Romance / Re: No Finance, No Romance! by dakmanzero(m): 12:20pm On Sep 20, 2007
@na2day and apache:

Dudes better stop fighting before oga admin bans you. You are cluttering the board with meaningless arguments

@apache77:
you feel that going to clubs, splashing money and picking up girls who would take more of that money is any different from just picking up a hoe? I'm not saying the girls are evil, or have AIDS, or are unattractive. I'm saying they are hoes. Plain and simple. I have nothing against hoes and the guys thap patronize them! Its like buying a luxury car, or fine clothes. Having a cream, Behind, bombshell of a hoe on your arm is a sure sign of financial success!!!!!

But just as a BMW is a BMW, a hoe is a hoe. Simple.

@ anyone new who didnt see my original post, here it is, before you respond to me without thinking:

The responses of the majority of naija women here have convinced me of one thing.

'They r all hoes'

To some extent or another, *almost*nevery woman in this dreadful country is a prostitute. It's just a question of when she takes the money (upfront or later, cash or kind (gifts, free transport, etc)), and whether or not shes smart enough to get you to sign an agreement to keep giving her money till the day you die (marriage)

this also goes for those in yankee. In fact over there its worse, as far as I have seen.

However,whenever I go to the UK or someone living there comes to visit, its always so striking how they are completely unimpressed they are by any display of wealth. It seems as if the mentality of women there is different. Yet another reason why it is most likely I will end up marrying someone who grew up in jand. The LovePeddler mentality is just irritating.

disclaimer: not all the women fall into thi category of course. but the vst majority do, so if your one of the exceptions, sorry, statistics are against you

@na2day:

Dont hate on guys who like to spend money on women. Its perfectly legitimate. And many 9ja men don't like a woman to spend on them, anyway. Apache obviously respects women who demand more cash (he classifies them as sophisticated, God help him), and the cash madams obviously consider themselves sophisticated, too. But a high class prostitute is still a prostitute. The mata hari was still a hoe.  Just as many men aspire to be like the robber barons of yankee or the crime dons of sicily, many women aspire to be 'society babes' or , high class hoes.

PLUS, the LovePeddler mentality makes it easy for an ugly bastard with a 2 inch kpack to have hope for the future!!! Ugly women with flat assets and scaly skin unfortunately have no such escape route,

@lamidebaby:

If you are taking offense, you are either amongst the minority or hypocritical. Somethign about the way you responded makes me feel you are amongst the minority, but I'm sorry, your kind is very very rare and there are MANY hypocrites and MANY 'sleepers' (they pretend not to be money grubbing hoes until you let them hook you) so I'm sorry- it still stands,

'they all hoes'

@Gamine

Dont water down your stance! its not

No romance no romance

its

No finance No romance

so its not as simple as 'taking care of'. It is 'giving money to'

LovePeddler is as LovePeddler does. Finito!

Gaming / Re: Xbox Or Ps2? by dakmanzero(m): 11:36am On Sep 20, 2007
For ninja gaiden what you should do is make sure you have a good solid 3-4 hours of time to dedicate to the game for the first try, cos u will probably die a LOT on stage 1, the first stage is designed to force you to play the game properly instead of just mashing buttons like God of War.

It is easy to get frustrated and give up. Here are the tips that will get you through:

1) in the mountains, pink ninja shurikens will fly past and stick in the walls. read them to get instructions for how to proceed. The montains are not a maze, but they have sections that you cant pass without using Ryu's special abilities- including running up walls, using the firstperson view to look up, and others. The shurikens will include full instructions on how to proceed.

2) one place that could give you trouble is the inside of the temple. Just look for the buddha statue and go crazy around it, you'll figure the way forward out.

3) Another place that can give you trouble is when you get past the buiddha statue and the ninjas start attacking you inside the building. All I can say is use the camera- the way forward is usually off-camera in that particular room. Get used to pressing R to center the camera: it is one of the techniques of fighting and you will have to get used to tapping R every few seconds to enable certain commands

4) When you face the boss DO NOT GIVE UP.

if you die over 20 times on this boss, DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED. he is the 3rd hardest boss in the game (in stage 1!!!!!). He is designed to teach you the fighting system of NG via trial by fire. Once you beat him, you will be shocked how easy all other games of this type will be for you (GOW, DMC, etc). You will be forced to learn proper technique for blocking, rolling to evade his unblockable grabs/attacks, counter-hitting, wall-running and aerial attacks, getting him when he's open, reading his combos, performing interrupted (incomplete) combos to prevent him from counter-hiting you, and so on.

Once you beat murai, you won't need my help anymore, and you will discover why NG is the number 1 thirdperson action game worldwide
Gaming / Halo 3 Is Here! by dakmanzero(m): 5:46pm On Sep 19, 2007
To all those who have NTSC xbox 360's out there,

ITS FINALLY HERE! AT LONG LAST!

Come september 25 we will finally be able to FINISH THE FIGHT! , or those in yankee will. Hopefully the first few ntsc discs will land our fair (??) shores on october 1 (independence day) or later. Quite a few people I know are ready to grab discs on or around launch day and ship 'em over.

Any halo grandmasters in the area? This may be a good time to hook up and do some quality deathmatching with a brand new game- new maps, new rules, new weapons. Halo 3 is guaranteed to be a total smash hit, if the mania over the beta is anything to go by, and halo2 has lived 3 good years as the undisputed champion of console group/party gaming.

So. Anyone getting ready to put on the spartan-ii MJOLNIR armour and the reflective helmet once more, and put some hurt on the mindless alien hordes and/or friends,coworkers and family?

people, stop burning deflick, he said he loves ubuntu. He just said it encourages laziness and to an extent that is true. Most of u had ur first linux experience with redhat which was like hell, so u were already gurus before using ubuntu. New users who start with ubuntu may never learn REAL linux because everyhting is so easy.

I'm just happy for bigbrovar who had problems with his aircard grin or he may never have learned to use ubuntu properly

At the moment I use ubuntu by the way, and yellow dog on my Ps3 (which is a variant of FC5)

Also @esquire, there's no such thing as rh10, and nothing like rh9.2
I'm sure you mean rh7.2 and rh9

I personally prefer debian to red hat because it is free of ip restrictions. so i tend to prefer debian derived distros like knoppix and ubuntu. I'm only using yellow dog because it is ps3 optimized. As soon as ps3 ubuntu becomes stable, and spu-medialib is complete, i'm off to ubuntu on the ps3!!!!

dont be stupid

why would microsoft go thru so much wahala to put money into the pockets of norton and intel?

its like saying the WHO created aids, cough and cold so that people would keep on buying drugs.

viruses are a natural result of the free and open internet, and the free and open PC. whenever you get freedom you lose security. If you value your security you must opt for little or no freedom (buy a mac) or take control of your own destiny and stop relying on bill gates (get LINUX).

if u cant do either, then stick with windows and keep upgrading your antivirus. either way its not like they are forcing you to do anything.

mac users = rich kids with daddy to take care of everything, stuck in the family business
windows users = employees with cushy jobs that will never be rich but are fine as long as they keep making BIG BILL rich
LINUX USERS= SELF MADE MILLIONAIRES!!!!!

shuo!

soulpatrol when did i challenge anybody ?!?!?!?

ive only challenged ONE person on Nairaland (gbade.x on unreal tournament and quake3)

I'm wise enough not to challenge anyone else. I was even smart about talking to chiefoh about tekken. Never challenged him! AND i never challenged YOU! I just said that since u are not a bonafide naija woman you do not qualify for the 'naija girls cannot play' argument! PLUS i didint challenge this guy. I totally suck at SC, so i wouldnt disgrace myself by challenging him, but i happen to know players that perform wonders on that game, PLUS as a worldwide tournament level fighter, this dude OBVIOUSLY is not close to being the best if he believes he is. The best players KNOW there is always something stronger.

DOA is another story altogether. I do NOT suck at that game but i would never compare myself to ssrank players like perfect legend and slayer_dna (who's female by the way. just not Nigerian grin )

However DOA is widely acknowledged as an 'unsolvable' game due to the high entropy factor. as a result NO player, not even an SS rank, will claim to be unbeatable because a button-mashing beginner always has at least a 25% chance of winning. ANyone who claims to be unbeatable at DOA has immediately given himself away as an amateur.

The only reason i challenged gbade.x at UT and quake3 is because I am at an advanced expert level on those games (quake3 in particular. beat xaero nightmare mode regularly) and can brag anywhere about my skills. I'm more careful when talking about other games, but i wont sit around and watch while some guy claims to be the next billy mitchell. Nonsense!!!!!

@maleeq has said it all, nothing more need be said.

One small correction sha,  nowadays defragmentation does not make much of a difference,  caching electronics on modern drives make the fragmentation problem moot, and NTFS handles fragmented files far better than fat32. Defragging can actually kill nowadays' high capacity drives with the crazy amount of reading/writing. Read the 'myths' section of the wikipedia article on defragmentation for more info :-)

so you are the number one SC, doa player in the world eh? (i dont care about rubbish soccer and basketball)

Heh. I know there are many, many girls that are good at fighting games, but not Nigerian girls over 17. Hah.

My cousin was a genius at tekken 3. However her mother practically freaked out when she realised the number of times she was going to boys houses to throw down on tekken. whats a mama to think? The poor girl now doesnt even want to LOOK at any fighting game! She still games though, just not fighting. Maybe some final fantasy or whatever.

Sorry soulpatrol, if you think beating your little brother means you can compete, think again! Enjoy the game but dont nurse any illusions that u can actually stand up in a crowd! grin

Of course if you are a britico or a yankee i apologize grin grin grin

Health / Re: Marriage And The Sickle Cell Genotype Issue by dakmanzero(m): 1:50pm On Sep 08, 2007
@snairegin

Its sad when both partners turn out to be AS, but it becomes bloody murder if they go ahead and concieve.

Unless you condone abortion, there is no excuse for playing heads-or-tails with the life of your unborn child.

Downs syndrome etc are natural disasters, like hurricanes or floods, that cannot be predicted or escaped. AS+AS giving SS is totally different, since the parents valued their love over the life of their child.

simple solution:

AS+AS= do not do it. DOnt do it!!!! NEVER! Marry if you must but do NOT concieve a child! If you concieve and the child is not SS, its not the grace of God for you, it is God SAVING your child from YOUR EVIL.

Yellow dog 5.0.2

Sony was doing 'sme-sme' at the beginning refusing to allow access to the wifi hardware. When they finally did it was at first only to YDL, i dont know whether ubuntu, gentoo or fedora have gotten the improvements yet (there's an add-on cd that sony/ibm usually release with custom source code for the ps3, to use to extend your distro of choice)

ubuntu is on the ps3 but i hear it takes extensive work to get it to work properly. Gentoo supposedly is the best, due to its inherent 'from scratch' and 'from source' mentality, but most people would need a binary distro. The first linux i used was FC5- its basically like using ydl without the ps3-optimization. ydl is built with the ps3 in mind, and sony gives them attention first.

ydl has support for bluetooth devices including the sixaxis pad, but does not support the motion control functions. It recognizes usb devices, keyboards, mice, and bluetooth peripherals no sweat.

all linuxes on ps3 do NOT have hardware accelerated video. This means kde and gnome are dog slow. However ydl uses e17 (enlightenment) for speed with various gnome packages installed for added value (nautilus, gedit, etc)

since ydl is goddamn fedora, it means the kernel has been castrated of any ip-ambiguities such as divx or ntfs support. U need to painstakingly locate fc5-compatible power pc extensions to support ntfs (for external usb drives) and samba (for windows shares and cifs) and dvd/mp3/mpeg/divx support (installing vlc and mplayer can be a real challenge)

if you install the right packags and dont get killed by livna/freshrpms conflicts vis-a-vis fc5, you will get good speed on software scaling (fast bilinear only) for divx video and great perormance for mpeg1 and mpeg2. Unfortunately only the most basic postprocessing, and no other scaling than software scaling. There are projects in progress to leverage the power of the CELL processor for scaling and postprocessing (and decoding). lu-zero, unsolo and other ppc linux devs are hard at work and getting good results though not ready for fulltime consumption yet.

RAM is only 256 megs because RSX and its own 256 megs are blocked. DVD access is provided throggh a hypervisor so DECSS does not work, and blu-rays cannot be dumped. This means we can only watch unprotectd dvds thru YDL, but the game os on psp supports encrypted DVDs.

YDL looks beautiful on a 720p hdtv. ALL linux on ps3 looks like shit on a standard def TV. ydl doesnt even install on standard def unless you go to text mode.

due to a lack of RAM and hardware accel, usage can be sluggish at times. e17 helps, and cell optimizations are on the way for all graphics related functions.

currently, sony disables one network interfacve when the other is in use to prevent us from using the ps3 as a router- i have no idea why.

in summary:

linux on ps3 is nice, and though a work in progress you can already use it to extend all your divx from various devices to an HDTV, which previously required a laptop that costs twice as much or more. with cell optimizations, more applications are on the way, like hi-def divx and windows media playback/streaming.

Most importantly it includes full-fledged cell devkits for those who want to practice developing for the cell processor.

ps3 = neat techie toy :-)

but the 360 is better for games, that much is CLEAR.
Computers / Re: Hibernate Or Turn Off? by dakmanzero(m): 6:51pm On Sep 05, 2007
some quick answers:

1) Hibernating consumes zero battery power. All battery concerns can be put to rest.

2) Some hardware has problems with hibernating. To be safe, disconnect all usb devices and switch off wifi/bluetooth before hibernating your computer.

3) Even though the computer turns off completely when you hibernate, there are software issues that still require a reboot to solve. Rebooting a windows-based computer now and then is still a healthy thing to do. Not as much of a neccesity with linux, but still beneficial.

4) Hibernation does not aid the spread of viruses in any way. If anything it delays the spread of viruses that depend on reboots- the boot process of a system is considered a security deadzone, so there are many opportunities for dormant nasties on your hdd to spring to life. Not so for hibernation.

5) In theory, saving RAM should enable you to resume exactly where you left off when you hibernate. In practice, any operation that depends on timer interrupts or any form of asynchronous hardware access will need special treatment, or workarounds. The resume will only be as good as the worst workaround. Good news is that modern computers have few to no issues.

consensus:

Hibernate your laptops happily, and reboot them when they start to slow down or act funny. Unplug usb drives and other such hardware before hibernation, if you can. Please don't hibernate with music playing,

By saying the man would be smart to say 'yeah', you acknowledge that polygamy is beneficial to the man?

In other words you acknowledge that the real sufferers are the children, or at least, not the man himself (you still seem to feel that the woman's life will become a living nightmare)

Culture / Re: Yorubas In Nigeria That Can't Speak Yoruba by dakmanzero(m): 4:48pm On Sep 04, 2007
At long last!!!!!!

An argument not based on pure sentimentality. You, my brother, are one step closer to convincing me that my language has some use. However, we are not there yet.

I agree that no language is completely irrelevant. Even the klingon language has its relevance. However, my argument is that the Yoruba language's relevance, and indeed that of practucally all tribal languages within the country, is not sufficient to justify its use in day-to-day speech. It is a joy to speak one's language, but it is an indulgence, pure and simple. If a person chooses not to use it, it takes NOTHING from him- that is my opinion. He only loses the ability to integrate into the appropriate tribal clique . And tribal cliques are a poison that must be ELIMINATED from our nation if we are to move forward.

Hence freely speaking one's tribal tongue is actually dangerous. Out of courtesy, I ALWAYS revert to english whenever an igbo/ nonyoruba is around because I dont want them to feel we are insulting him behind his back. I know how I feel when people speak a language i dont understand and then burst out laughing suddenly when I'm there.

benefits of being multilingual:

if you learn

Arabic
chinese
swahili
Hausa
dutch
russian
french
portuguese

you are gaining an asset that can put food on your table for life. If you learn

nanpan
gumut
klingon
jedi

you are absolutely wasting your time because there is hardly anything worth doing in this world that requires translation to/from those langauges.

If I learn Igbo, its just to functin within Igbo cliques. No-one is going to pay me megabucks to translate Igbo.

My knowledge of yoruba is useful to me, in the context of tribal clique-ism. I can 'rap' with my yoruba bosses in vernacular to establish a bond of brotherhood and gain preferential treatment over people from other tribes. EXACTLY the thing that is ruining our country.

finished marioland 2 approx 2 yrs after that, literally the second time i played it (that one was so easy i never saw the game over screen even once)

even a retard can finish those games. They r just too easy. fun, but easy.

If you want a *real* challenge, and you feel you are good at mario games I challenge you to play the latest true mario game, new super mario bros on nintendo DS.

It will bring back great memories from your childhood, while remaining tough and challenging enough to really give you a test of your skills and abilities! honestly that game is no 'toy' (like them marioworld and mario64)

(disclaimer: before the mario freaks here tear me apart, I know that marioworld and mario64 can be very challenging if you go to the special stages, etc. but the fact is you can finish them with absolutely no effort whatsoever. sorry guys, those games are for very young children. The last mario that was aimed at older gamers was Mario3, and thats what new smb is based on)
