BusinessRe: Life Lesson From The Football Pitch. by davidif:
You forgot the most important lesson of all and that is to be successful you need to surround yourself with talented people who can carry out your plans. A wise man once said that sports is the closest thing we have to a meritocracy in our society and boy was he right. In football, its not necessarily about your looks or who you know or who you are related to, its about how well your perform. If you are good enough someone would find you eventually and possibly promote you and if you stop performing, no matter how good you were in the past, they would get someone else to replace you (See Wayne Rooney for recent example).

Another lesson to learn is that in other to be successful you need to surround yourself with talented people who fit your vision no matter where you can find them. Whether its assistant coaches or players, you have to surround yourself with talented and bright people who FIT YOUR VISION and LISTEN TO THEM.

Lastly, you need to surround yourself with people that you can trust: people who can get the job done a la Roy Keane, Jaap Stam etc.

P.S: I wish our leaders would listen to this.

One reason for the ascendance of Swiss schools: the multinational companies crowding the cities and towns, giving the schools much of their business. They’ve responded to the needs of their globalized clientele by teaching under different education systems, ranging from the American and British systems to the International Baccalaureate.

“International education has become a real growth area thanks to globalization. It is becoming increasingly important for employees of multinational corporations to be able to get the best education wherever their jobs take them,” says Robin Brooke-Smith of education consultancy Creative Consulting.

There are other cultural differences between boarding schools in Britain and Switzerland. While in Britain much is made–by the media and by schools themselves–of the boarding school background of such politicians as Tony Blair and David Cameron, the leader of Britain’s Conservative Party, Swiss schools have a reputation for keeping the names of their students secret.

“We are a country used to wealth and discretion, and for a certain kind of person, that low profile is important,” says Frei.

And here is the list of schools.

No. 1: Le Rosey, Château de Rosey in Rolle, Switzerland. Dubbed the “school of kings” for the number of royals who have attended, Le Rosey is, at 50,000 euros ($73,150) a year, also the world’s most expensive international school. Apart from getting a chance to rub shoulders with Rothschilds and Borgheses, there’s a lakeside château on 28 acres, 10 tennis courts, a Jacuzzi, a sauna and steam rooms, and a sailing center. The school moves to a separate winter campus between January and March. http://www.rosey.ch/
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationnews/11369567/Inside-the-most-expensive-boarding-school-in-the-world.html

College Alpin Beau Soleil, Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland, ranks close behind in the tuition race, at 48,000 euros ($70,220). An international boarding school in the mountains near Geneva, with views of the Rhone Valley, the school features a restaurant on the ski slopes, a performing arts center and a riding center.

“I think people are partly attracted by the beauty of the country and all the outdoor possibilities it offers, in a safe environment,” Sarah Frei, marketing director of the Swiss school Brillantmont (No. 5 on the list), says of the country. “As we are located in the heart of Europe, students can go on weekend trips to Paris or Rome.”

Eton College, the top-ranked British school, comes in at No. 10 (tuition: 37,500 euros, or $54,900). Synonymous in many people’s minds with the term “boarding school,” this bastion of Britishness, founded in 1440, remains a school for boys, unlike many former single-sex schools. It has churned out more politicians, royals and celebrities from across the world than any other boarding school, and the large number of students who go on to Oxford and Cambridge sometimes raises eyebrows. Both Prince Harry and William attended, as did the leader of Britain’s Conservative Party, David Cameron. Past graduates include economist John Maynard Keynes and writer George Orwell.

Number 2 in Britain and No. 11 overall: the Charterhouse School in Surrey (tuition: 37,000 euros, or $54,000). Students of this elite British public school, founded in 1611, are called Carthusians. The school has a strong religious tradition, originally founded on a monastery. The school now accepts girls but sticks to some of its old traditions, including the so-called “calling over” ceremony, in which students are individually chastised or praised in public, depending on their performance over the year.

Of course it’s more than schmoozing and hot tubs. Small class sizes, vast resources and intensive drilling sessions get students into the world’s top universities. In Britain, Eton and Harrow are passports into Oxford and Cambridge–an appealing choice for rich parents in a highly competitive world.

“The students take on responsibilities at a young age and get a chance to become an adult in an environment where they are safe,” says Penny Bysshe, director of school guidance consultancy, which helps place international students in many of the top boarding schools. “They learn how to become winners and leaders.”

The 15 most expensive schools in Europe, identified for Forbes.com by Geoff Stack at AU Consultants, are all based in Britain and Switzerland. Only one from Austria, the American International School in Salzburg, landed in the top 30. Switzerland dominates the rankings.

:oThe Swiss are known for having some of the boarding schools in the world and for those interested in finding more info about primary and secondary education abroad here is some info.

Europe's Most Expensive Boarding Schools

Ah, boarding schools. Cold showers, tasteless food and regimental matrons bent on making students’ lives a living hell. Not anymore. In Europe’s top boarding schools today, you’ll face Jacuzzis and heated swimming pools, five-star gyms and en suite bedrooms, not drafty dormitories and dreary common rooms.

Gone are the days when boarding schools were the places to “toughen” young people up in preparation for remote postings in overseas empires. Still populated by children of the global elite, the schools today are where royals rub shoulders with the offspring of the world’s business leaders in sumptuous surroundings. Mommy and Daddy pay through the teeth for the privilege.

In Britain, where the median income in 2006 was 27,940 pounds ($57,567), basic boarding school fees can reach $54,900 a year, with additional expenses adding another 10%. Yet the sector thrives, with more than 67,000 students from across the world attending, according to a 2007 report by the U.K.’s boarding school sector.

Am not a fan of Dino but he honestly has a point, two terms will not be enough to tackle all those who looted our treasury, what this government should do is recover what they can recover and put up a structure that makes it hard to loot...........

Ps-The fact is there is no government official alive today that can stand in front of all the unforgiving traditional gods of Nigeria and swear that he or she did not in any way benefit 'illegally' from the national treasury, are you going to prosecute all of them? The government should simply use its powers and "collect" any monies, assets, or properties that is believed to be a product of "looting" and put it to use for the masses while the 'illegal' owners run around in court.........Its not ROCKET SCIENCE angry angry
Its the job of his AG to fight corruption with occasional updates to Baba and its the job of his economic team to focus on the recession. What's wrong with division of labor or segregation of duties?
PoliticsRe: Dino Melaye Asks Buhari To Grant Presidential Pardon/amnesty To Treasury Looters by davidif: 8:15am On Oct 03, 2016
See how we encourage impunity! The fact that you are fighting corruption does not mean that you can't focus on other pressing things. A leader of a country has to be able to wear multiple hats, that's what the presidency should be about. If you can't multi-task then stay away and let someone else do the job.

Besides, the job of the president should be to surround himself with smart people that he can delegate to. Its so sad that some Nigerians don't know how to delegate authority and that's because they don't know how to surround themselves with talented and bright people in the first place. They usually surround themselves with family, friends or referrals from friends or even worse people from there tribe. How about surrounding yourself with someone who you trust for his competence?

Yujin:
With regards to the issue of population, Igbo has always been dominant in the whole ofo southern Nigeria. An average Yoruba may never agree to this because what he sees around him paints a picture of them being very populous. How do I mean? They have always been psuedo urban dwellers. Having big towns with huge populations concentrated in those areas does not equate to having a bigger population. Then when you come to Igboland, you have an unusually high population density spread over a majority of the land. This tells a great deal of story on the Igbo population but given a smaller land area brings another twist to it. How do we solve this twist? Going back to earlier history when little politics was involved in affairs of the colonialists i.e before the 60's, available records have always given Igbo a higher population. The british have always made remarks about population when discussing Ndigbo and for the Yorubas, they always talk about the urban settlements of the Yorubas.
Did you not read the document? It shows that the North was the most populous place in Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Document Showing The Population Of Nigeria In 1920 by davidif: 6:02am On Oct 02, 2016
meezynetwork:
From the document it shows igbo land has always been populous if owerri and onitsha province could account for about 3.5m of 8m southern population which is about half of the total population. And also the Yorubas has major towns and live in clusters while the Igbos live sparsely. I don't know why ogoja has been neglected so badly like this. This has been a prominent name right from ages. Visited ogoja this year on my way to obudu and it's still the same little and low life town it has always been. It's time for ogoja state to be created. All other names are big towns now expect ogoja.
Well they can do it as long as they can generate there own revenue without federal govt allocation. Majority of states in Nigeria should not even exist because they can't even generate there own revenue.
PoliticsRe: Document Showing The Population Of Nigeria In 1920 by davidif: 5:45am On Oct 02, 2016

I think those terms refer to a lot more territory than what they mean today e.g Colony does not mean Lagos State as we know it now and I am sure "Kano" does not mean what we understand it to mean today we need to match those terms to a contemporaneous map

Anyway we must not fall victim to the mindset "It is in a book it must be true"

Thinking involves asking questions
Who wrote this book when and why with what authority?
What are these figures based on? A census? When did that census happen? Was it accepted etc. We must learn to ask questions and not believe anything we hear or read
It was most likely published by the colonial administration of Nigeria and the figures were based on the census that were conducted and by the looks of it, the figures were accepted and therefore published hence why we are reading it from a book. I used to come across such books like this in my former school: old colonial administrative books.
