Sagamite: You are a person!

No 1, did anyone forces those people to run an rejoice on the streets when Alams reached his state after Alams running from the UK dressed like a woman? Or did anyone force Ogbara cretinous youths to attack policemen that wanted to arrest Ibori because they saw him as "our own"?

No 2, if someone is not getting even up to 10% of the vote would it be easy to rig the election?
Child of inequity...those pictures you so desperately rely on are not the majority of the Niger delta population by any means....
But I understand your evil motive for relying /clinging on to those footages you saw as reality...

People of your type and persuasion need justification and reasons to show that the oil found in the nigerdelta cannot be mined by the indigenes , you have to satisfy your wicked conscience that what the Nigerian state is doing is ok...

May the same Evil you wish others befall you!!

Usually in sane countries, people would ask for the heads of the regulatory agencies who failed to protect the people...but in nigeria the sitting governor uses the opportunity to whip up ethnic sentiments.

Before he brought brt busses to lagos...molues were killing people falling into the rivers, etc...such statements did not come from the governor..

The governor has forgotten that the unfortunate event was allowed to happen because one or two of his agencies have failed in their responsibilities....

Anyhow it's always easier to blame than to act

Don't pay anything to anybody...why must we pay to states or lgas or communities? Why not allow the people who own this oil mine it, sell it and pay taxes like any normal person, this national pastime of wanting to manage oil for the resource owners and pay them for it, is the evil that is affecting us....why does nigeria not help people manage their fertile farmland and pay the states or communities for it...

A number of us have decided that its oil or nothing, unfortunately his are in he majority, but as long as you have denied the people who should be the primary beneficiaries of their benefits, nigeria is unlikely to know peace or progress.

A-ZeD:
You really have a very low iq. For all those blaming the leaders, the question you should ask yourself is where they born leaders? Was Fashola or any other governor given birth to as a governor?
Change starts with the people. You really don't need a constitution to tell you not to drive on a one way lane. You don't need a constitution to tell you not to throw dirty on the street.
Its not our constitution that makes people like Bode George, Tinubu e.t.c feel like elders, its our value system and until we change that, no constitution will help us.
One of the threads i started on NL was https://www.nairaland.com/944205/what-person-doing-done-better. Unless we the people start taking responsibility for our actions, we are on a very long thing
What r you talking about bro? Do you even know why we need a constitution ? If you answer this question then you would appreciate why this comment falls very short .

larride: I agree that change doesn't occur over night but our mindset must change first if we will be able to process that change. A case in study is when Gov. Fash was demolishing houses that where built on the road side, in drainage, everyone was shouting against him that he doesn't care about the masses but if he doesn't demolish those houses and there's an accident, they will be the first to lay blame on the government. When he prohibit okada riders in some certain roads, a lot of people still shout and complain that he doesn't care about the masses but if there's any accident concerning these okada riders, we are still going to blame the government, to sanitize the nation and move forward some harsh decisions needs to be made unless there will be no development. We need to start looking/thinking outside the box, to change the status quo, our mindset must change, our attitude towards the nation must change, our determination must change, we must work together as one body, the consitution isn't going to do all that for us but moral values will. I'm for amending the constitution and also changing our mindset about as people of this great nation.
You have contradicted yourself here...
People's attitude will only change when there is reason to change, such as a change in laws or systems, an example you gave above is the demolition of houses or banning of okada, else people will continue in that same state...
Looking at the bigger picture of nigeria, it is clear that as long as the system is built around sharing of free oil to states by the all powerful FG, laziness and corruption will be the prevailing attitude of Nigerians.

0lumide: The man actually meant that, even if we have a Qaddafi without freedom of speech etc.., We can still have a Libya with a $25b water project that supplies constant water to 80% of people in a desert, we can have a Libya where everyone has a house, we can have a Libya where if you want to school in Harvard, it's free with pocket money, We can have a Libya where if you want to farm, you get land, seeds for free and you get 0% loan to expand and if you fail, the govt will reward you for trying, we can have a Libya where the unemployed are paid till they get jobs.

All the above under a dictatorship constitution of Qaddafi yet accomplished the most Africans in democracy can't for his people!!!
If there is anything I think Nigerians need to change in their thinking, I think it's this belief in freebies being dished out by the federal government. Libya is the population of delta state with much more oil than nigeria...
But if you insist on using Libya as an example, lets answer this question, did the Libya people decide to change as once ( which is impossible) or did gadaffi come to power and change the system of doing things.

PoliticsNorthern Nigeria Without Free Oil by DaLover(op): 11:39am On Dec 16, 2012
www.thenational.ae/thenationalconversation/industry-insights/economics/sudan-faces-severe-economic-crisis

Just saw this piece on what Sudan is going through since South Sudan left the union, notice the part of the story where the government has started cutting free subsidies that was previously been issued with free oil money...
I believe Nigeria is not very far from this

Sudan face economic crisis

Bread and meat prices have risen at double-digit rates across Sudan in recent
months as the value of the country's currency has fallen. Protests flared for a 10th day
yesterday as people vented their
anger at the increasing prices of
everyday items and government
spending cuts. But the protests have also taken on
an anti-government flavour, with
some activists calling for changes to
president Omar Al Bashir's
government. "Sudan is facing a very serious crisis
as it belatedly imposes austerity
measures," said an expert on Sudan
who asked to remain
anonymous because of
ties to the government. The protests come
against a backdrop of
instability after the
secession of South
Sudan last July. The split meant Sudan
lost 40 per cent of its oil
revenue, 80 per cent of
its foreign-exchange
reserves and 20 per cent
of its population. In response, the
government has sought
to rebalance its economy by introducing austerity measures aimed at cutting
spending. Subsidies on fuel and sugar have also been partly lifted by Mr Al Bashir, in a
move that has been welcomed by the IMF. On Sunday he dismissed the protests "as no Arab Spring", saying the number
of demonstrators were small. But after a group of students at the University of Khartoum began
demonstrating this month, other groups inside and outside the capital have
taken to the streets. Rising food prices and the depreciation of the Sudanese pound has caused
inflation to climb to 30 per cent last month from a year earlier. Inflation is
expected to remain at a high level after the government announced a 50 per
cent jump in petrol prices this month. Sudan has other deep-seated problems. The budget deficit is forecast to widen
to 5.4 per cent of GDP this year from 5 per cent last year as the loss of oil
revenues, armed conflict and financing a peace deal with South Sudan take a
toll on public funds. "As a result of US sanctions as well as Sudan's heavy debt, external borrowing
options are severely limited and internal borrowing is likely to increase,"
according to African Economic Outlook, an annual report covering
developments across the continent. After visiting the country last month, an IMF mission urged Sudan to do more
to create jobs. Youth unemployment stood at 22 per cent, official data for 2009 shows, double
the jobless rate for adults. A high rate of population growth means openings in
the labour market are not keeping pace with the proportion of youths who are at
working age. But analysts say a change in Sudan's fortunes may only come about when it
patches up differences with its new neighbour South Sudan, which shut down
its oil output of 350,000 barrels a day in January after Sudan started taking oil
in returned for what it said were unpaid fees. Sudan has also barred its landlocked neighbour from exporting crude through
its territory unless border disputes are settled. The two nations have yet to sign a United Nations security council resolution
proposed last month, requiring both to agree to security measures and
resuming oil production and export. "On that basis [once that's agreed], the south will have an income again, the
north will obtain some revenues from tariffs, and the north can turn to the
international community to lift sanctions and allow it access to debt relief and
concessionary finance," said the Sudan expert.

0lumide: You know it's economically not wise to privatize the oil sector? The money to be made from proper state management is like 1mil% more than having it privatized. It means more money for the people and not individuals. And I said state government should manage their resources in respective states not Federal if you fear Buhari wants your oil money because he is a Northerner.

Why? Ask what has been done with the 13% given to oil states?

I don't want to debate your oil wealth. This is about Buhari and why you think he can't rule.

Again, at the polls, if South South and East say no to Buhari and other parts say yes, he is the winner. SIMPLE!
Yes its about Buhari and why we feel he can't lead...SE and SS say 100% no to him, SW give him 50%, NC give him 20%, (I am being generous here)..Core north give him 70%...he still wont win...

But asides that, how is he going to rule is the other key question we are asking....we know fully well that he, like you plans to sit on the oil wealth and pretend to fight the syntom of corruption...

There are those of us shouting on this forum that the heavy corruption is a symptom of a system that encourages laziness, while you feel corruption is the root cause.
The average human being is corrupt..hence systems or conditions that encourage its growth should be done away with...

You keep claiming that I am taking this debate to oil wealth....but really why do you think everyone wants to get to the center?
Guy the beautiful ones are not yet born(i.e those who would push the country in a direction were hardwork and creativity leading to wealth generation are not here yet)

There is absolutely no way you can tell me that government can ever run the oil sector more efficiently than the private sector and those who own the land.

If we don't get corruption out the way, our economy ain't going no where.
Our first step is to get ride of the system that encourages corruption and laziness, stop sharing money to states and lgas, states must work hard to be productive and generate revenue, no food for lazy man, federal government must be funded by all the states.
