everyone has the dvds. just like they had ps1 cd's. The lack of interest just prolly shows a general lack of interest in the console itself, (as an emulation platform, not generally).

Another possible explanation is that cpu power has not grown at the pace it was growing in the late 90's, so pcs powerful enough to make it workable are not widespread. It may also be that sony got smart and used fewer documented parts to build the console, like nintendo did with gba, making it almost impossible to emulate at high speed despite being so old/slow.

Food and shelter are pretty easy to come by in modern times, (in the sense of food = enough not to starve, shelter = no wild animals to come tear u to pieces) therefore we are preoccupied by the insatiable need for sex. No wahala. I have friends that have a similar inclination as regards games- visuals first. And to be honest, visuals have come a long way.

Its just that I was raised on pure gameplay, having cut my teeth on games that were made during the times of ridiculously simple visuals. And perhaps it is just me, because I was interested in pen/paper gaming with books and dice before I discovered computers.

If one values gameplay, one usually sees past the smiling mushrooms and simple graphics to the treasure of gamplay that lies within nintendo's creations.

I expect ps2 emulation to prolly pick up speed next year. Afterall full speed dreamcast emulation is possible so the ps2 can't be far off. Its the pcsx2 people who are purposefully moving slowly, kinda like what the icarus and chankast people did as per the DC. when ps3 takes over they will attack it with a vengeance.

Or the ps2 may just be a ridiculously complex lump of tangled spaghetti and they cant be bothered to optimize. No ps2 emulation till "core 5 menage a trois", then.


Web server on series 60 phone? How do we connect to it? bluetooth PAN? wap? i imagine gsm providers charges are too high for the web server to be kept up long, ne? and my ngage didnt support PAN connections, well, what do I know.

counterstrike engine that plays id games? I guess its a linux thing since it is on linux. Anyway on a related note I finally got counterstrike condition zero to install on my pc. Whoa! counterstrike is the SHIZNITS! doesnt require as much skill as quake, but it is cool!

Then ure friends with like 99.9% of the people who have played it!

In my series 60 days I played a native port of doom. I'm sure you can find it easily, much faster than 7fps. I played it on my 3650 and later my ngage (now of blessed memory). Only prob was it only played shareware doom1 (knee deep in the dead), none of this tnt evilution/plutonia stuff.

I got pspdoom working on my psp shortly after buying it, works fine with both tnt and plutonia! cant wait to get a bigger memstick so i can get down to some serious fragging!

As for me, I dont really think playing mario games makes me a childish or retarded person. It just means I dont take my games too seriously, at least not as seriously as I took them like 5 years ago when i kept trying to prove to people that games arent for kids. Nowadays I cant care less what the next guy thinks. Games are TOO popular, the masses are diluting them, so If they want to go away thinking the games are childish, I'll gladly hold the door open!

Nowadays I want games that will relax or excite me, and otherwise make me happy. Wiping out the alien scum in Prey makes me happy. (YEAH!!!) blowing the heads of worthless unworthy competitors in quake3 deathmatch makes me happy (SUCK IT DOWN!!!!). And wiping out previous level completion times on the fast doomship on mario3 (via psp) makes me happy, too!

By the way, sony has already filed a patent for a wii-ripoff, using eyetoy technology and a 'wand' like device. So soon your precious ps3 may become a gimmick too, mmm?

till this day i find myself tinkering obsessively with slow emulators, tweaking away and smiling warmly when i get a good framerate at low frameskip, and losing interest entirely as soon as the thing starts to work! Its an addiction I tell u. Unhealthy. My younger brother was the first to notice. Told me i spent too long tinkering with obscure emulators and never even played all the thousands of roms i amassed.

I really knew it was getting out of hand when i grew obsessive about linux, and spent entire days bashing away at command lines trying to get some obscure thing or another to work. internet access, ipod access, SMB access, emulators, xgl, quakeforge, quake2, quake3, UT on linux, acrobat reader, umbrello, *sigh*

I outgrew the linux tinkering, sha. And i cant be bothered with ps2 emulation. However the PSP has reawakened the emu bug, but this time i actually play the games! :-)

As for aiming for younger players, Nintendo isnt just aiming for them. they are aiming for female gamers, non-gamers, lapsed gamers. And one thing u may forget- a lot of lapsed gamers were hardcore just 5 years ago, but work and family took over.

sony leapfrogged nintendo when ninty failed to realise that we, the nintendo generation, had grown up and were now tweens and young adults. Now nintendo may take back the crown if sony doesnt realise that we are all getting jobs and families.

the new generation of hardcore gamers are a fickle bunch, I think. They dont have the patience and dedication that we had. thats one theory i have as to why fighting games are falling in popularity- they dont want to learn a game, they just want to mash buttons. If sony is betting on them, they may find they are eating leftovers from nintendo's kiddy N64 customers, who do not respect the games they play.

Mmm. In any case i still believe that it is too sensitive an issue to make a game out of. Like making a game out of the Rwandan genocide. You will have to either misrepresent the facts, or risk stepping on many toes!

someone somewhere said something about getting 14fps on some game using pcsx2. I went "Huh?!??!" and downloaded the latest version. Yet to try it out on my radeonx800xt-equipped rig, but I have no high hopes. Anyway if it is any good, I can then recommend it to all those who just wont stop clamoutong for ps2 emulation!

A survival game based on the biafran war will cast the player as a Biafran. What then happens when u finish the game? Biafra wins? how farfetched is that.

I still maintain that the war was more of a slaughter than a war. Of course in the beginning the battle woild be 'joined', but if you read about the war you'll find out that the battles were just defeat after crushing defeat. The biafrans had no mechanized armour and equipment that hardly worked, plus most of the soldiers did not have guns, and those that did has limited ammo!

The biggest problem the Nigerian forces had was the soldiers being unwilling to go risk their lives in combat, because there was simply no percieved threat to livelihood, only the immediate threaqt of being the unlucky guy who gets shot! That war should never have happened in the first place.

I wouldnt want to play a game based on that war. At least ww2 has been romanticised into a victory of the poor outnumbered goodguys against a crushing war machine (A lie. the allies eventually outproduced hitler and overwhelmed him with superior numbers and force. ), so we can delude ourselves into enjoying it and laughing at people dying with 'germanglish' screams of pain

There are two reasons why the game would end up being anti-igbo:

1) A game that casts the player as a Biafran is on such a slippery slope as regards Nigerian law and treason that it will be very risky to cast the player as such, similar to how early ww2 games never let you play as a Nazi, and 9/11 period mideast games never let you play as an Iraqi (all changed now, thank Ghod, wrt Iraqis in battlefield 2)

2) If you represent the armies accurately, you'll end up in a scenario where the Biafrans have almost no hope of victory, in line with what I said earlier about 'deranged madmen'. If you read up the history of the war, you'll see it for what it was. Before the war even started, weapons and arms were relocated from the east, the eastern governments were starved of wealth and supply lines were blocked. The war was over before it even started. It lasted so long because of the overconfidence of the Nigerian forces, and their delay in storming Enugu. even then, the prolonged 'war' was just prolonged suffering for the Biafran people.

It was NOT a war. it was just a mass slaughter of misled and misguided individuals. The Nigerian army did not win due to superiority or being bvetter fighters or whatever. The Nigerian army won because they did not have an opponent.

I would never endorse a game based on such slaughter. Its like saying we should make a game of the holocaust or the scramble for Africa.

on a related note, r u an FPS tanner, texas pete? If you are, then maybe we should play quake 3 sometime. In case you're wondering, Ive beaten Xaero on Nightmare. Not a huge achievement, I know, but I just thought to mention it,

Also, do NOT play fear using the stealth style. YOU HAVE TO RUN AND GUN OR YE SHALL DIE. if u need fear, i have the full version of that, too.
(actually the above statement isnt entirely true, u can still survive on stealth, but u will progress slowly and die like a million times per level. Boring!!!!! fear is a fast-action game.)

what i mean is that pci express is an interface for many types of expansion card, not just graphics. what this means is that unlike with intel igfx boards where they could afford to fashi the agp slot because they had already dashed u a fake igfx 'card', this time they cannot, so u will always have the option to upgrade. The good thing about faster igfx is that joe user pc's that would usually be 2d-only will be able to at least ;launch games, meaning more game-capable poc's for ya lan party!

the issue is not that i need help with a problem. The issue is that THE PROBLEM WAS THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE and IT HAD A NONTRIVIAL SOLUTION THAT WAS ONLY POSSIBOLE BECAUSE I HAVE LINUX EXPERIENCE AND LOVE THE COMMAND LINE.

I had lots of fun battling slackware because of my radeon 9200se. Fun before that battling red hat 9 on my geforce2 mx with the horrible nv driver.

Linux is great for techie heads, but NOT for end-users.

Ubuntu is cute, but i was dismayed to find some of the same issues I left behind with slackware 10.1 still existing, despite all the hype.

initial boot of live CD = black screen of death and NO keyboard control whatsoever = HARD REBOOT and me looking like a complete fool in front of the person I was trying to convert.

turns out that the default radeon driver in xorg.conf is idiotic and does not like the 9200SE. solution? special boot to runlevel 3, pico /etc/X11/xorg.conf, search for ATI, change to vesa, launch runlevel 5.

every frickn time you boot (live cd)

all in front of some dude laughing his head off and claiming 'i told u. all this rubbish DOS nonsense u have to do in order to use linux, '

damn! I'd have thought they would have at least fixed X by now, or come up with some sort of recovery mode a la windows.
