[quote author=IamCharles123 post=81715065] A system that's design for the rich alone, we should make it work? Go n sit down jor, u dont know what u are saying.[/quote Can you please tell us a system designed for the poor? The fact of democracy everywhere is that if you are not rich you can win elections on a large scale. Democracy as it is practiced in real life is not the same as you read it in text books. It is a lot more complicated. |

gabicon: U are reasonable. Only few reasonable individuals know that the civil service employment education system we run is no longer sustainable. It was sustainable in the sixties and seventies because we had fewer graduates and enough oil revenues to sustain it, but now with the growing number of graduates amidst declining oil revenues it is no longer sustainable. Manufacturing would have been a better alternative but our leaders focused on oil revenues in the early days of globalization when Europe and America were moving their factories abroad. Asian countries took advantage of this and some of them became wealthy. Things are now difficult because of protectionism and other unfavourable trade practices from developed countries. So it is going to be difficult to create jobs in Nigeria because we need both technology and money which we don't even have, and the little investments we receive from other countries will only do little to upset the unemployment problems. What will happen as things get much harder is that politicians, tribal leaders and religious people will scoope on these problems to bash whoever is in power that they don't like by instigating the masses against the government. We are seeing this happening already, but the fact remains that Nigeria has a bumpy road ahead. Although I don't want to sound pessimistic but things are not going to get better any time soon. We should have taken advantage of some many things in the past to build our economy, but unfortunately our leaders were not foresighted enough to understand that oil revenues would not be enough to sustain a large and a fast growing country like Nigeria. 2 Likes |

PureFace1: Ibadan is almost 500 years old making it one of the oldest large cities in Nigeria. Its origin dates back to the time when Oyo empire collapsed creating an exodus of people out of Oyo. By the time Ibadan was settled there was no knowledge of the sophisticated architecture you are seeing today,so you can't really fault the people of Ibadan for not using the kind of roofing materials not available to them then. Even at that time ,the decrepit houses you are seeing today are the best anybody could have. The reason those houses are still standing today is because of our low level of economic development. So many of them would have be demolished or renovated if the people have had enough income to do so. Moreover the government doesn't seem to be interested in renovation and preservation of ancient architecture. In fact some of these houses need to be preserved for posterity. This is what China and other serious countries are doing to boost tourism. 1 Like |

Chukazu: My brother business knows no tribe. That you are igbo doesn't mean Coscharis is going to share his money with you. All the money he makes is for himself and his family. All you need do is to work hard so that you too can make enough money for yourself and your family. For your information Dangote already has an assembly plant in Lagos. He assembles the Chinese truck brand, Howo. And if you know the shady deals Nigerian business people indulge in to short change the masses then you will not be talking like this. My advice for you is to educate your mind and begin to work toward building your own future. There's is nothing like tribe, it is you and your family. |

Reference: The first pre-conditions for auto industry is steel industry. We don't have functioning steel industry so it is going to be very difficult to build cars in Nigeria. Another problem is that the auto industry is already saturated making it difficult for new comers to compete. Europe and Asia are already in the lead with state of the art technology thereby making it difficult for other countries to survive. What I think we should do first is to have a functioning steel industry to start with. |

Social media has exposed how unreasonable most Nigerians youths are. It is in their nature to react instinctively without thought. Well maybe one should assume that most young people on nairaland are kids without much knowledge. What is going to happen to so many of them is that they are going to be used by politicians to achieve their goals because they are easily manipulable. Can you imagine them calling upon Adesina to contest for president of Nigeria, a man so many of them don't know anything about. The problem of Nigeria is not about having well qualified individuals to rule only. Even if all our elected leaders are all P. hd holders we will still remain backward. Those intellectuals you see are just intellectuals in name. So many of them don't really understand anything about this world. Without having individuals who are ideologically committed to a goal to take charge of Nigeria Nigeria will probably remain underdeveloped. We don't have to rely entirely on the fairy tales of democracy and hope that we are going to develop. This is no going to happen because no country has ever developed with democracy.Nigeria is not going to be an exception. You can't practice democracy with huge deficits of illiteracy ,poverty and backwardness. You first need a strong government with the determination to defeat the evil of illiteracy, poverty and backwardness before you can be talking about Human Rights and freedom, because the most important of human rights is the right to food, clothing and shelter and without all these rights all other rights are nonsense. This is what China has been able to do with its authoritarian political system, and India despite its so called democracy has remained a poor stinking society. Democracy will only make it easier for the rich and those who are able to manipulate the masses to get to power and continue to enrich themselves at the expense of the people. No real development is going to take place. People will criticize, fight and protest but at the end of it all nothing will change. The funny thing is that one group of corrupt politicians will attempt to seize power from those the masses perceive as corrupt to also continue another round of corruption. This is how things are going to play out. No real development takes place in a backward democracy at least for the majority. |

Nigerians are hungry because Nigeria is poor. I know people will say that Nigeria is rich because we have oil, but the truth is you cannot build prosperity on primary resources especially for a population of almost 200 Million people without you having problems. Oil accounts for 80 percent of our revenues but generates less than 1 percent of total employment. What naturally happens in such a situation is that you have a government with enough money from oil and politicians Jostling for power for the control of the money, especially given a country where one's access to government guarantees one's access to wealth. Nigerian leaders are never going to be responsible and accountable because they don't live off the Nigerian people's labour. It is not the taxes we pay that sustains their flamboyant lifestyle, but the revenues from oil. So you don't expect such people to be responsible. 1 Like |

4gunners: There are many things you don't know. G7 is not for intellectual discussion.for your information almost all the G7 leaders are not intellectual, they are just politicians. If you want intellectual discurse it is either you go to the University or attend a think tank. For you to have ignorantly said that is Buhari going to read paper written by Adeshina shows how poor in education you are. Presidents all over the world have speech writers, so it is not something peculiar to Nigeria. For Buhari, however the hatred most people have for him, to have led Nigeria two times show the man is far much smarter than most Nigerians who think they are educated. You just have to give to the man for achieving his dream by becoming Nigerian president having made attempts about four times. Buhari has created his history and written his name in Nigerian history, what will be your own history? 4 Likes |

To think that Nigeria problem is its current leadership is obviously misleading. Nigerian greatest problem is inability of its youths to think. I must confess that majority of Nigerian youths are too irrational and ill-informed to be called human beings. No nation becomes developed when the majority of its citizens are foolish. G7 is a group of countries who think they are more developed than the rest of the world. These countries are ;USA, Germany, Japan, France, Canada, Britain and Italy. The leaders of these countries meet annually to wine and dine together. Over the years the G7 has not really achieved anything leading many to argue that the gathering of G7 leaders is just a jamboree. In this regard the G20 is really more important because it involves the second largest economy, China. Concerning the non invitation of Nigerian president, I don't think that should be a big issue for anybody. Nigeria has been invited before and even those African countries invited were there to drink wine and to shake hands with G7 leaders as nothing concrete is going to happen. There are many important world leaders who do not consider the G7 very important and don't feel the need to attend. The forum on China and Africa cooperation is most important for Africa than the irrelevant G7.The last time the forum was held in Beijing, China promised to give African countries 60 billion dollars in aid to revamp the continent's poor infrastructures. 2 Likes |

gypsey: Kennedy was attacked and killed in America. Presidents are human beings and they can be attacked and possibly killed. If ipob want to kill buhari they should do it in Nigeria where the president spends most of his time instead of making empty threat of wanting to attack buhari in Japan, a highly secured country with some of the best security technologies. I will have taken ipob threat seriously if its members have carried out any attacks on government infrastructures in Nigeria. Ipob members are paper tigers. They don't seem to understand what they are fighting for. They also seem to be poorly educated and I don't think such unintelligent people can lead the igbo to liberation. 1 Like |

Glink2018: How many of those IT gurus do you know? Must every IT guru work for the government? The World Bank is also a fraudulent organizations. The difference between the World Bank and Chinese companies in Nigeria is that while the Chinese have something to show for their alleged fraud, the World Bank absolutely has nothing to show for all the money it is pumping into the country. 5 Likes 3 Shares |

SoNature: I have a friend who is now in governor akeredolu government. The guy is very young and I have not seen the difference he has made. Politics in Nigeria is not what most people think. Age is not the problem, our problem is backwardness. The backwardness is so deep that no individual can make a difference in the shortest time possible. There is a commissioner in ondo state who is also a youth. In the first two years into his job, this guy already has property worth millions of naira. Everybody in Nigeria is looking for money. And it is only by becoming a commissioner that you can make a contribution to your society, you can contribute by engaging in community work. There are so many things you can do for your community without being elected or appointed into government. |

There's is nothing special about the US except that it has both created and stolen enough wealth for its citizens.Apart from this the US government is as corrupt as any typical Third World country. Can a country that deceived its citizens into believing that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction thereby justifying a military campaign that wasted both human and financial resources be said to be transparent? Up till now the US is still blocking the international criminal court to open investigation into the possibility of crime against humanity commitment by US military during the invasion of Iraq. The US is one of the most corrupt countries in the world and this corruption and abuse of power by US politicians continues unabated thanks to a population who has been brainwashed into believing that the US is the best country in the world. Can a country whose the power of rich gun dealers have made it almost impossible to end gun violence be said not to be corrupt? There is little difference between elections in the US and elections in Nigeria. Politicians do all kinds of rubbish to win elections in the US and some like the late John McCain spend decades in the US Congress.Although there's is no denying the fact that Nigeria is stinkingly corrupt, but the US is also corrupt except that it is a developed country. 1 Like |

Chuksmonika: It seems you are a child. Are igbos denied the right to use their language? Are the igbo states of the federation denied their statutory allocations? What treatment is meted out to igbos that is different from what is meted out to other ethnic groups? Are more roads constructed in other parts of the country than those constructed in your region? Disaffected politicians are busy using alleged case of igbo marginalization to boost their political chances and you are here crying about mistreatment. The only marginalization that is real in Nigeria is the marginalization of the poor by the rich. Even if an igbo man becomes the president that will not change your fortune except and only if you are connected to him. No president will allocate more money to a particular region than it is currently allocated. If that is the case bayelsa state ought to have turned to Dubai in the wake of Jonathan's presidency. 1 Like |
