livialives: This is something i have observed for quite some time. Nigerians as well people all over the world do it. I've noticed that when people especially women are not overweight (or what some consider curves), and may as a result look younger than their age, they get disregarded in conversations or disrespected with snide remarks such as lepa, igi; "go eat a sandwich" "you need to gain weight" "smallie" etc..Meanwhile i have never heard Nigerians tell their overweight friends orobo,"malu" "you need to lose some weight" "put down the pounded yam" etc. I attended an african event recently where there was a Naija mother of four who was probably a size US 5 or 6. (Small but she was definitely not thin) and i thought she looked very good:flat tummy et al. Another woman upon discovering that the four kids running around were hers burst out "Na your children be that? U small o madam. U no dey eat?Oh please! girl get over yourself. There is nothing wrong with what she said. Stop looking at Nigerians from your Western point of view. Nigerians are different from Americans. We don't do all that political correctness nonsense. A lot of Nigerians are the kind of people who like to call things like they see it. So if you don't like Nigerians, stay away from them. You can't expect them to modify there behavior and be less "rude" because some American chick doesn't like it. Sorry girl, its just the way it is lepa ![]() |
almondjoy: +Osisi where are you? You get customer for here ooooooooooooooooooooooooooh! Are you single or married? |

Na wa o haha ![]() Please my guy don't ever use that phrase again hahaha ![]() |
Why is it that when I hear of this ZMap of a thing. I am reminded of the Will Smith movie 'I am Legend'? |
quid: LOLOh wake up to what? That we don't have accountable and good governments? Uhn? That instead of us voting the right people into power, that we still keep on voting the wrong people in? Please tell me? Was it the west that selected your president or appointed your minister of health? Was it the west that told your country how to mismanage your resources? Pray, do tell me. Oh well, I guess it's fashionable to blame the west for almost everything that happens in the world today. |
Simba757: Easy bro, we have seen countless conspiracies against Africa. I may have gone too far refering to the two Liberian victims as "cursed"- not Liberia as a country though - based on the innocent nigerians who have paid with their lives. But you spilling out such pathetic statements against me would not help the matter. The earlier we become aware of the vices of the west the safer we become. What conspiracy's against Africa?? Please tell me. You mean something you read from some random website or what someone told you? Goodness!! People believe everything they read from the Internet these days. So pathetic. But oh well, I guess it's fashionable for one to blame the West for everything this days. |
ikp4succes: What economy, was there one b4Hahaha. |
quid: Hmm.....please wake upWake up to what? Another one of your theories? Stop connecting dots that are not there. |
technophile: Nope! I think they should be given the chance to test their cure and if their cure doesn't work, they can now be jailed for attracting media attention on fake cures.Say what?!?!?!? Test?? Really?!?!?!! ![]() |
[ author=technophile] Nope! I think they should be given the chance to test their cure and if their cure doesn't work, they can now be jailed for attracting media attention on fake cures.
What?!?!?!!??!!!! Test?! |

Is it hot flashes? |
quid: This is precisely the objective behind Ebola. What?? ![]() ![]() ![]() Which kind conclusion be this?? Stop confusing effect as cause. Gosh, the conspiracy theorists on nairaland can be so infuriating at times. |
What kind of a horrible topic is this? Really, so not finding the right person is now grounds to having children out of wedlock? Na wa o ![]() |
Interesting! |
SirShymex: He's where all the dead Pastors/Popes/Prophets/Ministers are...six feet under. Buried. Dead and gone.Wow!!!! Wetin person no go read for nairaland? So the person whose flawed philosophy lead to millions of deaths of soooo many people in the 20th century is now an hero to you? Na wa o. Why don't you go ask the tens of millions of people who died under Uncle Joe (Josef Stalin) or Chairman Mao what they think of Karl Marx. |
SirShymex: And like Karl Marx said, "religion is the opiate of the masses." So, are you one of the masses, with the message of faith and hope, as your opiate?Where exactly is Karl Marx now? |
MOBJECTIVE: .Where was your original post? I was just about to start reading it. |
CNN was definitely attacking religion on this one. What a slanted article. |
Hahaha, chei!!!! |
MOBJECTIVE: CNN is wrong about the archbishop’s residenceGbam!!!! Excellent rebuttal. I knew that were was something fishy about the CNN article. |
odumchi: Interesting.Well just look at the effects of the British on this thread. Look at all the tribalist nonsense. |
@OP, Why didn't you use the US News Ranking for this. The others are sketchy. On another note, did you go to UT Austin? |
Arsenal needs a striker. Also, they need to go get Marco Reus while we are at it. |
donnypool: Only if a private individual can come up with a pharmaceutical company, people will invest and then you don't need the government for funding. Most america companies are privately owned including some of their research centers. Also, don't forget the ridiculously insaaaaane amount of money (100's of millions of dollars if not upwards of a billion sef) you are going to need for a project like that. Man, trust me when I say naija has some ways to go. If you think I am lying, go and check out the budget of some top universities in the world and you would sde that it is even bigger than that of a lot African countries. My man, he be like say you never jam yet haha. |
donnypool: don't worry, we are not into NASA thing, but finding a cure to Ebola with all necessary equipment is possible. Only if a private individual can come up with a pharmaceutical company, people will invest and then you don't need the government for funding. Most america companies are privately ownedBro, I am not talking about NASA. I am just talking about scientific research overall. I don't think you fully understand the breadth nor the depth of how backward we are when it comes to scientific funding and research. For goodness sakes, We don't even have basic infrastructure like constant electricity or the billions of dollars to commit to science and you are thinking of carrying out high level research?? Hahaha. If you think I am not serious, let me tell you what someone I know once told me. She said that in her school, they rarely admit Nigerians into their graduate programs (she studied something biology related) because majority of them have not had advanced experience in biological research. Some don't even have experience working with tissue culture. What that means is That in addition to not having the infrastructure, we also don't have enough well trained scientists to undergo in something like that. Abi, you thought you can just go to your local federal university and just pick any professor you see? You must be not be well informed. Bro, we just don't have the capabilities nor the capacity to undertake this kind of thing. Our country has waaaaays to go before we even start thinking of coming close to our western brethren. |
donnypool: cool down and watchBro, I really don't think you understand how far naija still has to go when it comes to scientific research and funding. |
this thread is creepyMan, what a truly awful and terrible thread. Chei!!!! |
CFCfan: The Ambassador speaks for the US government, as her chief representative in Nigeria. So the newspaper headline is correct. One needs to be able to make distinctions between personal comments and officially sanctioned statements. |
Ivanspring: Who asked for their commendation? The Ambassador was just making a comment about the Nigerian govt has handled the situation so far. That's his opinion. Man, I hate how the newspapers try to use sensationalism to draw readers. Instead of saying that the US Ambassador commended the Ministry of Health for its handling of the crisis, they decided to use the more sensationalist "U.S commends Nigeria" as if most Americans even care or even know about what goes on in naija. |
Ramon92: Okro de France?? No wonder lille dey always nearly draw..Wow!!!! So a Nigerian can come up with something witty like this? Hahaha. Take Hi 5 man. |
