people like macs because

1) they are not gamers (Macs are absolute and total rubbish when it comes to games)
2) they are not power users (They prefer software that 'just works' and hate flexibility and configurability)
3) they hate computer hardware (They like the way apple hides the true nature of the machine behind a shiny, glossy exterior and tries to pretend that things like RAM and internal bus standards/driver revisions do not exist)
4) they don't care about sharing information (an open document standard is an oxymoron when 99.9999% of the people on the face of the earth have access to a different format)
5) they are GOOD PEOPLE who do not pirate software
6) they believe in security by obscurity (macs are only considered secure because they are not being targeted by hackers and virus writers. At defcon early this month hackers showed how to own a macbook via wireless via a driver bug! DRIVERS!!!!!!)
7) the most important one- THEY ARE RICH. yes, mac users are rich. you have to be rich to justify a 100% price increase for an inferior (performance-wise) product for the benefit of usability, which is a luxury.


Computers are complex, people. Learn how to use them. Install Linux and understand the machines you wish to use. Dont cover your eyes and pretend you are using a computer when fooling aroubnd on a mac!!!!

As far as I know, 'Akata' is not a derogatory term, I noticed it as a term used on naijaryders.com to refer to US or UK-born Nigerians- and in a friendly way (akatas call themselves akatas, )

As per xbox360 hacking, u know those guys can copy games already? unfortunately the flashing procedure requires a PC, downloaded software and some skills that the alaba boys may not warm to. Also, it requires a 360 with two specific brands of DVD drive, a hole microsoft will soon close.

however it means that if one buys a 360 NOW, we could probably be among the lucky few to enjoy pira 360 games. w00000t,

Personally, I don't buy electronics at launch.

I only just upgraded to a prescott when conroe was released. I will definitely get a conroe, but in one and a half years time, and I know which one I will get already (middle-range today)

I never bought a console at launch. I buy video cards 2 generations down the line. I got my PSP 2 yrs after launch (this year). These are all things I *knew* I would get, but I always waited. Not an arbitrary amount of time, like 'until the price comes down' or whatever, but a fixed length of time, then I assume whatever it costs at that time is what it is worth.

If I decide to get a ps3, I will be buying it in mid-2008. If it really is a flop, it will cost $50 then. If it is a hit like ps2, it will still be expensive (like ps2).

Now, to the point: Wii is the only thing I have EVER contemplated picking up at launch. And this is for one reason only,

Yes, it has gotten me into an irrational state of anticipation. I just feel excited in a childish sort of way, and it is something I havent felt in a looooooooong time! And the price point just makes it more attractive.

He had to pay that much because of launch scarcity. Dont be naive, you will probably not be able to find a system at launch for that price AND ship it to te country without racking it up something wicked.

Let me first issue a disclaimer: I am all for the propagation of the human race! I think Children are lovely because they like Mario and thats so sweet! Now, with that said, I believe, madam, that 12 children is a tad excessive, and, considering this is a forum read by Nigerians, who are at the moment by and large unable to properly support families greater than 5, I think we should not encourage such oversized families.

Ferdimako's 2-child limit is a bit extreme (Afterall this aint china, we don't have an overpopulation problem here, just widespread poverty, not the same thing, we got lots of space but no money, ) but please do not buy into the mindset that says we can have as many children as we want as long as it makes us happy.

There are many things that would make us happy, that we have to forgo for the sake of responsibility. You may want to give your evil bastard boss a black eye at work, but that would be irresponsible. Similarly it is irresponsible to have children indiscriminately, even if you think you can support them (No man knows tomorrow)

lol! A few years back one guy at oshodi almost dumped a dreamcast on me for free. I went there to buy a gameboy colour for my little brother, and it was sold at close to the same price! However the lil tyke was sold on pokemon, so we had to overlook it. (Besides they had the special pikachu edition of pokemon yellow. Who can resist such an opportunity to make an impression on one so young?)

like I said earlier, the wii is the only console im thinking of getting. I wont bother with ps3 or xbox360 until they are hacked to the extent that i can play pira games and dump iso's on the hard drives. Also, I dont plan on getting one of those ridiculously expensive hdtv's for another 5 years at least, so the extra graphical power of x360 and wii is wasted on me. I may borrow a console from friends, but buy? HAH!

Aaaah, the ever present hardcore vs casual. In my mind, hardcore car enthusiasts are the guys who buy primera's and soup them up with sentra parts to build customized powerhouses, or who buy civic's and strip em to the bone for super drift power.

You obviously think the guy who buys a $100,000,000,000,000 bmw 15 series just because he read i a mag that it has 2 more horsepower than the 14.9999 series is 'hardcore'. I call him a 'great consumer' .

As for the women saying they wont do it, I know that it is possible. It is true that the kids in year one are not guided properly. I was a victim of this. Everyone who had done like 2 yrs in yabatech while rewriting JAMB did very well in my year 1. However in my set, there were very few of us as young as I was, most of us didn't reveal our ages because there was a lot of age discrimination going on then. There was also beef, cos a lot of people had tried for years to get into the school. So you see why the thought of a 15 year old freshman is intriguing to me.

Facts straight, man: Res4 was a gamecube exclusive, and was far superior visually to the ps2 version (mr graphics fan! ) . Gameplay-wise they were identical.


Secondly, Backwards compatibility is not for the benefit of the hardcore. The hardcore will buy 3 versions of the console just to play multiple regions in a case where a modchip does not exist (eg gamecube) so theres no need to strap a new console with kludges to play prehistoric games when your customer probably has 10 ps2's already anyway. Backwards compatibility is for the casual gamer who will ask 'uuuuh, duuuuh, its playstation abi? so I can play my toshinden on it abi?'


Finally if you say casual gamers will go for the cheaper machine think again. Casual users of ANY technology are the PRIMARY MARKET for the overpriced 'something shiny!' models. Hardcore geeks are the BANE of consumer electronics vendors because they agonize over little details and absolutely do not want to pay more than is neccesary, eccept when it is neccesary (eg getting a console at launch)
