usbcable:But majority of that GDP is from commodities like oil so that does not count. Talk to me when Nigeria actually starts producing something of value that the world actually wants to buy. |
ANAMBRA11:Whether you like it or not, Nigeria is still our country and whether you voted for him or not President Buhari is still our head of state and no amount of venting on the internet would change that my brother. I have begun to notice that there are usually different kind of people in a group. There are those who like to point fingers and point out other peoples mistakes and there are those who figure out a solution to the problem. It is easy to point fingers and blame as many people as possible or you can come up with ideas that would lead to a better outcome. Either way, all i know is when i face adversity i don't want to be surrounded by people who like pointing fingers but solution oriented individuals. |

ManMountain:WOW! See reasoning. So what you are saying is that we should stoop to there level and start doing tit for tat? abi are you still in secondary school? Weren't you taught that two wrongs don't make a right? Na wa for una. |
axortedbabe:I don't even know if i would let my kids have a cell phone till they are ready for university. |
Zico5:You have to first give them a reason to be optimistic my brother. |
Jessidaisy4:Its hillarious. On a serious note can i slide into your DM's for a minute? |
Love Machine:Don't mind them jare. |
TrapQueen77:I have never understood going on dates with the girl you are interested in and her friends? I thought a date was only between two people. Abeg, explain that mentality to me. |
This is why allocation must stop. |
cindyrocks:No mind them jare, the emperor is not wearing any clothes yet they won't tell him. |
Izonpikin:Or maybe the Nigerian military have been lying to us all along while the lazy members of the media probably did not bother to verify what the military was telling them. The job of a good journalist is to seek out the truth not just to report anything the authorities say. |
GenBuhari:Wrong! symbolism is everything when you are fighting a war. There is nothing more powerful than when the enemy hoists its flag on your territory. Its a way of showing there supremacy over you that's why in war when soldiers invade a place, they take of there enemy flag and put there own. ITS A REALLY BIG DEAL. Also, its something they can use for propaganda purposes to show there followers that they are winning the war which can be a very effective rallying cry for them and also a good recruiting tool. How BBC get the news before Nigeria news media? Is this not further evidence of the white man's collusion with terrorism in Africa?Wow! so you believe the Nigerian military or the Nigerian press that constantly lies through its teeth? The Nigerian military has constantly lied to us for decades to cover up there ineptitude and incompetence yet you stick up for them? You think that the BBC are a bunch of lazy journalists who don't go out into the field to verify facts that are reported by the Nigerian military? You think this are journalists that can be paid off to cover up the military's incompetence? If you think so then bros think again. |
See irony! this guy is accusing other people of jacking his style meanwhile he stole someone else's name. |
byrron:They probably never went anywhere, it was probably the Nigerian media lying to us as usual. |
who is the attention seeker taking the selfie? |
Fantastic picture. At least a bright spot in Naija. |
tafrica:Bros, it seems that the millitary lies to the press and the press do not even verify anything that the army says. |
Built2last:Bros, what's wrong with privatization now? It worked with NITEL. Those assets would be efficiently run if there were in the hands of the private sector. What the Nigerian govt needs to do is to completely get out of the oil and gas sector and just focus on collecting revenue. The govt has no business there except to make sure that people are following the rules. In developed countries, govts (be it central, state or local) usually have no business getting involved in the oil business or controlling resources, they simply leave that to the free market. Naija would be out of a recession if they too had there hands out of business like Natural gas (or oil) and leave it to private enterprise. Until we learn private property rights and the power of the free markets in this country, the country might not reach its potential. I have said it before and i would say it again, STATISM does not work. There is a reason why Nigeria and other African countries are poor and that's partly because statist policies in those countries that stifle innovation and job creation. If you think i am lying check out Nigeria's rank in the Economic Freedoms Index, you would see that Nigeria ranks #116 and they are wondering why Nigeria is still poor. http://www.heritage.org/index/ranking stat·ism ˈstātˌizəm/Submit noun a political system in which the state has substantial centralized control over social and economic affairs. Example: Nigeria practices statism. Another example: Statism has failed woefully in Nigeria. |
Idydarling:My sister, 20 GBOSA'S for you jare. You would be amazed how over Nigerians would change there accent when we are with our oyinbo friends hahaha. Correct girl. |
mikolo80:Wrong! I thought I was having a constructive debate with someone else about why the status quo was unacceptable. I rebutted his own arguements while suggesting a better alternative. Its not as if i am just expecting naija legislators to adopt them, its just a debate and with any good debate the opposition has to offer a different suggestion in there counterargument. Just shooting down someone's argument is not good enough anyone can do that you have to take it a step further and offer your own. So Mr. Man, the floor is now yours... |
Thoniameek:Capitalism is not perfect but I would take it before I take any other economic system. Democracy is the worst form of government...except for all the others - Winston Churchill. |
caprini1:Chai! Naija people. |
yemstok:A thousand and one gbosa's for you jare. |
You can't spend your way out of a recession now. Which kind administration be this self. This is something that economists learnt during the Great depression. Chai! Naija sef. |
Baawaa:Maybe she never had the opportunity like you had. |
ephi123:Actually, NEPA has not been fully being privatized yet, its only the distribution side that has been privatized. Besides that, the reasons why NEPA is still struggling is because we have a central power grid and until it becomes decentralized this country is going to continue to have problems with its electricity sector. Every city and local govt should be able to create and generate there own power as it happens in other countries. In other words, there should be no such thing as a national electrical power authority because every municipality should be able to build there own power plant and generate electricity for there own constituents. |
ephi123:I absolutely get your concern but i would rather those assets be in capable hands who can run it well and efficiently as opposed to it being in govt hands where they are run very poorly and below capacity. Do you know how cheaper oil will be if those refineries where not in govt hands anymore? The fed govt has proven time and again that it does not know how to run a refinery hence the fuel scarcity. Why not auction the refineries to anyone who can afford it? |
ephi123:First of all, the govt has noooooooooooo business getting involved in commerce. There job is to collect taxes and regulate. Govts are no good at running things efficiently. Those things should be left to private enterprise. This country would be better off if those assets were being run by private enterprise as supposed to being run by the govts. There is a reason why Naija does not work and its because it has a huge overbearing government that tries to run everything. Govts have no business getting involved in industry (except when they are regulating it). STATISM does not work! It failed in Venezuela, Angola and its failing in Nigeria. If i were Buhari, i would auction off NLNG, those two run down refineries we own and all govt stake in the oil and gas sector and see how our economy will take off. Its this stupid govt regulations that have been in place that has shackled this economy and stopped this country from reaching its full potential for years now. stat·ism ˈstātˌizəm/Submit noun a political system in which the state has substantial centralized control over social and economic affairs. Example: Nigeria practices statism. Another example: Statism has failed woefully in Nigeria. |
just2endowed:WRONG!!! No economist can predict the future. Yes, there might be data and what not but that doesn't help you to be able to predict the future. Even Timothy Geithner and Ben Bernanke as smart as they were could not predict how long the recession in the U.S was going to last. What you can do is put measures in place to lead the country out of a recession or soften the landing. |
mikolo80:Wow!!! talk about an unproductive debate. I just came up with suggestions and ideas that are better than the status quo and you shot all of them down without even suggesting a reasonable alternative? See waste of time. Abeg, if you don't have any good suggestions then why even bother to respond? |
Youngzedd:Wrong! our telecoms sector took off after the govt decided to leave it the private sector. Its the only sector that's working well today. For reasons why NEPA is still struggling, that is a completely different issue. NEPA is not going to work as long as we have a central power grid. Every city and local govt should be able to create and generate there own power as it happens in other countries. |
