant. The reason those Uniport students are dead is because laws are not being obeyed. If the Police had been doing their job of enforcing the existing laws, the people of Aluu wouldn't have resulted to jungle justice but would have simply handed them to the relevant authorities. Laws must be enforced otherwise people will do as they wish. Should we wait until an Okada man runs a redlight and kills someone and an angry mob begin to attack every okada man in sight before we regulate their activities? Even the Lagos traffic law can be contested if you feel you've been wronged. Why didn't those bike men wait and legally make their point? Don't they have a Union that can fight for them? Where the protests against fuel subsidy removal unlawful? Did we break any laws by going on strike or going on lawful protests? Even a person sentenced to death for murder can appeal. Would you allow a doctor who has been criminally negligent to keep his license because you don't want to take away his livelihood? Would you do the same for a policeman who is caught committing a crime? Or doesn't he have a family to feed too? I'm sure if they dismissed all the policemen who were on duty on that fateful day in Aluu, and who did nothing to save those boys, you would applaud. Guess what? They can turn to armed robbery too. Let's put sentiments aside. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. |
: klas: Hope a committee will not be set up on October 31 2012 to decide whether to return the silver medal on November 1. A very possible scenario. |
sashaa: What nonsense is this, biko? I am from anambra and we have no such culture. What baffles me more is ur husbands stance on the issue. What sort of man subscribes to his wife being belittled? You know, I totally like chics like you. Are you single? Can we get married? I hope it's okay for me to call you parents by their first names though? I don't believe in all that dad and mom rubbish, after all they are your parents not mine. The best I can do is call them Mr. X and Mrs X. All these backward Nigerian traditional rubbish sef. Oyinbos call their father-in-laws by name jor. |
To every man his own. If that will ensure peace in your home please do it. It won't kill you; maybe just bruise your ego a little. That said, what were you calling them before you got married? You know if you called them 'Aunty' when you were "deeply in love" don't think you can just change now o! ![]() I sometimes address people younger than me as 'sir' or 'ma' during conversation or just to be polite, even when they are just acquaintances I have no loyalties to. It doesn't make me less than them. And usually they tend to reciprocate. Lastly, women are the ones who usually seem to have this issue. They have no problem calling a male friend by name, even when he is 5-10 years older than them, yet they can't stand it when a another lady they are 2-5 years older than calls them by name. Now, why is that? Hhm... |

Can I ask you some more question mekaboy? Do you work for an organization, whether public or private sector? Do you get to work early because the company policy says 8AM? Do you maybe wear a suit Monday-Thursday because that is the rule? Do you obey all other regulations within the organization knowing fully well that flouting them brazenly may eventually result in loosing your means of livelihood? If you and I can do it, why do some people feel they are above simple traffic laws? |
mekaboy: there are more unemployed than okada riders. and the govt has added extra 3000 to that number. the effect of unemployment in nigeria is worse than all the okada accidents in a year.Yes, and mine is that we already have millions who are unemployed and to use you calculations, if 10% of them are into armed robbery then none of us should be sleeping at night now. In fact, robberies should be happening on every street corner every 5mins by now if that were the case. So, is it this 3,000 (or 300 as you stated) that will turn Lagos on it's head? Besides should we allow lawlessness to continue for fear of more lawlessness? This is the same way they shouted that removing traders from the streets of Oshodi would increase crime rate. People with the tendency to commit armed robbery will only use okada riding as a day job. True hustlers move from one legit business to another. I've been without a job before too and casual work was my first option not armed robbery. |
mekaboy: Who said Nigerians are not law abiding? You see this is the very mentality that makes Nigerians break laws. How is wearing a helmet, not driving against traffic, observing speed limits, driving carefully, obeying traffic lights, using a seatbelt, using a pedestrian bridge, not driving on the kerb and so on more beneficial to the government than the people involved? What infrastructure do you need to obey these laws? But that mentality that it is 'them' vs. 'we' makes people unnecessarily break laws that are basically just common sense. |
mekaboy: OH GREAT, THOSE LIVES ARE NOW FREE NOW ABI?, WONT THEY STILL DIE IN THE HANDS OF ARMED ROBBERS AND KIDNAPPERS, THAT WERE ONCE SELF EMPLOYED WITH OKADA?In your honest opinion, right now in Nigeria, are there more Okada men than there are unemployed youths? |
sylve11: And if accident is ur point, what do u think of 2 molues colliding each other and everybody in each of the molues kpeme? And how often do you see that happen? |
omar22: Its called obeying the law, its not that they seize the bikes willy Nilly, this is done all over the worldThank you sir! We Nigerians always feel these things don't happen elsewhere. Try eating and driving in the State of California and see what will happen. |
naptu2: I've been studying these options for a long time. The thing tire me too. Nigeria's biggest problem is it's people. From thence the government emerges. Are LASTMA officials not our own people? The same poor masses. Are those charging N200 before selling fuel to you from their pumps that are already dispensing below a litre not part of us? Does the government fix house rent rates for landlords? Do they increase bus fares just because it rained? NO! Our dog eat dog mentality is what is killing us as a nation. Our leaders are just products of the larger society. They are who we are. |
Sarcoc: When they say people are uncivil one often wonders what is meant - this notion that armed robbery is the right substitute for not having an okada is an epitome of in civilisation & this is not intended to slight your opinion in any way!GBAM! Right on the money! Such thinking is almost similar to the notion that killing and burning people for armed robbery (proven or not) is the substitute for an ineffective police and justice system. |
mekaboy: [b]THE ISSUE IS NOT BREAKING THE LAW, THE ISSUE IS HOW YOU ARE CORRECTED IN NIGERIA. IN THE WESTERN WORLD, WHEN SOMEONE REPORTS YOU TO THE POLICE, AND THEY COME TO ARREST YOU, THEY QUIETLY INVITE YOU TO THE STATION AND READ YOUR RIGHTS TO YOU.I agree. I have been to the Police Station before (for no clear-cut offense) and I have been to LASTMA office before (for breaking traffic laws), and you know what I concluded? It is much easier to obey the law, no matter how inconvenient it seems. That 5K, no be small change o bros, not to talk of paying 20-30K which the new laws stipulate for some offenses. |
