Then as for hl2 killing your PC, believe-that is what happened. My radeon 9200 died because of HL2. Actually it died because of NEPA, but it only went crazy when hl2 caused it to spin its fan up to max power. My old PSU also died because of HL2- power overload when i plugged in a 9800 to handle the game. Then My old 100gig hard drive went berserk due to the PSU's instability.

episode 2 isnt out yet, episode 1 is very much out, but why dont u actually buy episode 2? I think its a good deal: there are four (FOUR) games built into the original DVD, plus STEAM membership which has many benefits. It will be out next month and pc outlet will probably carry it for 8k or something. sounds like much, but d=for hl2, eps1,eps2, team fortress and cs:source plus the ability to download and play thousands of FREE mods, dont u think it beats otigba combat? be aware you'll need an internet connection to enable it though.

The reason why i have been bragging about killing you with so much confidence is because I know for a fact that I will, simply because i went through a long gruelling learning process with Q3 that resulted in me developing the skills neccesary to face the bots equally on nightmare difficulty. I have no problems against bots on any map on hardcore, and I have finished the game once on nightmare. Please practice on the dredwerkz, and daemia/hossman on tier 2. Also aim to beat ranger consistently on hardcore. Once u get to that level, your speed will be such that you will realise *why* i can be such a cocky arrogant arse-hole about winning on UT

finally, as per graphics, I think your P may be the issue. UT looks better on low end PCs, while Q3 is optimized for fast graphics accelerators. Design and art- wise, UT is clearly superior, but technically Q3 has far superior graphics.

Hmmm. considering I have a 360 already, I wouldnt turn a ps3 down as a gift, if only for ninja gaiden sigma.

However if I didnt have a console, and I wouldnt be able to afford one, I'd go for a 360 any day. At least if i decide i want a ps3 later, i can sell it at close to costprice and buy one. However trying to sell a secondhand ps3 is madness, everyone's keeping away from it at the moment.

At the moment, 360 is far ahead of both the wii and ps3 in sales and instal base. The ps3 has had almost a year under its belt and has not matched 360's performance same time last year. Making matters worse, 360s are selling at a faster rate than ps3, widening the gap even further. The wii is selling faster than 360, but hasnt caught up yet, and anyway is in a different market.

In short, if you want a console that is guaranteed to be relevant for the next 2 years, go for 360.

Ps3 could drop dead any day now. Ken kutaragi has been fired from sony for messing it up, and already kaz hirai has annoyed ps3 owners by dropping the price less than a year after launch. Also, he is downgrading the ps3 hardware so new ps3's are actually lower value.

Making matters worse, almost every ps3-specific game announced at launch has moved over to the 360. Only a few are still ps3-exclusive. However there ae many 360 games that are not on ps3.

Making matters even worse, the games out at the moment are superior on 360, despite ps3's supposed greater power. developers claim the ps3 is difficult to program. If you remember, the saturn was more powerful than the ps1 but games were always better on ps1 because the saturn was so hard to program.

Yet another point against the ps3 is EA sports an 2K games claiming that all sports games will be 60 frames per second on 360 and 30 fps on ps3. In short, 360 versions will be more powerful- and this is for future games. The ps3 has issues with texture memory, it seems.

So far, only one game looks like it will be better looking on ps3- burnout paradise. We are all waiting eagerly for this so we can finally see what the ps3 is supposedly able to deliver.

Even MGS4 may move to 360- Kazui mentioned that the price drop of ps3 was too little and he may consider 'taking some steps' to widen the audience.

Devil may cry 4 and GTA4 are already on 360, with special 360-only features.

Only someone who is completely ignoring the game market nowadays will claim the ps3 is a beter buy than the 360.



Points in favour of the ps3:

1) ps2's are still being bought. There is still the (remote) possibility that many ps2 owners may yet upgrade. Hopefully the price will come down by then

2) Blu-ray. The ps3 is the cheapest bluray player out there. But to benefit from bluray you need a bigscreen Hi-def tv and expensive bluray movies.

3) Hard drive. The 360 has a hard drive also, but MS has restrictions on hpow it can be used because not all 360s come with a hard drive. The ps3 has a hard drive compulsorily so its likely some games will benefit.None have as yet, though.

4) Blu-ray for games. The bluray means in theory, bigger games can be made for ps3 than 360. But thats just theory. So far, nothing has been made that doesnt fit nicely on a 360 DVD9.


So there you have it. 360 beats ps3 any day.perhaps in 1 years time ps3 may catch up, but for now 360 is where the joy is at.

At the moment, the ps3 is the worst performing of all three new consoles, and almost all games are better on the 360. Hopefully burnout paradise will be better on ps3, but that remains to be seen.

why?

online gaming is not bandwidth dependent. Its latency dependent. And in Nigeria we have low latency connections to EVERYWHERE, even locally, because we dont have a proper IXP for the country.

No matter how high the bandwidth, your latency will still be dismal.

A friend told me he was seeing sub 60ms pings at RELTEL head office. whether this carries over to their consumer lines remains a mystery, but beware, 60ms is still dismal as far as online gaming goes. And remember, your opponents latency will add up to make yours a trul miserable gaming experience.

In short- forget online gaming in 9ja, at least for now. If we get an ixp, then online pc gaming will become a reality. XBOX LIVE will still remain a pipedream however, unless we get regional servers, which is unlikely.


As a result, i probably wont be spending loads of money to get SC4, or any other fighting game for that matter. DOA4 is sufficient for now, and not even the mighty silicone infusion namco has pumped into the bazooka-like breasts of Ivy can lure me to SC.

Thats the problem I have with tekken, why i dont play at an expert level anymore.

Its all about the routines and patterns. Tekken is at a point where you have to cram the best routines and bust them out like clockwork or you'll just get killed even by someone who isnt paying attention. It doesn't challenge the raw skill, reflexes and reactions of the player until 2 people of equal experience are playing, and even then, after 30mins when una don learn each others game it just becomes a boring stalemate.

In streetfighter, there were many excellent routines and paterns, but your delivery mattered- be even 1 millisecond off in your input and you'd fail. this meant that someof the best patters were so hard to do the risk was high, and easy patterns were usually not very good but 'safe'. So at the end, the more skilful player wins, not just the guy that spent hours jacking cheat books and move lists. Look at guile. just 2 moves but the strategies can fill a book.

That's why I prefer faster games like soulcalibur,VF and DOA4. in those games, delivery and risk+reward have a higher premium. DOA is my favourite because it has a HIGH element of PURE LUCK that means even a novice can give a pro a challenge. of course this means it is useless as a serious tournament game but in these days when its so hard to find people who play fighting games, its better than just sitting down, bored, killing everybody on tekken then one guy comes on holiday from kafanchan and uses yoshimitsu to terrorise u for 1 day.

There are many times ive gone to game-houses or 'chambers' where the players were all obviously so much better than me but i kept killing them just because i was using xiaoyu routines they were not familiar with. Of course once they start to get the gist I'd have some important thing to do elsewhere

on soulcalibur however, if someone is better than me they will kill me regardless of 'strategy'. if u can GI you can GI and SC is all about reactions. Even if a guy doesnt know your routines, he can read you by looking at the animation of your character. THAT is soulcalibur.

When I first read this thread the general vibe was

'we appear to be stingy because life here in the UK is hard, and hectic, with no time for yourself and everything locked to a busy schedule, and our #3000 salaries are slashed to #900 by all the horrible bills and charges and taxes we have to pay, so we arfe suffering and cant afford to treat you guys as poor cousins!'

I then asked why a person would stay in the UK when life there is so hard and impossible. There were a few replies, but the general vibe became

'we stay here because life is more stable and secure, there are more personal comforts, getting a good car, tv, etc is much easier- infrastructure is better and life is i general much more rewarding'

Of course, since no-one on this thread has anything to gain by confusing the masses, the reason for this is obviously my own lack of knowledge. Please help me rectify this by answering these little questions?

a) When you say you are strangled to an inch of your life by utility bills and taxes, would you say that at the end of the day you have more actual cash in hand than you would if you were in Nigeria, doing the same amount of work?

Please take into account that most jobs worth having in 9ja force you to keep insane hours.
Also understand that taxation and utility bills in 9ja are either so tiny as to be insignificant, or easily dodged, so you get to keep most of your salary.
Factor in the cost of Generator fuel, etc when comparing your electricity utility bills, and the cost of police bribes when comparing car insurance, documentation, etc.


b) Some people complain about car insurance. Would you say that, considering the price of purchase/upkeep of similar cars in Nigeria, you are paying *more* or *less* than the guy who buys his car and uses it in Nigeria?



Please answer these. It will help add some perspective to the many valid points raised here.

Female characters are my first choice, because my top character in streetfighter is, has always been and will forever remain Chun-li. Other fighting games just copy her style (speed, agility, quick grabs, low power) and so, I usually know that when i pick a female chara, I'm essentially using chul-li.

Because I need to 'show' people who just depend on cheap overpowered characters who's boss, I also play Ryu, and I choose the 'clones' of him in other fighting games as my 'backup' for when someone appears who chunli/chunli clone just cant beat. This means the mishimas in tekken, the ninjas in mortal kombat/doa4. In short, the boring characters!

To all the suffering, struggling, one-room-apartment-living, hypertnsive, miserable, over-taxed, slave-driven Janded Nigerians out there.
